I remember you mentioned having a Mihawk playlist, and the way you manage to find songs that perfectly fit the vibes of your fics and enhance the reading experience is one of the things I love about your writing
So I was wondering if you could share some of the songs on your playlist? Or even some songs that you associate with certain characters/tropes/scenarios?
I always love it when you send me asks, @sexc-snail.
I absolutely DO have a Mihawk playlist. I share the playlist construction with another creator on Tumblr who I love, cherish and adore: @sordidmusings. We add to it as we write, recommend songs as they come to us to help with words in works.
I could get into a long, long rant about music so I will add a page break here ❤. Lots of song recs to follow for the OPLA cast so far.
I am a violinist; have been playing for 25 years this year (I AM GETTING OLD, JEEPERS CREEPERS). Music is a great, passionate love affair for me and I adore learning about songs and pieces new and old. Here are some recommendations for songs and vibes I associate with the characters and the tropes.
I never add lyrics to my fics so the readers can visualize their own favourite melodies where they see fit, but I do have tunes in mind when I write them. The only fic I've really centralised a song about is the "You Should Be Sad" Mihawk fic I wrote a while back and the Koby series I'm writing.
Here are some song recommendations: all songs are Spotify linked. Enjoy a peek into my madness.

PLOTTING CHEAT SHEET, but ranked like they're characters in a game that you have to " beat ". choose your fighter, i guess. please click on the [ ♡ ] and i'll approach you for plotting.
GIANNA LOMBARDI. level : beginner. gianna is generally nice, maybe a slight judgmental if your fashion sense isn't aligned with hers or she just thinks it's ugly. she networks a lot, too, so it makes sense for muses to know her. especially the famous or famous adjacent ones. potential dynamic ideas include : your muse being her client, wlw ships that could be anything from friends to lovers / rivals to lovers, platonic friends, party friends, circumstantial friends.
MIGUEL ZAPATA. level : easy. friendly, chill, & an overall good time. who doesn't wanna hang out with a retired drug dealer & car enthusiast who still has all his connections? potential dynamic ideas include : he used to be your muse's plug, rival dealers or old dealer friends, friends he parties with, racers who were friends with his family members when they still lived in nyc, childhood friends, friends with benefits, exes.
BENNY JOVILLAR. level : intermediate. benny is overall friendly & good natured, but suspicious & untrusting due to his lines of work. i mean, you'd also be this way if you work around cops as your 9 - 5 then end the night perched with a sniper rifle & eyes on your victim. please note : your muse will never know he's a hitman unless it's something that has been extensively plotted. benny is entirely serious about keeping his & jo's identities a secret. probably the only thing he's serious about. potential dynamics include : friends from work ( those who work in law enforcement or law enforcement adjacent fields ), general friends he could've met at parties or clubs or the bars he frequents, lovers, exes, neighbors.
HEART BEAUMONT. level : intermediate. look, heart isn't difficult to befriend, but she's definitely judgmental and not the kind of person you'd want to befriend because frankly... she can be mean. thread ideas : your muse helping her with a PI case, or someone giving her gossip, going out for drinks with heart, telling heart stories because she loves that. dynamics : neighbors, friends, bffs, enemies, someone heart teaches how to play the violin in her down time. the possibilities are indeed endless! heart will love you more if you're judgmental and always have gossip or if you tell her stories.
JOSEPHINE " JO " GATLIN. level : hard. your muse can know jo as one of two identities : the matchmaker, or as jo gatlin, the bar owner and violinist. not both, unless plotted extensively. josephine keeps the list of people who know her criminal identity very small though she may meet some criminals in person, she wouldn't tell them her real name. with that being said, potential dynamics include : clients who often seek her resources, criminals who rely on her to make ends meet or for jobs in general, friends who run in similar circles if they're wealthy, business partners the matchmaker's server could partner with.
ANTONIO LA RUSSA. level : hard. sigh. antonio is a kind person, however he's not a people person. his work keeps him busy, and he tends to be a lone wolf, anyway. he has plenty of acquaintances and some real friends, but it's really a small circle. however, one of the dynamics can be that your muse and antonio are friends and see each other quite a bit or they're both in the business field and network a lot so they're always seeing each other at events.
SECRET MENU MUSES. these are the muses you might become familiar with if we have threads or talk about the muses ooc. by request only.
RUSTY BARING. level : easy. rusty is pretty easy-going and getting along with him isn't difficult. he likes bad jokes, drinking, smoking weed with his friends, and overall having a good time. rusty isn't really trusting, but he's easy to make shallow friends with, and he's fun. potential thread ideas include : meeting rusty at a party or the restaurant where he works, smoking sessions, him as a shoulder to cry on, etc. dynamic ideas : best friends, ride or dies, even high school friends from his hometown who visit glasgow. he's really all about the soft dynamics.
THEO DABNEY. level : easy. theo is our resident sweetheart. loves people. the embodiment of the chatty bartender trope who you can spill all your problems to. non-judgmental. possible threads : your muse meeting theo at a party or at the bar for the first time, smoking sessions with theo, hanging out with theo in general. dynamics : also one for soft dynamics, your muse can be a regular at the bar, theo and your muse can be really good friends ( bonus points if they're good friends with both theo and rusty ), sibling-figures, exes ( theo is bi so anything goes ), friends from when he was trying to be a comedian.
FRIDA DABNEY. level : easy. the daughter of olympia & theo. aspiring rnb singer who isn't aware of her parents being criminals. potential dynamics : musicians who are willing to show her the ropes, aunts or uncle figures who are friends with her parents, friends, lovers, exes.
CATARINA CASWELL. level : extreme. cat's rude and petty. she loves making fun of people in the name of humor, and judging people as well. coming from a rich family and being an influencer, she thinks everyone should know who she is. feel free to humble her. or, your muse and her can plot her sister's death. up to you.

James Reese Europe (February 22, 1881 – May 9, 1919), known as Jim Europe, was an American ragtime and early jazz bandleader, arranger, and composer. He was the leading figure in the African American music scene of New York City. Eubie Blake called him the "Martin Luther King of music". He organized the Clef Club, a society for African Americans in the music industry. In 1912, the club made history when it played a concert at Carnegie Hall for the benefit of the Colored Music Settlement School. The Clef Club Orchestra, while not a jazz band, was the first band to play proto-jazz at Carnegie Hall. It is difficult to overstate the importance of that event in the history of jazz in the US – it was 12 years before the Paul Whiteman and George Gershwin concert at Aeolian Hall, and 26 years before Benny Goodman's famed concert at Carnegie Hall. The Clef Club's performances played music written solely by African American composers, including Harry T. Burleigh and Samuel Coleridge-Taylor. His orchestra included Will Marion Cook, who had not been in Carnegie Hall since his performance as a solo violinist. Cook was the first African American composer to launch full musical productions, fully scored with a cast and story every bit as classical as any Victor Herbert operetta. He was known for his outspoken personality and unwillingness to bend to musical conventions, particularly in his insistence on playing his style of music. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence https://www.instagram.com/p/Co9sxPNL2hd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🔥Lelia Daniels✨
Lelia is a pyromancer, an illusionist, a violinist, and her fatal flaw is that she wants to help everyone. 🎻
“Your transitions across strings are impeccable. You’re doing things I couldn’t dream of when I was your age.”
Lelia laughed. “Well, I have a cheat,” she said, splaying her hand out wide. The spaces between her left fingers were probably insignificant to the average onlooker, but every other string player she’d talked to knew what they were looking at. Some even asked if she was a cellist.
Loony Benny’s eyes shown with recognition, and he nodded. “You must do your hand stretches.”
“Something like that,” Lelia said.
In truth, her hands just naturally did that. But she wasn’t going to complain. She focused less on hand stretches and more on grip strength in an attempt to keep all of her ligaments functioning properly—while secretly hoping nothing blew out beyond repair.

Penny and Benny are the most perfect musician couple, Penny is the violinist, She's doing good practicing her big brown violin, and Benny is the clarinet player, He's did so good playing the clarinet but he played the beautiful music,
These perfect cuddly couple are the special musicians between Pink, Brown, and Yellow, Black, 💗🎻💛🎼

Victor Young
Victor Young (Chicago, 1900 - Los Angeles, 1956) American musician who stood out for his work in the cinema as a composer of soundtracks. Considered one of the most influential musicians in Hollywood, Victor Young came to the world of cinema after some absolutely rocky beginnings.
As he was the son of Polish emigrants and mastered the language of his parents, they decided to send him to Europe, thinking about his early musical education. He studied at the Warsaw Conservatory and soon accredited great musical gifts, surprising his teachers, who witnessed a brilliant career that led him in his teens to be the first violin of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra.
Until that moment, his career did not suffer any setbacks; but, in 1917, he agrees to go on a concert tour in Russia, in full revolutionary euphoria. Security guarantees were minimal and he, in fact, was arrested.
Everything raised fears for his personal integrity when a Bolshevik officer, admired for his talent, planned the escape of Young, who seemed touched by bad luck, because shortly after outwitting the Russian authorities, he was arrested again, this time in Germany, a country where his presence was not opportune, either. Once again, his talent as a violinist was the safe-conduct that helped him get out of prison, heading to the United States.
After the hectic European tour, Victor Young decides to settle in Los Angeles, where he gains fame as a violinist. Attracted by the world of cinema, he tries his luck in the orchestra that Paramount has on staff to interpret the soundtracks of its productions. To everyone's surprise, Young began composing and arranging scores, and did so with such ease that he has gone down in film history as one of the world's most prolific musicians.
In his professional curriculum, there are around three hundred and fifty compositions and arrangements. His musical ability was best utilized by director Cecil B. DeMille, for whom Young composed unforgettable soundtracks such as those for Canadian Mounted Police and Samson and Delilah .
However, Victor Young is best known for being the author of several western tunes without which it is difficult to explain the musical conventions of the genre: Johnny Guitar , Deep Roots and Rio Grande , among others. Although he devised soundtracks of unquestionable interest, in the case of The Quiet Man , he only won an Oscar, which was awarded posthumously, for Around the World in 80 Days , his cinematographic testament.
