Okay, no more werewolf movies with white cishet male protagonists, cinema has not provided a unique film with a white guy werewolf in the last 50 or so years, so we just need to stop
Give me female werewolves, trans werewolves, werewolves of color, you name it, anything but white cishet men

I finally got to watch Bhediya after months of waiting, and maaaaan, it was just as good as the reviews said and my own expectations thought!
So dumb at times, and at others, very profound, the environmental message will NEVER be hammered in enough, we need more of this. "No development at the cost of nature", "if there's nature there's progress", THAT'S what I like to hear!
And the movie was gorgeous. The jungle shots, the mountains... The wolves!! The wolves were so well done. The scenes of transformations were seriously badass.
Loved the music too! The songs are good (Apna Bana Le is magical), and the additional soundtrack had a very 80s synth/fantastic nature, I vibe with it.
The duo Varun-Kriti works, even though I would have liked more scenes just the two of them, but heyyy, we might get Varun-Shraddha back in the next Stree movie, and I like Kriti but I am down hard for Shraddha, so, excited! And don't get me started on Varun, just don't. Oof, that man.

Anyway. That was fun.

yeahhhhhhh, Amar Kaushik is a new favorite director. i'm all in on the Stree Cinematic Universe, i will absolutely be fucking seated for Stree 2 when it releases later this year. this is unfortunately the weakest entry by a wiiiiiiiiiiiiiide margin, the textual construction is so antithetical to the movie's entire Point™. ostensibly about Racial Discrimination while trying to stick to the genre conventions of a moralistic tale that is racist, utilizes exoticized tropes, and centers the story on the privileged instead of the marginalized while saying it values the perspective of the marginalized and never actually treating them as they treat the leads, which just. isn't what we needed. and also sucks. also, this misunderstands oppression and discrimination so bad it's like a child wrote it. although it babies its leads' feelings enough to pretty much feel like it anyway. the most unsurprising news about the writer of this movie's script is that he was a frequent writer on Tarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma.

#Stree2 #Movie #Review #AmarKaushik   #ShraddhaKapoor #RajkummarRao #PankajTripathi #AparshaktiKhurana and #AbhishekBanerjee
Filmmaker Amar Kaushik had hit the right (and balancing) cord with his latest release, Stree 2, which has emerged as one of the hilarious horror movie. Like it’s first part, it featurs Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Pankaj Tripathi in lead roles, the film has a item number and Tamanna Bhatia has extended cameo with a song “Aaj Ki Raat Maza Husn Ka”. What are the five good werewolf movies?
Ginger Snaps: early 2000s horror movie in which the titular werewolf is a teenage girl named Ginger Fitzgerald, sister focused narrative that acts as a metaphor for the death of girlhood, super gory, tragic ending that leads into the sequel, warning for depictions of self harm for both movies
Bhediya: Bollywood horror comedy with a strong environmental message, fantastic score, and compelling character growth
The Wolfman (1941): this is where the formula for most modern werewolf movies comes from, and it is certainly dated in some aspects, but it exhibits something that most copycat movies forget, we should feel sorry for the man behind the monster. We should be saddened, not indifferent, to his inevitable demise
Wolfwalkers: Very different from the other films on this list as it is an animated kids movie, but it is an Irish film inspired by the legend of the wolf-men of Ossory, with a unique 2D art style, and themes of anti-colonialism
Werewolf by Night (2022): yes, this is a marvel special presentation, but it also works well as a stand alone piece, and stays true to the idea that we should sympathize with the werewolf. Jack Russell is immediately endearing, and unlike so many werewolf movies he neither dies nor finds a cure by the end. While it works as a contained story, it still leaves you wanting more in the best possible way

so. okay, the vibes were off for watching an english movie, and it's been over 2 months since i last saw a hindi movie, so Batman Forever will have to wait another day or so. now seated for part 3 of the the SCU — the Stree Cinematic Universe (it's not what it's actually called) — Bhediya (2022).
i think Stree (2018) is a phenomenal movie, one of my favorite horror-comedies and just kinda the genre's best as far as indian cinema is concerned, i think Roohi (2021) is definitely worse but still pretty fun, even if its plot construction is sloppy and the ending is incredibly rushed and hamfisted, it's like a good, solid 8/10 movie. now i've heard mixed things about this but Amar Kaushik has not let me down before (and Roohi was definitely missing his touch in the direction), so here's to hoping if it's polarizing, i end up on the side that loves it, bc i want this horror universe to succeed.
alright, let's get into it.
