A very late response to @rainbow-pearls questionnaire. I'm so sorry because I had exams 😩

1. KaneXSalima is my most favorite ship in Beyblade for a trillion reasons. I have some other favorites like ReiMao, TyHil, KaiJul, OzuMari, etc.

2. Most of the stories I've read about Kane and Salima are very good because they rarely have much fanfiction (the reason FFN or maybe AO3 has more fics is because of me 🥱). But, definitely the best ones for me are Embellishing a heart to two by Cutetyhil (BEST OF ALL) and Trapped in Cold by Black Eilla. The latter story is inspired by Warmth in Coldness by Sipsinekku. The Seeds of the time (forgot the author name) in FFN is another good fic for them.

3. I think it's me 😂 in fact I'm not sure because many authors don't write for them.

5. Cutetyhil has written the most heartbreaking stories for them which is again Embellishing a heart to two and What if I never get over you? if it doesn't count me where I've killed both of them in a fic.

6. Again, barely anyone writes for them. It's not like there is a particular author who writes hilarious fics, but Bangles written by Droplets of blue rain is so far one of the hilarious written stories for KaneSal. Maybe she takes the piece of cake along with Cutetyhil as she has also written some humor content for them in some fics like Love or flirt? @black-eilla you are the next person to be getting this award if you can write more fics.

7. Meeting after years of separation! Their meeting in their mid-twenties or at the onset of their late-twenties after over ten years of separation is one of my favorites. They are separated during their higher education days especially during their college life. She is in Canada and he is in Australia for their respective studies.

Hubby/wifey romances are absolutely my favorite for them! I can imagine them being cheeky, flirty and naughty in their married life.

I like any type of medieval era fics for them, like King/Queen or Emperor/Empress fics, warrior/lover or wife fics, etc.

I love doctor/patient romance for them and obviously you know Kane is the doctor as always but I'm feeling so shameful to admit it.

8. For Salima, I can imagine her with guys like Rei (but however it's my major rival ship so I have a love/hate relationship with them sometimes but still they are looking cute and hot for each other). Tyson is a good choice for Salima too. Maybe guys like Oliver can be a good choice too?

As for Kane, I have an OC called Katsumi. She is an alternate to Salima and I love her with Kane as much as I love Kane and Salima. Other than her, maybe Mao? I've written a fic for them. He is Libra and she is Leo; they are said to have a good compatibility and have the same perspective and opinions towards Beyblading.

9. Harleys in Hawaii by Katy Perry is a travel song. They just roam in Harleys.

Whenever I've listened to regional songs (Kollywood, Bollywood tollywood, etc.), I get reminded of them but I forget the specific songs. I have a song in my right now but should I share it?

10. I have too many at the moment 😭 but I had this idea where Kane and Salima's marriage is found to be controversial, so they face a lot of hardships. One day, after being allegedly beaten, they decide to have a shower. Salima will try to seduce him to have a shower together.

ANANYA PANDEY

She is undoubtedly Bollywood’s new kid on the block. Elder girl of movie actor Chunkey Pandey and Bhavna Pandey, she has been awarded Best Debut for 2020 both by Filmfare and Zee Cine awards for her role in the teen film Student of the Year 2.

She is Ananya Pandey.

An alumnus of Dhirubhai Ambani International School in 2017, Ananya made her acting debut in 2019 with the teen film Student of the Year 2, co-starring Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria, which was produced by Dharma Productions. She next starred in Pati Patni Aur Woh (2019), a remake of the 1978 film of the same name, alongside Kartik Aaryan and Bhumi Pednekar. She played a secretary who indulges in an affair with a married man, which was portrayed by Ranjeeta in the original. With a worldwide gross of ₹1.15 billion (US$16 million), it emerged as a commercial success.

Her fortcoming project is the action film Khaali Peeli, co-starring Ishaan Khatter. Also in the pipeline is Shakun Batra’s as-yet untitled romantic drama, alongside Deepika Padukone and Siddhant Chaturvedi. She will also team with Vijay Deverakonda for Puri Jagannadh’s as-yet untitled multilingual film

Last year, she launched an initiative named ‘So Positive’ to create awareness about social media bullying, prevent negativity and build a positive community. At the 2019 Economic Times Awards, the project was named the Best Initiative of the Year

Can you give a glimpse of your background before everyone came to know you?

Ananya- I was a shy girl basically. My sister is the naughty brat. Because i hail from a film family, because of my Papa, while in school only, i developed interest for acting. I used to follow Aishwarya Rai a lot (Gigges)

How are you as a person off camera? Give us a glimpse of your personal life for our readers (favourite food, hobbies, etc)

Ananya- (Laughs) I love baking cakes. And whenever that happens, me and my sister fight over who’s going to have more. I am crazy about Bollywood music, I play them all the time. I love Disney movies too. Lion King being my favourite. I am a damn good bathroom singer too (laughs)

Tell us about your acting process, How do you prepare for a role in general? Are you a methodical actor or a spontaneous one?

Ananya- Yeh sawal ka jawab toh Papa de payenge ( chuckles). Well, I am yet to evolve as a spontaneous actor. I really have to work hard. My Papa helps me a lot. And in the two movies I have acted so far, my co-actors supported me very much, especially Kartik Aaryan.

Your biggest inspiration?

Ananya- Dadi. She is 81 years old, still gets up early in the morning, goes out for work too, and remains active till 9 PM at night. She’s a doctor. I think thats amazing.

What are the five things you surely carry when you move out of your house?

Ananya- Hmm. My mobile phone for sure, my favourite deo, lipstick as per colour of the day, my credit cards (laughs) and of course something to munch.

What are your favourite films?

Ananya- Kabhi khushi kabhi gam, Kal Ho na Ho, kuch kuch hota hai.. and of course Student of the Year 2. Basically all Dharma production films (chuckles)

What’s your favourite colour?

Ananya- PINK for sure. I am the Pink girl (laughs).

What is your style statement?

Ananya- Its super chill, very casual and clothes and make me comfortable. I hate flashy, dark cokoured heavy clothing.

Your favourite song?

Ananya- Pretty Woman from the movie Kal Ho na Ho. I think its written for me. (blushes!)

Who’s you latest celebrity crush?

Ananya- Varun (Varun Dhawan)..(chuckles) Everyone knows that.

What irritates you the most?

Ananya- Late comers. I am very particular about time, and i get very hassled if people are late,

Your thoughts about Autograph collection as a hobby.

Ananya- I remember the first autograph I signed (chuckles). It was on the first day of the shoot for Student of the Year 2. Otherwise, fans and people whom I meet during parties, film premiers, social gatherings, events etc. mostly try to take selfie / groupfie photos with me. Autographs bahut kam log mangte hain. Yes, I remember, whwn I was a kid, Papa used to sign lots of autographs for fans.

Any special message to your fans?

Ananya- Just chill. Stay cool, stay simple. And during these coronavirus days, stay safe. And try try to help the poor.

How does one really understand Raas Leela?

There a Bollywood song, which goes like this:

The protagonist affirms that women are the most powerful intoxicants. He observes that everyone he knows indulges in this intoxication, with multiple partners. He is frustrated that when others do it, it is called Raas Leela. However, when he does it, he is said to be of loose moral character. This naughty, rebellious song has always brought a smile on my lips.

Recently, I saw the below picture and was reminded of that song and its lyrics...

My big question is: How does one understand (and explain) the Madhurya bhava in Raas in today's context?

I think, one cannot even begin to understand esoteric Hindu concepts like the Raas, the erotic temple architecture of Khajuraho and Konark, or even the magnanimity of the art and science of Kamasutra, unless one recognizes the following:

1. The Hindu way of life gives a great deal of importance to the physicality or material aspect of life. In fact, the four pillars of Purushatha (the essence of human life) are - Dharma (conduct), Artha (material wealth), Kama (desire) and Moksha (liberation).

Sanatana Dharma, in no way, de-emphasizes individual aspiration or desires for material well-being.

2. Having said that, Sanatana Dharma recognizes that physicality is just a small aspect of the entire experience of human life. In fact, when a human being makes a conscious attempt to transcend physicality, numerous other dimensions of life explode. These supra-physical dimensions have the capability to bridge the gap between human and divine.

In fact, the more a human transcends the physical (not avoids it, but fully experiences it and then transcends it), the closer he gets to divine.

I recall reading somewhere a legend that goes like this - Lord Shiva, the alpha male, after an intense love making session with Goddess Parvati, who has just experienced the zenith of erotic pleasure, tells her, "O Devi! What you think is the height of pleasure is not even a tickle for me. Because, when I close my eyes and meditate, the bliss that I experience cannot be explained nor can it be compared to any orgasm my body experiences."

With this backdrop, let's understand Raas Leela!

Raas = Ras = Juicy = Pleasure = Madhurya bhava

Leela = Divine activity

Raas Leela = Divine pleasure - Lord Krishna's divine, playful, pleasurable dancing and singing with his devotees, Gopis.

Raas Leela begins when Krishna plays his flute on a moonlit night, the soft music wafts through the pastures of Vrindavan and reaches the Gopis. The night is perfect – flowers bloom in the full moon, and gentle, cool breeze blows from the banks of Yamuna.

The tune attracts the Gopis, their passion surged and as if in trance, they run to meet their beloved Kanhaiya leaving all their fears, bondages, patience and shyness behind. Some of them are intercepted by their husbands, brothers and fathers and dragged back to home. But only their physical bodies stay put, their souls reach Krishna.

Krishna, the ultimate Yogi, uses Yogmaya to replicate himself to as many physical forms as there are his devotees and becomes one with each of them - in all ways - least of all physical! Because these Gopikas have completely and unconditionally surrendered themselves to him.

How do the Gopika-devotees feel when this divine union happens with their beloved? It is impossible to express that feeling on paper. It can only be experienced. Have you ever sat by yourself and felt untold love, gratitude or devotion for anything or anybody? Can you recollect that feeling in your heart? That sweet and painful feeling in your heart? Now multiply it a trillion times. That's how the Gopis must have felt that night. That's the best I can do to articulate Madhurya bhava.

At that time, their physical bodies were the last thing the Gopis must have been concerned with. They were on the verge of liberation from their physicality!!!

Now, who were these Gopis and what had they done to deserve the Lord's grace?

Lore has it that during Treta Yuga, when Lord Rama was exiled to forest for 14 years, he met many saints, sages and Tapasvis, but he was unable to spend ample time with all of them. Saddened, these sages pleaded with Lord Rama to spend more time with them. Lord Rama promised that one day he will, but not in this lifetime.

These sages died and took rebirths after rebirths and performed tapasya for yugas. Finally, in Dwaparyuga, they were reborn as Gopis and became devotees of Lord Krishna.

Raasa Leela was the Lord's way of fulfilling his promise, by showering his infinite grace on his devotees and making them one with him.

Best Dancer In India Male Karan Singh Nirwan was born in the beautiful city Ajmer in Rajasthan. The father of the naughty child was employed in Indian Railway, and the loving mother was a homemaker. The boy went to Jawahar Senior Secondary school of Ajmer. The loveable kid was fascinated with creative arts like sketching and dancing more than studying. More often, he began to have big arguments with his father as Karan Singh Nirwan was not ready to have a 9 to 5 job. The mother and elder brother of the passionate star were the only people who supported and encouraged him to take his desire as a professional career.

This Indian Choreographer Karan Singh Nirwan performed at the Ajmer Idol in 2005 and successfully gained first prize at the grand event. As a result, the entertainer obtained a bike and cash prizes for his victory. The loved ones supported the boy after the achievement as his skills brought pride to their household. Life changed for the youngster after the success and became a popular household name in the town. The skilful dancer began dance classes to teach students who want to learn the art form. Finally, its time for some magic! Or may be we should say 'Jadoo'.

We remember hearing first about Koi Mil.Gaya when Mr. Rakesh Roshan announced it, possibly during the Zee Cine Awards ceremony of 2001 (the year when Hrithik swept up all awards for KNPH). By the time it released, a few years had passed which was natural considering the grandeur and scale of the film. Mr. Rakesh Roshan astutely conceived of a novel idea in the form of ET meeting Forrest Gump and gave us something Hindi cinema had never seen. Let us take a moment to deeply acknowledge this man, whose razor sharp mind not only engendered such a unique concept but also gave him the vision and stamina to actually turn it into reality.

Koi Mil Gaya was undoubtedly going to be one of the most ambitious projects Bollywood had seen till then, and the greatest challenge the Roshans had yet embarked upon. It would have been no trivial feat if they had managed to be even moderately successful in such a difficult venture. Instead, they broke box office records, and passed with flying colours.

The fact that Hrithik Roshan is one of those rare actors in bollywood who has a terrific following among kids is widely acknowledged at present. However, it was probably John Abraham, who first pointed it out, some time after Koi Mil Gaya. He said that a 'Superstar' was someone who could attract children, thereby pulling entire families into the theatre and in his opinion Hrithik was the only one like that in his generation. More than a decade later, his statement still holds true. And 'Koi Mil Gaya' was where it all actually began. Although KNPH had catapulted him into stardom literally overnight, KMG was the film that began endearing Hrithik to kids. This frenzy reached a peak after Kkrish but more on that later. Hrithik literally played a child in the movie, and he did it with such perfection that kids immediately considered him as their best friend. Last time the Indian audience had seen a similar performance was years ago when the wonderful Sri Devi ji (May she rest in peace) had played the role of Reshmi in the splendid 'Sadma'. Not surprisingly, critics compared Hrithik's performance in the film with hers, and every one of them unanimously agreed that both performances were flawless.

Hrithik changed his voice, his way of speaking, his looks and his body language so much that he actually looked like a little boy. He was optimally sweet, innocent, and annoying, just like you would expect a naughty child to be. Some of his best scenes were with the ever glorious Rekha ji who played his mother in the film. Rekha Ji has often claimed that if she ever had a son, he would be like Hrithik. Offscreen, they actually share a similar relationship and probably that fuelled their amazing mother-son chemistry on screen. The other fantastic partnership in the film was between Hrithik and Preity Zinta. Rohit and Nisha were one of the most unconventional couples of Bollywood. And also, one of the cutest! ☺☺

Nonetheless, the best pair in the film was undoubtedly Rohit and Jadoo. Hindi cinema has been responsible for presenting us with a number of iconic friendship duos over the years. Mohan-Ashok, Anand-Bhaskar, Somu-Vicky, Vijay-Sher Khan, Jai-Veeru, Vijay-Ravi, Kishan-Bishan, Ram and Rahim, Amar-Prem, Munna-Cirquit constitute quite an elite club and Rohit -Jadoo definitely made it to the list.

The kids who played Rohit's mates also deserve a mention here. Hrithik surely must have had a gala time while shooting scenes with them.

However, it was the script and direction that really binded the film together. We have often seen films fail dismally despite having a stellar cast, and the reason for such failure is almost always a lacklustre script or uninspiring direction. Fortunately, Koi Mil Gaya was perfect in both these departments, as a result of which Hrithik could literally soar above every other performer that year.

A few words need to be mentioned about the music of the film although it needs no introduction. The songs were a rage then; they are equally hummable now. Sadly, present bollywood rarely makes such melodious music anymore! The good old days...Ah! But let us not lament. Instead, why do we not just relive those moments for a while? Hrithik dancing in Rohit’s character remains one of the best bits of acting he has done in his life.

Coming to the scenes! Yes, the most exciting part 😉! It is really difficult to choose favourites from a film like Koi Mil Gaya. Even so, we decided to give it a shot. Lets start with the moment when Rohit discovered that he had not been promoted with his friends. Didn't the sudden disappointment on Rohit's previously excited face make you want to go and give him a cuddle? 🥺 Also, don't even try to tell us that you did not cry when the goons broke his scooter and later hit him with the basket ball leaving him battered and bruised or when he pleaded to Lord Krishna for more strength ('Thodi shakti mujhe de do Bhagwan) 😟🥺😭😭.

And what about the scene in which he was angry and upset about Nisha not being his 'girlfriend'? Hrithik and Rejha ji in intense emotional scenes are always a treat to watch. The scene where Jadoo met Rohit and Nisha for the first time and healed Rohit's scars with his touch after that iconic hand extension moment attracted silent awe from the audience in theatres then and remains goosebump- inducing even now. No discussion about Koi Mil Gaya can ever be complete without mentioning Rohit's splendid transition. We got the Greek God on screen for a few scenes in which he generated hysteria among the audience that had been viewing him as a son or younger brother for most part of the film. What an actor! The ending was bittersweet for many. After all, Rohit did revert back to his childish self as a price for saving Jadoo's life. But, Jadoo gave him his powers back! And thank God for that. How else would he go to Singapore and meet Dr. Siddhant Arya later in his life? Our Superhero Kkrish would not have a villain to kill in his debut film! My God, worse could have happened. Kkrish would have never become a superhero if Jadoo had not given Rohit his powers back! So well done Jadoo 🤗🤗

OMG! This blog has been running over pages! Excuse us for the length 😁. But one of us did watch KMG from the first row, all the while straining neck on the first day of its release. The other one watched it comfortably the first time ( tickets were prebooked, of course) but got a sore neck after watching it from the front row a second time, and also gave the same to the entire family. However, no one complained. So, now you know what this film means to us. Thank you for your love, encouragement and support. They keep us going. Adios Amigos till the next one 😉😊

Having made his debut as a supporting actor in an August 1988 film Biwi Ho To Aisi with Rekha and Farooq Sheikh; he hit the jackpot with his next venture as Prem in Sooraj Barjatya’s Maine Pyar Kiya catapulting him to dizzying heights. That film by the Rajashree films became the launching pad for the career of this eldest child of the famous writer Salim Khan to a glorious position.

In the last 31 years, Salman Khan has had a tumultuous journey with all shades of its ups and downs but currently he is perched right there at the top.

While other ventures face an uncertain future, Salman Khan, has been the box office king of Bollywood. This is proved by the fact that 13 of his movies have made it to the 100-crore club.

The ‘young’ man in his fifties who refuses to get pinned to a settled married life, has set the benchmark for others so high that in the last 8 years, every Salman Khan film has crossed 100 crore mark at the box office, 5 movies touched the 200 crore club and 3 movies are in 300 crore club.

The actor has worked in more than 80 Bollywood films so far, made special appearances in several films and sung few songs. He has launched many actors too; Katrina Kaif, Zareen Khan, Daisy Shah, Sooraj Pancholi- to name only a few.

The point is that Salman making his presence felt in his hit films is remarkable given the fact that most of them have had the most glamorous and beautiful heroines of Bollywood starring opposite him such as Aishwarya, Madhuri, Katrina etc. A few of these movies were out and out heroine-oriented films. But he has won over the audiences with his cherubic and innocent smile and that peculiar naughty behaviour.

The bad publicity he has had with cases against him winch has only toughened his resolve not to get married till all the cases have been disposed of.

Yet another masterpiece of his strategy has been his image makeover as the host of the hugely popular TV reality show Big Boss.

This is one show where he does not have a ready-made script as in films. It is Salman Khan who monitors the activities of celebrities packed in the Big Boss home, judges them, scolds them, humors them and sometimes even throws them out for their crude behaviour.

As the ‘Super Boss’ of the show Salman is forced to be at his best behavior. Even as he judges the inmates of the house his own personal values are all the time being judged by people who stay awake till late in the night to watch the show.

Kabul Dreams – Rock ‘n’ Rolling from Kabul

KABUL  |  Perhaps nothing best describes youth angst like a song entitled I Wanna Run Away, one of several original numbers performed by Kabul Dreams in a live concert held last week at the American University of Afghanistan. With no other lyrics except the title refrain, lead singer and guitarist Sulyman Qardash alternately sang and screamed into the microphone a sentence that probably resonates even more so with Afghanistan's youth.

Some people will tell you that Afghans don't live in a context where they can act like "teenagers" and rebel against their families and society ("Do they even want to?" some have wondered), but of course, they certainly feel the same emotions. Who better to express it than a rock band? Standing there and watching the crowd of enthusiastic AUA students, it struck me that the song was also apropos of so much more. When Qardash sings about running away, you're reminded that scores of young Afghans do run away to Europe or elsewhere every day in search of education or decent jobs.

A crowd of about 200 people cheered on Afghanistan's newest rock band, which was established a year ago. Qardash's mic was low, and there was too much feedback from the amplifiers at times, but that didn't ruin their performance or diminish their individual talents. Drummer Mujtaba Habibi showed off his skills in a couple sets with solo routines and bassist Siddique Ahmed, who is sometimes called Sid, definitely held his own too. As for Qardash, the frontman appeared to be having fun while impressing with his guitar riffs and vocals.

All three band members were born in Afghanistan but lived in neighboring countries for several years. Habibi was in Iran, while Ahmed lived in Pakistan. Qardash grew up in Uzbekistan and was a relative latecomer returning to Afghanistan in 2008. All three came from musical backgrounds, with Habibi, for example, playing in a band that was into pop rock and pop Latin music. "When I came to Kabul, I was looking for people who were into music, and I was introduced to Mujtaba through a friend," Ahmed said in an interview with AfghanMagazine.

"We got together and started working in a small studio where we practiced on our own and recorded and produced songs for some new artists.

Sulyman was introduced to us through another friend by chance, and when we got to know each other, we thought, why not start a band, so the triangle was completed and Kabul Dreams was [born]."

While the band's logo is similar to the Dead Kennedys', their sound is indie rock, inspired by British bands. Like "I Wanna Run Away," the band's other songs, with topics like love and failed romance, have bittersweet overtones.

"This next song is called Julie," Ahmed said. "I think everyone has had Julie in their lives." The crowd roared their agreement.

It being Afghanistan, the girls sat demurely on the sidelines while a large group of young men stood center stage waving their hands, jumping and dancing.

"I'm part of the first mosh pit in Afghanistan," one concert-goer was heard saying.

The university's faculty acted as cheerleaders and chaperones, some dancing to the music and reminding you of how you used to giggle uncomfortably when your teachers tried to look cool at your high school dances, which is what the whole event felt like even though the crowd was a bit older. The band performed several covers, including an endearing rendition of "Wonderwall" by Oasis and "Knockin'On Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan with Ahmed encouraging everyone to sing along to the latter. No one really did, of course, because Bollywood, not rock'n'roll, is on most people's playlists still.

A few people around me, namely other Afghan-Americans, wondered how soon these guys would receive death threats from the Taliban. Whatever else, everything in Afghanistan is intensely political. It's never easy to forget where you are, like a nice gym paid for by U.S. taxpayers at an institution that's intended to educate an elite set. Beyond the post-9/11 black and white world view (the Taliban vs. rock'n'roll), I wondered if people regarded a band's artistic dreams and ability to express itself as solemnly as let's say poverty.

It's too soon to claim that Kabul Dreams echoes the voice of a generation, but one thing that was clear that night is the energy of Afghanistan's young people (68% the population is under the age of 25).

Maybe another Dylan classic would have said it better: Times they are a-changin'.

Interview with Kabul Dream's bassist Sid Ahmad

We asked Kabul Dreams a few questions. The responses came from band bassist Sid Ahmed.

Roya Aziz: So Sid, is there a Nancy? Sid: There's always Nancys, Julies, Jessicas, and so on! However, this is Afghanistan, so; basically, you know what I'm saying!

Roya Aziz: We are Old School. What do you think of Stars, the Ahmad Zahir rock band? Do you consider them an influence? Sid: Stars were probably one of the best bands we ever had in Afghanistan. Although they were influenced by the classic rock bands of the time, the music they played was not rock, it was a kind of fusion played with drums and guitars at which they were pretty good. Our influences are mostly British Indie rock bands, mostly new ones.

Roya Aziz: Your peers download Bollywood ringtones at an alarming rate. Do you think English rock will find a place amid these types of traditional preferences? Sid: Even Bollywood is now influenced by rock! It's just a matter of time, very soon the most popular ring tone will be "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"!

Roya Aziz: Who's your favorite rock'n'roll personality, and why? Sid: We all have our favorites. Mine is Paul McCartney because he's one of the best songwriters of all time.

Roya Aziz: Do you guys play Guitar Hero? Sid: We play guitars, so there's hardly time for any guitar hero!

Roya Aziz: What about your female fans? They seemed a bit restrained at your AUA show. Do you think the type of songs you write resonates with them? Sid: They like our songs, that is what all matters to us. Girls are restrained not only at AUA show but all over Afghanistan for many reasons. Our songs are mostly about love, relationships, friendship, peace, etc.. so I think they do resonate with them.

Roya Aziz: Do you foresee any competition from an Afghan all-girl rock band in the near future? Sid: We definitely foresee a competition from an Afghan rock band, but an all-girl rock band would definitely be hard to compete with!

Roya Aziz: What was your reaction to the overwhelming support from the audience at the South Asia Bands Festival in India? Sid: It was an exciting experience! The fact that they appreciated our music and were thrilled by it was a sign that what we started was something that we could be proud of. And what matters most to us is that we tried so hard to get there, on our own, without any support, facing difficulties on some basic things like lack of electricity, a place to practice … And now all our efforts were yielding the fruit!

Roya Aziz: What I love about Afghanistan is …. Sid: The fact that in spite of the problems and issues it has, you can't be away from it for too long!

Roya Aziz: What I don't like about Afghanistan is … Sid: The suicide attacks!

Roya Aziz: Where do you see your band in 10 years from now? Sid: At the Grammy award show, or probably a celebration after we have won [an award]!

Roya Aziz: Where do you see the country in 10 years from now? Sid: The country will probably have figured out a better security system by then. Wearing a life vest and traveling with armored vehicles might be part of the visa requirements!

Roya Aziz: I used to play a short-scale bass. Think we can jam sometime? Just kidding. I haven't played in 12 years. Rock on, Kabul Dreams. Sid: We can play guitar hero together sometimes and don't worry, I suck at it!

The album is considered to be a monumental feat in the history of music and is planned and executed with utmost perfection. Something that is synonymous with beyonce now. It truly amazes me how people try everything to tarnish her image and some even have the audacity to compare her with the mediocre artists of this generation who a few pop/RnB/country hits but can’t even hold a note without breathing heavily. Nevertheless, beyonce continues to be a legend and set an example for other artists.

The 1950s saw rock n’ roll becoming a major part of the cultural landscape. In the 1960s psychedelic rock was the new craze. The 1970s had disco, the 80s were about new wave, and the 90s saw grunge and hip-hop sell millions of CDs. It’s a flawed, simplistic and incomplete way to describe each decade, sure, but the fact remains that these are the genres most associated with every one of them.

When it comes to the 2000s though, the portrait is a lot harder to decipher. Sure, there were trends, but each time one died, four new ones emerged.

More than a single genre, what truly defined the 2000s was the growing presence of the internet. Slowly but surely, this new found connectivity helped usher a completely new paradigm of how music would find its way from the artists to the masses. Suddenly, radio stations and music television were not the only ones in control, dictating what is hot and what is not. Platforms like Facebook, Soundcloud and Bandcamp had yet to become the go-to destinations for new acts, but MySpace quickly established itself as a major factor in the musical landscape. It gave new, hip artists a platform to reach big audiences and create a massive buzz without having to play in every city or rely on giant label-heads (see: Arctic Monkeys, Lily Allen, Owl City, etc.) Later in the decade, the arrival of YouTube meant that creative, viral music videos could bring a lot of attention to an otherwise average band with little money (see: Ok Go). A sign of music’s importance to Youtube, ever since Bad Romance reached 178,4 million views in late 2009, the record for most views by a video on the popular website has always belonged to a music video. Meanwhile, programs and sites like Napster and Limewire meant that teenagers didn’t have to rely on pocket money and 20$ CDs to enjoy their favorite songs, as their iPods and computers’ libraries were expanding in both size and diversity. 

Looking back, it’s easy to believe that, even as the music industry was showing its first signs of weakness on a financial level, music fans were listening to more music than ever. It is precisely this trend that made the music so interesting in the 2000s. With so many different artists from different backgrounds just one shuffle away - from bedroom electroclash experimentation à la M.I.A. or Peaches to garage rockers like The White Stripes or The Strokes, to high profile, incredibly rich (and horny) rappers like 50 Cent or Lil Wayne - it was only a matter of time before genre labels became almost useless. In 2007, Rihanna went from R&B on Umbrella to new wave-informed rock on Shut Up And Drive in the span of few months. The same year, hip-hop’s new sensation Kanye West injected glam rock ambition on his third album Graduation before leaving rap almost completely a year later on 808s and Heartbreaks. The DFA label made punk music for the dance floor while dance artists programmed synths with so much distortion you could throw the devil sign in the air. Scenes were no longer limited to a geographical location and artists were more and more influenced by sounds from across the globe.

If the legacy of acts from the 1960′s and 1970′s is well established, the visionaries of the 2000s are yet to find that praise. Discussions about the best songs of all time steer quickly to The Beatles, Led Zeppelin or Michael Jackson, but it’s only a matter of time before the 00 artists get their part of the cake too. It is with this in mind that I am proud to present to you, through the next 10 weeks, a completely incomplete, ludicrous, but also very passionate and thoughtful countdown of the 100 best singles of the 2000s.

This is not necessarily a list of the most popular, influential or groundbreaking tracks of the decade, rather a commentary on the most effective tracks; those who aimed for the moon and landed right on top of it, those who induced goosebumps and those who should still fill dance floors in a few decades without any cringe. It will contain smash hits and underground phenomena. Indie darlings and hard-hitting hip-hop. Loud guitars and quiet electronic flourishes. It will be varied and all over the place, just like the decade that we’re celebrating here. It is not a definitive answer, rather the start of a discussion and a good way to discover some great music you might have been sleeping on, back when it was trending and buzzing.

Each article will present you, in decreasing order, 10 essential songs of the aughts from the countdown, with a quick description to place each track back in context and/or justify its inclusion. In order to keep the countdown as varied as possible, acts were limited to three appearances as lead artists. Each article will also include a Spotify playlist of all the songs revealed so far, when available.

100 tracks might seem like a huge number, but it’s impossible to contain 10 years of music in such a list. This is why, as an appetizer for the series to come, you will find below 10 tracks from artists who, despite leaving their mark on the decade, fell incredibly short of making it to the countdown. These do not necessarily correspond to positions 110 to 101; they are just bands and singers who deserved a quick shout-out so that you cannot act like they have been forgotten later on.

Katrina was asked to share the most naughty or memorable thing she did at the age of 18. Responding to this, the 33-year actor said, "I was 18 when I met Salman [Khan] and that is the most memorable thing.”

Salman immediately quipped, “There is nothing naughty that I did. And there is nothing memorable that I have done.”

Earlier, when Salman was asked if he would be joining Katrina for her birthday, he had said that he has no such plans as yet. "I hope Katrina invites me for her birthday," the actor had said during Tubelight promotions.

On the work front, both Salman and Katrina will next be seen in Ali Abbas Zafar's Tiger Zinda Hai, which is slated to release this December.
