Find the Best Eye Specialists in Arizona: Your Guide to Expert Vision Care
When it comes to protecting your eyesight, choosing the best eye specialist in Arizona is one of the most important decisions you'll ever make. Vision problems can affect anyone at any age, and finding a trusted professional to care for your eyes is key to ensuring long-term health. Arizona is home to a wide range of skilled ophthalmologists and optometrists who offer cutting-edge technology, personalized treatment plans, and expert care. This comprehensive guide will help you find the right eye specialist, understand the types of care available, and know what to expect during your visit.
Why It's Essential to See an Eye Specialist Regularly
Regular eye check-ups are critical, not just for those who wear glasses or contact lenses but for everyone. Vision health is directly linked to overall well-being, and many serious conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, and cataracts can develop without noticeable symptoms in their early stages. By visiting an Arizona eye specialist, you can receive timely diagnoses and effective treatments, which can prevent further deterioration of your eyesight.
Annual eye exams can also detect other health issues, including diabetes, high blood pressure, and even brain tumors. That's why it's essential to work with a trusted and highly experienced specialist who is fully equipped to manage both routine eye care and more serious vision concerns.
Top Eye Conditions Treated by Arizona Eye Specialists
Arizona eye specialists offer treatments for a variety of common and complex eye conditions.
1. Cataracts
Cataracts are a common condition where the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurred vision. Many Arizona ophthalmologists specialize in cataract surgery, which is a minimally invasive procedure to replace the cloudy lens with an artificial one, restoring clear vision.
2. Glaucoma
Glaucoma is an eye disease that damages the optic nerve, often due to high intraocular pressure. Early detection is crucial, as untreated glaucoma can result in permanent blindness. The best eye specialists in Arizona use advanced diagnostic tools like optical coherence tomography (OCT) to detect glaucoma early and manage it with medications, laser treatments, or surgery.
3. Macular Degeneration
Eye specialists in Arizona are equipped to diagnose and treat both the "dry" and "wet" forms of macular degeneration, using treatments such as anti-VEGF injections and lifestyle modifications to slow the progression of the disease.
4. Diabetic Retinopathy
People with diabetes are at risk of developing diabetic retinopathy, a condition where high blood sugar levels damage the blood vessels in the retina. Arizona eye specialists offer cutting-edge laser treatments and other interventions to manage and treat diabetic retinopathy effectively.
5. Refractive Errors
Refractive errors, including nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, are among the most common reasons people seek vision correction. Many Arizona optometrists provide LASIK surgery as a permanent solution to these issues, offering an alternative to glasses or contact lenses.
Choosing the right eye specialist in Arizona can feel overwhelming due to the many qualified professionals available.
1. Qualifications and Experience
It's crucial to choose an eye doctor with the right credentials. Ensure that your ophthalmologist is board-certified and has extensive experience treating the specific condition you're concerned about. Specialists who have a history of handling complex cases, performing surgeries, or working with cutting-edge technology are often the best choice.
2. Range of Services
Different specialists offer varying services. While an optometrist can handle routine eye exams and prescribe glasses or contacts, you’ll need an ophthalmologist for surgeries or advanced treatments. Make sure the clinic you choose offers a wide range of services, from routine eye care to specialized surgeries like cataract or glaucoma treatments.
3. Patient Reviews and Testimonials
One of the best ways to gauge the quality of an eye specialist is through patient reviews. Look for testimonials online that detail patient experiences with the doctor, the success of treatments, and overall satisfaction. A specialist with consistently high ratings from satisfied patients is more likely to provide excellent care.
4. Technology and Facilities
The best eye specialists in Arizona invest in advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies. Look for clinics that use state-of-the-art equipment, such as OCT machines, digital retinal imaging, and the latest laser technologies for surgeries. Modern facilities often translate to better outcomes and faster recovery times.
5. Personal Comfort
Eye care is deeply personal, and it's essential to choose a doctor with whom you feel comfortable. During your consultation, ensure the specialist listens to your concerns, explains procedures clearly, and makes you feel at ease. A strong doctor-patient relationship can make a significant difference in your treatment experience.

• Eye injuries or trauma
Delaying treatment for these symptoms can lead to permanent damage, so it’s important to contact an eye specialist as soon as you notice any of these signs.
Conclusion

Whether you’re seeking routine care or specialized treatment for a complex condition, Arizona's top eye specialists are equipped with the latest technology and expertise to help you maintain your eyesight. Remember to prioritize qualifications, experience, and comfort when choosing your eye doctor, and don’t hesitate to seek out the top clinics that offer comprehensive, expert care.

so high school
pairing : bradley 'rooster' bradshaw x reader
fandom : top gun
synopsis : being in love makes you feel oh so high school!!
series : the tortured poets department
warnings : smut
a/n : loved loved loved writing this!! happy reader
you couldn't quite tell what it was about bradley 'rooster' bradshaw that had you hooked. but something just did. the world of naval aviators was close knit, and you had been friends with phoenix and fanboy for as long as you could remember, even graduating top gun together.
it wasn't until many years later that you received a letter, asking you to go to fightertown san diego for a special mission. thats it. thats all they told you.
so before you knew it, you were cruising down the coast in your bike, hair whipping in the breeze, trying to find the bar phoenix had told you she would be at. you spotted it soon enough, glimmering brightly near the shining sea, and you parked and made your way inside.
it was packed full of other aviators, you spotted phoenix, hangman, coyote, payback and fanboy playing a game of pool and making snarky remarks at each other.
"cherry!" a cheery voice called you, and you offered your best friend your sweetest smile. "hi phoenix! i missed you" you laughed, pulling her into a hug, that she reciprocated, kissing your temple affectionately.
"cherry!" fanboy said, wrestling you into a tight hug to rub your head affectionately as you pretended to be annoyed, swatting at his arm.
"didn't know you were here too hon" phoenix said, offering you a bottle of beer.
"yep, got the call to ride at dawn" you said dramatically, sinking into a chair, shaking your jacket off your shoulders, draping the black leather jacket over the back of the chair.
"well if they're calling in the big guns guess the mission must be important" pheonix teased, affectionately rubbing your shoulder again.
"cherry, meet bob, phoenix's new backseater from leemore" payback said, gesturing to a quiet man with glasses who was eating peanuts in the corner. "hello, I'm bob" he said, smiling at you and shaking your hand. "I'm y/n, cherry" you smiled.
just as you were about turn to greet coyote, the door opened and a man clad in a hawaiian shirt walked in, aviators hiding his eyes, with a slight swagger to his walk as he walked in, sliding his glasses slightly lower down his nose as he greeted phoenix . he had the most perfect looking moustache you had ever seen, and for a split second you wondered how it would feel brushed up against every part of you.
you bit back a giggle as phoenix hit him in the stomach with her pool stick, that instantly had his eyes snapping to your face.
bradley didn't know what hit him as he looked at your face. well, apart from phoenix's poolstick. he felt like all the wind has been sucked from his lungs as he looked at you, drinking in your pretty eyes and curved lips, plush and full, seeing the way your hand was wrapped around a cold bottle of beer. he felt his heartbeat speed up so fast he had to steady himself on his unsteady feet. you looked ethereal.
"and who are you?" he asked, taking his aviators off to tuck them into his pocket as he leaned against nat's shoulder, offering you a smile that had your heart beating way faster than it should have.
"y/n, cherry" you smiled, extending your hand for a handshake. bradley grabbed your hand, pressing a delicate kiss to the back of it that had a warm flushed heat creeping up to your cheek.
"I'm rooster, bradley" he said, sinking into a chair next to yours.
"nice to meet you" you smiled at him, draining the last of your beer. "can I get you another?" he said, already getting ready to stand. "thats okay rooster, I'll go get one myself" you hurried to get up as well, but he just took you by the elbow, leading you to the bar. "please let me. what sort of a gentleman would i be if I didn't buy a pretty girl a drink?" he smirked mischievously and you forced down a smile, hiding it with an eye roll.
"please, nat talks about you and I know for a fact how much of a ladykiller you are" you said, smiling at the woman behind the bar who introduced herself as penny. "put it on my tab, penny my dear!" rooster called and earned a smile from the woman.
"damn, phoenix is destroying my shot before I even had a chance huh? he sighed, only a little resigned. "but I promise, I'm not like that anymore, I'm older and wiser now" he said, looking at you hesitantly. you couldn't help but laugh, seeing the sincerity in his eyes.
"I'm just messing with you" you giggled, accepting the cold beer gratefully and clinking your bottle with his.
you found yourself lost in conversation with him, laughing and chattering like long lost friends. you told him all about knowing nat and fanboy, about your hobbies, what got you into aviation. he spoke about his love for music, his love for aviators, and surprisingly, about his dad.
he watched the way your eyes softened, not in the way that people did with pity, but with understanding. and you reached for his hand, giving it a squeeze. "I'm sorry that happened to you bradley" you said, voice as delicate as a feather. "thank you" he said, stroking a hand over your thumb.
"hey,wanna see something cool?" he asked, already leading you over to the piano. "you gonna play a song bradshaw?" you laughed, choosing to lean against the piano as he settled into the seat. you recognised the opening notes of great balls of fire.
bradley's voice was as warm as whiskey, rough around the edges and ragged in a way that took your breath away and made a little something spark in between your thighs.
"kiss me baby!" he sang, throwing you a cheeky wink that had phoenix nudging your side. "that feels good, baby" he smirked, letting his tongue wet his lips as he watched your body twitch a little.
"I'm off to love you like a lover should" he crooned, fingers dancing across the ivory keys as you hummed along.
after he finished, you watched him get swarmed with people, and whooping and cheering for him, before the chants of "rooster! rooster! rooster! rooster!" filled the room and you clapped along before slinking back to the bar.
"hey whered you go?" bradley's warm voice made his way over to you. "just wanted a moment and another beer" you said and he grinned, already passing you a cold one again, letting his fingers brush yours again.
"cmon, let's go on a drive" he said, gently tugging your hand and paying his bill quickly. "thanks for that, by the way" you said, beaming up at him gratefully. "anytime pretty girl" he said, leading you put to where a beautiful Bronco was parked.
"thats a beautiful car" you said, stopping to admire it. "whose is it?" you continued, staring curiously. "it's mine" he said proudly, grinning when you gasped. "it's so pretty!"
"thank you, it's my baby" he said, and you felt your heart flutter. "come, let me show you the sights" he said, getting your car door for you in a way that had you feeling a little ooey gooey on the inside and had you thinking "isn't that sweet?"
and as you drive off into the night, the moon illuminating the sea, you felt oh so high school.
the hard deck was buzzing with energy, music playing in the background as the squad enjoyed a rare night off. you, bradley and the rest of the team were gathered around a large table, laughter and banter filling the air.
"hey, cherry, can you grab me another beer?" bradley asked with a playful grin, his eyes twinkling.
"only if you say please," you teased back, giving him a mock-serious look.
"please," he replied, drawing out the word and giving you an exaggerated puppy-dog look that made you laugh.
as you headed to the bar, nat nudged you with her elbow. "you know, Cherry, you’re not fooling anyone, especially me" she smirked.
you raised an eyebrow, pretending not to understand. "what do you mean?"
phoenix gave you a knowing smile. "come on, it's so obvious you have a crush on Rooster. the way you two flirt, it's like watching a rom-com. and as your best friend, you know I can read you like an open book" she said, leaning across the bar to grab your three beers.
your cheeks flushed a little, but you couldn’t help but smile. "Is it that obvious?"
"To everyone but you two, apparently," phoenix said, chuckling. "just go for it. You two are great together."
meanwhile, back at the table, the boys were giving rooster a similar hard time.
"rooster, man, you are so into cherry," jake "said, shaking his head. "the way you look at her, it's like you're in the notebook or something."
"yeah, dude," bob added. "It's written all over your face. you look like a little kitten with a ball of wool" he said and analogy made the other pilots roar with laughter.
rooster tried to play it cool, but he couldn’t help the grin that spread across his face. "what can I say? she's special."
as you returned to the table with the beers, you noticed the boys smirking at rooster, who was giving them a playful glare. you handed bradley his beer, your fingers brushing briefly, sending a small thrill through you.
"thanks, cherry," he said, his voice softening a bit, reaching up to pinch your cheek playfully.
"anytime," you replied, your heart fluttering.
phoenix gave you a knowing look, and you felt a rush of warmth. surrounded by friends and filled with a sense of joy and possibility, you knew this was just the beginning of something truly special between you and bradley.
and that feeling made you feel like a high schooler, feeling oh so high school.
training and day to day encounters with bradley became the norm, and he found himself actively seeking you out more and more.
"hey cherry" his voice rang sweetly in your ears as he plonked himself down next to you. "hey rooster" you greeted back, settling comfortably into the chair, waiting for maverick to come and start the training session.
"looks like we're paired up for today's exercise" he said, trying to dim the bright grin that graced his face, drinking in the amused look in yours.
"sure looks like it" you grinned back, laughing when he pumped his fists in the air. "excited much?" you joked, leaning slightly into his shoulder. "oh, very. it's not often i get to fly with a wingwoman as beautiful as you, pretty girl" he cooed, fingers dancing across the loose strand of hair that had fallen out of your bun and tucking it back in.
you felt your breath hitch and your heart speed up like a train, feeling the warmth radiating from his body as he leaned in slightly closer, eyes trained on yours, gleaming in the sunshine. you leaned in as well, torso moving forward as your eyes fluttered ever so slightly. bradley felt his heart hammering, palms sweating slightly as he repeated a mantra of "holy shit this is actually happening" repeatedly in his head.
just as your noses brushed, a sharp voice cut the tension in the room, and you jumped back as if you had been scalded. you felt your body heat up as the grinning faces of hangman and coyote and maverick came into view, making you shoot away from bradley to keep a respectable distance between you two.
"well, well, what do we have here?" hangman’s teasing drawl filled the space, a smirk playing on his lips. phoenix elbowed him in the ribs, rolling her eyes at his lack of tact. "damnit bagman, couldn't you have waited for a second?" nat's voice reached your ears and you tried your hardest not to simply evaporate on the spot.
maverick raised an eyebrow, a knowing smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "did we interrupt something?"
coyote chuckled, shaking his head. "looks like we did."
bradley's hand remains on your shoulder, a reassuring touch. you couldn't help but feel a mix of embarrassment and amusement at the situation.
"har har guys, why don't you move it along now cmon" rooster said, dramatically gesturing to the door.
a chorus of laughs and giggles embraced you, with natasha stopping to stoop by your ear and say "never seen you look so captivated cherry" and giving you a playful wink which you returned.
"well...where were we?" bradley said, after ensuring the squad had truly left. "i believe you were about to kiss me?" you said in a hushed whisper, reaching for the zipper of his flight suit, standing up to pull him flush against you.
you let your body sink against the tiny podium mav used to give his motivational speeches, letting bradley's weight sag into you as he leaned closer, and closer and closer...
right until his breath was warm on your face, searching your eyes for the same desperate adoration he felt and he saw it there in full reciprocity.
"god, will you kiss me already?" you whined, tugging him forward by the collar.
bradley turned to you, his eyes filled with a mix of determination and vulnerability. he took a step closer, his gaze locking onto yours. "I've been wanting to tell you something," he said softly, his voice steady despite the emotion behind it.
your heart raced as you nodded, body high on the palpable tension, waiting for him to continue. "ive felt this way for a while now," he confessed, taking your hand in his. "and I can't keep pretending it's not there." he continued, breath in ragged gasps as he inched so much more impossibly closer to you.
before you could respond, he gently cupped your face with one hand, his thumb brushing over the swell of your cheek. the world seemed to slow down as he leaned in, his eyes never leaving yours. you closed the distance, your lips meeting in a soft, tentative kiss, charged with sweet emotion.
the first touch sent a shiver down your spine. it was sweet and slow, as delicate as spun sugar, both of you savoring the moment you had been waiting for. bradley's other hand moved to your waist, pulling you closer as the kiss deepened, the other still grasping your cheek.
his lips were warm and inviting, and you lost yourself in the sensation, your arms winding around his neck. his mustache, his oh so perfect mustache brushed against your top lip, in a messy kiss that felt so good you couldn't breathe. his hand crawled up your back to rest in your hair, cradling your head in his hand while yours continued to grip his collar and his chest tightly, tongues now clashing as the kiss grew more heated.
just as bradley let his hand down to squeeze the flesh of your ass, the sound of footsteps and a horrified "oh!" had bradley breaking apart from you, eyes never leaving your heaving form as he glanced over his shoulder to see an extremely flustered bob.
"oh shit rooster, I'm sorry i-" he began, stammering and stuttering as his glasses began to slip down his nose from the nervous perspiration gathering on his nose.
"bob, just leave" he murmured, going back to your lips as he let his mustache brush your lip in a way that had you giggling.
"right! right! I'll leave god rooster I'm sorry-" he continued rooted to the spot, eyes widening at the way bradley's lips trailed to your neck.
"bob?" you called sweetly, ignoring the way rooster smirked against your neck. "yes cherry?" he said, still stuttering.
"as much as I like you, please fuck off and let me makeout with rooster in peace" you said firmly, and he was scurrying out like a mouse.
bradley laughed against the skin of your neck, pressing one last smacking kiss to the juncture between your shoulder and neck, before leaning up to peck your nose.
"darling, let me take you to dinner" he begged, grasping your hand in his own palm.
"when?" you asked, still heaving to take deep breaths of air. "now. today. an hour, god, I'll just go shower and change and I'll come and pick you up and we can go now, today, now" he said, punctuating each word with a soft kiss to your lips.
"okay" you breathed, slowly backing away to just admire the man before you. "pick me up at 7 then" you said, pushing him away with a smirk, before walking towards the door, hips swaying purposefully. "and maybe tonight, you'll get to kiss more of me" you winked, and made your way out.
rooster sunk back into a chair with a groan.
god, you made him feel like a lovestruck teenager, giving him butterflies
it all felt oh so high school to him.
bradley bradshaw had planned the perfect first date, and as the sun began its descent, casting a warm glow over Fightertown, you found yourself eagerly anticipating the evening ahead. he had picked you up right on time, his charming smile and easy confidence immediately putting you at ease.
he drove you to a secluded stretch of beach, the sound of the waves creating a serene backdrop as he unloaded a large picnic basket from the trunk. "i thought we'd do something a little different," he said, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "a beach picnic seemed like the perfect idea. you mentioned you've never had one before" he said, a note of shyness in his gaze.
"i love it," you replied, genuinely touched by the thoughtfulness of the gesture.
he spread out a blanket on the soft sand, arranging the picnic essentials with meticulous care. as you sat down, you couldn't help but admire the beautiful scenery—the ocean stretching out endlessly, the sky painted with hues of orange and pink.
bradley handed you a glass of sparkling champagne and raised his own in a toast. "to new beginnings," he said, his gaze meeting yours with a sincerity that made your heart skip a beat.
"to new beginnings," you echoed, clinking your glass against his.
the evening unfolded with an easy, natural flow. bradley had packed an impressive spread: fresh fruit, gourmet sandwiches, cheese, and even a couple of your favorite snacks, and to your mirth, a whole container of cherry candy. you both talked and laughed, sharing stories and learning more about each other.
at one point, he playfully fed you a strawberry, and you couldn't help but laugh at his antics. "you're really going all out, huh?" you teased.
"only the best for you," he replied with a wink, his tone light but his expression serious.
as the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky turned a deep, velvety blue, and bradley lit a few candles, their gentle flicker adding to the romantic ambiance. you found yourself inching closer to him, the warmth of his presence and the sound of his voice creating a bubble of intimacy that felt both exhilarating and comforting.
he glanced at you, his eyes soft and filled with an emotion that made your breath catch. "you know, I've wanted to do this for a long time," he admitted, his voice low and earnest.
"really?" you asked, feeling a flutter of excitement.
"yeah," he said, reaching out to gently brush a strand of hair from your face. "there's something about you, cherry. from the moment we met, I knew you were special."
your heart swelled with happiness as you looked into his eyes. "i feel the same way, bradley."
he smiled, a slow, genuine smile that lit up his face. "im glad," he said softly.
as the night continued, you sat together, sharing quiet moments and watching the stars appear one by one in the sky. It was the perfect first date, a beautiful beginning to what you both hoped would be a wonderful journey together.
bradley couldn't remember the last time anyone had left him so simply awe struck and feeling like a teenager in love the way that you had. he knew the moment he set eyes on you in the hard deck that you had stolen his heart in every sense of the phrase.
so flash forward to three months after your first date and there you were, pressed up against his body, leaning into his warmth with one of your ankles looped around his own, both your feet propped up on bradley's coffee table. his house had practically become yours, you spent more time there than at your own pathetic little rented apartment.
bradley inhaled the scent of your perfume, bergamot and oak, vanilla and of course cherry. he didn't know how much he loved the scent of cherry till you came into his life like a cherry scented whirlwind.
it was a Saturday night and that meant neither of you had to go into work the next day. he had asked you to come over to his place after a few drinks at the hard deck. he had cracked open a nice bottle of red wine and had ordered in some of the burritos you loved so much, topped of with that spicy salsa you loved.
a bowl of nachos sat between the two of you, and the burritos waited on the table for you two to stop gazing lovingly into each other's eyes.
the classic 'american pie' was playing softly in the background, but neither of you could really pay attention. your fingers traced over his muscled thighs, absent mindedly tracing your initials on the exposed skin, his denim shorts giving you more than enough room to gently trace the skin.
his arm was around your shoulders, gently tracing mindless circles on the exposed skin of your shoulder, and occasionally dropping kisses to the skin as well, letting his tongue dart out to earn a giggle from your pretty lips.
"ya having fun pretty girl?" he asked, brushing a loose strand of his hair back. "mmhmm" you nodded burrowing into his chest in a way that had his heart singing.
"i love how stupidly interesting this movie is" he confessed, and you laughed, affectionately kissing his nose. "i do too, it's the perfect movie to unwind to" you agreed, settling into his chest again as you took a sip of the cabernet he had poured you.
he adored these little moments with you. how he would love to have them with you every damn day. he wanted you to just be with him for ever and ever.
of course, the both of you had forgotten about the iconic scene in which vicky finally...achieved new highs. bradley's eyes went wide as he choked on his wine, watching as the explicit scene played out on tv, feeling your body tense beside him and your breathing quicken as she reached her peak on screen.
he felt red hot arousal course through his body, and the fact that your perfectly plush body was resting against him in a way that was just right was not helping him. his pants were becoming uncomfortably tight around his groin.
he heard you gulp beside him, eyes blown a little wide as your eyes shifted to his face, flushing a little when you saw he was already looking at you.
"sweetheart i hope that doesn't make you uncomfortable?" he asked, stroking your cheek in concern. he missed the way your thighs pressed together, but he did hear the whimper that left your lips.
"oh darling..." he cooed, thumb stroking your cheekbone. "you want me to do that to you pretty girl? want me to eat your pretty pussy?" he asked, smirking when you whimpered again softly, turning so you were both face to face.
"answer me darling " he said, moving the glasses away to pull you flush into his lap. you tried to stifle your sigh of pleasure when his large hands grabbed your hips, settling you snug against him.
"please?" you asked, hands trailing down his muscled chest. "please what, pretty girl?" he asked, hands reaching to the back of your shirt. "please can you eat me out, lieutenant bradshaw?" you cooed, feeling confident as you rolled your hips on his.
"fuck baby girl" he grunted, making quick work of undoing your bra and flinging it off off you, hands going slowly up and down your sides. "I'd love that" he groaned, slowly setting you down flat on the couch and resting one knee between your legs. he dragged your top off, and you hissed when the cold air graced your nipples, hardening them to peaks.
his eager tongue descended upon them, flat of it pressing against the sensitive buds and sucking them between his lips to flick at them in a way that had you gasping and gripping his luscious hair in your hands, chest arching high.
he bucked up into you then, hands holding your hips still as he stiffens against you. "you’re fucking sexy, ya know that?" he said "so. fucking. sexy." he punctuated each word with a flick of his tongue, teeth grazing the nipple and sucking it, letting his saliva coat it before pulling it, making you hiss in pleasure.
although it took him seconds, it felt like an eternity, as bradley travelled down the valley of your breasts, down to your stomach where he stopped, and licked slow circles around your belly button until you shuddered almost continually. his tongue dipped into your belly button and your foot jerks. his mouth travelled lower.
he took a minute to settle down, settling down to his knees in front of the couch, to become eye-level with your clothed cunt, while maintaining a cozy sort of closeness. once again, he gently stroked the waistband of your panties, and, with expert hands, eyed the pale blush pink colour of your underwear.
"i don't know if i tell you often", he moaned into your thigh with squinted eyes. "but you’re the prettiest fucking person ive ever seen" he said, biting the flesh of your hip. "prettiest fucking thing ive ever seen" he repeated, and your heart began to thud at an irregular pace against your chest as you watched the special show.
"tell me you want me baby" he asked, stopping his movements and panting on his knees. he looked like such a fucking angelic mess in that moment, voice raspy, chest heaving and hands gripping the flesh of your hips.
"i need to hear you tell me you want me and need me" he begged, slowly drawing your knees apart.
"please roos, i need you so bad! i want you!" you acquiesced, desperately reaching for his hand, which he immediately linked with your own.
"now, i have only one rule" he murmured pressing another kiss into your skin, this time even lower. he tilted your hips up just a bit higher, so they’re level with his nose; eyes just barely peeking over your mound. he inhaled sharply.
"you have to be as loud as you can or i stop. just please, fuck, please don’t hold back on me" he whispered, stroking your knuckles on the hand in which your fingers were entwined, his cheeks pink in the sparkling lights.
and with your nod, he’s dove in. you felt his tongue slip out, softly licking at your already swollen clit, and you realized this feeling was unlike anything. it was heaven and it's hell, it was sanity and insanity, and you loved it. your chest dipped hard with every aggressive rise, and the more it obscured your view of rooster, the more you adjusted yourself so that way it doesn’t. you wanted to see him.
his mouth wrapped around your clit and he gently sucked at it, his chin grazing your hole as his tongue explored the unfamiliar territory. he moaned out loud in surprise of how fucking sweet and tart you tasted.
"fuck sweet girl, you taste like cherry candy" he grunted, his own hips grinding against the coarse material of the couch.
he continued with his ministrations, pulling soft moans out of you. it was a melody, a harmony. a symphony of low groans and raw moans and desperate whines leaving your lips. each and every noise; every perfectly composed addition giving way to how your pleasure builds. "fu—oh, my god, roos!" you managed to gasp out, remembering his rule, head pressing against fluffy yellow cushion he had given you.
he’d barely touched you. hadn’t even quite moved on from your clit, and yet? you were a fucking mess. your breathing, uneven, your heart erratic. it was a dizzying experience everytime he sucked on your clit.
he alternated, tightening the control on his lips or flattening his tongue, lifting your legs to rest them on his shoulders.
your legs felt heavy against his shoulders, knees buckling from the pleasure. the noises that came from him are pornographic, to say the least. obscene and dirty, muffled by your puffy lips. it was wet, and it sounded like heaven.
"you’re doing great, pretty girl. so fucking good" he growled into your pussy, lapping at your juices.
then suddenly he was mouthing at your cunt, tongue dipping into your aching hole with fervour, trying to learn what made you feel good, what made you jerk, what made you tick. about your reactions. about your ethereal sounds. as much as his brain could take. he made you absolutely melt into putty with his experienced touch.
an unexpected high-pitched moan escaped your swollen mouth, and your breath caught in your throat. "holy shit! rooster! bradley! ah—fuck, just, you’re…right there" your hands clutched the leather between your fingers, and you were pretty sure you had ripped a hole in the velveteen couch.
a familiar warmth was beginning to pool in your tummy, fingers running through his hair in response, scratching at his scalp and pulling his hair roughly.
the veins in his arms began to strain and protrude and you almost came right there on the spot. you yanked on his hair again, and with a loud groan he jerked up into you. a dangerous glint gleaming in his eyes as he shot up to meet yours and he lifted himself off of you. "you’re playing a dangerous game, darling" he whispered, fingers trailing down your thighs.
his tongue swirled along your ribs, the place where you’re most ticklish, and it revealed his new favourite sound in the world - your laugh. over the curve of your breast, covered with hickeys and bites, and then finally right above your heart. where he lived, where he loved and could be loved. his home.
he snuck back down, fingers slipping into you, pressing against your g spot before his tongue began to suck harshly on your clit.
the familiar band of pleasure began to build in your belly and you whined in desperate pleasure. his tongue began to suck on the little pearl harder, and soon you were thrashing above him as the band snapped and you came all over his pretty face.
"thats it darling, nice and slow, come for me" he murmured, licking you through your orgasm. "mm-ah! roos!" you groaned as the sensitivity grew between your legs.
bradley stood up panting, moustache gleaming with your sparkling juices, and his tongue picked out to lick it away, the sight so obscenely perfect.
"you're my new favourite thing to eat in the world, sweet girl" he cooed, pressing his lips to yours in a delicate kiss.
gasping and panting, you kissed his back, gently stroking his hair. "thank you, that was amazing" you breathed, giggling when he sunk into you and the both of you descended into the plush couch.
"don't thank me baby girl, it's a pleasure to give my girl the best head of her life" he said, cracking a grin when you hid your face in his chest.
"god I adore you. i love you" he said, breathing the scent of your perfume again. "I love you too baby" you whispered, kissing his nose.
"c'mon, let's get up and cuddle now" he said, scooping you up and throwing you over his shoulder. you squealed in laughter as he tickled your side, hanging over his shoulder, playfully swatting his butt as he made his way up the stairs.
this was the kind of romance you'd only read bout in high school.
the hard deck was alive with its usual blend of laughter and lively conversation as you and the squad gathered for another fun night out. the air was filled with the familiar buzz of camaraderie, and everyone was in high spirits. but tonight, there was a special gleam in bradley's eyes that you couldn't quite place.
as the evening progressed, he excused himself and made his way to the old upright piano in the corner of the bar. you watched curiously as he sat down, his fingers lightly grazing the keys, testing the feel of the instrument. the room began to quiet down as people noticed him at the piano, a sense of anticipation building.
he looked up and caught your eye, his expression softening. "this one's for you, cherry," he said, his voice carrying across the room. a few murmurs of surprise and interest rippled through the crowd as he began to play a slow, romantic tune.
the familiar notes of heaven by Bryan Adams began to play.
as the melody filled the bar, you felt a warm blush spread across your cheeks. bradley's playing was beautiful, each note filled with emotion. his eyes never left yours, and it felt like the rest of the room faded away, leaving just the two of you connected by the music.
when he began to sing, his voice was smooth and heartfelt, the lyrics speaking of love and longing. it was clear to everyone that this was a song from the depths of his heart, and the dedication to you made it all the more special.
"and baby, you're all that I want,
when you're lying here in my arms,
im finding it hard to believe,
we're in heaven,
and love is all that i need,
and I found it there in your heart" he crooned softly to you and you felt an overwhelming love settle in your heart for the man at the piano.
the squad couldn't resist teasing. jake leaned over to phoenix and bob, a playful grin on his face. "hearts are breaking in the world tonight," he quipped, eliciting a round of chuckles from the group.
"yeah, looks like rooster's got it bad," phoenix added, giving you a wink.
bob nodded in agreement, smiling warmly. "It's like a scene out of a high school movie."
despite the teasing, there was an underlying sense of genuine happiness from everyone, seeing how much bradley cared for you.
as the song drew to a close, bradley's final notes lingered in the air, and the room erupted into applause. he stood up and walked back to you, his gaze never wavering.
you met him halfway, feeling a rush of emotions. "that was beautiful, baby" you said, your voice soft with gratitude and affection.
he smiled, his eyes shining with sincerity. "I'm glad you liked it, cherry. It was all for you."
as the squad continued to tease and make light-hearted comments, you and bradley shared a look that said it all. in that moment, surrounded by friends and wrapped in the warmth of his music, you both felt like high schoolers in love, caught up in the sweet, innocent magic of the night.
rooster had invited the entire squad over to his place for beers n barbecue, but it was just an excuse to play grand theft auto with the boys. nat and you had just rolled your eyes and decided to play monopoly.
rooster kept glancing over his shoulder towards the two of you, smiling when he saw you laugh, throwing your head back and exposing the skin of your neck to him. he inhaled deeply when you bit your lip, teeth sinking into the flesh in concentration.
he groaned as hangman shoved him in the shoulder to make him lose in the game, and he stood up to head to the kitchen.
"baby you want a beer? nat, what about you?" he asked, walking over to you to drop a kiss to your shoulder.
"please" nat groaned, looking up from the board. "cherry's been kicking my ass at this stupid game for an hour" she said, making you laugh as you picked up the bowl of nachos you had been sharing to refill it.
"I'll be right back babe" you said, taking your empty beer bottles and following rooster to the kitchen.
"you having fun?" he asked, dragging you to him by your belt loops and dropping a kiss to your forehead. "i am! i missed spending time with nix" you said, kissing his cheeks and walking over to check the apple pie you had put in the oven.
rooster bit back a groan as you bent at the waist to check it, and before you knew it he was pulling you in, pressing your front against the counter. his fingers slid to the front of your jeans, slowly zipping them down.
"bradley! what in the world are you doing!" you hissed, hands settling on top of his own. "our friends are literally right there playing GTA!" you exclaimed, gasping when his finger slipped into the band of your cotton panties.
he dipped his finger to your clit, smirking when he felt the wetness on your clit. his fingers began to rub deft circles and your knees buckled, a soft whimper leaving your lips when his lips dropped to your ear to nibble on the shell.
"my my, you're a dirty little girl aren't you? getting fingered in the kitchen while our friends are in the next room?" he purred and your head dropped into his shoulder.
"fuck baby.." you moaned, and he sucked a hickey into your neck.
"god i love seeing you like this" he groaned, fingers speeding up against your clit, thumb settling on it, slipping one finger in at a time, pressing against your spongy walls, taking in the symphony of your moans.
"fuck I'm so close" you whined, pressing harder against his fingers. "cum for me darling, cum all over my fingers" he said and you came undone with a shudering gasp, chest heaving.
"hey cherry I'd like my beer cold please!" pheonix's voice cut the air and you almost jumped out of your skin.
rooster laughed as you heated up against him, pulling the zipper of your jeans back up before leaning back against the counter to lick his fingers, that had you playfully glaring at him.
"hey, bradshaw! you just died in the game man!" hangman's smug voice cut in, and the both of you laughed and pulled away.
"I'll see you again later honey" you said, kissing his cheeks. "love you" he said, nuzzling into your cheek.
"Jesus, get a room!" payback exclaimed as he stepped into the kitchen, looking for more popcorn.
"let them be! they're so cute together!" phoenix said, walking in, with her arms crossed. "cherry, babe. it's been fifteen minutes. are you brewing the beer from scratch?" she joked, walking over to the fridge to pick up the beer herself.
"sorry, she got distracted" rooster grinned and you nudged him in the side. natasha grimaced and payback pretended to gag.
"you're like two horny teenagers" fanboy commented as he walked in too.
"what can I say?" rooster shrugged. "she makes me feel oh so high school" he smiled.
you sighed dreamily, watching bradley's pretty shirt flutter in the sea breeze. he had taken you out to a cute restaurant on the beach, which had outdoor seating and was decorated in quiet finesse.
the ocean's edge had been a charming and elegant beachside restaurant known for its stunning panoramic views of the sea. as the sun had set, casting a golden glow over the water.
the sound of waves gently lapping against the shore had provided a soothing backdrop to the evening, along with the rhythmic hum of the Bryan Adams song playing in the restaurant.
soft candlelight had flickered on your table, illuminating the beautifully set plates and the fresh, exquisite dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. the ambiance had been both romantic and serene, perfect for an intimate dinner with rooster, where every detail had been crafted to enhance the dining experience by the sea.
the candlelight danced in his eyes, which were filled with warmth and a hint of mischief. you both leaned in close, sharing quiet laughter and soft, playful touches. your conversation flowed effortlessly, akin to two teenagers in love, filled with lighthearted teasing and genuine curiosity about each other's lives.
rooster's hand occasionally brushed against yours, sending a pleasant shiver up your spine. you found yourselves lost in his eyes, which reflected your own dreams for the future. there was an innocence and purity to your interaction, each smile and glance brimming with affection. the way he looked at you, with unguarded admiration, made you feel like the most important person in the world.
bradley leaned in a little closer, his expression turning slightly more serious but still filled with warmth. "you know," he said his voice soft and earnest, "i've been thinking a lot lately."
"oh? about what?" you asked, a hint of curiosity and amusement in your voice.
"about us," he said, his eyes locking onto yours. "about how much I love spending time with you, how much you mean to me."
your heart skipped a beat, and you felt a warm flush spread through you. "i feel the same way, bradley."
he took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. "I've been thinking... I don't want us to just have these moments in between missions and busy schedules. I want more of this. More of you."
you felt a flutter of excitement and anticipation. "what are you trying to say?" you asked, excitement and anticipation bubbling in your chest.
he reached across the table, taking your hand in his. "i want you to move in with me," he said, his voice filled with sincerity. "I want to wake up next to you every day, to come home to you. I want us to build a life together, not just in moments but every single day."
your eyes welled up with tears of happiness. "bradley, are you serious?"
he nodded, a smile spreading across his face. "I've never been more serious about anything in my life. I love you, and I want us to be together, always."
tears of joy streamed began to well up in your eyes as you squeezed his hand. "I love you too, bradley. yes, I would love to move in with you." you exclaimed and he laughed, tilting your chin to capture your lips in a tender kiss.
"one day," he whispered, kissing you softly, "I'm gonna put a ring on your finger" he promised, eyes boring deep into your own.
you felt your heart hammering again, melting into a puddle of warm, happy goo.
"I'd want nothing more" you whispered back.
you could so get used to this. because being with bradley just felt oh so high school.

Jake Seresin never thought he would settle.
Jake Seresin never thought he would come home to freshly baked dinner almost every night.
Jake Seresin never thought he would come home from deployment with pure joy.
Jake Seresin never thought he would be a dad.
Jake Seresin also never thought he would be a husband. A great one.
But here he was being the best of him for his family.
One night, with his wife peacefully laying beside him and their two beautiful babies sleeping soundly in their shared room,Jake Seresin couldn't help but reflect on how the story of their love had begun.
As he lay there, the soft glow of the moonlight filtering through the curtains illuminated the room, casting a gentle aura over the scene. The hushed sounds of nighttime surrounded them, creating a tranquil atmosphere that contrasted with the high-octane tales of Jake’s daring adventures.
His mind drifted back to the Hard Deck, where the neon lights and pulsating beats had set the stage for their first meeting. Jake couldn't shake the memory of that night – the electric connection, the shared laughter, and the undeniable chemistry that had sparked between them. Little did he know that the chance encounter in the bar would evolve into a love story that now filled their shared space with warmth and joy.
August 18 2018:
The Hard Deck pulsed with the kind of energy that seemed to defy gravity, much like the Jake Seresin himself. Bright lights painted the room in vivid hues, casting an electric but also soft glow over the animated crowd. You, just another face in the buzzing sea of people, found solace in the dimly lit corner of the bar.
And then, he swaggered in, a living legend in khaki uniform and aviator sunglasses Jake Seresin, the talk of the town. His sandy blond,sleek hair and the unmistakable cocky grin made your heart flutter unexpectedly. As if guided by some unseen force, he ended up at the bar right beside you.
The air crackled with unspoken tension, a silent dialogue of glances exchanged beneath the pulsating beats. Penny must have noticed the incident because she leaned over to your ear and whispered encouragingly for you to break the ice.
"Fly any cool jets lately?" you asked, your attempt at nonchalance betrayed by the slight quiver in your voice,it wasn't expected.
He shot you a smirk, a glint of mischief in his eyes, and the conversation took off like a supersonic jet. Jake's tales of high-flying adventures and near misses filled the air, weaving a spell that drew you into his orbit. The chaotic sounds of the bar faded away as you found yourself captivated by his world.
“Do you think they are having fun?” Phoenix asked Rooster while sipping her beer.
“Nah,i guess not”
But your and his laughter became the soundtrack of the night, shared stories creating a bridge between two strangers who felt strangely connected.
The Hard Deck, with its bright ambiance and heady atmosphere, became the backdrop to a love story written in stolen glances and genuine smiles.
In the heartbeat of that night, you realized that Jake Seresin was not just a daring pilot but a soul with whom you shared an undeniable connection. The clinking of glasses and the distant hum of conversations faded into the background, leaving only the vibrant chemistry that sparked between you and the real-life Hangman, as the Hard Deck transformed into the unexpected stage for the beginning of something extraordinary.
And both of you were grateful for Hard Deck and Penny that night.
October 10 2019:
Life with Jake was fun.
Life with Jake was an exhilarating journey, an adventure marked by laughter, spontaneity, and a touch of unpredictability. From the moment he entered your world, it was as if a burst of vibrant energy had been injected into the everyday routine, transforming the mundane into a thrilling escapade.
His infectious zest for life was like a magnetic force, pulling you into a whirlwind of excitement. Every day was an opportunity for new experiences, whether it was exploring uncharted places or simply finding joy in the ordinary. Jake's playful spirit infused even the simplest moments with a sense of fun and wonder.
Together, you navigated the ups and downs with a shared sense of humor that made challenges feel more like temporary detours than roadblocks. Life with Jake was a rollercoaster of laughter, a soundtrack of inside jokes and spontaneous adventures that left a trail of fond memories.
What made it even more special was Jake's ability to find joy in the little things. Whether it was a spontaneous road trip, a homemade dinner, or just a quiet evening at home, he had a knack for turning the ordinary into something extraordinary.
It was in those everyday moments that you discovered the true meaning of happiness – the joy of simply being with someone who knew how to make every moment count.
Life with Jake wasn't just fun; it was a celebration of love, friendship, and shared experiences. He taught you that life's journey is not just about reaching a destination but about savoring the joy of the ride. With Jake by your side, every day was an opportunity to embrace the thrill of the unknown, and you wouldn't have had it any other way.
Especially after little over a year, Jake knelt on one knee one morning as both of you were preparing breakfast. As you turned around in your seat to grab the toast, you saw him on just one knee, holding a blue velvet box, delicately opening it to reveal a slim, gold ring with a dainty not so big diamond in the center – a thoughtful choice you knew he had made, understanding how he moved in minimalist jewelry.
"I had a speech, and - aside from the fact that I have a lot of things to say about you but, I don't remember anything else now and more than that but look I'm madly in love with you. And ı can't think of a day where ı open my eyes and not see you or going to bed without you being the last person ı talk to and I just - Screw it, Y/N, I can't imagine a life without you in it, and just - marry me, please?"
His eyes were already shining before taking a deep breath, his lips trembling as he bitten his lower lip, his lips already pink, and there he was proposing in his black fitted shirt and in his red gingham pajama bottom.
You screamed, placing your hands over your heart, shaking your head as you cried, "Yes! Yes, oh my God, yes, hundred times yes!" Before you could even stand up, you found yourself throwing yourself to the floor, where he hugged you tightly.
Also, you remember that celebrating only with close friends and family in your home was very humble.
You didn't know too many people and you two didn't want a huge ceremony. So the backyard was the cutest place to get married.
As your bridesmaids Phoenix, Halo, and Penny took responsibility for decorating the backyard of your shared home with all the decors, illuminating the trees and walls.
The moment Jake saw you in the simple white wedding dress, it became a moment etched forever in everyone's mind who was present.
He was crouched, pulling you inside for a hug before closing his open mouth in disbelief; you were also laughing shyly as you pulled him to yourself.
He wore a white suit, with pink embroidered flowers on the sides resembling the headpiece you wore.
Polaroids were taken, all the photos were captured on film, making everything about the night,everyone was having the time of their lives.
Whole dagger squad was there and they were the life and the soul of the party.
Jake’s sisters,his family and your siblings and family were there.
Even admiral Beau came. Maverick brought him; he also brought Ice.
The night was more fun, more enchanting and more emotional than anyone expected.
“They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together, still going strong..”
January 30 2020:
Three years ago, on January 30, you remember telling Jake that you were pregnant. Technically, you screamed it out.
Both of you decided to attend Shania Twain’s show at Madison Square Garden, given your shared admiration for her.
He just came from a 4 week deployment and you knew he needed a break, especially during tense times.
So you planned a trip to New York because he loved there but honestly who doesn't love New York?
But something happened almost before 5 days before the trip.
You got sick. It all started with a lack of appetite, and then suddenly, you felt like eating everything and anything. You blamed hormones until morning sickness kicked in.
If there was one thing you absolutely hated, it was nausea. You remember waking up shaking and retching, your body still feeling the need to rush to the toilet despite not having eaten anything that morning.
For the first three days of these incidents, you were alone. Jake was about to return from the deployment.
Not wanting to disturb him and worry him, you didn't tell him anything.
Whenever he asked why you looked unwell, you simply told him it was just nausea and nothing serious.
One day after Jake went out with Bradley, you remember calling your best friend,Phoenix, asking her to bring you a pregnancy test, choosing to avoid any tabloid talk.
Your heart was pounding, legs bouncing,palms sweaty, and nausea had already begun when you followed the instructions, waiting anxiously.
And then it happened; a scream of disbelief, one hand covering your mouth while the other tightly held the test - you were pregnant.
You remember Jake loving many things, many people, and many abstract ideas like love. You knew he loved babies and kids, often talking about them with you, mentioning seeing you both building a family.
So, after visiting the obstetrician and learning you were five weeks pregnant, you were dazed and excited to tell Jake but decided to do it in a different setting.
Four days after your visit, you and Jake were at Madison Square Garden singing along with Shania Twain.
You stood in front of Jake, leaning your back against him, his arms wrapped around your waist, your hands holding onto his arms, both of you swaying to “You’re still the one’ " while his chin rested on your shoulder.
When you moved slightly to look at him, Jake gazed back at you while singing.
“You're still the one I run to
The one that I belong to
You're still the one I want for life
You're still the one that I love
The only one I dream of
You're still the one I kiss goodnight..”
He kissed your lips and lightly tapped your forehead. Slowly pulling back, he smiled at you.
And then you said it.
"I'm pregnant."
His eyebrows shot up, leaning closer, "I can't hear you!"
You grinned, turning in his arms, "I'm pregnant! Five weeks pregnant!"
His world stopped, mouth forming an 'O' shape as his eyes widened,
"Y/N, are you kidding?!"
With a surprised smile, he asked, lips stretching into a grin, "My love, are you for real?" he asked.
Nodding with joy, you brought his hand from his cheek to your stomach, saying, "You're going to be a dad!"
His breakdown, tears streaming down, biting his lip as he threw his head back, red-nosed,his adam apple bobbing and crying with veins visible on his forehead, hugging you before crying into your shoulder – the only thing he needed to cry into before crying to your shoulder.
His eyes were teary as he held you, feeling him pulling back to rest his forehead against yours, moving his hands to the sides of your neck, "I love you. I love you so much," pulling you back into a hug, one hand moving towards the back of your head, the other on your back, and bringing you closer.
The 9 month pregnancy was smooth and emotional.
The 9 months of your pregnancy were painful, but there wasn't much else to feel aside from your love for Jake's incredible support and assistance and your admiration for your daughter, Emma Seresin.
Since the moment Emma came into the world, you knew she had wrapped her tiny finger around Jake's.
Your daughter was a bond between both of you, but you took pride in her character and personality at such a young age.
When Emma turned 3, you felt proud of how you and Jake could chat with her, even if it was about Jake’s job or hard topics like that and you loved every moment of him talking about how much Emma loved strawberry chapstick or how her nail color was important for her.
On a day when a familiar nausea and change in appetite reminded you of a late period, one question lingered in your mind.
So, over a meal, you brought it up to your husband, who was struggling to eat with your daughter in his lap.
Long story short, you were pregnant – again.
June 26 2023:
You, your husband, and your daughter were sitting in your backyard, allowing Emma to get some vitamin D. While you were writing in your journal, both of you were on the swings, and Emma was playing with her toys and running around, Jake was reading a book beside you.
‘’Mommy?’’
"Yes, sweetheart?"
She ran towards you, putting both of her hands on her knees before looking at your eight-month-pregnant belly and grinning, "What's in there?"
Jake chuckled, putting his book aside to pay closer attention.
"Your baby sibling is in there," you smiled at her.
"But how? Can I sit in there too?"
You and Jake chuckled at her question. "You used to sit in there, darling. But then, you were born three years ago."
Emma frowned, looking at you. "I want to go back in."
You looked at Jake, silently asking for his help.
Before lifting her into your lap, he leaned forward, hands wrapping around her underarms. "But your sibling won't have enough space then."
"I don't care," she whined, crossing her arms and looking down while talking, her lips quivering.
"Your sibling needs all the space to grow up and play with you. Don't you want that?" You asked gently, one hand on your knee.
"But he'll take my toys."
"You can share all your toys with him, sweetheart. He'll share his toys with you too." You chuckled, fearing she wouldn't like her sibling. It was something neither you nor Jake was ready for.
"But, but, you and dad will buy more toys for him.I don't want him." She said with a whimper, arms crossed and looking down, her lips trembling.
You and Jake shared a look before turning back to your three-year-old.
"Emma," Jake gently called her name, looking at her without lowering his gaze, "Sweetie, look at me, please." Emma slowly looked at Jake, allowing both of you to see her teary eyes. "You know Mommy and Daddy love you, and we'll always love you, right?"
You reassured her, saying, 'We love you very much, baby, and nothing will change that,'" you said, placing one hand on your knee, "We're excited for your sibling to meet you. He loves you too."
"Didn't you get excited the other day to show him your room?" Jake asked, rubbing her back gently.
"Yes," she murmured.
"You have so much to show and teach him. You can be his first best friend. Isn't that nice?"
As if understanding what was said, Emma slowly nodded her head.
"We love you, sweetheart. Forever," Jake said, leaning to give her a kiss on the forehead.
Emma turned to her father, crossing her arms and raising two fingers, one for you and one for Jake, "Promise?"
As if your hearts melted right there, you would cry as you locked your pinky finger with hers, watching Jake do the same.
"We promise."
But nobody warned you about the hell you'd go through when your daughter started to envy Calvin.
The day Emma entered the hospital room, holding hands with Javy, and looked at you lying in the hospital bed next to Calvin, making baby sounds as he moved his arms and legs,his eyes wide open, you knew it was somehow going good.
She seemed very welcoming.
Jake sat on the other side of his son, playing with your hair as a non-verbal way to thank you and comfort you after the pain you went through. His lips were fixed in a smile; his heart was pounding with happiness at the addition of the new healthy family members.
Emma looked at her parents, unable to see the middle sibling. She was overwhelmed because she knew she would meet her brother.
"Hello, sweetheart!" Jake grinned at her, bending slightly and opening his arms. Before kissing her cheek, he hugged her tightly as he carried her to sit on his hip, watching her eyes immediately shift to the newborn baby.
"Meet Calvin, buddy." Tired but with a smile on your face, you spoke, hoping she would take the change lightly.
Well, at least you hoped so.
But as Emma threw herself onto Jake, burying her head on his shoulder, crying, it was expected.
Javy and his wife didn't know how to help. Just like Bradley and Natasha.
"Hey, hey, what's the problem?" Jake asked, rubbing her back as she cried.
"I don't like him," Emma said, dragging him, her arms wrapped around Jake's neck.
You both know she wasn't a kid like this and it surprised you both.
Your heart broke, and Jake's smile faded as if triggered by the screams of your daughter, Calvin started crying too. You sat down, gently picking him up into your arms, placing him against your chest, soothing him, and supporting the back of his head as you pleaded for almost everything to be done by him.
Until Jake locked onto Emma after realizing she was causing the crying. He got out of the small room and stopped in the corridor, holding her, bouncing softly to calm her down.
"Come on, baby, please calm down," he said with a sigh, "Why don't you like Calvin?" he muttered, rubbing her back.
Emma sniffled, pulled back, but while keeping her father's head down, she moved her hand to touch Jake's necklace - the one you and Emma gave him on Father's Day, "Because-because-because he's little and needs more attention, and you won’t love me anymore.."
Jake sat in a chair, still holding his daughter in the same way. "What makes you think that?"
"He will have more love because he's little and needs more attention."
Jake took a deep breath and let the words drown him. While it was true that the little one needed necessary and more attention, he didn't know how to explain to the older one that it wasn't the case.
"When you were a little baby," he started, looking at her, "Mommy and Daddy were everywhere with you. You wanted your parents,us, with you all the time. You cried when we were asleep, spit up too much on us," Jake chuckled to himself, remembering those moments and realizing how everything felt like just yesterday, "You always wanted your mommy and daddy with you. And we never left you," he finished, "So, what makes you think we'd leave you now, sweetheart?"
Emma didn't respond.
"Your brother can't talk yet. He can't say when he's hurt, he doesn't even know the taste of your favorite blueberry pancakes. And we have to make sure he does all these things just like you. But the thing is," Jake leaned to whisper in her ear as if sharing a secret, "Mommy and Daddy can't do it alone. We can't do it without you."
Emma slowly looked at Jake, her face with furrowed eyebrows.
"We promised, sweetheart. We promised to love you forever. Have we ever broken a promise?" He watched her nod, "And we won't. So what do you say? Can you give your brother a chance? Actually, he's quite funny." Jake smiled at her.
"Is he funnier than you?" She asked.
Jake laughed, "Much funnier! You just have to look closely."
Emma giggled quietly.
"Mommy is so excited for you to meet Calvin, do you know that? She was telling me about all the numbers you can teach him, all the pictures you two will take. And what he'll get you for Christmas."
"Can he get me a book about stars? With pictures?" She asked excitedly.
Jake grinned, filled her face with kisses, and heard her giggle, knowing it was one of his favorite sounds, "Tell him."
When Jake stopped, Emma sighed, lowering her shoulder, "Okay, Daddy. I'll say to him.."
"Thank you." He smiled gratefully, "Shall we go back?"
When your husband hugged your daughter and walked in with her in his arms, you couldn't know what to expect until you saw your them
Shy and embarrassed Emma, after sharing a glance with Javy,and hugged Jake after returning to her place.
Calvin had also returned to his place, and silence had returned.
Emma looked at him again, finally noticing how small his hands were, and got curious. Reluctantly, she leaned down a bit with the intention of poking his hand.
But the moment she touched him, it was the moment Calvin wrapped his fingers around hers, making her smile.
"He's holding my finger!" She squealed with delight, "You were right, Daddy. He is funny."
"Yes, you just need to get to know him a bit more," Jake said, bending down and kissing Calvin’s hand before looking at you and whispering an ‘’ı love you so much’’
He was happy that you were still the one to love.
02.05 am February 17:
There was a tired smile formed on his face after he thought about memories.
Beside him, his wife, you stirred in your sleep, a serene expression on your face.
That made him realize how late it was.
Jake turned to face your sleeping form. Moved some stray of your hair and kissed your soft cheek. and while he was looking at you he noticed something.. Jake's heart swelled with gratitude for the life you both had built together.
Your shared room became a sanctuary, adorned with the echoes of laughter,after some rough night; soft pantings and ‘’ı love you’s’’, sometimes a place where you comforted each other and the soft breathing of your sleeping kids, and the quiet acknowledgment of a love that had deepened with time.
In the stillness of the night, surrounded by the tangible evidence of your shared journey – the woman he loved, you, and the two precious souls you both had brought into the world together– Jake couldn't help but marvel at the unexpected beauty of how their story had unfolded. The Hard Deck, with its bright yellow lights and adrenaline-fueled beginnings, now seemed like a distant, yet cherished, memory in the symphony of their family life.
And he was grateful that you were still the one who he kissed for goodnight.

Surprise!
Request: Okay okay, you got me with protective Jake !! 😱This makes me think of an idea where the reader is his childhood friend but they haven't seen each other in a while due to his job. So you decide to surprise him at the base when he doesn't expect it, to tell him as well you're moving back to San Diego and he's more than speechless and unbelievable happy. So you catch up on the lost time and he gets always into protective mode when the other guys come near you but you become friends with all the daggers and Jake's mood lightened up 100% since you're here and it's all perfect ? 🫣
Pairings: Jake Seresin x Best Friend!Reader
Warnings: fluff
Masterlist
San Diego, the sunniest and probably the warmest place on earth. You had just arrived and stepped out of your car in sunny San Diego. You loved it already and would continue to love it for the whole time you would be living there. The reason you were here was because you wanted to see your childhood friend, Jake Seresin, and you would be moving here after a wonderful job opportunity at none other than Top Gun. No, you weren’t a pilot but you were going to be the new maintenance supervisor for the F-18s. You were excited to say the least. You didn’t have a lot of stuff due to moving around. You needed a place to stay and quickly since you started tomorrow. First you needed to get to base and say hi to your bosses, which is where you were now. It was easy to get onto base considering you had your military ID. You knew that Jake was here and you were excited to see him.
As you walked into the building you passed many people in their military uniforms. You weren’t in yours considering you had just arrived. When you were halfway to Beau “Cyclone” Simpson’s office you heard a voice that you hadn’t heard in forever and a smile popped onto your face and you followed it. You walked over to the voices and saw the tall, blonde, and green-eyed man he was going on about something nobody had seemed to notice you besides a blonde haired and blue-eyed man with glasses and he smiled and waved and you waved back. As Jake took a break in his little back and forth, he was having with a darked haired woman you decided to speak up. “Don’t believe anything he says. He tends to over exaggerate on stories.” You said and you could see him tense up and started to turn around.
“How the hell-” He began and then he saw you and the tension melted away and had the biggest smile on his face “Y/N? What are you doing here?” He asked, bringing you into a hug that you missed so much.
“Well, I decided to surprise you! So, surprise! Also, I’m moving here.” You said and hugged him back and closed your eyes.
“Wow, I don’t know what to say.” He said as he pulled away.
“Bagman, not knowing what to say? That’s a first.” A man with a mustache said and everyone laughed as Jake flipped him off. “You gonna introduce us?” He asked but Jake couldn’t stop looking at you smiling and you shook your head.
“I’m Y/N “Galaxy” Y/L/N, the new F-18 Maintenance Supervisor.” You said
“I heard we were getting a new one but that was about it. Hi, I’m Natasha Trace callsign Phoenix.” Natasha said “Let me just add, thank you for finally getting Bagman here to shut up and it’s going to be so nice having another female around here.” She said and then pulled you into a hug and you laughed.
“I’m Javy Machado callsign Coyote. Jake here has told me a lot about you.” He said and you chuckled.
“All good things I hope.” You said with a chuckle and elbowed Jake you had rolled his eyes at you but the smile never left his face.
“I’m Robert Floyd callsign Bob.” Bob said and you smiled at him.
“I love the callsign. It is so simple and I love it. Plus, your glasses make you look cute.” You said and he blushed and ducked his head. There was one thing about you that Jake loved and that is that you said what you thought and took crap from anyone.
“I’m Bradley Bradshaw callsign Rooster.” Bradley walked over and took your hand and kissed it and you smiled and Jake did not like that one bit.
“Back off, Chicken.” Jake said, taking your hand out of his and pushing him away and you just shook your head.
“Mickey Gracia callsign Fanboy. Maybe that you're around Jake will lighten up and stop being well Jake.” Mickey said and you turned to look at Jake.
“Have you been a jerk to them?” You asked and he shook his head.
“It’s called tough love.” He said
“Tough love my ass. I’m Ruben Fitz callsign Payback.” He said and shook your hand.
“Galaxy? How did you get that name?” Natasha asked and you smiled.
“Jake gave it to me first then my old squad gave it to me despite not being an aviator. I loved looking at the stars and knew everything about the galaxy and space. I geeked out once and the name just stuck.” You said with a smile and so did Jake he remembered when it happened.
“I love it.” Natasha said
“Why thank you.” You said and then looked at your watch “I need to go and meet Cyclone. Jake, do you want me to show me the way to his office?” You asked and he nodded his head and put a hand on your back as you both turned and started to head off. “It was nice meeting you all. I look forward to working with you and hanging out with you.” You called over your shoulder as you got a chorus of ‘you too’ and ‘goodbye’.
“Why didn’t you tell me you were coming?” Jake asked as you walked.
“I literally got the call about it yesterday.” You said and leaned into him briefly.
“I just can’t believe you’re here and staying.” He said and you smiled. Jake was like a brother to you. He was there through every breakup and every emergency trip. The thought of you two dating didn’t sit well with either of you so it was never pursued. You both were happy being friends. “Have you found a place yet?” He asked and you shook your head.
“Nope.” You said popping the p.
“Well, you’re in luck. I need a roommate.” He said
“Jake.” You started
“I’m not taking no for an answer.” He said and you sighed.
“Fine. I’ll meet you at my Jeep after I’m done here.” You said as you both arrived at the office.
“Deal.” He said as you knocked on the door and heard a faint ‘come in’ and you turned the handle and walked in giving Jake a smile.
——————————————————————
The meeting went great and as you said your goodbyes to Cyclone, Warlock, and Maverick you walked to your Jeep where Jake was standing and he smiled when he saw you. “How was it?” He asked and you smiled.
“Went really well! I'm excited to be working with y'all.” You said as your southern accent came out just a tiny bit like it always dies when you were around Jake.
“Great! Now I know my jet is in great hands under a person that I trust.” He said and gave you a little nudge. “Now let's get to my place where you'll be staying.” He said.
“I'll stay until I find myself a place.” You said as you opened the driver's side door and he shook his head.
“Not a chance.” Jake said and you chuckled.
“We'll see about that. I'll follow you.” You told him and he nodded as you got into your Jeep and him into his truck that was right beside yours. It didn't take long to get to his place and he lived close to the base and a bar called The Hard Deck which you think you'd really like. He pulled into the driveway and you pulled in right next to him. You were just about to get out when he opened the door for you.
“Now we can catch up and then meet everyone at The Hard Deck.” He said as you got out “We can unpack you later.” He added when he saw you looking at your stuff about to grab it. You huffed he always knew what you were thinking.
“Fine.” You said and followed him into the cozy little house and when you walked in you were surprised by how warm it felt.
“Beer?” He asked and you nodded.
“Please.” You said as he walked to the fridge as he set his keys down and you did the same. He grabbed two and then pointed towards the living room where you followed and sat on the couch. He opened the beer and gave it to you.
“So, what have you been up to? It’s been forever and I missed you.” Jake said as he took a drink of his beer and then looked at you as you took a drink of your beer.
“Well, let’s see I was last stationed at Naval Air Station Fallon in Fallon, Nevada and then we got deployed to South Korea for 6 months and then we came back and I got stationed at Top Gun. My mother died 2 months ago due to an incurable illness and then dad died a month after. My brother and sister never talk to me and they only showed up for the funeral and then left. My boyfriend of 5 months broke up with me because he cheated on me while I was deployed.” You told him and he looked at you with an unrecognizable look on his face, one that almost was of pity. “Don’t look at me like that.” You said and turned to look away from him as you took a drink of your beer.
“Y/N, I’m so sorry.” Jake said not knowing what to say.
“It’s alright. I’ve always had a rough life so this is nothing new.” You said and looked at him and he shook his head.
“You don’t deserve this. Why didn’t you call me? I would’ve been down there in an instant.” Jake asked you set your beer on the coffee table and turned to look at him fully.
“Because we hadn’t talked in years. We saw each other at graduation and then you were heading off to basic training.” You said “I went two years after you. I was taking care of mom. I didn’t want to go but she didn’t want to hold me back and told me to go and so I did.” You said with a shrug and he sat his beer down on the coffee table next to yours and pulled you into a hug.
“I’m here for you now, Galaxy. You’re not getting rid of me anytime soon, I promise.” He said and hugged him back and sunk into his embrace you truly did miss his hugs and his smell. You closed your eyes taking in the warmth and felt him drop a kiss onto your head. After a few moments of being in each other's arms you both released each other. You two stayed up and talked about your lives and just catching up in general and then you both ending up falling asleep.
——————————————————————
The next morning you both got up early and had breakfast together and then you both were heading off the base. Neither you, Jake, or any of The Daggers saw each other throughout the day, due to you being busy getting into a routine and meeting your teammates that you really liked and everyone got along unlike your last squad. Before you knew it, it was time to leave while packing up getting ready to leave Jake and The Daggers showed up and you smiled when you heard Jake calling out your name. “Hey, Galaxy! We’re heading off to The Hard Deck. Wanna join?” He asked and you smiled.
“Of course! Let me finish up here and I’ll be there.” You said and went back to finishing up what you needed. He turned to the others.
“You guys go on. We’ll meet you there.” Jake said
“Woah! Jake waiting up for someone? That’s new.” Mickey said and Jake rolled his eyes.
“I can be nice when people deserve it. Now go on. We’ll meet you there.” He said and they left. You smiled and shook your head and in no time you were done and you both were heading off to The Hard Deck.
When you reached your destination he opened the door for you and the both of you walked in and straight to the bar. You saw a nice blonde haired woman working and she smiled at Jake. “Jake, I see you finally decided to join! Who is this you have with you?” She asked.
“Penny meet Y/N. Y/N meet Penny. She is the owner of the bar.” Jake said and you and Penny smiled at each other.
“Hi Penny! Nice to meet you! You have such a lovely place.” You said and she smiled.
“Oh don’t flatter me. What can I get you?” She asked
“Let me see if I still remember it.” Jake cut in and you tipped your head in a motion like ‘go on’ with a smirk “She’ll take a Long Island Iced Tea with lemon and put it on my tab.” He said, looking at you as you nodded.
“You got it.” Penny said
“You actually remembered.” You said
“Of course. How could I forget?” Jake said as Penny came back with your drink and what you were assuming was his original.
“Thank you, Penny.” You said and smiled and nodded and you both headed over to the group where you all greeted each other.
“Where have you been all this time?” Natasha asked and you looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
“What do you mean?” You asked her.
“Ever since you have come here, Jake has been so much happier and so much more friendly and he hasn’t been leaving anybody hanging.” Natasha said and everyone agreed.
“She makes me happy. I would do anything for her.” He said and you nodded and it was left at that. As the night went on you had been hit on more times than you could count or liked but you didn’t have to worry about it for long because Jake was always there to scare them off and you were grateful and you weren’t looking for a relationship right now. You were quick to make friends with everyone especially Bob, he was quiet and reserved and you really liked that and he didn’t try to hit on you.
As you mingled about with the squad Jake stood back watching and smiling. He was definitely glad to have you close and it was true you did make him happy. He was a little protective when the guys tried to hit on you and he was there ready to step in but you handled and they quickly backed down. Everyone quickly became protective of you especially when it came to strangers coming up to you and trying to get with you and let Jake back down on his protectiveness some but not all the way. Jake was just happy to have his true friend that he had known for years back in his life and he was not letting go this time.

Exploring the Devildom - Brothers and Datebables
This comes from a request I received: I am weak, have little stamina and have little to no experience exploring or hiking. That said, I would want to see all the best parts of the devildom! I love animals big and small, land or sea. I may not swim the best but seeing the colorful creatures fill me with joy. Also I bet there are dragons and I want one! *Begging sheep eyes* Buy me dragon, plz. Could I request a weak MC who wants to do more exploring and sightseeing but can't quite keep up with the brothers (and maybe date-ables)?
Lucifer
Lucifer doesn’t have much time for exploring the Devildom; there are other far more important matters to tend to. He normally passes that kind of interaction off to his brothers but you manage to catch his attention with your questions, especially once he hears you asking about dragons. Of course the Devildom has dragons and no, you are absolutely not going near any of them. Do you really think he’s going to let you near dragons? Stop those puppy dog eyes this instant. There’s no chance in Hell -
Okay, so maybe he’s going to show you some dragons because it’s a good learning experience or something, not because you kept begging him. Dragons are pretty rare, even in the Devildom, but they do have conservation areas where they keep some of the most endangered species of dragons to help promote population regrowth. After enough begging, he’ll take you out there one day. The area is huge (it has to be because dragons are very big, at the least species you’re getting to see) and it takes an awful lot of walking around. Luckily, Lucifer has enough tact to not comment on your obvious weariness and you get plenty of times for breaks when you stop to admire the dragons. You can’t get very close to them for your own safety, no matter how much you plead with Lucifer, but he does manage to get you a tour of the breeding facilities where all the eggs are being cared for. You get to touch several of them and even get the honor of taking home a beautiful pearlescent piece of shell that’s several inches long and, in the bright light, you can see through it almost like a piece of glass. It’s a perfect excursion and Lucifer knows he’s going to have to bring you back sometime again.
Mammon
If you want Mammon to show you around the Devildom, he would be happiest driving you around along the coast in one of his custom cars and going to a bar or party along the beach. That’s about as outdoorsy as he likes to get but if you’re the one asking him to explore more, he’ll do it. If Mammon’s recent story is to be believed, he’s not someone who is great with outdoorsy adventures. He could barely handle carrying your picnic supplies but he doesn’t let his lack of athleticism stop him. He’s also one of the brothers least likely to care about your inability to handle lots of physical activity. He needs the breaks almost as much as you do and you too can complain to each other about the effort while you struggle to catch your breath.
Mammon’s going to introduce you to all the aviary aspects of the Devildom when you’re out together. His familiars are crows after all; he’s got an in with the birds and is always able to get them to gather around you guys, like little groupies. Crows, ravens, nightingales, eagles, hummingbirds, cardinals, etc. You’ve seen birds of every kind of color and pattern, heard the most beautiful songs and trills and coos, fed them seeds and meats that you bring on your trips even when the bags are already too heavy to be comfortable. You’ve even seen a phoenix once, high up in the sky during one of your picnics by the lake, and the tendrils of gold and red trailing after it are one of the most mesmerizing things you’ve ever seen - well worth the exhaustion of the hike.
Levi
Getting Levi to leave the house is no easy task. He would much prefer to be home in his own room than actually going out and exploring the Devildom. The only way to really get him out of there is by begging him to take you to the beach to meet Lotan. Levi can’t refuse a beach trip, especially when you’re ready to coo over his pet. Normally Levi would be nervous about taking you anywhere, worried about it being a date or if you’re going to be bored or disappointed and is he really the best demon to be showing you anything but this is sort of his second home and he feels much more confident. He’s happy to lead you right into the water to get an up close view of Lotan and all of the different oceanic creatures the Devildom offer.
Swimming may be a little difficult in the ocean but with Levi there to keep you afloat, you don’t need to worry. Levi is a strong swimmer and is happy (and terrified) to be carrying you through the water and helping you float so you don’t spend too much energy that you don’t have. He’s going to keep you safe from everything and he knows all of the secrets of the ocean. He can name all of the coral and plants, the stones, the fish. He’s almost as animated as he gets when he speaks about his anime. By the time you’re done for the day, you know more about the marine life here than you do at home.
Satan
In true Satan fashion, he shows you all around the bookstores, galleries, and museums that the Devildom has to offer. He complains that it doesn’t have nearly as many as it should and he has quite the critical eye for the things that are displayed. Half the time, he has more extensive knowledge of the exhibits than the signs convey and he ends up explaining each piece to you. The best part about this is that he’s happy to settle you onto any nearby seat (even if he has to scare people off of it) and spend time talking about what you’ve seen so that you have time to rest because he knows just how much walking goes into this.
He makes sure to take you the natural history museum too because he knows how much you love animals and nature. He points out the animals that are similar to the ones found on Earth and explains what makes them different, and he is happy to do any interactive exhibits that you may life, even if he normally wouldn’t. He for sure buys you some sort of cat or book based item from the gift shop to commemorate your time together.
Asmo
Asmo would love to show you around the Devildom! However, like Mammon, he’s not a huge fan of the outdoors and he’s certainly not gallivanting around with animals aside from the stray photoshoot. He’ll end up showing you the downtown city center. Of course his favorite places tend to be stores where he drags you around to shop and, when you get tired, he’ll seat you in a dressing room where you can watch him try on different outfits and give your opinions.
Asmo is also going to take you to the “coolest” places at the time whether it’s a club, arcade, cafe, exhibition, etc. He wants you to experience all of the most popular things the Devildom has to offer and, with all of his fans regularly following you guys around, someone is always around to carry your things or fetch you table/bench as needed so you never have to worry about being forced to stand for too long.
Beel
Beel is going to show you around all of the best restaurants, cafes, and dessert shops around the Devildom has to offer. He is allowed into any establishment he likes because he buys them out entirely so he’s definitely a VIP customer. This means you never have to stand around waiting for a table, you’re sat down almost immediately. These outings are very easy on you, though the food may not always sit very well considering most of it is made out of ingredients that you don’t have on Earth.
Beel will happily give you piggy back ride around town too as you travel from restaurant to restaurant. If you try to complain about burdening him, he’ll brush you off and mention how good it is for him to walk and lift after eating all of that food. You’re just helping him build up his appetite so he can truly appreciate the next place you guys stop at. Honestly, you’re the one doing him a favor.
Belphie
Belphie’s favorite thing to show you is the stars. Yes, the observatory at the House of Lamentation is great for an indoor view for when it’s cold or rainy or you’re just not interested in going outside. However, there are much better views to be had if you take the time to go find them, especially in the open fields far away from the city heart of the Devildom. Belphie bribes Beel into driving you guys out to the fields, the car packed with snacks and blankets and pillows while you’re bundled up in your comfiest pajamas. You guys set up your little area and lay there for hours, watching the sky change.
This far from the lights, you’re able to see so much more. You can see so many stars and constellations, the ones Belphie’s told you about before and new ones, as well as glimpses of other planets and galaxies. He tells you all sorts of stories, myths and legends of the Devildom, and even opens up about how it compares to the starry views in the celestial realm. It’s mesmerizing in the deep darkness of the Devildom and Belphie holds your hand to make sure it’s not too overwhelming. You may end up falling asleep out there with him and it’s some of the best sleep you’ve ever had.
Diavolo
Diavolo has very little free time to explore and enjoy the Devildom, which is such a shame considering it’s the place he’s set to rule. Having you on the exchange program here, asking to learn more about this place and see more of what it has to offer, creates the perfect excuse for Diavolo to get out of the palace. The place Diavolo is going to bring you is the botanical gardens. Now, they’re not quite as pristine and impressive as the gardens at the palace (Barbatos does a wonderful job there) but there is more diversity and it all feels more organic. It gives you both the chance to learn more about the beauties and dangers of this realm, and it’s an incredibly romantic and sweet backdrop for your time together.
The gardens are huge, sprawling over many acres, and Diavolo is aware of your limitations. With that in mind, he happily hires a little carriage to take you both around the area and you can get out of it for a closer look whenever the urge strikes you. This means you’re able to see so much more than you normally would and you get to make friends with the lovely horses that pull your carriage, offering them some of the safe vegetation as a reward for their hard work. Diavolo takes note of your favorite flowers and plants and when he gets back to the castle, he instructs Barbatos to create your own personal little garden you can visit whenever you like.
Barbatos
Barbatos likes to take you with him while he runs his errands. He has so little free time that, unfortunately, he can’t take you out on a date more often than not but he still wants to spend time together. He compromises by bringing you with him when he can. One of his favorite places to take you is on his forest forage trips. He regularly goes out to collect fresh ingredients for both his teas and his treats. He finds so many leaves, berries, and other vegetation during your trips that you find yourself learning so much. You’ve never even seen half of these ingredients before and Barbatos delights in teaching you all about them: where they came from, how they grow, how to identity them, what they’re used for. He gives you your own basket to carry as well (it’s very light, mind you, even when it’s full and you assume there has to be some kind of enchantment on it).
Like with everything else, Barbatos always seem to know when you need to rest without you even saying anything. He walks so slowly through the forest with you that you know he probably does these trips in half the time or less when he’s alone and he is quick to point out pretty views you may want to take in, urging you to take a seat on a nearby log or rock for a while and enjoy. Additionally, Barbatos always packs a little picnic for you both as well so you can make a day of it. He loves to set you up in the middle of a clearing where you can lay on the soft blanket and eat your snacks and rehydrate. Occasionally he’ll wander off to gather some more ingredients while you rest and when you’re all recovered, he walks you back to the palace where he has a car waiting to bring you back to the House of Lamentation.
Solomon
Solomon is like your own personal tour guide of the Devildom, if your tour guide took you to illegal places and was paid under the table that is. There’s nothing Solomon loves more than taking little “field trips” with you around the Devildom, often citing how it relates to something you’re studying in your classes at RAD or how it will help him with teaching you magic. He takes you to all sorts of places that you’re almost definitely not supposed to be in: old caverns, castle ruins from a long gone dynasty, decrepit crypts with old rulers held inside, etc. Every place he takes you has a story that he loves to tell you. As a man who has experienced most of history, Solomon finds great job in telling his first hand accounts of things to you (though sometimes you’re entirely sure how much is fact and how much is fiction).
This means a lot of travel and while Solomon, the immortal and impervious bastard, may be able to get around easily but you can’t. Solomon knows that though and he makes these excursions as accessible as possible. That means portals when you’re traveling great distances so you don’t have to walk too much or things as simple as summoning a bench for you to rest on when you’re tired. He also absolutely loves to use his magic to float you along; he never warns you either, one second you’re slowly trudging along and the next thing you know you’re hovering 3 feet off the ground, carried forward by an invisible wind. It’s amazing and the fun of it helps make up for any negative feelings you may associate with needing the extra help.
Simeon
Simeon has to admit that he hasn’t seen as much of the Devildom as he should have considering how long he’s been here. He’s been to the stores and festivals, and he’s been pretty content keeping to the RAD campus outside of that. When he hears that you want to learn more about the Devildom, especially the wildlife, he sees it as a perfect opportunity to take you to the zoo. You guys decide to take Luke as well, correctly assuming that he would be thrilled to ‘oh’ and ‘ah’ over all of the animals.
The zoo is quite large and, to make things easier for you, Simeon is happy to get you a scooter or wheelchair and push you around. Honestly, he loves the idea of these devices and Luke will absolutely sit on your lap or hang onto the back of handle bars so he can ride around with you. If you do walk, he’s willing to sit down at the exhibits whenever you need and sometimes will suggest it even before you can bring it up. (He’s talked to Luke privately beforehand about not running off and making you guys chase him so there’s worries there) He also brings you to every animal show, both because it’s amazing to see what these animals can be trained to do but also so that you get enough rest throughout the day. You guys read the signs and histories posted outside each exhibit and turns into quite the educational day. You three end up buying plushies of your favorite animals to take home as a souvenir.

Calling You Mine

It has been too long since you've last been to the Hard Deck. Every memory you've ever had of this place went flashing across your eyes. Smiling to yourself at all the laughs and kisses you shared here.
Bradley Bradshaw was the love of your life and you loved him with every once of your being. The two of you grew up together, and had talk of plans to spend the rest of your lives with one another. The two of you even at one point talked about have little ones running around.
Every pilot always joked with you guys saying how head over heels you guys were. Your dad absolutely loved him and his mom loved you. It was like the two of you were made for each other. Nothing could break the two of you apart.
Frowning once images of him started showing up remembering this was the last place you saw him. This was where you had your big fight that ended your relationship with him. Not even remembering what the fight exactly was about.
It was the worst night of your life when you lost the love of your life. Constantly looking at your phone praying he was going to call or text you but it never happened. The pain was too much you moved to a completely different state.
Seeing him tonight would bring back all those horrible memories and thoughts you had or yourself. Blaming yourself every day for why he left you.
All you know is that you were hoping he wouldn't be here to remind you of everything. Walking inside the bar already seeing that it was filled with people. Almost every person here was in uniform wondering if they were going to be joining in the mission as well.
Seeing the familiar khaki uniforms over by the pool table. Instantly recognizing some of your fellow pilots Coyote, Fanboy, Phoenix, Bob, Payback and Hangman. If they were here surely they all got the same letter as you. They were all the best and they wanted the best.
Your eyes doing a quick glance around seeing if you could see that familiar mustache anywhere. Wherever he was you were surely going to avoid as along as possible. Which was probably going to be damn near impossible.
"He isn't here yet." Pennys voice called out when she noticed your figure standing by the bar looking around.
"Who?" Asking playing dumb damn well knowing she knew exactly.
"Please Y/N I know exactly who it is you're looking for." She scoffed as she grabbed you your drink placing it in front of you. "He usually comes in later than everybody else."
"Does he always come in?" You already knew the answer to that you still just wanted her to say it.
"All the time." She smiled at you and you couldn't help but smile back knowing he's always loved this place when you two were going out.
"It's good to have you back in here." She said as she cleaned out some dirty glasses. "Brings back good old memories."
Nodding your head as you took a sip of your drink avoiding the subject looking back over to your group of friends. Penny knew everything about the two of you, and how close you were with one another. You were like a daughter to her and she hated when he broke up with you how crumbled it left you.
"Do you think he'll be angry if he sees me?" Asking her as she stepped in front of you now placing a rag on her shoulder.
"No I don't think he will." She shook her head as she thought about it.
"Do you think he'll talk to me?" It was a question you didn't want answered but needed to hear something hopeful.
"Probably." Not liking that word or the way she said it. "Which means if he doesn't talk to you you'll just have to talk to him."
"I don't know if I can Penny." Shaking your head as you looked down at your hands on the bar top. "He hates me I know he does."
"Bradley does not hate you." Her voice stern as she gave you a certain look.
"I guess we'll see huh." Grabbing your drink and heading over to your friends not giving her a chance to respond.
Penny knew very well about what happened between you two, and always had hope both of you would make amends. She truly believed the two of you were perfect together, and always told you her feelings.
When you two broke up everyone left it alone, and knew it was a sensitive subject. Everything around you reminded you of him, and surely he was feeling the same. Laying in bed just staring at the ceiling wondering if he would ever speak to you again.
"Hey." A chorus of greetings rang out when they saw you approaching their table.
"Hi guys." Greeting back as you stood by Phoenix giving her a tight hug she was your best friend out of everyone.
"Well we can all go home everyone Y/C/S is here." Patting you on the back as you rolled your eyes at her.
"I'm here." Hangman pointing to himself which was responded with eye rolls.
"Oh shut up Hangman." Phoenix snorted out with a shake of her head. "Need remind you she graduated top of the class."
"Yeah and kicked your ass during training every time." Smirking when you saw it was getting to him as his jaw clenched.
"Not every time." Mumbling to himself as he picked up his pool stick lining up his shot.
"Yeah they only brought you here to make us all feel better." Snapping back making everyone break out into ahh's as they smacked him on the back.
"Ouch sweetheart you're as ruthless with that mouth as you are in the sky." Putting a hand over his chest trying to act like he was wounded.
"Yeah I agree I don't want you to kick my ass in the sky." Coyote joked reminding you the last time you flew together you blew him out of the sky with your skills. "Again."
"Not my fault you're scared of a girl." Shoving his shoulder everyone laughing.
"I'm not scared of a girl." Coyote pushed you back. "I'm scared of you."
"Yeah I don't ever want to face off with you in the sky." Fanboy agreed with Coyote looking over at him. "No offense."
"None taken." Crossing your arms over your stomach as you watched the boys playing pool.
"She doesn't scare me." Recognizing that voice instantly your entire body froze afraid to even turn around.
"Bradshaw as I live and breathe." Hangman smirked at the man getting his attention off you who you still couldn't turn around to face.
"Hangman." His voice stoic as he leaned up against a stool behind him not even acknowledging you. "You look...good."
"Oh I'm good Rooster I'm very good." The blonde haired man cockily said as he shot one of the balls into the pocket.
Feeling someone walk right next to you looking up to see Hangman standing there with a huge grin on his face. You knew exactly what he was about to do, and you just closed your eyes and prepared yourself for whatever was about to happen.
"Doesn't our Y/N here look absolutely stunning." Putting an arm around your shoulders as he moved your body to face towards Bradley. "God I wish you were mine."
Looking up timidly at Bradley whose eyes were now glued to yours. You couldn't tell what kind of emotions were going through his mind but you knew he wasn't happy with Hangman hovering over you like that. He was breathing heavily through his nose not trying to get angry since the two of you were broken up.
Hangman always like to flirt with you when everyone found out you and Bradley were going out. It made it his life's goal to mess with you and say things to piss him off. You could tell it was something that Bradley really didn't like, and he was close to punching Hangman in the face sometimes.
"She's all yours." Sneering through his teeth as he glared at you and Hangman who looked a little surprised at his lack of reaction.
Everyone was standing there awkwardly listening to what was going on. They tried to act like they were doing other things but they wanted to hear what was going on.
You gotta admit hearing Bradley's harsh words stung you. A tiny piece of your heart break at his lack of affection and feelings towards you. Turning your head away from him when you felt your throat start to close up, as you tried to keep yourself from getting too upset.
"I'm getting another refill." Mumbling as you moved Hangman's arm off you practically running back up to the bar.
Penny could see your flustered look and without even responding handed you another drink. Your hands gripped the counter as you tried to control your breathing. You didn't realize seeing him and how little he talked to you would upset you that much.
"He hates me Penny." You stated staring off into the distance not wanting to walk back to them. "He hates me."
"Y/N he doesn't hate you." She stood in front of you throwing a rag on her shoulder. "The two of you just need to talk."
"Penny he pretty much handed me over to Hangman." Throwing your hands up as she gave you a yikes look.
"I am sure he didn't mean it." She was trying her best to make you feel better but it wasn't helping anything.
"Think I should just go home." Feeling defeated as you looked over to Phoenix and Bradley talking.
"You can't go home Y/N." Her voice stern as she spoke not liking your answer. "Just talk to him."
"He won't listen to me." You argued back making her groan.
"You'll never know unless you try." Nodding behind you as you turned around to see Bradley walking straight to you. "Now might be your chance."
Turning back around to face her giving her a help me look but she just shrugged and continued her job. Standing there like a statue as you felt someone now standing next to you already knowing who it was.
"Y/N." Hearing his low voice calling your name felt good. "Can we talk?"
"Yeah what's up?" Trying to act cool like you had no idea what he wanted to even talk about, and he just scoffed at your reaction.
"Can we talk outside?" He asked again nodding his head towards the back deck where there was nobody.
Also noticing that everyone from your group was now standing there watching the two of you. Phoenix looking at you with a reassuring smile and giving you two thumbs up. Hangman looked bored by what was going on and continued to play pool.
"I guess." Sighing as you led the way through the many patrons and headed to the back deck was the noise already went down a few notches.
Wrapping your arms around yourself as the cold beach breeze smacked against your skin. Rocking back and forth on your feet as you avoided eye contact with him. As much as you wanted to look into his eyes if he was going to give a cold shoulder than so we're you.
It's been so long since you and Bradley have spoken and neither of you knew what to say to the other. It was like both of you had so much to say but you just couldn't find the right words to say it.
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry." He spoke first and you stopped moving as you looked up at him.
"For what?" Asking him with curiosity to what exactly he was talking about.
"For earlier." Clicking your tongue realizing it wasn't about what actually happened between you two. "I shouldn't have said that."
"No it's fine I'm already over it." Which was a complete lie and he knew that.
"You know I can tell when your lying Y/N." He had a tone of amusement behind his voice as he tried not to smile. "You've never been able to fool me."
"Is that all you wanted to talk about?" Not bothering to respond to what he said watching as his smiled faded.
"No it's not." Shaking his head as he stepped a little closer to you. "I also wanted to apologize for how I ended things."
"The way I ended things with you was completely wrong and I had no right to do that without talking to you first." You could have sworn you were holding your breath the whole time.
"You're right you were a dick to me." Finding your voice as you snapped back at him. "Not even explain to me why you broke up with me."
"I'm sorry believe me I am I wish I could go back and do things all over again." Slowly leaning forward to press his forehead against yours.
Both of you standing there without exchanging any words and enjoying being with each other again. Smiling to yourself feeling like you finally got your Bradley back. It felt so good to have him touching you and holding you like this again. Not wanting him to let go of you in fear this was all a dream.
It was like you back in time before you broke up remembering how he would always just hold you like this. Sometimes he would even start dancing around the parking lot making you laugh as other stared at you like you two were crazy.
"Why did you break up with me?" You couldn't help but ask wanting to know his exact reason.
"I was just angry and I thought you were acting out on purpose." Now you were even more confused as to what he was talking about.
"What are you talking about?" Questions him as you scrunched your face up. "Whadda ya mean how I was acting out?"
"That night Hangman was all over you and you were flirting back and it really pissed me off." You we're about to respond when he put his hands up to let him finish. "I confronted Hangman to leave you alone."
"That's when he said you two dated before and were sleeping together." You swear your jaw dropped down to the floor in shock by what he was telling you and you didn't know whether to he disgusted or pissed off,
"Excuse me?" Screaming at Bradley as he looked at you nervously judging by your reaction it wasn't true. "That is further from the truth."
"I know I know I wasn't thinking clearly." Putting his hands up when he watched you walking back and forth trying to control your anger. "I should have talked to you but I just assumed it was true."
"Your damn right you should have talked to me first." Shaking your head at him as you scoffed. "I would have never ever dated Hangman let alone sleep with him."
"Seeing him touch you like that tonight brought back memories and I just got angry." He was sounding angry himself and beating himself up for letting you go like that.
"Wait a minute." You stopped him from talking as you thought back to what he just told you. "So Hangman told you specifically that we dated and were sleeping together?"
All Bradley did was nod at you and that was enough to send you sprinting back into Hard Deck looking for that cocky blonde asshole. Looking to see him still standing with everyone laughing and joking which only fueled your anger.
"Hey sweetheart decide to join us again?" Hangman smirked as he started walking towards you Bradley right behind you as you brought your hand back punching him square in the jaw.
"Oh shit." Bradley spoke as everyone in the bar stopped what they were doing to watch everything unfold.
Phoenix looked proud of you and wishes she could have done what you did. Some of the guys felt bad for him but knew it was a long time coming. It was just a matter of time before someone punched him even more so a woman.
Bradley looked at you like a proud father who wished he had been recording it so he could play it back over and over. Hands on his hips as he stood right behind you in case you wanted to keep going. The last thing he wanted was for the admiral to find out and kick you off this mission.
"You son of a bitch." Screaming at him as he grabbed his jaw moving it to make sure it wasn't broken. "You told Bradley we dated and slept together?"
"What?" Phoenix exclaimed as she looked at the three of you shocked and wanting answers.
"Didn't think he would actually believe it." Shrugging his shoulders as you started moving forward only to be grabbed by Bradley.
"Don't you ever say anything like that again or I swear to god I'll kill you." Pointing a finger at him in warning making him put his hands up in defense.
"Yes ma'am." Quickly nodding his head as everyone around him chuckled at how terrified he was of you.
"Let's go." Bradley whispered in your ear rubbing his hands up and down your arms pulling you away.
Walking out with Bradley behind you people cheered you on even Penny. Who lifting up a glass to you with a huge smile on her face making you laugh. It felt so good to do that and you didn't realize how much you wanted to do that until now.
"I gotta admit." Bradley spoke stopping you by grabbing onto your waist turning you to face him as he smirked at you. "That was pretty hot what you did."
"Thanks." Smiling up at him as he stared down at your lips and then back up to your eyes.
"Can I kiss you?" He timidly asked afraid you would say no and walk away.
"I thought you'd never ask." Wrapping your arms around his neck Bradley smiling showing off his teeth as he pulled you flush against him his lips on yours.

Hey, Cowboy
part two
jake seresin x reader ≈ 800 words masterlist
language, suggestive comments, it’s abt the cowboy hat rule
y’all want a pt 2?
—
A few too many beers in your system had made you especially combative that night, and combined with Hangman’s obnoxiously attractive bravado, you were all too ready to get into a fight with the man.
“All you do is make a fool of yourself, Seresin,” you laughed cruelly, snatching the pale tawny hat off of his blond head. “‘Look, I’m Hangman, best of the best with a big ol’ dick! Ain’t got no—’”
“Stop that!” A big hand ripped the hat off of your head, his voice hissing loudly at your mockery. “Don’t do or say shit you don't mean, Raptor.” He searched the room anxiously. You didn’t quite understand why that, of all things, had gotten to him, but you laughed again as you smoothed your hair and took a drink of your beer.
“What? The dick joke too much?”
“No, kid, we’re in fucking Texas. Everyone here knows the rule,” He took a swig from his whiskey glass as he scanned the room, “and I know most everyone here.”
You were entirely out of the loop, but you didn’t need him to know that, so you rolled your eyes as you grabbed your drink and walked to Phoenix, the whole squad save for yourself and Hangman having congregated near the pool tables. The night dragged on and everyone got taxis back to base, but the question of Seresin’s very sudden nervousness still prodded your mind.
Still, you slept through the night, and by the time you woke, it had slipped your mind. The morning after, your head was splitting, so you took some ibuprofen and headed to the gym to make the rest of you hurt. Walking in the door, you immediately spotted Hangman facing the mirrors covering the wall, repping a weight probably too high for the morning after a night like the last.
You paused to admire the veins in his arms and the grunts that he made before snapping out of your trance and heading to your locker to stow your gear. You stepped to the side of the gym furthest from the man to do some dynamic stretches, then put your headphones on and hopped on the treadmill. 30 minutes of running passed before you hopped off, gulping down some water before you treaded heavily towards the upper body machines.
Your music was blasting in your ears so loudly as you worked your traps that you couldn’t hear Trace approach, her light steps not making it past your headphones. When you finished your set with a grunt, you stood up and yelped with surprise, her presence unexpected.
She chuckled at the noise, then scanned you up and down as you walked up to her, taking your headphones off. “You’re walking surprisingly well, Raptor.”
You felt your brows scrunch up as you tilted your head, completely lost. “I wasn’t that drunk.”
“No, but after that stunt you pulled with his hat, I thought Hangman would’ve had you follow through.”
It took you a moment to recall what she meant, but as soon as you did the confusion returned in full force. “No, what the hell does that mean?” You blurted out, throwing your hands up. “First he starts acting like I just accused him of being a Communist then you say you expected me to ‘follow through’?”
Trace’s eyes widen, surprise and glee mixing in equal parts. “You really don’t know the rule?”
You raised your eyebrows expectantly and pursed your lips, gesturing for her to continue.
“‘Wear the hat, ride the cowboy’ rings no bells?”
Your stomach sank, a gasp ripping out of you before you groaned, smacking yourself on the cheeks and dragging your hands down. “Oh, come on.”
“What, like you wouldn’t have done it if you knew?”
You searched the gym for Seresin before you sighed and nodded. “Woulda hoped his reaction had been different, though.”
“Oh my god, (Y/L/N), you cannot be serious. He was practically buzzing afterwards. The whole night he kept looking at you like he expected you to do it again and mean it.”
“No. Bullshit, Trace. You cannot be serious.”
“Why the fuck would I lie?”
“He hates me!” You groan, spinning in a circle.
“He does not. He wants you, Raptor. Do it again tonight. You’ll see.” You looked at her like you hated her, and she laughed with her full belly. “What do you have to lose?”
—
This time, when you set the hat upon your head, Hangman’s eyes widened exponentially and his mouth opened slightly.
“You know what that means, (Y/L/N)?”
“Yessir,” you murmured, waiting for him to move.
“Well then shit, let's get going.”

“Kiss me” “What-”
Summary: What feelings surface when you get jealous?
Pairing: Phoenix x f!reader (no use of y/n)
Word Count: 1.5k
Warnings: Jealousy, suggestive comments/thoughts, minor physical descriptions, no use of y/n, military inaccuracies, and zero, absolutely zero, beta reading
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been a hot day. Much hotter than it had been in anyone’s recent memory. But if they had thought the heat would abide when the sun went down, they were in for a rude awakening.
You leaned against the railing of the Hard Deck, staring off into the distance at the crashing waves further down the beach. You sighed, imagining how nice the cool water would feel against your near-feverish skin. There was no breeze to speak of and you half-heartedly fanned yourself with your hand. A quickly warming glass of Jack and Coke sat near your elbow.
Behind you, the usual sounds of the bar filled the air. Laughter, yells, and even cheering as some poor person unknowingly subjected themselves to buying a round for the entire crowd. You felt your lips twitch as you glanced over your shoulder to see who it was, but your gaze fell on someone else entirely.
You had only stepped out for a moment but in that time, the naval aviators you had become friends with over the past several weeks had shown up. A quick wave from the short brunette made you push away from the railing and step back into the stifling bar.
As you pushed past several nameless servicemen, your heart did a little flip-flop. Natasha Trace, more casually known as “Phoenix” among her fellow pilots, had caught your attention from the first moment you’d met her. Not only was she incredibly beautiful, but she possessed a lightning-quick wit and packed more comebacks than anyone you knew. How could you have avoided falling for her?
And it didn’t help that from the beginning, the two of you had fallen into a routine of effortless flirting that stayed surface level, never leading to anything more than covert glances and a few accidental brushes. But it was enough to quicken your heartbeat and send pleasant tingles all over your body.
“Hey,” Phoenix said, patting the empty seat next to her as you approached. “Saved you the best seat in the house.”
Quickly you sat down, your knees oddly shaky. You only hoped the blush you felt creeping up your neck wasn’t noticeable in the dimming light.
“You look pretty tonight.” Phoenix had to lean closer to be heard over the music and drunken cheering.
You could feel her breath kiss the column of your neck and it was all you could do to sit still. To give your hands something to do, you smoothed the fabric of your sundress. Small yellow flowers stared up at you.
“How come this is the first time I’m seeing you in a dress?” Phoenix asked, her eyes tracing over the thin fabric that fell around your thighs.
You shrugged, trying to act casual but your slightly breathless voice gave you away. “Never had any reason to, I guess. Or anyone to dress up for.”
That, and the Southern California heat was murder.
Phoenix tilted her head slightly, her perfectly styled hair shining in the overhead lights. Her eyes continued to trace over your body and you willed your heart to not beat out of your chest despite its valiant effort to do just that.
Eventually, she spoke and her voice was almost a whisper. “If I had it my way, you would wear dresses all the time. That is when you’re not busy wearing nothing at all.”
A light gasp escaped your lips. Phoenix’s eyes sparkled and she grinned, clearly pleased by your reaction. Her eyes raked down your body again and you could feel the blush returning. The pilot had never said anything so blunt. It caught you off guard.
Thankfully, a quick word from Hangman had Phoenix distracted long enough for your skin to cool and your mind to start working again. At first, you were grateful for the distraction but that quickly turned to annoyance when Hangman enlisted Phoenix’s help in a game of pool against two men you didn’t recognize. By their tan uniforms, you had to assume they were also Navy but you were sure you hadn’t seen them around before.
You let out an impatient sigh and contented yourself by glaring at the back of Hangman’s head. That man had the worst timing.
Your eyes slid to Phoenix who causally leaned against the pool table, her head thrown back, laughing at something one of the strangers had said. A tight knot bunched in your stomach. Tension tightened your limbs as you watched the other girl talk with the strangers.
The game started and jabs were thrown but you couldn’t hear them over the den. Phoenix stood off to the side to let Hangman shoot. One of the strangers sidled up to her and struck up a conversation. The knot tightened. The slow seep of resentment crept into your bones, making you irritated.
Just as Phoenix laughed at something the man said, something inside you snapped. Sure, nothing ever happened between the two of you, but that didn’t mean that you didn’t want something to happen. And if Hangman hadn’t interrupted earlier, it might have. Now this strange man was getting all of Phoenix’s attention.
It should have been you.
Annoyed at yourself for feeling this way and letting it get to you in the first place, you stood and quickly walked back outside.
The sun had fully set, the last hints of color fading from the sky. A slight breeze had picked up, relieving an otherwise unbearable evening. In the distance, the sound of waves crashing against the sand reached your ears.
You took a deep breath of the salty air and closed your eyes. You tried to calm your mind and sort out your feelings with no luck.
It was undeniable. You had fallen for Phoenix at some point but you just couldn’t pinpoint when. Sometime between the stolen glances, the back-and-forth chatter, and the laughter. The pilot had wormed her way into your heart and was now breaking it, all without her knowing.
You risked a glance over your shoulder to see if Phoenix was still with the stranger, but you couldn’t find either of them. They must have left. You probably should too, because you felt weirdly hollow inside.
You had just turned to walk back to your car when someone spoke.
“There you are.”
Phoenix materialized at your side and it was all you could do not to jump. As it was, you did take a couple of steps back.
The easy grin on her face faltered and she reached out to wipe a tear from your cheek. You hadn’t noticed it had fallen.
“Is everything ok?” She asked, worry knitting her eyebrows together.
You nodded, not quite trusting your voice.
“Did something happen?” Concern was evident in her voice.
“No,” you whispered, barely finding your voice. “I’m just tired. I think I should head home.”
“If this is about that guy,” Phoenix said, thrusting her thumb back at the pool tables. “He’s just a friend from basic I hadn’t seen in a while. There’s nothing going on between us.”
“It’s not that.”
Phoenix took a step forward. You barely registered that she was now in your space.
“You’re a terrible liar,” she said, trying to meet your eyes but you were gazing off into the gathering darkness beyond the railing.
You heard Phoenix blow out a long breath. Her fingers drummed faintly against the material of her pants.
“Truth is, I like you a lot. And I’ve wanted to tell you for some time now, but I didn’t know how to. Plus, I was scared you wouldn’t feel the same way about me.”
In disbelief, you met Phoenix’s eyes. A shy smile graced her lips.
It wasn’t one-sided after all?
“Was that too much?” She asked, her smile slipping slightly. “I just thought-”
“Kiss me.”
“What-”
“Kiss me,” you repeated, your eyes never leaving hers.
Slowly, Phoenix brought her hands up to cradle your face. You nearly sighed feeling the light touch of her fingers. With one final step, she brought herself into your orbit completely. Her lips brushed yours ever so slightly and you could taste a hint of beer on them.
You settled your shaking hands on her waist and deepened the kiss. Glossed lips met chapped in a cautious dance of discovery. Somehow it was everything you’d imagined and more. Phoenix kissed like she flew, confident with a hint of recklessness.
Her hands threaded into your hair, pulling you closer. The skin where her fingers brushed, burned and you couldn’t help imagining what it would feel like to have her hands on other parts of your body. You shivered at the thought.
Eventually, the two of you pulled away to catch a breath. It was all you could do not to whine at the loss of her lips. You rested your foreheads against one another, panting slightly.
“That was-”
“Yeah,” Phoenix laughed breathlessly.
“Do it again.”
She eagerly complied and it was a long time before either of you went back into the bar to join your friends.
Hey! Could I request a Hangman x Reader, where she is childhood best friends with hangman (they have feelings for each other) and also part of the dagger squad and she finds out her bf was cheating on her so her and Phenix (the readers bestie) get drunk and are on the bar singing Before He Cheats and the dagger squad and jake just think they are having fun and bob is like ‘oh no they actually did that to his car’? And Jake is just kinda proud and then they end up getting together?? Angst with Fluff? Sorry it is a long request!
this request actually made me lol - I am partial to a good Before He Cheats moment (I actually just a few days ago had my own moment in a bar with this song however it wasn't nearly as cool it was just drunk screaming at my friends who were not as invested in the song as I wanted them to be) I hope I did this request justice for you nonnie!!!
add yourself to my taglist
The air in the bar was balmy and doing nothing to help with the flush settling over your skin as alcohol coursed through your veins. As you sat off to the side nursing your beer you couldn’t help but let your mind wander and drift over the events of the past few hours… There’s no shock quite like walking in on your boyfriend and his assistant in your own bed but you weren’t shocked, you were actually kind of relieved... but the relief only lasted for a few moments before anger took over and soon you were calling Phoenix and doing something the two of you would probably have to take to your graves. Sitting here in the bar watching your friends and giving them reassuring smiles every time they fretted over you brought that feeling of calmness back, the feeling that you had dodged a bullet and been given a shiny get out of jail free card you’d honestly been hoping and praying for.
You didn’t want Thomas, he was merely a stopgap… someone to keep the other side of your bed warm and distract you from the crushing weight of affection you held for your best friend. The best friend you’d known since diapers, who grew up with you and talked you into following the same career path, the best friend who flirted with you endlessly but never let it go any further… the best friend who was sliding up to you and wrapping an arm around your waist as you sat perched on a bar stool near the pool table.
“How are you feeling, angel?” he asked, looking down at you like you were the only person in this bar and as he started absentmindedly drawing patterns into the exposed skin of your hip you really wished he would keep his hands to himself and take those stupid green eyes and intoxicating cologne to the other side of the bar. He had his own ideas about Thomas… ideas that consisted of thinking he shouldn’t exist, and he surely shouldn’t exist within a ten mile radius of you. He simply wasn’t good enough and he wasn’t alone in that notion though his opinion was certainly the strongest… however, it didn’t really matter who it was, no one was good enough for you as far as he was concerned.
“I’m good, Jake,” you responded just as Rooster approached and shoved a shot of whiskey into your hand.
“Come on, drink up,” he ordered, raising his own to cheers with you.
“This is called peer pressure, Roo, and Nancy Reagan taught me better,” you protested and chuckled as he shot you a glare.
“Shut up and drink,” he said and you sighed, clinking your glass to his and throwing it back. It burned your throat and you immediately felt the warmth radiate throughout your chest as Jake reached out to shove Rooster’s shoulder.
“Stop trying to get her drunk, man,” he sighed, “I’m going to go get you water,” he said and you wrapped your hand around his, keeping him in place.
“I’m fine, Jake. We’re not five years old on the playground anymore, you don’t have to take care of me.”
“I’m always going to take care of you.” he responded in the way he always did that told you that was that, no further discussion. “Don’t let Chicken brainwash you into thinking this is how you handle a breakup.”
“It is how you handle a breakup. Get so drunk you forget the pain, puke it all out tomorrow and then go about your life,” Rooster replied as if he was giving life altering advice. Jake shoved him away again, not stopping until he took the hint and busied himself elsewhere before returning his attention solely to you.
“Are you sure you’re good? You’re eerily calm considering what happened…” he said, and he wasn’t wrong. You’d strolled into the bar hand-in-hand with Phoenix and dropped the news of your cheating boyfriend like it was the weather report as you ordered from Penny… who tried to give it to you on the house before your glare had her ringing it up full price.
“I mean… was it an asshole move? Sure, but I’m fine, and he got what he deserved,” you said with a shrug, taking another sip of your beer.
“What does that mean?” he asked and you decided to play up how drunk you were, looking back to him with blank eyes.
“What does what mean?” you responded and he just chuckled, plucking the drink from your hands.
“Okay, you’re cut off for the moment.” he said, setting the drink at a nearby table. He wrapped an arm around you again and you leaned into him, enjoying the comfort as your eyes fluttered closed but they were open again in an instant and you were twisting in his grasp trying to lock eyes with Phoenix as the sound of Carrie Underwood filled the bar.
“Did you do this?” you called out to her, quickly jumping from your seat and meeting her halfway as she shook her head no and the two of you fell into each other in a fit of hysterics.
“I thought you did!” she said and you shook your head as she took your hands and started dancing and singing along… well, the best the two of you could around your laughter. Jake watched as Phoenix hoisted you onto the bar and clambered up after you and just as Penny turned around to yell at you he shot her a pleading look.
“Let them have it,” he said and Penny weighed her options before conceding, looking up at you making a dance floor out of her bar and deciding to let it go… you and Phoenix needed to let loose more often and if it meant disinfecting her bar the second you got down then so be it.
“I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights,” you shouted at each other as you danced and Jake watched in admiration, wondering how the hell you managed to be so carefree in the face of something that would cripple most people.
“Well, at least she’s letting off some steam somehow,” he commented to the rest of the group who had gathered to watch their best friends.
Bob chuckled, “she’s already done plenty of that tonight.” he said and Jake whipped his head around to look at the wizzo.
“What does that mean?” Between this and your cryptic statement earlier he was now thoroughly convinced you’d done something but he didn’t know what and he hated feeling out of the loop when it came to your life.
“Oh, uh…” Bob stammered.
“Bob.”
“Uh, Phoenix may or may not have let me know they got up to some extracurriculars before they came here, potentially inspired by this song…” he answered and Jake looked back at you in awe, laughing as he imagined it and chest swelling with pride. Sure, he was a little jealous it was Phoenix you called to commit a crime with, but you needed her and she needed you. He’d had you his whole life and he might have been everything to you but so was Phoenix, she understood you in ways he couldn’t and if that meant she was your person for vandalism and destruction of property that was fine by him. He lifted his arms to grip your hips as the song ended and supported you as you jumped to the floor, keeping his arms in place as you looked up at him wide eyed and breathless.
“Heard about your pregaming activities,” he said and you smirked.
“Are you gonna lecture me?” you asked and he just shook his head, taking a step forward and pressing you against the bar.
“Nope. It’s a hell of a lot more tame than what I wanted to do to him,” he said and you just nodded. “Is it wrong that the visual of you in these little shorts destroying his car is a turn on?” You suddenly felt acutely aware of how close the two of you were, of the way he was looking down at you like you were responsible for hanging all the stars in the sky, and the way his fingertips were digging into your skin. “Because it is… I cannot imagine anything hotter,” he said, bringing a hand up to cup the side of your face.
“No, it isn’t wrong…” you said softly, losing the capacity to say anything else as his eyes bored into yours. “Question is, what are you going to do about it?” you asked, regaining your footing and he smirked as he pressed against you, pushing you further against the bartop and caging you into place.
“What do you want me to do about it?” he countered, enjoying how easily he was riling you up and that little voice in your head telling you to pull back, to stop this before it went too far, to preserve the friendship was ignored… it was Jake, at this point nothing could break your friendship and you saw a wide open opportunity to make your feelings known.
“I want you to kiss me,” you replied and he obliged instantly, leaning down and capturing you in a kiss that had you dizzy and falling against him. He pulled back and softly smiled as you looked up at him in a daze, fighting every urge to kiss you again and never stop.
“Come on, angel… let’s get you home,” he said just as Rooster appeared with another drink and Jake shoved it back in his direction. “Nuh uh, give it to Phoenix. And you,” he turned his attention back to you, “are not allowed to accept drinks from strange men anymore,” he said and you just giggled.
“Strange men?” Rooster protested but it was ignored.
“Is that so?” you asked, looping your fingers through his as he led you out of the bar. “And why is that?”
“I’m the only one buying your drinks from now on, sweetheart… and I’m the only one taking you home,” he said, and you leaned your head against his arm as you stepped into the cool night air.
“I think I’m good with that…” What you didn’t see was everyone rolling their eyes and slapping twenties into Phoenix’s outstretched hand, but you didn’t care… all you saw was Jake and that’s all that mattered.
Aaaah! Congratulations, Em! 🎉 How about “I can’t get enough of you”, a bathroom sink, and Bob? 😵💫
THIS IS MY FIRST BOB SMUT. Please be kind.
I combined your request, Taylor, with two others! @cruelmissdior @cherrycola27
Written for my Smutsational Smutfest!
He's Usually a Giver
Your boyfriend was a quiet, reserved man. Always kind and courteous. Never rude or abrasive. And you loved him for all of these qualities.
But nobody else got to see the side of Bobby that you were treated to in the bedroom.
When he invited you out for drinks with his friends for Phoenix's birthday, you met up with them at the Hard Deck. You knew them pretty well now, but they honestly had no idea that Bob had eaten your pussy for damn near an hour earlier this morning. You could tell by the way they picked on him.
"I'll buy a round," Coyote said, heading to the bar.
"For everyone except Bob," Jake drawled. "He's too pure. Too innocent." You rolled your eyes as your boyfriend blushed.
"He's not that innocent," you muttered, looking up at Bob.
He smiled and bent to kiss your nose. "Be a good girl," he warned in a tone that had you pressing your lips together.
"And what if I'm not?" you asked quietly, kissing the side of his neck.
He simply said, "Then I'll have to take care of you."
You wanted him to. You weren't sure exactly what he had in mind, but you wanted to find out exactly what that meant. So when Bob slipped away to play darts, you took your phone out and sent him one of the nude photos you had been saving for his upcoming deployment. A moment later, he finished throwing his darts to check his phone. You watched him fumble and nearly drop it on the floor before shielding the screen.
Then his eyes found yours, and he looked hungry and possessive, two more things you loved about him. Your phone vibrated.
Bobby: Meet me in the bathroom.
You did as you were told, holding the door open enough that he would know where you were. And then he slipped inside and locked the bolt in one fluid, graceful motion.
"I thought I told you to be good," he whispered, bending to kiss your lips.
You nibbled on him for a beat before said, "I am being good. I just can't get enough of you."
Bob backed you up to the sink counter so that you had to reach back to brace yourself. "You had fun earlier this morning?" he asked, reaching for the hem of your short dress and pulling it up to your waist. His long fingers teased you along your soft skin, circling your belly button.
You moaned. "You licked me until I cried," you gasped. "But you didn't get to cum before you left for work. I'll take care of you now, Bobby."
He kissed you while you unzipped his jeans and pushed them down on his hips. "I bet I could make you scream again. Give you everything you want," he told you in that soft, steady voice that you loved, trying to guide you by your hips and make you face the sink. But you didn't let him.
"No, it's your turn now," you whispered kissing his cheek and knocking his glasses askew before dropping down to kneel in front of him. He was already hard when you pulled down his underwear and palmed him in both hands. "You're so sweet," you whispered, looking up at his handsome face and crooked glasses while you kissed his tip and licked him. "I love you."
Then you took him as far as you could, nearly gagging as he leaned forward a bit until he had his hands braced against the sink vanity behind you. You sucked on him as you eased him out, inch by inch until you were at the tip again.
"You look so pretty like that," he groaned watching you intently. "Don't waste any."
You popped him out of your mouth with a grin. "I never do." Then you let him have it, hollowing your cheeks and grasping him at the base, bobbing your head along at the pace you knew he liked best.
When he came, chanting your name, he filled your mouth up, and you were careful to keep it all inside for him.
"You're so good," he grunted, tipping your head back as you looked up at him with your mouth wide open. You showed the mess off for him before swallowing it all down, and Bob pulled you to your feet.
You kissed him, letting him taste himself on your lips. "Just for you."
Eye Specialists in Arizona: Comprehensive Care for Your Vision Needs
When it comes to eye health, having access to specialized and comprehensive care is crucial. Arizona is home to a range of highly qualified eye specialists who provide expert care for a variety of vision needs. Whether you're seeking routine eye exams or specialized treatment for conditions like cataracts, glaucoma, or macular degeneration, Arizona's top eye care professionals are equipped to meet your needs. This article will guide you through everything you need to know about eye specialists in Arizona, the services we provide, and how we ensure you receive the best care for your eyes.
Types of Eye Specialists in Arizona
Understanding the different types of eye care professionals is essential when seeking treatment. The two main categories are ophthalmologists and optometrists.
Ophthalmologists in Arizona
An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and surgery of eye conditions. These professionals undergo extensive medical training, which includes medical school, internships, and specialized residency programs. They are licensed to perform surgeries, including laser surgeries for conditions like glaucoma and cataract removal.
In Arizona, top ophthalmologists often work in specialized clinics and hospitals, providing care for complex cases. Many have subspecialties in areas such as retina disorders, pediatric ophthalmology, and neuro-ophthalmology. If you are experiencing serious eye conditions that require surgery or advanced diagnostics, an ophthalmologist is the right specialist to consult.
Optometrists in Arizona
An optometrist is not a medical doctor but holds a Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree. Optometrists focus on primary vision care, including eye exams, prescribing corrective lenses, and diagnosing certain eye conditions. Optometrists in Arizona play a vital role in maintaining overall eye health by providing routine care and detecting early signs of serious conditions.
Optometrists are often the first line of defense in identifying conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, dry eye syndrome, and early-stage glaucoma. For patients who do not require surgery, optometrists provide invaluable guidance and treatment options.
Common Eye Conditions Treated by Specialists in Arizona
Eye conditions vary in severity and complexity, but Arizona's eye specialists are well-equipped to handle a broad spectrum of issues. Below are some of the most common eye conditions treated by eye care professionals in the state.
Cataracts
In Arizona, many ophthalmologists specialize in cataract surgery, offering the latest techniques in laser-assisted cataract removal and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. If left untreated, cataracts can lead to vision impairment or blindness, making it essential to consult with a specialist for early diagnosis and treatment.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is another serious condition that can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated. Arizona has many ophthalmologists who specialize in glaucoma management and treatment, including medication, laser therapy, and traditional surgery.
Macular Degeneration
Specialists in Arizona offer cutting-edge treatments, including anti-VEGF injections and photodynamic therapy. Early diagnosis is key to slowing the progression of AMD, and regular eye exams are strongly recommended for those over the age of 60.
Diabetic Retinopathy
For patients with diabetes, maintaining eye health is essential to prevent diabetic retinopathy, a condition caused by damage to the blood vessels in the retina. Arizona has several eye care centers that specialize in the management and treatment of diabetic retinopathy, offering laser treatments and vitrectomy for advanced cases.
Advanced Diagnostic and Treatment Technologies in Arizona
Arizona’s eye specialists utilize some of the most advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies available in the field of ophthalmology. These tools enable specialists to diagnose conditions with greater accuracy and provide more effective treatments.
Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
It is commonly used to diagnose conditions like macular degeneration, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. Many Arizona eye care clinics are equipped with OCT technology, allowing for precise and early diagnosis of various conditions.
Laser Eye Surgery
For patients seeking vision correction without the need for glasses or contact lenses, laser eye surgery is a popular option. Arizona is home to numerous eye clinics that offer LASIK and other laser correction procedures. These surgeries use advanced laser technology to reshape the cornea and improve vision, with most patients experiencing rapid recovery and long-lasting results.
Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)
In cases where cataracts require surgical intervention, ophthalmologists in Arizona often use intraocular lenses (IOLs) to replace the eye’s natural lens. These lenses come in various types, including monofocal, multifocal, and toric IOLs, providing patients with options that best suit their vision needs and lifestyle.
Why Arizona is a Hub for Eye Care
Arizona has become a hub for eye care due to its combination of highly trained specialists, advanced treatment options, and state-of-the-art facilities. The state is home to several prominent eye care centers, including:
• Mayo Clinic Arizona: Known for its comprehensive eye care services, the Mayo Clinic offers cutting-edge treatments for a range of conditions.
• Barnet Dulaney Perkins Eye Center: With locations across Arizona, this center provides specialized treatments, including LASIK, cataract surgery, and glaucoma management.
• Arizona Eye Institute & Cosmetic Laser Center: Combining cosmetic and ophthalmic services, this center offers both functional and aesthetic eye care options.
Choosing the Right Eye Specialist in Arizona
Selecting the right eye specialist depends on your individual needs and the specific condition you are dealing with. For routine care, an optometrist may suffice. However, for more serious conditions requiring surgery or advanced diagnostics, an ophthalmologist is the best choice.
We recommend researching specialists with specific expertise in your condition, as well as reading patient reviews and consulting your primary care physician for recommendations. Arizona’s eye specialists are known for their patient-centered care and commitment to using the latest technologies and treatment methods.
Final Thoughts: Prioritize Your Vision Health
Your eyes are an integral part of your overall health, and taking care of them should be a priority. Arizona's eye specialists provide world-class care for a wide range of vision issues, ensuring that you receive the best possible treatment. From routine eye exams to complex surgeries, these professionals are equipped to help you maintain optimal vision.
If you are experiencing any issues with your vision, do not delay in seeking the expertise of a specialist. Early diagnosis and treatment are often key to preserving your sight.
Signs
request(s): A fic where ur maverick’s daughter and roosters best friend and Jake tries to hit on you but fails? + Can I request something where Jake is dating someone deaf? I don’t see a lot of representation and I feel like there should be more! Thx!
warnings: i'm not deaf, so there will most likely be inaccuracies, but i did take asl in high school and have kept in contact w/ some Deaf classmates
a/n: sign language is in italics, written out in english rather than asl format ---- Bradley waited for Pete to finish with the newest class of Top Gun students, knee bouncing as he sat in one of the empty seats.
"What's got your panties in a bunch?"
Bradley rolled his eyes at his wingman, and Jake narrowed his eyes. "This the same reason why Maverick cancelled training for tomorrow?"
At the mention of his name, the Captain walked into the room, flight suit tied around his waist. "What did I do?"
"Rooster's gonna bounce a hole into the floor, all I asked is if it was the same reason you're letting the new guys off the hook tomorrow?"
Pete nodded, grabbing his eyes. "It is. Come on, kid. We're gonna be late."
Bradley waisted no time, hopping up and following his godfather out of the room.
Jake stared at the two retreating men. "See you tomorrow, I guess!"
Hours later, the go-to drinking hole near base was filing up as usual.
"What's on tap tonight, Penny my dear?" Jake asked, sauntering into The Hard Deck.
The older woman looked up from where she was drying glasses, soft smile on her face. "Same as usual, Jake."
The aviator thought for a moment, before ordering his usual. "Hey, do you know why Rooster was all anxious today? Could barely keep up with the drills."
"I do, yes."
"Why?"
"Oh no, not getting an answer out of me that easily. They'll tell you when they want you to know. Now," Penny nodded over to Javy near the dartboard, "I think you're needed over by the back."
Jake huffed, taking his pint and going over to his best friend. "Hey, you ready to lose?"
The two men played a couple rounds of darts before the rest of the Dagger squad arrived, the group starting their usual game of pool.
"There he is!" Mickey cheered, thankful Bradley had shown up. "Finally, someone who can rival Phoenix at pool."
Bradley snorted, taking the cue from his friend's hand. "How many games you lose, Fanboy?"
"Too many." The shorter aviator frowned, going to the bar to grab another round.
Jake was distracted, eyeing up the woman who had walked into the bar a few moments after his friend. "I'll be right back."
No one seemed to hear him, so he nodded his head and dipped from the group, going to introduce himself to the mystery woman.
"Can I get you a drink?" He asked.
No response, not even a pity smile.
Jake sighed, wracking his mind to figure out if he had seen this woman on base, with another aviator or sailor, anything to explain her lack of response.
"Okay, no drink, anything on the food menu you like?" Jake asked, presuming the woman wasn't into drinking.
Still no response, so he nodded to himself and made the walk of shame back to his friends, who had since noticed his disappearance.
"She give you the cold shoulder?" Rueben asked, laughing at his friend.
Bradley had a smirk on his lips as he brought his beer bottle to his lips. "Nice one, Bagman."
"Like you could do any better, Bradshaw." Jake shot back, finishing off his beer.
"I'm sure I could, but not with her."
"Why?" Mickey asked, always ready for gossip among the aviators.
Bradley was silent for a moment. "That's Mav's daughter, closest thing to a sister I have. So," Bradley set his bottle on the table. "I'd rather go through Coffin Corner again than ask her out."
"Maverick has a daughter? Since when?" Mickey voiced the question everyone but Bradley was thinking.
"Since her mom dumped her at Mav's place when she was three." Bradley's voice lacked emotion. "I'll never forget when he first showed up with her, thought my mom was going to lose her mind right then and there."
Not knowing how to change the topic subtly, Bob was the first one to speak up, asking if anyone wanted to rack the balls for a new game. --- Tying his flight suit around his waist, Jake started walking over to the hangar where he knew Pete would be, hoping to get advice on some improvements for his next module for the Ensigns.
He stopped when he saw the man standing in front of his own plane, hands moving rapidly.
"Oh." Jake mumbled softly, wishing he had been anywhere else, not about to break up what appeared to be an argument.
Pete turned his head when he heard Jake accidentally kick an abandoned wrench. "Hangman?"
"Could I talk to you for a second, Mav? If you have time, no rush." Jake spoke quickly, eyes dancing between the two, noticing the similarities of father and daughter.
"Yeah, yeah, just-" Pete signed something to his daughter, who huffed and stormed away, eyes catching Jake's for a brief moment.
"What's up?" Pete asked, wiping his hands on the rag in his pocket, some oil sticking to his knuckles.
"I was going over the plan that you said we could use for the new guys, and I noticed some stuff was different than what Admiral Kane wants them to know."
Pete stared at the young aviator. "Is there a reason why you came to me rather than just going to ask Kane?"
Not having a good reply, Jake opened his mouth before clamping it shut.
"That was my daughter." Pete explained, nodding to the open hangar doors.
"Yeah, Bradshaw mentioned it the other night. I didn't know you had a daughter."
"There's a lot of things you don't know about me, Hangman." Pete spoke, voice clipped. "Just- for the plans, put in whatever Kane wants to add. That's what I do."
Jake nodded, thanking his superior. "Thanks, Mav." --- You watched as Bradley thanked the barista, taking the two cups from him and walking back over to the table you had claimed when you walked in.
"A coffee for you." Bradley said, setting one cup down on the table, taking a long sip from the other.
Who's the blonde guy you fly with? You asked, wasting no time with small talk. You had known the man across from you for almost your entire life, you knew he was always going to say he was doing fine.
Bradley coughed on the coffee, setting down his cup. Why?
I asked first. Who is he?
"No one you need to concern yourself with." Bradley spoke as he signed, a habit of his. "His callsign's Hangman. He's known for leaving his wingman."
The callsign was familiar to you, your dad having mentioned him after the uranium mission. He's the one who saved you and Dad. Why do you hate him?
"I don't hate him, but I don't particularly like him, either." Bradley took another swig from his drink. "Again, why do you want to know who he is?"
Shrugging, you brought the coffee to your lips. Curiosity.
Bradley knew you well enough to guess where the conversation was heading. "He's going to break your heart, he's not one to settle down."
Doesn't hurt to ask. Will he be at the bar?
"Yes, why?" Bradley asked, not liking where this conversation was going.
You're going to introduce me, I want to know the guy who saved the lives of the two most important people in my life.
"Fine, but not just to him. That'll be too weird. You can meet everyone." Bradley wagered, smiling when you relented to his ask. --- Bradley chewed on his lip as he waited for your Lyft to drop you off outside the bar.
Both he and Pete had offered to drive you over to the bar, but they both had to be on-base all day, and you had spent the day in San Diego, so a ride-share made the most sense.
“Hey, Rooster, why don’t you get a beer, she’ll text you when she’s here.” Pete joined his godson outside.
“I’m good.”
“Bradley.” Pete looked at the younger aviator. “She can handle herself, has been for a while now.”
Growing up, Bradley had been your guardian angel, so-to-speak. He was in the grade above you, and was a force to be feared when the kids at school made fun of you.
“She still like ciders?” Bradley asked, standing from where he was hunched, leaning on the railing.
“Oh yes, first thing she asked for after you dropped us off.”
Bradley laughed, going in to order two hard ciders.
---
You smiled at the driver as you got out of the car, making sure you had your phone and purse before closing the door.
You had texted Bradley that you were in front, but assuming he was with his friends, you didn’t wait for him to greet you.
Pulling the door open, you were met with the smell of stale alcohol and multiple colognes, creating a unique smell you hadn’t realized you missed.
Penny smiled from the bar, nodding her head over to the corner where you noticed Bradley’s distinct Hawaiian shirt.
Sending her a smile, you made your way over, moseying around a few khaki-clad men and women.
Bradley spun around when he felt a tap on his shoulder, face breaking out into a wide smile.
“Hey, you made it!” He greeted you, handing you the hard cider that he had gotten a few minutes ago.
Having noticed the newcomer, the dagger squad all paused their game of pool, wanting to meet you.
“Everyone, this is Mav’s daughter,” Bradley introduced you, before pointing to each member and signing as he spoke.
It’s nice to finally put faces to the names my dad has been praising for a while. You signed, Bradley interpreting for you.
“I thought Rooster was pulling our legs when he said Mav had a kid, honestly.” Mickey said, smiling at you.
Jake had been silent during the introductions, choosing to watch as you reacted to each callsign, eyebrow raising when Bob was mentioned.
He noticed the twinkle in your eye, and how you had a scar poking above your eyebrow. He noticed that you were wearing some cut-off shorts and a loose top, the go-to for the hot San Diego summers.
“-is Hangman, but you already knew that.”
Jake was brought out of his thoughts when he heard his name, smiling at you. “It’s nice to see you again. Hopefully all’s well with your dad?”
Bradley signed Jake’s words, and you snorted.
“He’s just an old man who doesn’t know his head from- no, I’m not going to interpret that. Oh my God.” Bradley groaned. “It was a mistake introducing you to everyone.”
You slapped his shoulder, though you had a smile on your face.
The dagger squad had accepted you with open arms, and Mickey wasted no time telling you the dirt on the rest of the squad, Bradley having even learned a thing or two.
---
Over the following days, Jake had learned more about you from his flights with Bradley. “Can I ask you something personal?”
“If I say no, are you going to ask me anyway?” Bradley asked, squinting as he looked over at his wingman as the two went over the post-flight checklist.
“No.”
The answer stunned Bradley, who was honestly expecting the opposite. “Ask away.”
Jake paused, gnawing on his lip. “Is Y/N seeing anyone?”
Bradley looked up from where he was scribbling the time they finished flying. “Why?”
Shrugging, Jake toyed with the dog tags, a nervous habit he had developed during the uranium mission training. “Curiosity.”
Bradley chuckled at the answer, remembering when you had replied the same the other day when he asked why you wanted to know about Jake.
“No. She’s not seeing anyone.”
Jake smiled, wiping a speck of dirt off his helmet.
“I know it’s hard for you, but try not to do anything stupid. She’s been though enough, getting played doesn’t have to be on that list.”
---
Days later, you were sitting at the cafe you and Bradley often met at, though this time you were nose-deep in potential employers.
A sudden shift on the table made you jump, heart racing. Looking up, you let out a breath when you saw Jake.
“Sorry, sorry!” He said, fist moving in a circle around his chest.
Stunned, you pointed to him and rose an eyebrow. You sign?
Jake blanched, sitting in the seat across from you. “Clearly not enough.”
You laughed, pulling your phone out of your purse and opening the Notes app.
Do you know sign language? You signed sorry.
Jake looked at you as you passed the phone over, eyes falling to the screen.
“I don’t, not enough to hold a conversation.” Jake spoke, thankful Bradley had mentioned that you could get by reading lips, so long as the person didn’t speak too fast or too slow.
“But I’m learning. I’d really like to get to know you, and what better way than learning a new language?”
You smiled, grabbing your phone.
No one has ever done that before. Thank you, Jake. What do you know now?
Jake smiled, rambling off the various words and phrases he had memorized, smile growing as you nodded for encouragement and helped fix the positioning for certain words.
You’ll be a pro in no time, it took Dad weeks to learn this stuff!
Laughing, the two of you spent hours talking, getting to know each other, before you two were nicely kicked out of the cafe so they could close.
“It was nice getting to talk to you, can we do this again?” Jake asked, not wanting the night to end.
I’d love that. You signed, mouthing the words as you did.
The two of you set a night each week to meet up, and before anyone knew it, the two of you were inseparable, finishing each other’s sentences.
POWERS AND ABILITIES:
Fire Manipulation - Due to an internal process, Ash’s body converts all unnecessary energy into heat. She naturally runs a temperature of about 101 Fahrenheit. Her body can withstand extreme temperatures (she’s handled molten glass with her bare hands before) without any issue, although if she gets too cold, her heat output is drastically lowered. Her heat is tied strongly to her emotions, and thus she burns hotter when angry and grows cold when sad. Through “vents” beneath her skin, she secretes a gas that’s undetectable to the human eye or nose, but that is highly flammable upon contact with air. She can open the “vents” at will and channel fire across her body, which does not burn.
She uses this ability in a multitude of ways, but her two favorites are super heating her hammer and creating hot air vortexes to “fly” inside. She can use heat waves to create mirages, and she can create quick walls of heat that deflect things moving below a certain velocity. This does not deflect bullets. It can slow them, but she can still be shot.
Accelerated Metabolic Rate - Ash has a heightened metabolism, which forces her to eat two to three times the amount of food a normal person needs to survive. While she could survive on the amount of food a normal person eats, she would be unable to use the majority of her abilities. In addition, she sleeps half the time a normal person would and heals at a faster rate. It's not instant, and she can still be injured just as easily as a normal person.
On the flip side, these abilities have left Ash rail thin. She is constantly on the edge of collapse at the end of the day, because she never quite eats enough. Her soft face is graced with heavy under-eye shadows from her pushing her already limited required sleeping to the edge, and her refusal to care for herself properly.
Durability - Through training, and helped by her enhanced body, she is faster and stronger than anyone her size should be. She can take bigger punches than people twice her size, but she suffers just as much damage as they would regardless. She’s more durable than the average human, and can fall as much as four stories without sustaining life-threatening damage. She might break her arm, but she’ll get up and walk away. She can heal fractures in a week, and fully broken bones in the span of a month or two, depending on the break. In the case of some breaks, she still requires medical attention, though she has been lucky to not have that level of damage as of yet.
Enhanced Senses - Although it is to a much lesser extent than her fellow metas, Ash has two enhanced senses. She has what equates to tremor-sense of up to twenty meters. She can sense direction and speed, and it's muffled by the addition of wearing boots. She also has what she refers to as "bird vision". She has telescopic vision and can pick people out for as far as four street blocks.
Vibe Checker - While not a thing she can really prove, Ash has what has been jokingly called the "Vibe Checker 9000". Ash is very good with vibes, and can easily tell when people are lying to her or hiding things. She has "clicks" where she can tell when things have fallen into place the way they're meant to.
EQUIPMENT
A large, solid steel hammer in the form of a meat tenderizer with a full-length handle wrapped in black and red tape. the head weighs thirty-four pounds, and on one side is smooth and flat, while the other side is spiked with quarter-inch diamond-shaped studs. It has a red wristband that Phoenix usually keeps wrapped around her wrist. The hammer has a phoenix and flame print carved into the side. She also has a thigh and waist holster for the hammer, for when she’s flying or not fighting. Some other items on her include a police scanner, zip ties, duct tape, and a first aid kit, all neatly contained in the small backpack she carries with her everywhere she goes.
Her vigilante outfit consists of a black and red ceramic mask designed to look like feathers and a crest, and a black leather and Gore-tex jacket with a deep hood. She wears black Gore-tex pants with armored elbow and knee guards, gathered by her mother from the army manufacturer she works for. Underneath this, she wears a suit crafted with materials from her mother by her father, the tailor. It's simple, red and black, and shows at the edge of her sleeves and when she raises her arms. Her suit and boots are made of Gore-tex Crosstech and Kevlar materials and are made to her exact specifications. The suit is full body and covers all but feet, hands, and head. They took a pretty penny to acquire, but Ash takes safety very seriously.
BACKSTORY:
Ash’s head was spinning when she woke. She felt like a train had hit her head on, her body as achy as if she’d fallen off a building. And she had done that before, so she knew what that felt like. There were hushed voices off somewhere in the distance, but she didn’t care about that. She didn’t care about the bone-deep chill that was suppressing her heat either. Instead, she started tossing her head back and forth as she looked for her friend.
Alice wasn’t immediately within sight. That wasn’t necessarily a red flag, although she would look back on it later and realize it had been intentional. She thought nothing of it and assumed the older girl had simply managed to make it without getting injured this time. She let her eyes close for a moment and fell back unconscious.
Memories swirled through her head, interlaced with dreams. Memories of meeting Alice for the first time, and their first patrol together. Dreams of a hand reaching out to her and a scream. Memories of Alice bringing her meals during finals, of them celebrating her seventeenth birthday. Dreams of Alice’s body lying lifeless on the ground barely out of reach. Memories of the man consumed by shadow as he reached out and touched her, sucking the life and heat from her body.
She bolted awake, jolting upright. It hurt her entire body and she groaned. Hushed voices stopped and then hands were on her face and in her hair.
“Ash? Oh my god, Ash, baby, are you okay?” Her mother’s hands pushed her curls back from her face.
“We thought we were going to lose you, darling.” Her father’s hands tucked her hair back and held it there.
Ash coughed and felt her insides practically crack with the cold that was permeating her body. “Mom, Dad… where’s Alice? Is she okay? What happened to me?”
She saw her mother look over her head at her father, the two exchanging a look. Her mother swallowed, and her rough hands cupped Ash’s face. She had a sad smile on her face. “Your wristband’s automatic monitor sent out an SOS when your body temperature dropped to 80 degrees. We came as quickly as we could. You were so cold when we arrived that we thought you were dead. It wasn’t until we brought you home that you started to warm up. We didn’t know if you were going to make it.”
“Mom, where’s Alice? She was with me.” Her voice had a bit of edge to it, and she grabbed her mother’s hands, moving them away so she could look around their basement that had served as her base of operation for the last few years. The second cot had a body in it, and she saw long raven hair. She breathed out, and she reached her hand out to touch Alice’s shoulder.
“Wait, Ash, don’t–”
Her fingers met Alice’s shoulder and cold radiated outward and into her fingertips. A deep cold, a frostbiting cold. A dead cold. She felt her heart stop and she jerked her hand away before reaching back out and shaking the older girl’s shoulder. “Alice? Alice, wake up.”
Her father reached out and took her hand, pulling it back. She struggled against him, trying to reach for the girl as tears filled her eyes. “No, no, Alice, wake up! Alice, please, I know you can hear me, wake up!”
Her parents began to restrain her, and her father eventually slung her over his shoulder and started to carry her up the stairs. Tears fell from Ash’s eyes, warm, but not as warm as they should have been. She pounded weakly against her father’s shoulders. “No, let me go! Why isn’t she waking up? Why isn’t she waking up?”
“Ash… Alice is dead.”
The words froze her and she stopped moving as they left the basement, Alice’s body finally disappearing from view. Her father gently deposited her on the couch and her mother quickly came in to wrap a blanket around her shoulders, curling the edges in under each other to make sure it was secure.
“I’m so sorry, Ash. I’m so sorry. She was already gone by the time we got there. We couldn’t save her.” Her mother gently rubbed her shoulders through the blanket and shot her father a concerned look. “She’s still cold, Jack. What do we do about this?”
“We just wait. There’s nothing else we can do. We don’t even know what they were fighting.”
Ash’s eyes flashed up and she whispered, her voice hoarse, “It was like he was made of shadow. All the lights went out when he came in, and all the warmth disappeared. He was fast, faster than me. He sidestepped me and then reached out and touched me. I felt all the warmth in my body leave me, Mom. I got dizzy and I fell down. I think Alice tried to bend reality and he got to her first.”
Her voice broke when she said her friend’s name. Not her friend, her soul mate, her better half, the truest match for her in the whole world. She was in love with Alice, she loved Alice like the moon. She was the softness to Ash’s angles, the calm to her fury, and the deep night sky to her midday heat. Ash was the sun, and Alice was the moon, perfectly in balance with each other. Her perfect. Other. Half.
Gone now. Gone now, and leaving Ash all alone again.
“Her mother is going to be here soon, Ash. We called Mrs. Shaw.”
“Camilla is coming?” Before the words were even out of her mouth, there was a knock at the door. Ash felt her blood run even colder than it already was. She pushed the blankets aside as her father went to answer the door. Something stuck in her throat and she gasped in softly as the door opened. Camilla Shaw was a tall and regal version of her daughter, the same raven black hair and green eyes as the girl. Right then, those green eyes were sadder than Ash could ever remember them being.
She stepped inside the door, and even at that distance, she heard her softly say, “Where’s Aisling?”
“She’s over on the couch with Abigail. She only just woke up.” Camilla looked up and directly into the sitting room and into Ash’s soul, it seemed. Her eyes weren’t accusatory like Ash had been expecting. No, they were just sad. The woman stepped into the house and slowly walked to the sitting room, and Ash stood, unstable and clutching her stomach. She closed the distance between them.
“Camilla. I’m so sorry. This is all my fault. I should have- I should have–”
The woman entered Ash’s space and wrapped her arms around her shoulders, pulling her close. Ash felt tears hitting her shoulder, and the woman’s soft voice rang out in her ear. “This isn’t your fault, Aisling. Alice knew the risks. And she loved you dearly. She would be so happy you survived. Please don’t blame yourself.”
Ash immediately burst into tears and held the woman bone-crushingly tight, before letting up so she didn’t hurt her. She heard Camilla gasp slightly before sighing. She was still silently crying into Ash’s shoulder while Ash now bawled openly.
They held each other and cried for a while, and then they all went downstairs. Ash’s father and mother help Camilla carry the cot out to her van. Ash stayed in the room. As soon as they were past the doorway, she walked up to it and went to close it. She made eye contact with her father as he rounded the corner on his way out. He nodded sadly to her.
She shut the door and engaged the lock. A long time ago, they had rebuilt their basement, adding panels of industrial radiant heat transferring panels as the walls. They had exchanged the door for something heatproof and made sure it was a perfect seal.
Ash walked to the middle of the room and sat down. Her breathing, which had finally come under control, hitched and caught in her throat. She let it out. A blast of fire erupted out from her, lifting her hair into wild tangles in the air and blowing her clothing away from her. The cotton clothing caught fire, blazing up around her and falling away into ash. She screamed, her throat tearing and tasting of iron. She screamed and she screamed as the room got hotter and hotter. The plates of the room creaked as they started to radiate the heat into the earth, but not fast enough. The temperature of the room burned hotter than Ash had ever burned before as she screamed and cried out her despair.
Alice was gone.
Alice was gone.
Alice was GONE.
Ash screamed until she couldn’t scream anymore. Then she curled up on the floor, her vision blurry. She closed her eyes, and they stayed shut. She felt the last bit of strength in her body leave her, and then there was nothing.
Ash was alone again.
Complications Ch. 11
Bradley ‘Rooster’ Bradshaw x Fem Reader
Looking at Rooster as a work friend turned out to be a lot harder than you thought. You often caught yourself staring, especially during his 200 push-ups. Everything about him was attractive his arms, his laugh, his mustache. That damn mustache. You thought about the way it felt when he kissed your body every time you saw him.
For the rest of the week you did your best to avoid Bradley. You just couldn’t stop your mind from going places that are entirely inappropriate for work friends, so the best plan of action was no contact. The time you spent away from him only made you more excited for Friday night. You would finally get to spend some time getting to know him without the fear of getting in trouble.
You went home after work to shower and dress for your night out. You were feeling nervous about tonight, so you put on your favorite outfit to give you a boost in confidence. You put on the tank top that makes your boobs look amazing and a mini skirt.
You took an Uber to the Hard Deck since you were planning on drinking. You saw Bradley’s car outside when you arrived. Knowing he was already there waiting for you made you even more nervous. You thought of everything that could possibly go wrong and contemplated going back home.
Eventually you hyped yourself up enough to get out, plus the Uber driver got tired of waiting. You walked in with all the confidence you built in the car looking for Bradley. Your confidence quickly turned into panic when you saw a familiar face.
You saw Phoenix. And Bob. And Hangman. In fact, the entire squadron was there. You immediately turn to leave, but stop when you hear someone call your name.
“Captain Y/N,” Nat called out. “Is that you?” You close your eyes wishing you could disappear and slowly turn around with a sheepish smile.
“It’s me,” you say with fake amusement.
“Damn Cap, you’re looking hot as hell. What are you doing here?” Nat compliments and questions.
Both comments make you blush. What are you doing here? Meeting a man you can’t stop thinking about romantically despite agreeing to be friends. You think of a response, “I used to come here with my squad back in the day. Just seeing if anything has changed since then.”
Phoenix smiles at you, “well now you can hang out with your new squad. Let’s play a round of pool.”
“I’m gonna get a drink first, then I’ll join you,” you quickly excuse yourself to the bar.
You take a deep breath and curse yourself for coming in the first place. So far you have seen everyone except the one person you came to see. A drink is exactly what you need right now.
“The usual?” Penny asks.
“Please,” you beg, letting your emotions show.
“Rough week?” Penny asks while grabbing a glass.
“You have no idea,” you say thinking of everything that has happened since you arrived.
“You seemed pretty happy the last time I saw you here,” she says adding, “leaving with Rooster.”
Your eyes dart up to meet hers. “Oh Penny, I messed up big time,” you say before you bury your head in your hands.
“Aw sweetie what happened?” Penny asks placing a hand on your arm to comfort you.
You look up from your hands looking around to see if anyone is near before saying, “I slept with him and I’m his Captain.”
“You need something stronger than beer,” Penny stops what she was doing and grabs two shot glasses.
“I really like him, but I can’t start a relationship with a member of my squad,” you explain as she pours the shots.
“That is a sticky situation. What are you going to do?”
“I don’t know,” you sigh.
“The only advice I can give you is to do what makes you happy,” Penny looks behind you and quickly moves to help another patron.
You are a bit confused by her sudden disappearance until you feel the warmth of someone standing next to you. You glance over and have to crane your neck to meet his eyes. “I’ve been looking for you,” you say while taking him in. He is wearing yet another tight fitting Hawaiian shirt. He has a contagious smile on his face.
“You have? I’ve been looking for you,” Bradley says.
“I found some other friends while I was searching,” you nod towards the pool table surrounded by the squad.
“Yeah,” he looks over as his smile fades. “Sorry about that. They asked about my plans and invited themselves.”
“I don’t mind really,” you lie. “We are just friends after all.”
“Just two friends that work together,” he sounds as though he is trying to convince himself of what he is saying.
You hand him one of the two shots on the bar. “To friends,” you toast.
“To friends,” he cheers and you down your shots. This is going to be a long night.
tsb is on my mind today so im looking through a vid of the concept art and holy shit i forgot how good it is
every version of lafcadio looks so done with my shit. im sorry if ive offended you sir i love you that first one im choosing to accept as what he looked like when he was younger
the owl mask is SO good... full wise old man mode... im not sure what the concept behind that third one is, maybe a piece of glass or a chunk of post-fire rubble? and the middle one is just so fucking angy hes doing the arthur fist
also another instance of concept versions being SO long and spindly. it's a REALLY really fun art style but i am glad they all got a little chunkier, it really helps the readability from afar and the general cartoonishness of the style
concept art reggie is certainly something. his ass can NOT see
this version of clay is killing me who IS this man
oh fuck here he comes
trinity of course serving cunt in any form
her ass also cannot see but for reasons unrelated to outfit choices
godddd we couldve had a willow that kicked ass and took names.... she couldve LOOKED cool in addition to just BEING cool
also sad that she lost the curly hair
i think thats some kind of incense burner shes holding in some of these but for a second i DID think she just had a fucking gun
tequila im so happy with where you ended up you started out as a fucking nerd im sorry
beta grey also Could Not Fucking See and that long skinny version of him haunts me i forgot that existed
also he is in fact labeled "lightfingered locksmith" in this art which made me realize they took off the "ed" because of a character limit. it just wouldn't have fucking fit in the title card.
THERES MY BOY and he is looking BUSTED in that first image holy shit wheres the MEAT wheres the MUSCLE!!!!
that first mask is WILD i kinda love it the second one looks like a silly jack o lantern tho
i like to think lucas gave him a scary spooky mask because hes too nice to actually start shit. gotta max out this sap's intimidation.
love that aurum barely changed aside from mask design. they said first thought best thought and they were right. i love him so damn much
they gave him eye holes out of courtesy, very kind of them
also realizing i'm gonna have to draw this bitch's chair in the near future why did it have to be so intricateeeeee
motherfucker himself. i love the sketches in the corner he's a shitty little bird doing his shitty little jojo poses
glad he got the wing cape back too that is an ESSENTIAL part of the phoenix motif
god ellie is so fucking CUTE
interesting to see how titles changed as well, maybe she and lucas were originally just engaged and not married?
i love how many initial designs were just Long
the portraits are all so gooooood i love all these funny guys :)
Heart Of Glass-Rooster Bradshaw
Chapter Ten
WC: 2,505.
C/W: Angst.
HOG Masterlist!
"It's been an honor flying with you. Each of you represents the best of the best. This is a very specific mission. My choice is a reflection of that and nothing more." Mav spoke looking over all of the pilots.
"Choose your two foxtrot teams." Cyclone sighed.
"Payback and Fanboy." Mav called. Mazy's heart skipped a beat she needed to fly this mission she was starting to break even ground again with her father. Her and Phoenix had worked hard for this.
"Phoenix and Storm." Mav spoke. Storm and Phoenix shared a somber glance at each other. They were close but ever since the day they were training and she had a damn near brush with death they knew they were locked in for life.
"And your wingman." Cyclone spoke, Storm turned and glanced at Rooster before turning back. He also needed to fly this, he had something to prove as well. But if he flew too this was a chance that someone of the three could lose someone or all of them.
"Rooster." Mav looked over and let his head fall back down. Mazy's heart was beating fast she was regretting wanting to fly, she wanted to but she didn't. She couldn't imagine a world without Rooster in it. Or her dad, although their relationship was rocky and bad he was still her dad.
Let alone if Mazy and Phoenix were shot down what Mav or Rooster would do? Surely they'd probably be at each others necks poking blame both ways.
"The rest of you will stand by on the carrier for any reserve role that's required. Dismissed." Warlock spoke.
Mazy jogged over to Rooster and he grabbed her hands.
"No matter what happens," Mazy began.
"Look if I die." Rooster interrupted.
"Don't say that it's not going to happen." Mazy squeezed his hands.
"Mazy i love you but we need to look at logistics." Rooster began to speak.
"No shhhh, Bradley look at me darling," Mazy brought her hands up to his face cradling his jaw, "Nothing is going to happen and we're gonna fly this mission and we're gonna go home. Yeah? I promise when we go home we can be done pushing off our wedding and do it right away."
Mazy rambled.
"I love you," Rooster grabbed her face gently and kissed her, Mazy kissed back pulling him closer to her.
"We gotta go," Phoenix rested her hand on Mazy's shoulder.
"Okay," Mazy nodded and stepped away as the three walked to go get their flight gear.
Everyone was briefed again on the mission after they were released to begin inspection and get ready.
Mazy crawled into the cockpit and looked over at Rooster who was in the fighter jet next to her.
They mouthed an i love you to each other as they were instructed to pull the canopy's down. She glanced at her dad as he glanced at her and she took a deep breathe this was it.
"Dagger one, up and easy on catapult one." Mav spoke into the radio.
"Dagger spare standing by." Hangman replied.
"Dagger four, up and ready." Payback replied.
"Dagger three up and ready," Phoenix spoke into the radio.
"Dagger two, up and ready." Rooster finalized it.
"Strike package ready. Standing by for launch decision. Now." The man came over the radio and this was finally it not tuning back now Mav took off. Mazy sat back making sure everything was right as they awaited sign to take off.
"Dagger three," they called. Mazy's heart lurched. Phoenix sent the plane down the runway then up.
Everyone was silent as they got instruction from the control station. Mazy looked around at the open ocean they were above.
"Here we go, enemy territory up ahead. Feet dry in 60 seconds. Comanche. Dagger one. Picture." Mav called as they approached land.
Mazy closed her eyes for a moment to calm herself down everything was going to be okay. It was going to go as planned she thought to herself over and over again.
"Dagger attack." Mav spoke and they shot the tomahawks to take out the enemy runway.
"Daggers assume attack formation." Mav spoke.
"Two minutes and thirty seconds in three, two, one, mark." Mav called as they entered the land and to begin all that they had been training for.
Mazy was almost soothed by the sound of her fathers voice through these tense times.
"Two mark." Rooster called.
"Three mark." Mazy spoke up.
"Four mark." Payback called. Then it all began the twisting back and forth and everything they'd been anticipating.
"First SAM spotting over head." Mav spoke most everyone shifting their view for a moment to look at the missiles.
"Looks like we're clear on radar Mav." Phoenix called.
"Let's not take it for granted," Mav answered back.
"More SAMs! Three o'clock high!" Rooster called into the radio.
"We got two minutes to target!" Storm checked the radar.
"Copy we're a few seconds behind, Rooster we got to move." Payback spoke anxiously.
"Dagger, Comanchie we're picking up two bandits. Single group two contacts." One of the people from the carrier came in.
"Comachie, what's their heading?" Storm asked looking up to see if she could see the bandits.
"Bulls-eye 090, 50, tacked southwest." She answered.
"They're headed away from us. They don't know we're here." Rooster called.
"The second those tomahawks hit their air base those bandits are gonna move to defend the target. We gotta get their before they do. Increase speed." Mav instructed.
"We got you, Mav don't wait for us." Phoenix sped up. Through the sound of Roosters breathing through the radio Storm could tell he was wound up. She knew he could handle this he needed him to handle this. To not choke and end up dead.
"Sir. Daggers two and four are behind schedule. Time to target one minute 20. Tomahawk impact in three...two...one." People from the head quarters spoke, "Bandits are switching course to defend the target."
"Rooster where are you?" Mav asked.
"Come on Rooster." Storm spoke hoping she could maybe have some help.
"We got to make up time now let's turn and burn." Payback yelled into the radio.
"Heads up Phoenix and Storm." Mav yelled as he flew side ways to avoid a bridge.
"Holy shit," Storm gasped at the sudden change.
"Sir bandits are two minutes from target daggers on one minute from target." Comanchie spoke up.
"Come on, Rooster move it or lose it." Hondo came in on the radios.
"Guys were falling behind we really gotta move." Fanboy added. Storm was getting anxious and nervous she just wanted for this to be done. She just wanted to be back in San Diego with Rooster.
She was trying to get her focus back on the jet, radars, radio, thinking about the laser being on point.
Storms heart raced as they listened to the callings through the radio for Rooster to speed up.
"Okay let's go," Mav spoke as everyone increased speed.
"Thirty seconds to target Storm check your laser." Mav instructed.
"Air to ground check compete laser code verified 1688. Laser is a go!" She answered.
"Phoenix, Storm stand by for pop-up strike." Mav called.
"Dagger three in position," Phoenix answered. Storms heart was beating out of her chest. It was almost time, their lives depended on this.
"Popping in three...two...one." Mav and Phoenix pulled up the G force taking over. Storm focused on her breathing her hand on the joystick for the laser.
"Get me eyes on that target Storm."
"Dagger three. Stand by Mav." Storm focused on getting it in focus.
"Come on Storm, come on Storm." Mav anxiously called.
"Stand by! I've got it! Captured!" Storms heart was beating out of chest. Once the target was hit it was the near impossible G force pull up, if that didn't kill them the dog fighting might. Storm took deep breathes.
"Target acquired! Bombs away!" Mav dropped the missiles on the target. The pair pulling up and Storm tried to focus hard on her breathing her vision going somewhat blurry.
"Dagger two status?" Mav called.
"Almost there. Mav. almost there." Rooster called bringing Storm back a little.
"Fanboy where's my laser?" Rooster asked.
"Rooster there's something wrong with the laser!" Fanboy panicked causing Storm to panic, "Shit! Dead eye! Deadeye! Deadeye!"
"Come on guys we're running out of time!" Rooster yelled, "Nearly there! Nearly there!"
Storm was in and out as they were pulling up still, she needed everything to be fine. As her vision blurred she thought about all the secret kisses she shared with Rooster, all the singing they'd done together, playing the piano together.
She then thought about Mav, what could be the future of re establishing a father daughter relationship.
The radio team cheered as Roosters missile hit the target right on.
They came out of the dune and the SAMs went off.
Now this is where Storm had to be present she had to deploy the flairs and tell Phoenix where the SAMs were going.
"Radar warning! Smoke in the air! Phoenix! Break right!" Mav called.
"Emergency jettison dagger three defending." Phoenix yelled.
"Here comes another one!" Storm yelled, she didn't have time to be panicked now. Now this was every man for themself.
"Dagger one defending!" Mav yelled, "Rooster! Status!"
"Oh my god," Rooster spoke as the SAMs detected them and went off, "Smoke in the air!"
"Break right payback break right!" Fanboy yelled. It was so damn near impossible with everyone's yelling over the radios.
"SAM on your six Rooster!" Payback yelled.
"Deploying countermeasures!" Rooster hit the button, "Negative contact!"
"Dagger one defending!"
"Talk to me Storm!" Phoenix yelled.
"Break right! Phoenix! Break right! Mav nine o'clock'! Nine o'clock!" Storm looked around yelling.
"Rooster two more on your six!" Mav called.
"Dagger two defending!" Storm watched as everything happened.
"SAM on your nose!" Mav called to Payback.
"Dagger four defending!"
"Rooster! Tally seven o'clock!" Storm yelled.
"Talk to me Storm!"
"On our six!" Storm yelled so much was going on it was going so fast yet it felt like it was in slow motion.
"Dagger two defending!"
"Phoenix break right!" Storm yelled.
"I see it! I see it!" Phoenix yelled back. There was so much Storm calling to everyone possible how many SAMs could their be?
"Dagger two defending! Shit I'm out of flares!" Rooster yelled. Storms heart dropped to her ass, fuck.
"Rooster evade! Evade!" Mav yelled.
"I can't shake em! They're on me! They're on me!" Rooster yelled. Mav pulled back blocking Rooster and deploying flares. Storm watched it happen it felt so slow. The SAM hitting Mav's tail and the huge fire explosion.
"DAD!" Storm screamed into the radio.
"Mav! No! No! No!" Roosters eyes were wide. Storms heart was racing as tears started to flow she could cry not now. This was not the time to mourn her heart plunged again as she watched the jet collide with the snowy mountain.
"Dagger one is hit! I repeat dagger one is hit!" Phoenix yelled into the radio.
"Maverick is down!" Storm yelled.
"Dagger one status? Status?" Rooster called with any hope left.
"Does anyone see him?" Storm asked, "Dagger one! Come in!"
"I didn't see a parachute," Payback answered.
"We have to circle back!" Rooster and Storm yelled at the same time.
"Bandits inbound. Single group. Hot. Recommend dagger flow south." Comanchie came in, "One minute to intercept."
"All daggers flow to ECP. You have bandits headed for you."
"What about Maverick?" Rooster responded.
"It's over Rooster." Storm came in the radios a sniff following. The possible fetus she was carrying wouldn’t meet their amazing grandfather…neither did Mazy…
"Dagger spare request permission to launch and fly air cover?" Hangman came in.
"Negative spare."
"Dagger you are not to engage. Repeat do not engage. Dagger two return to carrier. Acknowledge."
"Rooster those bandits are closing. We can't go back. Come on he's gone." Storm called into the radios. She knew Rooster wanted to be stupid and go back. Hell, she wanted to as well but this was not the way to go.
If they tried to fly rescue everyone would be dead.
Storm knew that they both wanted to rebuild what they had burned but chasing dead wasn't the way to go about it.
“Rooster do not do this." Storm called as she watched him. She lost her dad she couldn't lose her lover, her soulmate, the father of her possible fetus…Phoenix glanced back at Storm and they shared a worried look they both knew.
But Rooster did it anyways all lost sight of him.
"Dagger two come in!" Comanchie called, "Dagger two do you copy? Dagger two come in."
Storm ripped her mask off as tears began to stream down her face. "Bradley..." she muttered to herself. This was it. She had lost everyone.
"I'm sorry Storm," Payback came over the radio. Mazy sniffed and rubbed at her eyes as they landed on the carrier.
Once the jets were off she scrambled out of the jet and threw her helmet onto the runway collapsing to her knees.
She brought her hands up to her face. Everything she worked for everything she knew. Gone.
"Mazy," Phoenix ran over kneeling down by her taking off her own helmet.
"They're gone. They're fucking gone." Mazy yelled. Phoenix pulled her gloved hands from her face.
"Look at me Storm, there's a chance they're still out there." Phoenix began.
"If they are they're going to die they're not letting us fly rescue." Storm sniffed.
"I'm so sorry," Payback and Fanboy walked over as Phoenix helped Storm stand up. Fanboy handed Storm her helmet placing a nod.
"Let's get her inside come on." Phoenix nodded toward the ship.
The group led her into the control center. Hondo embraced her in a hug.
"Mazy I'm so sorry," Hondo rubbed her back the short girl breaking down into his arms. Hondo was also a father figure growing up one of the only adults she had contact with when she was growing up.
“Mazy is gonna kill us both when we get out of here." Mav looked over at Bradley as they walked towards the enemy hanger.
"If we make it out of here alive. Yes she will kill us both." Rooster looked at Mav.
“You must really love her,” Mav chewed on his lip.
“I do love her, I love her so much. Nothing could come between my love for.” Rooster explained.
“You let me, she probably thinks your dead.” Mav smacked him on the arm.
“Better than her father. She needs you too Mav. I’m here for you and for her. Let’s steal this plane and get back to her.” Bradley stopped looking at the shorter man. They had to put aside all differences that were still being healed.
Bradley just had this feeling in his stomach that Mazy needed them more than ever and something was going on.
Bradley knew his little bird needed him more than ever right now.
