Bishop James Theodore Holly (October 3, 1820 - March 13, 1911) emigrationist, missionary, and bishop, was born in DC. His family relocated to Brooklyn. His father taught him the shoemaking trade. He began working as an abolitionist with Lewis Tappan. He and his brother Joseph opened their boot-making shop.
He married Charlotte Holly (1851) they moved to Windsor, Canada. He helped former enslaved Henry Bibb edit his newspaper, Voice of the Fugitive. He endorsed the Refugee Home Society and organized the Amherstburg Convention of Free Blacks in Canada.
He joined the Protestant Episcopal Church. He became a church deacon and a priest. He was drawn toward emigration, believing that African Americans had no future in the US. He was a delegate to the first Emigration Convention in Cleveland. He represented the National Emigration Board as commissioner.
He settled in New Haven, Connecticut where he was the priest of St. Luke’s Church and teacher in public and private schools. He promoted Black emigration to Haiti and made that argument in a series of lectures that were published as Vindication of the Capacity of the Negro Race for Self-Governance and Civilized Progress.
He corresponded with Congressman Francis P. Blair about getting government aid for emigration. He lobbied the Board of Missions of the Episcopal to finance his journey to Haiti. He did not inform the Board that he planned to take emigrants to Haiti on his trip.
He led 110 men, women, and children from New Haven to Haiti. His first year in Haiti was full of personal challenges. His mother, wife, two children, and thirty-nine other members of his group died of yellow fever and malaria. He had become a Haitian citizen but returned to the US hoping for financial support to establish a mission station. The Board of Missions of the Protestant Episcopal Church accepted sponsorship of his mission in Haiti. He was consecrated missionary bishop of Haiti at Grace Church New York City, becoming the first African American Bishop in the Episcopal Church. He was recognized as bishop of the Orthodox Apostolic Church of Haiti. He married Sarah Henley and had nine children. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence

Beyondo. His astonishing resume includes music-making with Antibalas, Charlie Hunter, Angelique Kidjo, The Monkees, TV on the Radio, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, & other luminaries. Eric & I have done a few music projects, but we put in many years together playing in the Davy Jones/Monkees orbit. Davy was a huge fan of Eric’s music and repeatedly said he wanted to cover Eric’s songs. On a cosmic jukebox Beyondo’s music plays next to Hall & Oates, Todd Rundgren, Steely Dan, and Brian Wilson. For surreal but hooky pop, dance music, and jazz-inflected soundscapes projecting theatre of the mind, check out Eric’s bandcamp https://beyondo.bandcamp.com ...Meanwhile, HB EB and thank you for your funny bone gifts to the world.

Tom and Jerry: Back to Oz (2016)
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
When I saw Tom and Jerry: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, I saw unintentional comedic gold. The shoehorned cat and mouse created plot holes, the crappy animation made for many meme-worthy frames, plus it was just so out-of-nowhere the very title made me laugh. What was next Tom and Jerry and Kramer vs. Kramer? Tom and Jerry and Me, Myself & Irene? I couldn't wait to see Tom and Jerry and the Wizard of Oz but it disappointed me. It’s a film made worse by being better, which is also very much the case for this sequel.
Following her return to Kansas after her adventure in the wonderful land of Oz, Dorothy Gale (voiced by Grey Griffin) learns the farm’s livestock is about to be forfeited to Mr. Bibb (Jason Alexander) unless the family repays their debt to him. Worse, the Nome King (also Jason Alexander) has attacked the Emerald City and threatens to sink it so he can reclaim its emeralds. Rejoined by her friends The Scarecrow (Michael Gough), The Cowardly Lion (Todd Stashwick), The Tinman (Rob Paulsen), her faithful dog Toto… and Tom and Jerry, Dorothy must stop this new threat to the kingdom and save the farm too.
Much like its predecessor, it’s hard to pinpoint who this film is for. “Wizard of Oz” fans may get a kick out of seeing some of the books’ less well-known elements, like the Jitterbug (James Monroe Iglehart, whose character was originally meant to appear in the 1939 classic but was ultimately cut) and the Nome King. I'd wager they'd rather watch Return to Oz, or read the books instead. It’d be different if the animation was good but it’s just ok. At its worst, it's bad without ever becoming so bad it’s hilarious. What a shame. The end credits show some pre-production stills and animatics in which the characters ARE consistently on-model and look nice. Clearly, this was a production made as cheaply and quickly as possible.
Assuming Tom and Jerry fans are interested in seeing the characters interact with L. Frank Baum’s creations, they'll find a few decent gags here. They’re nothing special but these laughs prevent this creation from becoming painful. I guess you can also appreciate that as a sequel, this is “good” in the sense that, unlike so many other Oz sequels, we actually get to see the characters we liked the first time around come back. Well, not ALL of them. Thankfully, the irritating Tuffy (Kath Soucie) is kept to a minimum this time.
The songs are so bland and unmemorable I nearly forgot to mention them. The best bits of music is another rendition of Over the Rainbow which you’d trade in for a recording of Judy Garland’s any day of the week. That's all I've got to say about that.
Overall, Tom and Jerry: Back to Oz is betterrrr (?) than the first but not by much. It still struggles to validate its existence. This is the kind of movie you only end up watching because your grandma bought it for you at the gas station because she thought it was your birthday and forgot that you’re now a grown man. I didn’t hate it but would be hard-pressed to find anyone I'd recommend it to. (On DVD, February 8, 2019)

Housing headaches: Macon's affordable housing shortage drives prices through the roof
Bidding for a home in Macon, Georgia is competitive and often times stressful - just like many other cities across the United States. According to Pew Research Center, this conundrum has become a disruptive issue for both renters and buyers alike. The most up-to-date information shows that active listings are at their lowest rate in five years - an astonishing achievement! Clarena Hoskins, a realtor at Gateway Realty Professionals, is an expert in selling homes and has seen first-hand the fervent competition for houses on the market. "Right now the market is hot period," Hoskins said. To get to the root of why inexpensive housing in Macon is so hard to come by, WGXA's Ereina Plunkett investigated and discovered the truth. "A lot of people that are coming to Macon were under the same assumption that houses are cheap," Plunkett asked Hoskins. "The way the market is right now interest rates are rising and [with] the pandemic you would think that would slow it down but it didn't," Hoskins responded. Hoskins then highlighted that we are currently in a market climate of robust competition, which heavily favors landlords and property owners. "They want your income to be at least three times the monthly rent, and in some places, they require you to put down the first-month deposit, and last month deposit and a security deposit," Hoskins said. While the renter's market may boast of more options and flexibility in terms affordability, a staggering 24% of Georgians who are looking to rent fall within an extremely low-income bracket according to National Low-Income Coalition. As the Macon-Bibb Economic Opportunity Housing Specialist, James Baker is fighting to help low-income tenants in an increasingly competitive rental market; however, he finds himself between a rock and a hard place due to rising costs and inflation. "We saw two bedrooms go from $650 to $950, $950 meaning that we cannot help you if you get a two-bedroom, because it is not a fair market rate," Baker said. Adhering to the government regulations determining fair market value, the council regrettably cannot help anyone with housing costs that exceed what is deemed reasonable. According to Baker, the many difficulties surrounding affordable housing make it an arduous process for renters. "Since the pandemic, housing has been some of the hardest things to get right now. The difficult part of it, is you have to have three times the income, good credit, and no evictions," Baker said. Did you know that the average market rent cost for a one-bedroom apartment in Macon is currently $872 per month, according to the National Low-income Housing Coalition? Staggering isn't it? With costs continually increasing, Baker stated. "In Macon-Bibb County, we've got outsiders coming in buying up our property, and they're doing Atlanta prices in Macon, Georgia. This is still Macon, this is not Atlanta, this is not California, so the pricing has gone up three to four times," Baker said. Regrettably, he confirms that even the most disadvantaged are unable to find success in their pursuit. "Even with Section Eight vouchers, landlords are still checking your credit, and if your credit isn't good they won't even let you use the Section Eight voucher anymore. That is unheard of," Baker said. According to Baker, the small supply of available apartments makes it nearly impossible for voucher holders to find a place within 120 days. Baker predicts this troubling trend is only going to get worse. "I look at films every day on YouTube and I look at LA's Skid Row, if we don't do anything about housing we are going to have a Skid Row in Macon, Georgia."
