I absolutely DO have a Mihawk playlist. I share the playlist construction with another creator on Tumblr who I love, cherish and adore: @sordidmusings. We add to it as we write, recommend songs as they come to us to help with words in works.

I could get into a long, long rant about music so I will add a page break here ❤. Lots of song recs to follow for the OPLA cast so far.

I am a violinist; have been playing for 25 years this year (I AM GETTING OLD, JEEPERS CREEPERS). Music is a great, passionate love affair for me and I adore learning about songs and pieces new and old. Here are some recommendations for songs and vibes I associate with the characters and the tropes.

I never add lyrics to my fics so the readers can visualize their own favourite melodies where they see fit, but I do have tunes in mind when I write them. The only fic I've really centralised a song about is the "You Should Be Sad" Mihawk fic I wrote a while back and the Koby series I'm writing.

The Violinist and the Baseball Player (Benny Rodriguez x Fem!reader)

Pairings : Benny Rodriguez and female reader

Warnings : none, just fluff, slight teasing

Summary : Benny is right, like most times. You’ve been practicing for days with little to no breaks and you can see now how it's affecting you in a bad way. It’ll be nice to go outside again and playing ball sounded great. Plus, you miss the boys.

A/N : For the anon who requested it, thank you for requesting (• ε •) Couldn't think of a better title but I like it. Excuse the mistakes if there's some and to whoever is reading this, thanks for reading and like, comment or reblog :)

You groan in frustration for the third time in the past hour, having messed up once again, and lower your bow and violin. You've been practicing your piece for the upcoming performance for weeks now, making sure you have every note right and you did.

However, as the day of the performance gets closer, your nerves grow stronger. And now that it’s in three days, you’re consumed by nerves to the point your hands shake whenever you pick up your violin. Not to mention how you keep messing up.

If you keep it up, you might as well not go at all. But that wasn’t an option.

“That sounded good.” Benny says from his spot on the couch.

“Don’t patronize me, Benny.” You grumble.

“I’m not.” Benny assures you and smiles when you look at him. ”You're doing great. You’ve done this a million times before, this isn’t any different.”

“It actually is.“ You say in a matter of fact tone which makes Benny chuckle. “Before I wasn’t a nervous wreck which made it easy to play. Now I am and I suck.”

“You don’t suck.” Benny stands and stops in front of you, laying both hands on your shoulder and giving you a reassuring squeeze. “You’re the best violin player I know.”

“I’m the only violin player you know and it’s called a violinist by the way.” You say seriously.

Benny chuckles. “You’re still the best violinist I know. And I know you’re gonna knock them dead at the performance.”

“Not if I knock myself dead first with how bad I’m doing.” You frown before shaking the thoughts out of your head and motion for Benny to sit back down. “Alright, enough talking. We’re wasting time.”

Benny doesn’t listen and keeps standing in the same place. You give him a look but it does nothing. Then you realize the expression on his face, the slight raised brows, the glint in his eyes and the smile on his lips.

“Benny-“

“Let’s go to the Sandlot.”

You look at him in disbelief. “I have to practice for a performance that’s in three days- that I’m flunking if you didn’t hear- and you want to go to the Sandlot?”

“Yes.” He simply says which makes your disbelief grow. Seeing that you’re not giving in, Benny’s expression softens and he lowers his head so he can be at eye level with you. “Hey, you’re stressed and one second away from breaking down.”

“You got that right.”

A soft smile forms on his lips at your words. ” I might not be a doctor but I do know playing some ball will make you feel better. You don’t have to think about anything, you just have fun. So what do you say?”

Benny is right, like most times. You’ve been practicing for days with little to no breaks and you can see now how it's affecting you in a bad way. It’ll be nice to go outside again and playing ball sounded great. Plus, you miss the boys.

A smile that matches Benny’s forms on your lips and before you can say anything, Benny quickly kisses your cheek.

“Great. I’ll get the boys while you change and meet us at the Sandlot in ten.” With that, Benny leaves your house.

You watch him leave with the smile still on your lips and giggle softly at how excited he was. You start to think that perhaps Benny just wanted to go to the Sandlot but you know he meant what he said.

You put your violin and bow in their case and store it in your room before quickly changing into a pair of shorts and t-shirt with your worned out shoes and grab your glove.

“Mom, I’m going to the Sandlot.” You shout as you run towards the door.

She pokes her head out from the kitchen and looks at you confused. “What about your violin practice?”

“I’m done for the day.” You quickly say and open the door but before you step foot outside, Mom says your name sternly and it has you stopping in your tracks.

She comes out of the kitchen, wiping her hands on her apron as she approaches you with a serious look. “The performance is three days away and by the sound of it, you need all the practice you can get. You can’t get distracted now.”

“Mom, please.“ You sigh and turn to face Mom with a pleading look. “Just for today let me have some fun instead of practicing. Benny even said it would be good for me to play some ball.”

At the sound of Benny’s name, Mom hesitates to berate you again. She has a soft spot for Benny; in her eyes, he’s the perfect gentleman. You can see her rethinking her words and as she does, you pout and give her your best puppy eyes.

She sighs and nods. “Alright just for today and then tomorrow you’ll go back to practicing.”

“Thank you, Mom. You’re the best.” You grin and kiss Mom on the cheek.

“Yes, I know.” Mom brushes you off but the smile on her lips betrays her and it makes you laugh. You wave her goodbye before sprinting out the house and towards the Sandlot.

When you get to the Sandlot, most of the boys are already there sitting at the dugout. The only ones missing are Benny, Smalls, and Ham. You approach the boys with a smile one your lips and when they see you, they all light up.

“You finally showed up.” Kenny teases with a grin when he sees you approaching. “We were starting to think you replaced us with that violin.”

You laugh. “I could never- well, all that violin does is drive me crazy which isn’t too off from you guys.”

Kenny laughs while the rest shake their heads at your not-so-funny joke but they still chuckle. You take a seat between Squints and Kenny which they gladly let you.

“I thought you couldn’t come because of your violin practice?” Squints asks.

“Yeah but Benny convinced me to come since I was one second away from going crazy. Plus I missed you guys so much.” You answer honestly and wrap an arm around Squints and Kenny while smiling at the rest.

The boys all groan unamused and disgusted by your cheesiness. It makes you laugh. They can act as disgusted as they want but you know deep down they love your cheesiness, just like they love you.

Benny, Smalls and Ham finally arrive and you and the rest of the boys meet them halfway. You greet Ham and Smalls, smiling when Smalls and Ham are happy that you finally came to the Sandlot.

You glance over to Benny and find him already looking at you with that bright smile. You instantly match it, finding it hard not to.

“You ready to play some ball?” Benny asks with a teasing tone.

“Or did you forget already after missing so many games.” Bertram teases and the boys instigate it.

You scoff playfully and smirk. “You wish, stick boy. You’re just jealous that I’m still better than you even when I miss a couple of days.”

“In your dreams, crazy girl.”

“You’re right. Even in my dreams, I’m better than you.” You laugh and Bertram joins in a second later.

The teasing dies out as Benny hands you his bat and everyone gets into positions. Kenny throws his heater and you hit just right, sending the ball across the field. A grin forms on your lips and you run the bases, proving to the boys you still got it even when you miss days. And the grin grows when Benny cheers for you.

You spent the rest of the day having fun with the boys, forgetting about violin practice, the performance and everything else.

Just like Benny said.

“Something like that,” Lelia said.

In truth, her hands just naturally did that. But she wasn’t going to complain. She focused less on hand stretches and more on grip strength in an attempt to keep all of her ligaments functioning properly—while secretly hoping nothing blew out beyond repair.
