In October 2020, a van-sized robotic spacecraft briefly touched down on the surface of Bennu, a 525-metre-wide asteroid 320 million kilometres from Earth. As part of NASA's OSIRIS-REx mission, the spacecraft not only spent two years orbiting and imaging the asteroid, it also collected a precious sample of dust and small rocks from Bennu's rubbly surface. Since then, an international team of scientists – of which we are members – have been busy studying the roughly 120 grams of material collected from Bennu. Our findings are revealed in two new papers published in Nature and Nature Astronomy today. They indicate that water may have once been present on Bennu's parent body, and offer new insights into the chemistry of the early Solar System.

Research alert! Two new studies out this week find that rock and dust samples retrieved by NASA from the asteroid Bennu in 2023 contain some of the building blocks for life on our planet. What’s more? There’s evidence of underground pools of saltwater that might have served as the “broth” for these compounds to interact and combine.
The studies, published in Nature Astronomy and Nature, are the first in-depth analyses of the minerals and molecules on Bennu, a remnant of a larger celestial body that formed about 4.5 billion years ago. The findings indicate that asteroids like Bennu may have seeded early Earth with the raw ingredients that led to the emergence of life. Read more in our latest blog post.

The team struggled to decide where on the asteroid to sample. The potential targets had to be both scientifically promising and safe enough for the spacecraft to visit. Looking at two-dimensional photographs of the asteroid taken by the onboard cameras didn’t provide them with enough information about each location. So, they called in a ringer—famed Queen guitarist Brian May. In addition to shredding guitars, selling out stadiums across the world, and being knighted by the King of England, May is a trained astrophysicist. May’s focus is stereoscopy—the practice of combining two flat images to make a 3D image. May and his colleague Claudia Manzoni melded multiple images of Bennu taken at slightly different angles to transform the asteroid into an eye-popping 3D object. Potential sampling sites looked flat in regular images, “but then Brian would send the stereo, and you’re like, ‘Woah, look at that, that’s crazy—we could never get into there,’” says Lauretta.
That time Queen guitarist and astrophysicist Brian May saved the Bennu asteroid mission.

An article published in the journal "Meteoritics & Planetary Science" reports the results of the preliminary analysis of the samples of material from asteroid Bennu brought back to Earth by NASA's OSIRIS-REx space probe. A team of researchers conducted morphological and chemical analyzes of the samples, finding a lot of carbon and nitrogen together with organic compounds, all very important components for life forms of the Earth's type.

Before and After Spacecraft Touchdown on Bennu
Captured on Oct. 20 during the OSIRIS-REx mission’s Touch-And-Go (TAG) sample collection event, this series of 2 images shows the SamCam imager’s field of view at the moment before and after the NASA spacecraft touched down on asteroid Bennu’s surface. The sampling event brought the spacecraft all the way down to sample site Nightingale, and the team on Earth received confirmation of successful touchdown at 6:08 pm EDT. Preliminary data show the sampling head touched Bennu’s surface for approximately 6 seconds, after which the spacecraft performed a back-away burn.

Amidst The Horrors, exciting good news continues to trickle in from elsewhere in the cosmos. Rock samples from the asteroid Bennu reveal that it formed in a briny environment broadly comparable to those known on Earth, and that it contains all five of the bases that comprise nucleic acids. It also contains the mineral hydroxyapatite, which can be involved in chemical reactions that produce the sugar ribose, which is a key component of the nucleic acids, DNA and RNA. It also contains salts that can catalyze the formation of nucleosides, which consist of a nucleobase plus sugar, and are the building blocks of DNA and RNA.
The study shows that all the ingredients for life as we know it are present in the Bennu samples, and further experiments could show whether not life could have formed under the chemical conditions on Bennu’s parent body.
Finally, and most excitingly, the paper notes that similar briny conditions are present on Ceres, an asteroid or dwarf planet in our solar system, and on Saturn’s moon Enceladus. Plumes from a briny ocean that contain chemical signatures possibly associated with life are spurting from cracks in Enceladus’ frozen surface, and missions are planned to study these plumes in greater detail.
The Bennu results suggest that the conditions necessary for life may have been common throughout the solar system for billions of years, and that Earth may not be the only planet on which life burst into existence.

Unleashing the black flames of anger, here's Bennu Kagaho for the SSZ Fanzine Underworld, @saintseiya-zone, this time focused on the warriors of Hades. It was a fun challenge, and I feel like I did learn a thing or two in the process. And while I don't really like most of the Specters and they aren't my favourite Saint Seiya army as a whole, I was glad to be able to pick Kagaho, because he's among those I like the most. Felt a bit refreshing to do something different from my usual stuff. Kinda wished I had the time and energy for a second entry, but oh well. Better do one thing good instead of two and rushing them, with bad results, or not get one or both done in time.

I think this version of Ra is final. Something better does not come to mind, and the scenario where this character is involved is not detailed enough to draw his most frequent emotions for an approximate depiction of his character. So I'll leave the concept in full growth for now.
Ra is the Egyptian god of the sun. The oldest god, both in terms of experience and age, among other Egyptian gods. Ra is the head who organized and united the gods of small communities into one state (this is already part of my setting. In the original, he literally created the main gods out of nothing and was their biological father. That is, they did not exist before him). It is after unification that they will rebuild the first city of Egypt, which will be called Memphis.
This association of Egyptian gods, which was initiated by Ra, will be called the Egyptian Aegis in the plot (if we take the Greek figure for the number of Aegis participants as the basis for the name, it does not sound as good as the Ennead). And the name of the Ennead does not fit - there are more than 9 members of the union😅
The Aegis will include the following gods: the couple Shu and Tefnut and their children Geb and Nut (at the time of unification, they really were not adults yet)- they will be the rulers of a community that concentrates on agriculture, has a lot of resources, but has a problem with self defense - there is no army and are not particularly scientifically developed; a couple of Tota and Maat - who will be the rulers of a scientifically developed community, but having a problem with self-defense and resources; Ra himself is the head of a community that has no problems with self-defense, but in need of resources; and the last Bastet/Sekhmet is represented by one character, whom, for simplicity, I will call by one name Khatmet.
Hatmet became a part of the Aegis of the very last. According to the idea, she will be the ruler of a community of robbers, like a caravan, who will not extract resources, but live by plundering other communities. When Khatmet, still being Sekhmet, attacks with his army the united communities of the above-mentioned gods, it is Ra who will come up with the idea of a deception for Sekhmet.
They will "serve" beer to her under the guise of blood, which will cause Sekhmet to fall asleep and Bastet, her second personality, will wake up instead of her, who will agree to join the Aegis alliance. This is a reworking of the original myth about the Sekhmet massacre against people who were plotting against Ra. Since Hatmet will be the youngest part of the Aegis, after Nut and Geb, then it needs to be explained somehow - how before the "creation" of the fruits of youth by Geb, the same ambrosia, Hatmet remained so young. According to the plot, the Horus will like her, so she should not be too "age-related"😅
As soon as I finish with the final concept of Geb, I will describe how this "ambrosia" will work. Of course, in the comic, it would be logical to give this information to the young Horus by other gods, who will only become part of the Aegis, as the heir of Osiris.

What if I made after island Ryder suffer just a little bit more? For fun. ^_^
Let’s just say I use @todds-diary Bennu for instance if that’s alright- also we’re disregarding the fact that Bennu WENT TO WAR 🔥🔥🔥
Also there’s survivors guilt so if that’s too much for you, you don’t have to read, just a warning-
Scenario:
Bennu is the family friend of the Emersons, he’s been there for Ryder pretty much since he was born, but he stops interacting as much with him because he had Simon, and Ryder doesn’t understand why Bennu stopped interacting with him, until he meets Simon on the island.
“Oh, cool! Mr. Bennu had a kid, that makes sense. Kids take up time.”
And then Simon dies.
Ryder returns from the island with severe survivor’s guilt, for every child that died or was extremely traumatized because he couldn’t stop the events from happening.
One random day, Bennu decides to show up at the Emerson’s door. Ryder immediately starts breaking down. Bennu tries comforting him, but it takes a while for Ryder to calm down.
“I’m sorry- I’m so sorry- I couldn’t help him- I couldn’t save him- I tried so hard…I tried to tell him that he was going to be okay- I-“
“There was nothing you could’ve done to save him, Ryder. He—“
“I held your dying child in my arms- He was crying, begging me to not let go of him! I couldn’t take it- I watched him take his last breath before he drifted off- I’m sorry-“
Ok that’s it that’s all I came up with sorry guys
Am I drawing this? Probably not- I just wanted to write it down in case I ever do ^_^”
Also this isn’t really canon
But Ryder WOULD profusely apologize to the caretakers of Simon, Piggy, Mulberry, Sloth, and (begrudgingly) Greed
Greed’s would probably be “Yeah sorry your dumbass son died he was a prick”
Actually Ryder wouldn’t even talk to Sloth’s parents, he’ll just break down immediately upon seeing them and have to leave
Sloth and Simon are the ones that make Ryder break down the worst (and most)
The S’s, if you will.
@lord-of-the-bundle-of-sticks owns Sloth and Greed btw
