Got once again told that I was "good at making conversation" and had "people and communication skills"

and that is the biggest lie I ever heard

so a girl will end up writing some sort of "practical guide to making conversation, by a recovering agoraphobic".

But also. If you need a "how to people when no social skills" guide right now, my absolute no bullshit guide is The Shyness and Social Anxiety Workbook (2018, 3rd ed), esp chap 8 and 10. Includes: how long is appropriate to look at someone in the eyes? What are good conversation topics for your neighbors, your colleagues, your boss, your date? How to safely practice social skills/conversation? How to handle shaking/blushing/sweating/nervous stuttering? How is talking to a group different from talking to one person? How to gracefully end a conversation? How to ask for a change at your work schedule? How to start getting better at it *progressively* without being overwhelmed?

It's not a feel good self help/self improvement book, it is not a magic remedy with secret formula, it is more of a "let's learn a new language", with homework and notes to take. Give it a try, it is very easy to find it online

Bucky as a congressman quickly finds how incredibly slow and quite ineffective bureaucracy and diplomacy can be to getting things done and if i remember right bucky says in frustration that everything is closed at 4oclock on friday (that day?) and nothing will happen until monday. so I love the idea that hes like in the congress trenches all week trying to represent brooklyn well and also get slime bag val removed for unauthorized and unethical human experimentation (with which he is personally quite well acquainted) and then the weekend comes around and hes like well. ive got 2 days to smash some skulls and get the dirt i need to come back monday with a laundry list of evidence and witnesses of val's corruption to tie this up nicely!

had a really good conversation about batman that led into comparing him with iron man recently

and it really struck me how fundamentally they're such similar characters - both are billionaire orphans who use their tech to help fix a broken world - but the most significant difference is which side of their character is the "real" one

is it the rich playboy or the masked superhero? for iron man, tony stark is the real one, the suit is just something he puts on for convenience - everybody knows who's under the helmet and that's perfect for him because iron man is tony stark

but for batman? the masked superhero, the detective and the vigilante is his real self. bruce wayne is really just a mask he wears when it's useful, but really batman isn't bruce wayne. bruce wayne is *batman*

I’ve been thinking of Kung Lao, not just MK1 but generally as a whole, and how he’s always pushed aside—number two. In some ways nothing is ever really his. Liu Kang, his best friend, becomes a god and goes onto to make a different timeline and stay there, and before that he got to be Earthrealm’s champion(in mk11 Liu Kang seemed like everything anyone EVER talked about with him). And of course it’s beyond that too: his name isn’t even his(“descendant of the great Kung Lao”), and his destiny and goals seemed to be based a lot on something predetermined for him, it’s a bit tragic.
