Sewing Follow-up aka The Serger
Since I whined a bit yesterday about the serger, I thought I better show what I was doing with it. I used both my serger and my newly fixed Bernina to make chair cushions for a chair that has been […]

I spent 12 years with an admittedly fine sofa from Crate and Barrel. I loved the chocolate brown color, until I didn’t. CandB announced their annual sofa sale 2 weeks ago and I did a happy dance. Our new Petrie sofa is exactly the same as the old sofa except that it’s a little shorter, charcoal gray, firmer, and cleaner.
I have 2 midcentury modern arm chairs whose cushions were covered with a lovely brown print that I had also grown very tired of. They looked so bad with the gray sofa that I couldn’t put off recovering them.
Why is it that there are so few choices in upholstery fabric, especially if you don’t live in a big city? I could have shopped online but I wanted to see and feel the fabric. I was amazed that I found the perfect fabric at Hobby Lobby — and it was even on sale!
You know me and dots…
Just so you know, recovering cushions is not hard. You have the skills to do this. Use the old cushions as a guide and go for it!
I made the brown the cushions years ago and it wasn’t hard to use them as patterns for the new covers. The foam inserts did not need to be replaced. I spent a few hours carefully cutting all the pieces for 2 seat cushions and 2 chair backs.
And then I sewed. It took longer than I thought it would, partly because I made the covered cording too. My trusty BERNINA 1140 handled the many thicknesses of this thick fabric just fine. I love that machine!
I finished the last cushion just before the eclipse which, when you look at the fabric, felt perfect.
I bought more of this fabric than I needed. There’s probably at least a yard, but there are diagonal cuts from where I cut the bias for the cording. If you would like what I have left and are will to pay the postage, it’s yours :-). Email me at [email protected]. The first person I hear from gets it. I’ll send you a PayPal invoice for the shipping.
One thing leads to another… I spent 12 years with an admittedly fine sofa from Crate and Barrel. I loved the chocolate brown color, until I didn't.

Get Ready With Me, Disability Edition | What is Normality, Anyway?
youtube
This video is devoted to all you warriors out there. It is not always easy. But we have obtained this.
In 2011, I was identified with a serious, everyday living-threatening and incurable autoimmune vasculitis called Takayasu’s Arteritis. This suggests that my immune system obtained perplexed and begun attacking the most important arteries that provide blood from my coronary heart, to my mind and arms. The inflammation is at this time under management many thanks to medicines, but the damage is long-lasting. The arteries that are most affected direct up to my mind and my left arm. The medicines, whilst completely vital, also have unpleasant side outcomes and make me very weary. I will probable be on some mix of medicines for the rest of my everyday living as the health issues simply cannot be healed, and I will probable knowledge durations of remission and relapse through my everyday living. The health issues is serious – “chronic illness” suggests that you really don't get much better, like you would from a flu or chilly – it is ongoing. I have also been identified with a variety of other problems that come alongside with this autoimmune health issues: IBS, adrenal suppression, Fibromyalgia (a serious ache situation), serious tiredness, immune suppression, osteopoenia, and I also live with generalised anxiety problem and bouts of depression.
I use mobility aids this sort of as a shower chair, wheelchair and mobility scooter and from time to time a cane to guide with tiredness, ache and dizziness. I really don't have to have them every single day and I can, on very superior days, wander about a kilometre (a bit less than a mile). Mobility aids have been exceptionally empowering for me, as they let me leave my home and live my everyday living without the need of becoming horribly fatigued/in ache/dizzy all the time! I’m able to do so significantly far more than I was able to just before I obtained my mobility aids and I’m so grateful for their existence.
If you’ve always been healthful, you may imagine this all seems very dire and tragic.
But it is not.
I really don't despise my everyday living, or wish I had someone else’s everyday living. NOT AT ALL. It is not always easy residing with incapacity – and at moments, it can be completely terrifying and isolating. And whilst these ailments are a large part of my everyday living and can have an impact on what I do – they really don't outline me. I can however do no matter what I place my thoughts to. I however have alternatives. Incapacity is just 1 element of what I consider to be an exceptionally fortunate and privileged everyday living.
P.S. I really don't talk for every single particular person with a incapacity!! Everybody ordeals things in another way – this video just incorporates MY ordeals residing with incapacity.
If you’d like to observe the day-to-day ups and downs of my everyday living with incapacity and serious/psychological health issues, I post about them a lot at @littlepineneedle on Instagram (http://ift.tt/2g32DD5). I also post a lot of adorable outfit pictures far too )
