🎼 M U S I C to my ears.....
The saying goes: one man’s food could be another’s poison. In much the same way, what is music for some is noise for others, one would have to agree.
What is music to my ears ?
Well, it needs to satisfy one or more of the following criteria, in increasing order of preference:
1. caress my brain and soothe my mind ( vocals in any language or instrumentals) - I need not be listening, just hearing.
e.g. devotional ( any religion) - vocal or instrumental,
Indian classical - vocal or instrumental,
Hemant Kumar, Geeta Dutt, Manna Dey, Jim Reeves at their best....
2. set my feet tapping ( vocals in any language or instrumentals)
e.g. Mera naam chin chin chu, Geeta Dutt
Jane kahan mera jigar gaya ji, Mohd. Rafi & Geeta Dutt
Lakhon hain yahan dilwale, Mahendra Kapoor
Cotton-eyed Joe, Rednex,
Achy breaky heart, Billy Ray Cyrus
OP Nayyar, ABBA, BoneyM peppy hits
3. touch my heart ( vocals in Hindi or English) - I will be listening for sure.
(while chilling (🍺🥃), evening lounging, on long drives)
e.g. Zindagii ka safar, Kishore Kumar
Ajeeb dastaan hai yeh, Lata Mangeshkar
Chaudvin ka chand ho, Mohd. Rafi
Lucille, Kenny Rogers
Coat of many colors, Dolly Parton
Storms never last, Waylon & Jessie Jennings
Banks of the Ohio, Olivia Newton John
There’s a place in my heart, Nana Mouskouri
Wild Montana skies, John Denver
Basically my preferred ‘vocals’ genres are 60’s - 70’s Country and mid 50’s - mid 70’s Bollywood.
In keeping with the DNA of my blog, I am posting some of my street and casual photographs.

Remembering Baldev Raj Chopra (B.R. Chopra) the legendary filmmaker on his 105th birth anniversary. Baldev Raj Chopra (B. R. Chopra) (22 April 1914 – 5 November 2008) was a director and producer of Bollywood movies and television serials. Best known for making Hindi films like Naya Daur (1957), Sadhna (1958), Kanoon (1961), Gumrah (1963) and Humraaz (1967) and the TV series, Mahabharat in the late 1980s, he was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1998. His younger brother Yash Chopra, son Ravi Chopra and nephew Aditya Chopra are also directors in the Bollywood industry. His nephew Uday Chopra is an actor and producer. Chopra was born in Ludhiana, India, the son of Vilayati Raj Chopra, an employee of the PWD. He was the second of several siblings; one of his brothers is the film-maker Yash Chopra, and among his sisters is Hiroo Johar, wife of the film-maker Yash Johar. "B.R." received an M.A. in English literature from University of the Punjab in Lahore. He started his career in 1944 as a film journalist with Cine Herald, a film-monthly published in Lahore, he later took over the magazine and ran it until 1947. In the same year, he launched a film with a story by I. S. Johar, Chandni Chowk. Naeem Hashmi was hero of this movie and Erika Rukhshi was the heroine. Just as the production of film was to start, riots broke out in Lahore and he and his family had to flee from the city. After the partition of India into India and Pakistan in 1947, he moved to Delhi. He later moved to Mumbai, where his first production, Karwat, began in 1948, though it turned out to be a flop. His first film as a director, Afsana, was released in 1951 and featured Ashok Kumar in a double role – the film was a hit and established his name in Bollywood. Chopra made Chandni Chowk, with Meena Kumari as a lead, in 1954. In 1955, B.R. formed his own production house, B.R Films. His first movie for this production house was the highly successful Naya Daur (1957) starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjayantimala Bali, the film became a golden jubilee hit. In 1963, he was a member of the jury at the 13th Berlin International Film Festival. B.R. was instrumental in developing the career of singer Mahendra Kapoor, whom he employed in most of his movies. (Director-producer Yash Chopra cast Mahendra Kapoor's son in Faasle.) One prominent thing about B. R. Chopra is the relatively low number of songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammed Rafi in his films, with Asha Bhosle and Mahendra Kapoor being his preferred singers. The reason behind this was never revealed by him or the singers. B.R. forayed into television with Mahabharat, one of the most successful TV serials in Indian television history. Nitish Bharadwaj played the role of Krishna in that series. Another of his memorable TV dramas is Bahadur Shah Zafar. He died in Mumbai at the age of 94 on 5 November 2008, survived by his son, Ravi Chopra, and two daughters.

She was known as the Venus of the East and wowed us with her elfin looks not to mention her acting during her heyday. Presenting a list of Saira Banu’s evergreen songs on the occasion of her birthday. Ehsaan tera hoga mujhpar Film: Junglee (1961) Music: Shankar-Jaikishan Singer: Lata Mangeshkar Saira Banu clad in all white and appearing in Shammi Kapoor’s dream was a vision to behold. It’s the song which makes him realise the depth of not only her feelings towards him but his own deep-rooted love for her. Her expressions were spot on and one couldn’t tell it was her debut film, that too opposite an established star. Main kamsin hoon nadan hoon Film: Ayee Milan Ki Bela (1964) Music: Shankar-Jaikishan Singer: Lata Mangeshkar When the hero (Rajendra Kumar) sees her at first, he sings, Tum kamsin ho, nadan ho, najukh ho, bholi ho and goes on to say that he’s afraid of loving her. The present song is the heroine’s reply that he should love her for those very reasons. Shot among verdant hills and vales it remains an endearing song. Ruk ja aye hawa Film: Shagird (1967) Music: Laxmikant-Pyarelal Singer: Lata Mangeshkar It’s the introductory song of the heroine and the hero (Joy Mukerji), much like the audience, remains mesmerised by her beauty. You can’t but help falling in love with her carefree charm every time you watch this song. Bhai battur Film: Padosan (1968) Music: RD Burman Singer: Lata Mangeshkar There’s nothing more tantalising than a bathing song in our films. The song teased you but never crossed the limits of decency. It left plenty to the imagination while maintain a certain innocence about the heroine. Unse mili nazar Film: Jhuk Gaya Aasman (1968) Music: Shankar-Jaikishan Singer: Lata Mangeshkar Unse mili nazar had the heroine recounting the effect the hero had on her while undressing and then taking a shower. Here too, the combination of naiveté and oomph had the viewer’s riveted to their seats. O neele parbaton ki dhaara Film: Aadmi Aur Insaan (1969) Music: Ravi Singers: Asha Bhosle, Mahendra Kapoor The sparkling chemistry between Saira Banu and Dharmendra is very much evident in this song shot with mesmerising waterfalls as the backdrop. They never make such effortlessly romantic songs ever now. Twinkle twinkle Film: Purab Aur Paschim (1970) Music: Kalyanji-Anandji Singers: Asha Bhosle, Mahendra Kapoor This hatke song was picturised on Saira Banu and Manoj Kumar imagining themselves as giant puppets in a puppet show. It poked fun at Indian women taking up western norms in a light-hearted way but Saira looked ever so sexy in a short red dress. from filmfares https://ift.tt/2Nc2fOa

Wishing Manoj Kumar many happy returns of the day on his 81st birth anniversary. Manoj Kumar (born Harikrishna Giri Goswami on 24 July 1937) is an award-winning actor and director in Bollywood. He is remembered for his films Hariyali Aur Raasta, Woh Kaun Thi?, Himalaya Ki God Mein, Do Badan, Upkar, Patthar Ke Sanam, Neel Kamal, Purab Aur Paschim, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, and Kranti. He is known foracting in and directing films with patriotic themes, and has been given the nickname "Bharat Kumar". In 1992, he was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. India's highest award in cinema, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, was bestowed him in 2016. As a youngster, he admired Dilip Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Kamini Kaushal and decided to name himself Manoj Kumar after Dilip's character in Shabnam (1949). After making a little-noticed début in Fashion in 1957, Manoj landed his first leading role in Kaanch Ki Gudia (1960) opposite Saida Khan. Piya Milan Ki Aas and Reshmi Roomal followed, setting the stage for the Vijay Bhatt-directed Hariyali Aur Raasta (1962) opposite Mala Sinha. Kumar then appeared with Sadhana in Raj Khosla's Woh Kaun Thi (1964), and reunited with Vijay Bhatt and Mala Sinha in Himalaya Ki God Mein (1965). Manoj Kumar and Raj Khosla repeated their successful Actor-Director partnership with the film Do Badan, which was remembered for many reasons including Raj Khosla's direction, Manoj Kumar and the heroine Asha Parekh's excellent display of histrionics, an outstanding musical score by Ravi, immortal songs by the lyricist Shakeel Badayuni, among others. In the 1960s his successful films included romantic films like Honeymoon, Apna Banake Dekho, Naqli Nawab, Paththar Ke Sanam, Sajan, Sawan Ki Ghata and social films like Shaadi, Grihasti, Apne Huwe Paraye, Pehchaan, Aadmi and thrillers like Gumnaam, Anita, Woh Kaun Thi. Kumar's image as the patriotic hero started with the 1965 film Shaheed, based on the life of Bhagat Singh, the Independence revolutionary. After the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri asked him to create a film based on the popular slogan Jai Jawan Jai Kissan (hail the soldier, hail the farmer). The result was Kumar's magnum opus and his directorial debut, Upkaar (1967). In it, he played both a soldier and a farmer. The film was also noted for the famous song Mere Desh Ki Dharti, written by Gulshan Bawra, composed by Kalyanji-Anandji and sung by Mahendra Kapoor. Upkaar was a hit and won Kumar his first Filmfare Best Director Award. Manoj returned to patriotic themes in Purab Aur Paschim (1970), in which life in the East and West are juxtaposed. In 1972, he starred in Be-Imaan (for which he won the Filmfare Best Actor Award) and directed and starred in Shor (1972). The latter, opposite Nanda, was not a huge box office success on its release but has gained cult status over the years. It featured the memorable song Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai, a duet by Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh, which was composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal and written by Santosh Anand. In the mid-1970s Kumar starred in three hit films: Roti Kapda Aur Makaan (1974) was a social commentary featuring an all-star cast including Zeenat Aman, Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan that won him his second Filmfare Award for Best Director; Sanyasi (1975) had Kumar and Hema Malini in the lead roles of a religious-themed comedy; and Dus Numbri (1976) also gave Kumar and Hema top billing. In 1981, Kumar reached the peak of his career when he got the opportunity to direct his idol, Dilip Kumar, as well as star in Kranti, a story about the struggle for Indian independence in the 19th century. Kranti was the last notable successful film in his career. He also starred in the hit Punjabi film Jat Punjabi. After Kranti, Kumar's career began to decline in the 1980s as all of his subsequent films failed at the box office. In 1989, he cast Pakistani actors Mohammad Ali and Zeba in his film Clerk. He quit acting after his appearance in the 1995 film Maidan-E-Jung. He directed his son, Kunal Goswami, in the 1999 film Jai Hind which had a patriotic theme. The film was a flop and was the last film Kumar worked on. That year he was awarded the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for a career spanning over 40 years.

Follow Bollywoodirect बॉलीवुड डायरेक्ट

Remembering OP Nayyar on his 91st birth anniversary. Omkar Prasad Nayyar (16 January 1926 – 28 January 2007) was an Indian film music composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, and musician. He won the 1958 Filmfare Award for Best Music Director (for Naya Daur). Nayyar worked extensively with singers Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi but not with leading Bollywood female singer Lata Mangeshkar. However, Mangeshkar's song Ek To Balam Teri Yaad Satayein (from the 1958 film Aji Bas Shukriya) was used in the 1973 Hindi film Taxi Driver, for which Nayyar was music director. According to music and film expert Rajesh Subramanian, "Aap Ke Haseen Rukh" (from Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi) was planned with full orchestration but many of the musicians were late for the recording. After a disagreement with Mohammed Rafi, Nayyar began working with singer Mahendra Kapoor. Kapoor performed Nayyar's songs "Badal Jaaye Agar Maali" and "Chaman Hotaa Nahi Khaali" in Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi. Based on a Bengali language work by Rabindranath Tagore, Nayyar composed "Chal Akelaa, Chal Akelaa" (sung by Mukesh in 1969 film Sambandh). Nayyar co-produced songs with Shamshad Begum (including "Kajra Mohabbatwala"), and after Madhubala's 1969 death Vyjayanthimala, Mala Sinha, Padmini, Asha Parekh and Sharmila Tagore lip-synced several Nayyar-Bhosle songs. Nayyar and Bhosle parted ways in 1974, and he then worked with Dilraj Kaur, Alka Yagnik, Krishna Kale, Vani Jayaram and Kavita Krishanmurthy. Majrooh Sultanpuri and Sahir Ludhianvi wrote the lyrics for some of Nayyar's earlier songs, including "Naya Daur". Nayyar also worked with developing lyricists such as Jan Nisar Akhtar, Qamar Jalalabadi, S. H. Bihari and Ahmed Wasi. He began the tradition of assigning full, three-minute songs to comedians. Om Prakash sang Nayyar's "Churi Bane Kanta Bane" in Jaali Note, and Johnny Walker sang "Aye Dil Hai Mushkil Jeena Yahaan" in CID, "Jaane Kahan Mera Jigar Gaya Jee" in Mr. & Mrs. 55, "Main Bambaika Baaboo, Naam Meraa Anjaanaa" in Naya Daur and "Bajewala" in Basant. In addition to songs for Asha Bhosle and Geeta Dutt's, Thandi Thandi Hawaa, Nayyar wrote "Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawaanonkaa" (featuring Dilip Kumar and Ajit) for Naya Daur (1957). The song earned him the 1958 Filmfare Best Music Director Award. The last Nayyar song performed by Bhosle was "Chain Se Humko Kabhi". Intended for Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye (1973), disappeared in the film's final cut but won Bhosle the 1975 Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer. Nayyar was more active during the 1960s than he was in the following decade, and did not compose music for younger actors such as Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. His films included Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Guru Dutt, Dharmendra, Shammi Kapoor, Joy Mukherjee, Biswajit, Feroz Khan, Bharat Bhushan, Asha Parekh, Mumtaz, Sharmila Tagore, Madhubala, Rajshree, Rekha, Ameeta and Shyama. In addition to Hindi films, Nayyar composed for Neerajanam in Telugu. He made a brief comeback during the 1990s with Mangni and Nishchay in 1992 and Zid in 1994.
