forget every "so tell us about dial-a-song" question in tmbg interviews, I still want to hear an elaboration of the vibe report where flansburgh's like "john linnell does not believe there should be music in films" and he goes "that's true :)" and they just move on
#what did he mean by this LMAO#like. soundtracks of pre-existing songs that could be distracting in a scene or just scores in general?#bc with the latter I do understand it sometimes. the music can get a little overpowering and unnecessary#like. are you ever watching a documentary or reality series#and they put some insipid piano over a moment where someone's experiencing maybe devastation or finally triumphed#and it's basically like the sequence holding up a sign saying ''FEEL EMOTION. THIS IS AN EMOTIONAL MOMENT'' no it's okay I already got that#it can feel very condescending both to the individuals involved and the audience#I know the entire aim of music is to elicit emotion but when it doesn't quite work it feels manipulative#sometimes a scene works far better without it#but it's just like#a really funny statement coming from a man in a band who has contributed to movie soundtracks

The Downton Abbey soundtracks are great and playing the suite on piano gives me euphoric pleasure. BUT what I’ve always wanted to play is Thomas’ theme, which is nowhere to be found in any of the existing scores out there.
Ugh.
Yes, you can still play it yourself but it’s like eight bars on repeat lmao. Definitely should come up with some variations to extend it and add in some strings for enrichment (when time allows).
Just wanna rant about how they mistreated Thomas even music-wise.
I hope they’ll further polish it in the new movie soundtrack and name it “The Gayest Victory” with the pun. That will make me a happy man.

oh i wanted longlegs to be so much weirder than it was. it needed like three more script revisions and some deeper interrogation of the genre it sprang from, and someone to gently take the sound designer's hand on the volume dial and turn it down juuuuust a bit. i need the actual movie to be what scares me, not someone dropping a hammer on the piano to tell me i ought to be scared.
#ignore me#a LITTLE more time in the oven i beg#get that shit off nic cage's face#let me see his expressions i Know he can act with that face let me See it#a man with botched plastic surgery and makeup is your idea of a scary monster...? ok. let's back that up a bit#DESPITE ALL THAT i had a fun time watching it! really gorgeous visuals & i loved the soundtrack#despite the script needing some tightening some lines HIT like a freight train#but get carrie anne a fucking accent coach you cannot be saying those words without the accent to match. be serious.#and that finale..... it should have been twice as long#it was so first draft. like the movie was bored and wanted to wrap things up quick#the cross bullet hole on the mom's forehead was so good though#the effects were a little disappointing. dont get me wrong i LOVED that fuckign cow prop. it was so obviously fake it made me giggle#but ive seen better gore... guy smashes his face on the table to bits and we dont even see an eye pop out? cmonnnnnnn#ANYWAY! do go see it i liked it. have a fun drink & a bunch of friends over. it'll be a good evening

I often think about how perfect The Spongebob Squarepants Movie's soundtrack is. Both the original songs made by various bands for the movie and the licensed tracks they got for it. Literally not a single skip on that thing. It's a vibe we'll never get from any movie ever again and that pains me on an emotional level.
#Ocean Man has a perfect end of movie vibe#Goofy Goober rock is the superior version of I wanna rock#The sea pirates renditions of the theme song is instant serotonin#Just a kid by Wilco works as both a song encapsulating the movies themes about growing up while keeping your inner child#and as a general good inspirational song#Spongebob and Patrick confront the psychic wall of energy is so playfully ridiculous and a jam#Best Day ever is so good it's gone on to be used in a lot of spongebob stuff since#They'll soon discover is criminally underrated and it makes me sad they didn't actually put it in the movie#Also whitesnake's here I go again and Motorhead's you better swim are on the soundtrack#they are both in the film for like 10 whole seconds and you probably didn't notice#Also avril lavigne made a cover of the spongebob theme for the soundtrack release of the film god I love the 2000s#spongebob#spongebob squarepants#spongebob squarepants movie#2004

Got to be honest here. Major disappointed on the soundtrack in the Ranma reboot. Wada had to step up hard if he ever gonna be able to replace THE Kenji Kawai on the music front!

i just LOVE how Santa Coloma is Puss and Kitty’s main theme music and how you’d hear different variations of it during their scenes together throughout the film
