I finally finished the Bianca Montgomery 2003 playlist. This picks up from where the 2002 playlist left off and is currently the most complete way to watch Bianca's story from this time.

As usual, I was unable to find clips from some episodes and all missing scenes has been replaced by written summaries to fill in the gaps. If you know where I can find any of these missing scenes/episodes please contact me and I will add them!

I'm old (?), so one of my first big ships was Bianca and Maggie from All My Children (ship name: BAM). And yeah we definitely called her Lesbianca on the old soap forums. I think I played sick the day Bianca came out to Erica Kane (in big dramatic fashion of course) and also recorded it on my VCR. I refused to admit to anyone that I was watching a soap opera. But the lesbians reeled me in! Anyway, damn, this woman had a lot of girlfriends over the years. Many of whom were killed, only for her twin to show up and fall in love with Bianca. I miss this shit.

This is from the soap opera “All My Children.” The character: Bianca Montgomery. The scene in question occurs between her and her infamous mother, Erica Kane. All Bianca wants is for her mother to look at her, not just physically, but really take in who her daughter is.

“Have you always loved me, Mom? Have you?”

“How could you even ask me a question like that?”

“Do you love me now?”

“Bianca...”

“Do you?”

“Yes!”

“I’m gay.”

This dialogue is burned into my brain. Her expression feels so genuine, like how any closeted teen coming out to a loved one would look like; the fear in her face is palpable. Watching it years later, I felt my heart dip remembering how those words made me feel back then. I didn’t even know I was queer when I first watched this, but I knew this scene was important for queer people.

Bianca Montgomery was the first openly queer character on an American soap opera and is now considered a queer icon in Daytime television. AMC took extra care into making this coming out story realistic to viewers who were in similar positions to Bianca, who felt they couldn’t come out in fear of rejection or outright hatred. Eden Riegel and Susan Lucci play this scene out masterfully. I give them, the writers, the directors, and anyone else involved major props for putting this out even with the threat of losing some viewers who didn’t like this decision. Meanwhile, Bianca gained more love from fans and critics than ever before.

Bianca was a lesbian, but she was also kind, empathetic, always looked for and brought out the best in every person she met. Being a lesbian didn’t define her, but she helped define a generation.

I had a dream last night that All My Children came back on the air. All my favorite characters were back, with the original actors. I was so happy! Needless to say, I was quite disappointed when I woke up. :(

Watching Christina Bennett Lind as Bianca Montgomery (instead of Eden Riegel) took a bit of getting used to but now I actually prefer her in the role. Wait, what do you mean the show’s been cancelled for twelve years? Goddammit!
