Tatyu Betul, Empress of Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913.
More than simply the wife of Emperor Menelik II, she was a key advisor who played an active role in national affairs and led troops into battle in defence of Ethiopia’s independence. She founded churches, nunneries, hotels and banks and promoted secular education. Menelik was her 6th husband; after he suffered a stroke in 1909 she became de facto head of state until a plot to push her aside by other political players succeeded. Compared to more famous contemporary female rulers, e.g. Britain’s Queen-Empress Victoria, Tatyu wielded an extraordinary degree of political agency and she paved the way for female rule in Ethiopia: Menelik’s daughter or grand-daughter Zewditu became empress in her own right, albeit with future emperor Haile Selassie as regent.

Third Phase Of Voting On May 7.
Voters Will Register Their Votes In EVM.
Vidisha, Gwalior Became Hot Seats Of Elections.
MP Lok Sabha Election 2024: Madhya Pradesh. Voting for the third phase of Lok Sabha elections is on May 7. Before this, BJP and Congress have put in their full strength. To win, all methods - price, punishment, discrimination - are being adopted. Voting is taking place on 9 seats of Madhya Pradesh in the third phase. The contest on 9 out of 9 seats will be worth watching. There are many seats which have been held by the BJP for years. There are some seats where the Congress side is strong. Voters will register their final decision in EVMs on May 7. Before this, let us know the condition of 9 seats of Madhya Pradesh and which candidate is contesting from which seat.
Betul Lok Sabha Seat
BJP's victory on this seat has continued since 1996. BJP has given another chance to Durgadas Uike. Congress has fielded Ramu Tekam against him. Both the candidates were face to face in the 2019 elections also. Durga Das Uike had defeated Ramu Tekam by a margin of about 4 lakh votes. The last time the Congress candidate won this seat was in 1991. After this, BJP's Vijay Khandelwal, Hemant Khandelwal and Jyoti Dhurve became MPs from this seat. Durgadas Uike was victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Voting on this seat was in the second phase but after the death of the BSP candidate, voting is being held in the third phase. This seat is reserved for Scheduled Tribes. In 2019, there were more than 17 lakh voters in this seat. There are 8 assembly constituencies under this seat. In the last assembly elections, 6 of these were won by BJP and 2 by Congress.
Morena Lok Sabha Seat - Rajneeti Samachar
From Morena Lok Sabha seat, BJP has fielded Shivmangal Singh Tomar and Congress has fielded Satyapal Singh Sikarwar (Neetu). Narendra Singh Tomar had won from this seat in 2019. He is currently the speaker of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. Shivmangal Singh Tomar is said to be close to Narendra Singh Tomar. Whereas Satyapal Singh Sikarwar of Congress has been a former leader of BJP. He was expelled due to anti-party activity. BJP's lotus has been blooming on this seat since 1996. The last time Congress's Barelal Jatav had won from this seat was in 1991. This time the contest between Shivmangal Singh Tomar and Satyapal Singh Sikarwar will be worth watching. There are 8 assembly constituencies within this seat. Of these, in the last assembly elections, 5 were won by Congress and 3 by BJP.
Bhind Lok Sabha Seat
This time Congress has made Phool Singh Baraiya its candidate from Bhind. Whereas BJP has fielded Sandhya Rai. This seat is considered a stronghold of BJP. The last time Congress won here was in 1984. BJP candidates have been winning this seat since 1996. Sandhya Rai had also won the 2019 elections from this seat. He then got 54.93 percent votes. Before him, Congress has given Bhander MLA Phool Singh Baraiya a chance to contest the elections. There are 8 assembly constituencies in Bhind. In the last assembly elections, 4 seats were won by Congress and 4 by BJP.
Gwalior Lok Sabha Seat
In Gwalior, there is a contest between Bharat Singh Kushwaha of BJP and Praveen Pathak of Congress. Congress had last won this seat in 2004. Yashodhara Raje Scindia and Narendra Singh Tomar have been MPs from this seat. In 2019, Vivek Shejwalkar was elected MP from here. Bharat Singh Kushwaha is a veteran leader of BJP and Congress has fielded Praveen Pathak against him. Praveen Pathak had contested the last assembly elections from Gwalior Rural and lost by a very less number of votes. There are 8 assembly constituencies in Gwalior seat. Of these, 4 seats are with BJP and 4 with Congress.
Guna Lok Sabha Seat: Indian Politics News In Hindi
BJP has fielded Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia as its candidate for Guna Lok Sabha seat, which is the seat of the Scindia family. Scindia is contesting elections for the first time on BJP ticket. This seat was won for the first time in 1952 by VG Deshpande of Hindu Mahasabha. After this, Congress won this seat for some years. In 1967, Vijaya Raje Scindia stood as an independent candidate from this seat and also won. After this, Madhavrao Scindia won this seat once on BJP, once on Independent and once on Congress ticket. After this, Vijaya Raje Scindia remained MP from this seat for four consecutive terms. After him Madhavrao Scindia and Jyotiraditya Scindia won on Congress ticket.
Congress has made Yadvendra Singh Yadav its candidate. Yadvendra Singh Yadav left BJP and joined Congress. The reason for Yadvendra Singh Yadav leaving BJP was Jyotiraditya Scindia's entry in BJP. Yadvendra Singh Yadav's father had contested the 2002 by-election against Jyotiraditya Scindia on BJP ticket. In this way, after 22 years, his son will contest elections against Scindia on Congress ticket. There are 8 assembly seats in Guna, out of which 6 are with BJP and 2 with Congress.
Sagar Lok Sabha Seat
This time BJP's Lata Wankhede and Congress's Chandra Bhushan Singh Bundela alias Guddu Raja Bundela are face to face from Sagar Lok Sabha seat. This seat is with BJP since 1996. Virendra Khatik has been MP from this seat 4 times. The 2019 Lok Sabha election was won by Rajbahadur Singh of BJP. This time BJP has fielded a woman candidate in her place. Before the assembly elections, Guddu Raja Bundela had left BSP and joined Congress. He has considerable influence in the politics of Bundelkhand. There are 8 assembly seats in Sagar, out of which the BJP has won all of them, only one seat went to the Congress.
Vidisha Lok Sabha Seat
Vidisha is the hottest seat in this Lok Sabha elections. From here, former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is contesting again after 20 years. This seat is the stronghold of BJP. Congress has won from here only twice. First time in 1980 and second time in 1984. Veteran leaders like former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Sushma Swaraj have been MPs from Vidisha. Shivraj Singh Chauhan contested the 1991 by-election for the first time. After that he kept winning continuously till 2004. BJP has once again fielded him in 2024. In front of him, Congress has made Pratap Bhanu Sharma its candidate. BJP has been winning every election from here with record votes. There are 8 seats in Vidisha Lok Sabha constituency. Of these, except Silwani, BJP had won all of them.
Bhopal Lok Sabha Seat
Congress has never seen victory on Bhopal Lok Sabha seat since 1984. BJP has been winning here since 1989. It is not wrong to call it the stronghold of BJP. This time the contest is between Alok Sharma of BJP and Arun Srivastava of Congress. Former Chief Minister Uma Bharti has been an MP from this seat. BJP had changed candidates in both 2014 and 2019 elections. In 2019, the contest was between Digvijay Singh and Sadhvi Pragya. Pragya got 61.54 percent votes and Digvijay Singh got 35.63 percent votes. There are 8 assembly constituencies in this seat. Of these, 6 are with BJP and two (Bhopal North, Bhopal Central) are with Congress.
Rajgarh Lok Sabha Seat
The contest on this seat will be worth watching in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections. After tasting defeat from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat in 2019, Congress has fielded Digvijay Singh from Rajgarh this time. Congress and BJP keep coming and going on this seat. Mostly Congress has won this seat. BJP has made Rodmal Nagar its candidate. The 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections were won by Rodmal Nagar. This time also the party has expressed confidence in him. There are 8 assembly constituencies under this seat. In the 2023 assembly elections, Congress could win only 2 seats, 6 went to BJP.

Western Youth Turn To Islam, Inspired By Palestinians' Faith in Allah (God)
The resilience shown by the people of Gaza during the five-month-long bloody war has ignited curiosity about Islam among young people in the West, leading many to embrace Islam.

A Palestinian woman sits on the ground, embracing her deceased toddler who's draped in a white sheet. Tears stream down her face as she silently cries and murmurs the word "alhamdulillah," a humble acknowledgement in Arabic that Muslims use to express gratitude and thankfulness to God regardless of difficult circumstances they may be encountering.
That expression of faith touched millions of viewers on social media, even resulting in life-changing decisions for some. And the 25-year-old Abbey Hafez, who’s married to a Muslim man and identified herself as a Christian, was one of them.
The American social media influencer began reading the Quran after watching this video and being captivated by the Palestinian mother's devotion. Sharing her story in an interview, she said, "I need to read this book and see what it is that they believe in to be this steadfast in their faith."
Like Hafez, whose videos have garnered over 35 million views online, there’s a widespread trend across Western countries where people are taking a keen interest in knowing Islam beyond its stereotypical portrayal peddled by mainstream media for decades.
From famous celebrities to activists with millions of followers, the trend of individuals announcing their decision to embrace Islam or, at the very least, start reading the Quran has become increasingly common on social media since October 7.
Examples include Henry Klassen, a renowned ophthalmology professor at the University of California, and former Spanish football player Jose Ignacio Peleterio converting to Islam. Hollywood star Will Smith has also expressed his interest in reading the Quran. In another instance, at least 30 women announced their conversion to Islam in Melbourne, Australia, deeply moved by witnessing the strong faith of Palestinians.
Tumblr media
The Snowball Effect
Feelings of solidarity, empathy or sympathy with Palestinians might contribute to the wish to learn more about their background and faith, Dr Vanessa Vroon of Social and Behavioural Sciences at University of Amsterdam explains.
Once people start to educate themselves about Islam, they often realise that “it is different from what they learn from the often negative media coverage of Islam in Western countries,” she tells TRT World.
When asked about what might be the political roots and implications of these conversions, Vroon says, “Politics are known to play a role in so far as people ask themselves: is Islam really that bad?”
“What might make a difference in light of the Palestine-Israel conflict is that in the news, day in day out, people see that amidst the devastation of war, Palestinians turn to Allah for help and strength. This, again, might be a first impetus to start learning more about their religion, possibly become convinced of its truth and consider becoming Muslim oneself,” she adds.
A young American woman, Megan Rice, was among the pioneers in sharing her exploration of Islam online, inspired by the Palestinian people. She began posting videos discussing her journey into Islam, particularly after purchasing the Quran, which garnered interest from her followers, prompting them to consider buying the holy book themselves.
While interacting with her followers and responding to their queries largely about her learning of the Quran, Rice established a digital book club where people could exchange thoughts and interpretations of Quranic passages. The number of Western individuals who have begun reading the Quran and sharing numerous videos detailing their positive and enriching experiences has thus increased over the months.
Megan's journey experienced a profound transformation as she evolved from being influenced by others to becoming an influencer herself, assuming the role of an initiator within her newfound community after her conversion to Islam. Now, she actively continues her social media activism by spearheading various campaigns.
The new young social media users aren’t just bold enough to reject Western states’ blind support for every Israeli action, challenge media biases, and seek truth through independent research; they also aimed to inspire others to join their quest for a more nuanced understanding of the colonial occupation.
Another American woman, 32-year-old author and content designer Kaitlyn Luckow, currently residing in Germany, launched a BookTok series—a type of content on TikTok where users share, discuss, and review books—after October 7 to impart knowledge on the history of Palestine.
“I knew I had to use the platform I had –regardless of how small it may be– to share learnings, resources, and books. I don’t know everything and I’m learning every single day. And if I can encourage others to do the same, then maybe we can collectively demand and create systemic change,” she told TRT World.
People around the world, especially the youth, are starting to open their eyes and educate themselves, Luckow believes, as they go on social media every day and watch as innocent humans are being murdered while their governments try to convince them that this is the right thing to do to protect their own interests.
Despite receiving numerous hateful comments every day, she remains determined to encourage people to question mainstream media narratives and embark on their own journeys of learning about pressing issues.
“While I am under no illusion that I am going to change someone's opinion immediately, I am hopeful that maybe I can help plant a seed of doubt regarding the information they are receiving and how to become more media literate,” she says.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
TikTok Says It All
Experts say that 2014 was a pivotal year in shaping a new generation's understanding of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. During that year, a war in Gaza resulted in the deaths of over 2,250 Palestinians, coinciding with protests erupting in the US when the police shot Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old black man.
The global youth’s opinion on Palestine took on a new dimension also when the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood in Jerusalem witnessed settler occupation in May 2021. It marked the first time Palestinians, whose homes were occupied, could share detailed accounts of the Israeli occupation as it unfolded, thanks to Instagram's live-streaming feature. Notably, these accounts went viral, and people watched Israeli forces trying to expel the el-Kurd family from their homes for weeks.
Following these events, with TikTok surpassing Google in website visits in 2022 and experiencing the fastest growth to over a billion users among all social media apps, the collective memory of Palestine among the youth in the West began to take shape.
Right after the October 7 attack, a wave of online self-education has unfolded as TikTok users started posting videos inviting open discussions about the ongoing conflict, leading to many conversations delving into the history of Israeli occupation.
From October 16th to 30th, there were nearly four times as many views organically on TikTok posts with the hashtag #StandwithPalestine globally as there were on posts with the hashtag #StandwithIsrael, the Chinese app announced, in response to the accusations that it was pushing pro-Palestine videos deliberately, subtly influencing the youth of America.
The millennials and Gen-Z, who are the primary users of the app, are more aware that the Israel-Palestine conflict did not originate on October 7th. A recent survey indicates a notable generational difference in the American perspective on support for either Israel or Palestine, with younger generations showing a more pronounced pro-Palestine stance and increased scrutiny of US policies regarding the conflict.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Counter-Effect
While TikTok and its young users remain a notable aspect of West-Islam interaction, the phenomenon of increased interest in Islam following catastrophes in the Muslim world is nothing new.
The September 11 attacks in 2001 marked the initial exposure to Islam for many Westerners, initiating a transformation. This shift has led to significant growth in the Muslim population in the United States, with numbers increasing from an estimated 1 million to 2.6 million between 2000 and 2010—a 67 percent surge—making Islam the second-largest religious group in the country and the fastest-growing religion in the world.
People who then first learned about this religion and began exploring it out of curiosity often mention experiencing a significant shift in mindset after realising that the religion stands in stark contrast to the extremist ideologies acclaimed by those responsible for the attacks.
“From September 11 onwards, you couldn't find a single newspaper in the United States that did not mention the words "Islam" and "Muslims" daily or weekly for years, and it has obviously had consequences,” says Wilfredo Amr Ruiz, the Communications Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) Florida.
He mentions that it was in the early 2000s when pioneering academic institutions around the world began conducting studies on fields such as Islamic studies, Muslims civilizational studies, and Christian-Muslim relations.
"Whenever Muslims are portrayed, whether positively or negatively, people become curious about who Muslims are and what Islam entails. By placing Muslims in the forefront, regardless of the intent behind it, people will inevitably learn from them. Whether Muslims are showcased to speak the truth about their beliefs and actions or being simply vilified, it will inevitably yield consequences and individuals will become intrigued," he tells TRT World.
Ruiz, who himself reverted in 2003, a couple of years following the 9/11 attacks, believes that another consequence of the increasing Islamophobia in the US following the crisis in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Arab-Israeli war was that Muslims became more vigilant against discrimination and endeavoured to educate themselves about their rights.

KPU
Takut keburu lupa, bukan mau berefleksi yg gmn2 si, cuma mau mencatat penggalan fragmen kehidupan yg ternyata bbrp kali beririsan dg agenda pilih memilih scr periodik ini.
Jd, setelah w inget2 kembali, ternyata aku sdh beririsan dg hal ini itu sejak SMA. Walau sebenernya, yg paling membekas cuma memori aku ada di lapangan tengah, bawa bowl berisi soal2 debat atau undian apa lah gt, w agak lupa tp yg pasti momen itu kalau diingat2 kembali, ternyata syahdu jg, ya. Siswa-siswi pd melingkar di pinggir lapteng, dede2 caketos berdiri di tengah buat kampanye/orasi, trs w berdiri di pinggir 'panggung', rok berkibar2 kena angin, pake ban lengan bertuliskan 'KPU'. Mantep lah.
Trs kalo diinget2 lagi, proses w jd KPU tuh kyk memang ditakdirkan aja gt. Rekrutmennya diadakan scr tertutup dan sebenernya aku udh nolak waktu dicloserec sama koor2 sie. Yg pertama, w dicloserec sama koor sie konsumsi. W tolak tuh. Trs dateng lah koor kamzin. W tolak jg. Eh, gataunya temen kelas jd koor acara, w diajakin. Bagaimana lah menolaknya🥹 jd ku gas aja dg bismillah
Lanjut.
Sbg maba di ITS, ku ikut pengkaderan dong tp hbs itu berhenti sampe jd anggota aja, tida bergabung ke hima krn mager betul dg agenda2 yg molor trs bs sampe malem bgt. Eh, gataunya hbs itu aku jd KPU. Sebenernya, aku diminta jd KPU jg krn jarang anggota hima yg nonjob sepertiq (read: lulus pengkaderan, jd anggota, tp ga join jd pengurus himpunan-bahkan untuk sekedar jd staff). Trs, krn berhubung org2 dah pd pegang amanah di hima, akhirnya kuberanikan diriku dg bismillah buat jd KPU. Trs berujung w jd ketua KPU nya wkwk
Y gmn y bosq. Ini kan kondisi darurat. Drpd ga jalan, mau reschedule jg padet bgt nih jadwal minggu2 akhir.
Alhamdulillah, selang bbrp waktu, lampunya dah nyala. Akhirnya kita ke pwk. Mulai lagi tuh kampanyenya, tp kita semua dah pd capek. Mana pd ada tanggungan buat besok, quiz/presentasi/tubes dll. Emang kocak warga pwk ini, ngusulin kampanye 24 jam dg skema kampanye br berhenti kalo udh gaada pertanyaan atau debat. Tp trs sebagian besar warganya ga dateng.
Sejauh yg kuingat, kampanye akhirnya berhenti sekitar waktu dini hari menjelang subuh. Yg bertahan itu cuma cakahima, kpu+mba tam, trs 3 temen angkatanku sama kating rese yg aktif nanya🫠
YaAllah, cukup lah jd pengalaman untuk dikenang bukan untuk diulang🙏
Tp, th depannya w jd KPU lagi wkwk. Alhamdulillahnya, krn waktu itu pandemi, jd semuanya serba online. Mana calonnya cuma satu.
Setelah lulus, w yg basic nya bukan into politic bgt ni, ga kepikiran yg gmn2. Nyoblos mah nyoblos aja gt. Ga terlalu berminat dg menjadi panitia2.
Kalo ga salah inget, th 2019 sebenernya pernah jd saksi. Tp ga terlalu gmn2 si, w literally cuma nontonin aja. Ashar jg dah pulang.
Nah, yg rada heboh ni pemilu th 2024. Yg membuatku akhirnya teringat fragmen2 per-KPU-an yg pernah ku jalani.
Spt th pemilu sebelumnya, aku jg ga berminat jd panitia. Berhubung aku kenal baik dg beliau, jd ga enak buat nolak.
and the rest is history.
Biasanya ya cuma hadir as peserta aja. Ga yg ikut ngurusin ini itu.
Lucu n seru sih, sebenernya. Kpn lagi liat koko-cece invested jd abdi negara🥹 trs sambat bersama mak2 bonek-saksi PDI.
Jumlahnya brp? Saya boleh minta, ga?"
Aku dg pedenya menjawab, "iya, saya foto semua"
Sempet pd bingung tuh. Iyaya, kertas rekap 18-23 kok gaada. Masak ada yg kurang lagi.
Setelah di cek, ternyata udh bener. Nomor partainya itu emang 1-17 sama 24.
Duh Gusti, gini bgt jd warga negara yg gatau2 amat sama pemerintahannya🥲
Momen2 gini bikin kepikiran, harusnya sbg warga negara yg baik tuh kita aware ga sih. Tp in detail jg ga paham🥲 huhu
Salah dua guyonan yg kuinget:
ada saksi yg emak2 gt, beliau bilang anaknya ngelarang, tp berhubung beliau pingin banget jd saksi, beliau tetep keukeuh brgkt. Walau setelah sore menjelang tuh si ibu sebenernya dah lelah bgt, trs menjelang malam ibunya kyk mual2 masuk angin🥲 trs si ibu bilang, besok tak tahan2 meskipun aku sakit, biar ga diomelin/diejek anakku😂😂
CEO aja kalo capek ttd pasti bs istirahat, kita mah engga wkwk
Trs di akhir, semua pada kapok wkwk. Kata Koko, "kalo peridoe selanjutnya aku dipanggil Pak Gondo (Ketua RW), aku ga bakal dateng" wkwkkw
Yah, in the end, alhamdulillah semuanya kelar.
'Ala kulli hal, Alhamdulillah.

Tapi kemarin Selly nanyain datang apa nggak, terus sebetulnya ya tergiur sama makan siangnya juga, jadi yaudah akhirnya register lah last minute.
Terus entah kenapa belakangan ini susah banget bangun pagi (nggak entah kenapa sih Non, ya karena emang capek aja, I technically haven’t got enough rest sejak Lyon…). Jadi tadi udah kebangun jam 9 terus geologist juga?” gara-gara selang satu sebelum w dia salaman sama mas felix yan. Terus yaudah langsung mandi dan otw Said kan. Sampe sana jam 11-an, kayanya Bapaknya baru sampai jam 11.30-an terus ngobrol-ngobrol sampe jam 1 tu di sini demi kesopanan). Bapaknya agak taken aback terus “lho kok nggak” terus yaudah w jawab aja kan ya beneran ga pake di-alus-alusin “climate change pak soalnya”. Terus dia pergi. Beberapa temen-temen ngeliatin w abis ituh. Ku sudah LAPAR SEKALI. Ku bikin notes sampah-sampahan sih biar ga ngantuk aja. Nanti ku-pos ya w senyum-senyum aja kan ya. Pasha langsung nanya “siapa sih itu?” w jawab “gatau...”.
Nah cerita anehnya dimulai pas rombongan Bapaknya dateng nih. Di sampingku ada Pasha, Pasha is a man of principal, he didn’t really stand up to greet people. Kultur Indo kan gitu banget ya, semua orang langsung bangun dari kursi begitu pejabat-pejabat ini dateng. Nah karena Pasha didn’t, I also planned not to stand up. Sayangnya, ada 1 orang tim bapaknya yang ngiterin semua kursi buat salaman sama SEMUA orang. Gatau buat apa. Ya kultur ketimuran aja kali ya. Terus jadi gara-gara dia, w bangun nih dari kursi. Terus dia nyalamin w “geologist juga?” gara-gara selang satu sebelum w dia salaman sama mas felix terus mungkin ya ngobrol kali apa gimana gangerti juga jadi dia mikir semua orang geologist juga apa gimana (nah kan dari sini aja udah aneh). Tapi yaudah w jawab aja “iya pak saya geologist juga…” terus awalnya mau ngejelasin kan what I’m working on (I LOVE explaining what I’m doing to people, just the perk of being a PhD student I guess). Betul-betul well-meaning intentionnya. Mungkin. Tapi ku entah kenapa personally took it as a hostile encounter.
Betul-betul well-meaning intentionnya. Mungkin. Tapi ku entah kenapa personally took it as a hostile encounter.
Mostly ku get hurt sepertinya karena:
I assume dia assumed that I do not have a job currently (or if I have any, he feels like what he offered is better?); ku sebetulnya kan bisa aja jawab nicely “waduh saya kebetulan sudah ada kerjaan pak di Indonesia jadi dosen hehe”, I think this is more polite.
He still thinks that “kerja di tambang” atau “mining” is a good job! That is why he offered the job to other people (and proudly at that too). I’m not saying “mining is bad” or “we shouldn’t mine at all” tapi mining responsibly is the correct way, and I don’t see this practice is implemented now in Indonesia or in near future. That’s why I immediately, in seconds, naturally, reacted that way. It’s just my brain and my body taking over. The idea of “kerja di tambang is a VERY BAD thing” sudah ter-internalisasi di tubuhku sampai ku tadi gabisa ngontrol reaksi ke Bapaknya. And I feel like I have to make that point to him? Ku merasa ku harus express my opinion explicitly to him in order to making him sadar bahwa “ga semua orang pro tambang, or would be glad to be offered kerjaan tambang”. Ini jatohnya rada performatif dan se-koridor sama Matty H The1975 di Malaysia kemarin sih… trying to make a point in a wrong way, tapi ya gimana?... Kalau ga di-gituin Bapaknya akan selalu merasa bahwa basa-basi “kamu kerja sama saya ya nanti” works all the time, which doesn’t. He just has to know, and unfortunately I had to be one who brings the bad egg to him.
Dah deh itu aja cerita upsettingnya tentang what’s going on at noon today.
Sisanyaaaaa adalah how I’m procrastinating currently karena final final version of manuscript sudah di co-authors dan sekarang ku supposedly ngerjain figures dan references tapi MALES banget huhu besok deh InsyaAllah. Terus Selasa resubmit. BISMILLAHHHHHHH.
Ku juga at the same time harus mulai packing pulang Indo dan pindahan huft capek banget.
Yaampun belum mulai cerita Pariissss udah jam 17.44 sekarang. Wait ngecek last post tumblr kapan. Oh Selasa sepulang dari Lyon. Iya the rest of the week w lupa tapi kayanya bizi aja as usual dan harus cabs ke Paris Jumatnya.
Ngejar bis dari jam 8 kayanya, by jam 09.45-an udah di Victoria London.
Setelah check-in ada waktu 2 jam buat tidur-tiduran. Tapi Alhamdulillahnya berhasil sampai venue jam 20.45-an. Berkeliling jauh-jauh ke 5 bars just to be told that the cup is habis, only to later find that the bar nearest to the main stage still have the cup. Ku beli diet coke seharga 6.3EUR (including cup). Terus yaudah hangout aja di belakang. Ku betulan dapet BELAKANGGGG banget. Mau gimana lagi.
Tapi beneran I HAD THE BEST TIME OF MY LIFEEEEEEE. Masih paling ga percaya mereka bawa TOPLINE dan SUPERBOWL???! And they also brought the VENOM legs??! AND 3RACHA ALSO SANG HEYDAY??!!! Terus MY PACE… hearing DOMINO in real life men… unreal… Terakhir ditutup dengan HAVEN featuring magnificent fireworks. Ku the whole time heboh banget nyanyi teriak-teriak sambil tangan dua-duanya naik (satu megang kamera, satu megang lightstick, btw yang tangan kanan berujung jadi sakit dan gabisa kupake sampai hari Selasa kemarin). W “wow!”in aja. Terus ku berhasil sampai hotel 00.30 which is not bad?
Gabisa tidur sampe jam 3 saking tingginya tu adrenaline. Literally cuma tidur 4 jam imejin… Tapi dimasakkin spageti sama Aisha sih… huhu baik banget.
Huf. Tapi sangat senang juga sih. We basically visited places we wanted to go. Dari situ kita pick something to eat and drink near Champ du Mars Tour Eiffel dan makan grapes serta ciki di situ sambil tidur-tiduran… what a life…
Ku makan malam sisa ayam afrika siang. Paginya dimasakin mi sama Aisha terus packing siap-siap pulang. By jam 12 beneran check out dan lanjut ngopi di deket Arc de Triomphe tapi cuaca Paris buruk aja. Sampe bandara jam 4-an kayanya. Pesawatnya ngaret baru take off jam 18.20-an dari jadwal 17.55.
Makasih Ya Allah.

Day 25: Taytu Betul!
Taytu Betul was born into an influential family in 19th century Ethiopia. Her grandfather was a provincial governor, but her father had been driven out of the province by his ambitious younger half-brother. Despite this, Taytu seems to have had a stable childhood; she was immensely well-educated, speaking multiple languages and becoming skilled in Senterej chess, music, and poetry.  Taytu was married several times, but her final marriage would be by far the longest-lasting and best known: to a rising political player and royal relative, Menelik of Shewa, soon to be Emperor Menelik II of Ethiopia. Taytu’s powerful relatives helped Menelik in his bid for the throne, and Taytu’s own diplomatic skills would soon prove indispensable.  The “Scramble for Africa” saw European colonial powers dividing the continent among their empires. Italy, hungry for control of Ethiopia, first invaded along the coast and then arranged to sign a peace treaty - in which the Italian and Amharic versions said markedly different things. Taytu was the first voice at court to denounce the treaty (she may have physically ripped it to shreds), and she accompanied her husband to his subsequent victory at the Battle of Adwa.
As Menelik’s health began to fail, Taytu took over more of his duties, but was eventually pushed out of power by opposing factions. After his death, she was banished from court - but she didn’t stay off the scene entirely. She may have aided the subsequent coup that put Empress Zauditu on the throne, and she remained quietly influential until her death in 1917.

(OTTOMAN) WOMEN’S HISTORY MEME | 5 valide sultans: Emetullah Rabîa Gülnûş
"... limiting the influence of the valide sultans on the workings of the imperial court and Ottoman internal and international politics to the era of "the sultanate of women" does injustice to historical reality.  Shared patterns tied Gülnûş's career to a tradition of queen mothers that had existed since antiquity, thus well before the Ottoman period itself. The women sought to promote their own interests and those of their sons, but also devoted themselves to the maintenance of order and the well-being of dynasty and empire. In the case of Gülnûş Sultan, much of her activity served the best interests of the Ottoman sultan and the state as a whole. Her advisory, mediatory, and negotiating activity at the imperial court, and her investments, both in the army and charitable works, contributed to the prestige of the dynasty as well as the public good. Her comment during the 1703 revolt—"if fighting breaks out within the ummah of Muhammad, neither I nor you will remain"—reflects a recognition on her part of the relationship of public attitudes, the fortunes of the dynasty, and her own standing at court."  — Betul Ipsirli Argit,  A Queen Mother and the Ottoman Imperial Harem: Rabia Gülnuş Emetullah Valide Sultan (1640-1715)

Reposted from @blackwomenhistory Taytu Betul (c.1851–1918), was a formidable queen and empress of Ethiopia. She used her exceptional intelligence to strengthen and  extend her power through an adroit blend of patronage,  political marriages and leadership craft. Determined to resist imperialist designs on her country, she increasingly opposed any negotiations that would result in the loss of Ethiopian territory. When diplomacy gave way to war, she rode out at the head of her own army, at her husband’s side. It was she who devised the plan which led to the Ethiopian victory at Makalle, and her presence was crucial in the Ethiopian victory at Adwa in 1896, the most significant victory of any African army during the climax of European colonialism. She founded Addis Ababa, which remains Ethiopia’s capital city today, and the final decades of her reign witnessed a period of modernization, which gradually opened Ethiopia up to trade and greater technical expertise. https://en.unesco.org/womeninafrica/taytu-betul/biography #womenshistory #blackwomen #womenshistorymonth #whm #blackwomeninhistory #africanheritage #africanhistory #Ethiopia #worldhistory #Ethiopian #ethiopianhistory #queen #taytubetul #queentaytu #royalty https://www.instagram.com/p/CapLqxjgoNm/?utm_medium=tumblr

Sekadar #Bercerita
Cinta memang kadang membuat seseorang terlihat gila.
Lagi ngomongin siapa sii?

Lingkaran Setan Money Politic

Tatyu Betul, Empress of Ethiopia from 1889 to 1913.
More than simply the wife of Emperor Menelik II, she was a key advisor who played an active role in national affairs and led troops into battle in defence of Ethiopia's independence. She founded churches, nunneries, hotels and banks and promoted secular education. Menelik was her 6th husband; after he suffered a stroke in 1909 she became de facto head of state until a plot to push her aside by other political players succeeded. Compared to more famous contemporary female rulers, e.g. Britain's Queen-Empress Victoria, Tatyu wielded an extraordinary degree of political agency and she paved the way for female rule in Ethiopia: Menelik's daughter or grand-daughter Zewditu became empress in her own right, albeit with future emperor Haile Selassie as regent.
Source: 'A Woman's World 1850 - 1960' by Marina Amaral and Dan Jones (p.164-5).
What is most interesting to me is the connection with the Queen of Sheba who apparently is only briefly mentioned in one passage in the Bible, is unnamed and whose actual existence is disputed by many historians. Haile Selassie, who was crowned Emperor of Ethiopia in 1930 and around whom the Rastafari movement emerged, was said to have descended from the Solomonic dynasty, which according to legend began with King Solomon, the Queen of Sheba and their son Menelik I*.
(*Note the name of Tatyu Betul's husband is Menelik II.)

Orang mungkin nampak aku ni bestnyaaa tgh stay dkt UK..bestnya boleh jalan-jalan dkt UK...bestnya boleh shopping dkt UK.. bestnya hari hari boleh pergi Primark, boleh pergi Next..bla bla bla
Aku post lah gambar apa pun semua orang akan ckp best. Sebab apa..sebab UK.
Sampai aku harap, jangan lah sebab gambar gambar yang aku post ni boleh buat orang lain rasa loser or down dengan hidup dia.
Kalau lah mereka tahu, yg loser tu sebenarnya aku.
Pernah ke diorang fikir di sebalik gambar-gambar yg aku post ni, tak semuanya indah.
Contohnya bulan November sekarang, suhu dah boleh mencecah 9°c or 10°c....nak bukak heater pun kena jimat sebab bill akan melambung naik.
Tu belum kira kos kos sara hidup kat sini yang tinggi.
Aku bukan complaint.Yep, memang best duduk UK. Sebab u boleh berdikari, boleh buat apa u nak without orang judge, pakai apa je u suka without ada orang amek port and mat salleh dkt sini layan kami xde rasis rasis..sampai kita naik segan sebab diorang polite sgt.
Tapi disebalik best-best ni semua, aku sebenarnya hidup dalam kebimbangan.
Bimbang dgn hidup aku bila balik Malaysia nanti.
Yeap, itu semua future. No one can predict the future. Worry about the future and you'll lose your present.
Tapi pernah tak mereka bayangkan aku bila balik nanti kena mula cari kerja..maybe kena start from zero.Disaat kawan kawan satu batch yang dah bergelar Manager, Assistant Manager, Partner,Senior Executive, ada office sendiri, ada business sendiri, ada rumah sendiri, aku pula perlu mula dari bwh..silap2 sama gaji masa fresh grad. Masa dekat Malaysia, masa aku apply kerja dga qualification Master pun susah nak dpt, ni ape tah lepas 3-4 tahun tak duduk Malaysia.
Ditambah pulak kereta aku kena jual baru ni sebab accident total loss, so i have no car bila balik Malaysia nanti. AND no savings sbb savings dah habis pakai sbb nak buat visa masa dtg UK tahun lepas.
Rumah pun takde lagi.
And honestly, aku juga takut kalau i cannot sustain my marriage anymore.
Sebab aku dah ckp awal2 dkt suami aku yg aku taknak sewa rumah flat students .Biar aku laki bini duduk asing pun aku tak kisah janji anak aku selesa dkt rumah parents aku.
So nampak tak anxiety aku sekarang mcm mana.
I have tried to ignore this feelings, tapi it wont fade away lagi2 ada anak and so many responsibilities on me.
So yeah, tak semua benda yang orang nampak kat social media tu betul ya.
Contohnya saya.

Growth
Waaaa anyong haseyo yorobunn, my last post bahas buku Indonesia etc and after that post on Friday, not so much but quite a lot of things happened in my life.
Terus Sabtu literally ga ngapa-ngapain sampe dichat sama Iris kalau lagi cinema national day apa ya, jadi semua bioskop tiketnya cuma £3 which is a very good deal karena biasanya nonton weekend bisa sampe £15, atau in my case £11 karena member Curzon.
The movie is also fun, it’s a bit too tiring karena betul-betul gaada break (there’s always some action going on!), but the color tone and the palette is pretty. Makes me want to go to Japan/Tokyo tbh.
Minggu nggak ngapa-ngapain.
Apparently si chargernya rusak huhu, berujung beli charger baru for £30.
During the whole 2 days on the weekend I started to think about how much growth I’ve had (or not had) during my 2 years in Oxford, karena emang udah 2 tahun kan sejak 19 September 2020, which is when I stepped on this land of Oxfordshire. Kalau dipikir-pikir sesungguhnya I had not much of growth. I am just the same person I was before. Ada sih satu hal: I didn’t expect to be the “outgoing” yes-person I am now (especially when I started to ask people to have lunch with me/ when I said yes to people asking me to have dinner/lunch/hang out together with them). But then I also realized that I enjoy being by myself a lot more(?) here. Oh, one thing that I’m certain of: I grew in terms of mental health awareness. I took that step of registering myself on the uni counseling service. I had that moment of despair, of knowing I can’t do anything more on my own, that I had to ask for help.
In terms of living away from home alone, I did feel like the IFP one was more challenging, so there’s nothing new about that. I’ve lived in a country in which I don’t speak the language before, so at least in this aspect, I kinda win. Oxford is a pretty easy and comfortable place to live in (compared to Rueil-Malmaison).
Am I getting smarter? Or in any way more knowledgeable? Not really… I feel like it’s really difficult to measure this one since I had no way to know for sure. I definitely can say that I know MORE about what I am doing now, but not necessarily being knowledgeable about it. I noticed that I started to have more interest in social sciences and humanities though. I started to care more about politics, equality, diversity, and the economy -- basically the things that are the most oblivious to me at least when I am in Indonesia (because I was in a comfy bubble that I didn’t feel like I had to care about it at all). But here, everything is different. I started to ask questions about how colonialism affected us as humans, how history shaped us, of who I am right now.
Paling shocking (gatau ya kalian shock apa nggak, but I did) si Stephen Hawking ini orang tuanya dua-duanya went to Ox as well. Kalau ga salah Bapaknya did PPE and Ibunya did Med apa ya. But intinya, ga heran Stephen Hawking was a genius karena di-raisenya di lingkungan keluarga yang juga gak kaleng-kaleng.
Now look at us. Well, paling gampang: me. My parents are 1st generation from their families who went to college. Their parents didn’t even go to school! Or maybe they did, but sekolah dasar Belanda aja mungkin (?) – I had to ask my Mom and Dad again about this. My Dad even told me that he had to use those oil-lit lanterns to study at night when he was in elementary school. And Stephen Hawking? I bet he had already had a lightbulb during his school years. But yes, look how FAR I have to run and jump and keep up if I want to be let’s say as successful as Stephen Hawking??? Or probably not me, but my kids. Is it possible? Ofc, dengan Kun Fayakun, nothing is impossible. But will it be easy? Def not.
It is not fair. It always isn’t. But what can I do? I can write a whole book ranting about this so-rotten system that’s been there forever and blame it, but then so what?
That’s why recently I talk (and think) about growth. How can I measure it? How far back should I think about it? It’s so difficult to see and compare yourself with others (which thankfully I rarely do, until recently). Especially when people you compare yourself to come from a REALLY different growing environment, a different world. But it’s always good to compare yourself to your previous one. See your growth. It might be there, it might not be there, it might be small, or big. Doesn’t matter. What’s important is to keep going, to not quit.
