Rafael stared at the bandaged thumb that still ached every time he moved it wrong. His jaw tightened as he thought about their imprisonment; the freezing air biting at his skin, the burning fangs under his skin, the metallic stink of blood, and the sound of Nick's agonised howling on the other side of the door, the beast's heavy claws thrashing against it with the one intent to rip them apart. It had been two weeks, but it might as well have been yesterday.

"Me too." Rafael let the words sit in the air for a moment, then, without thinking, he pulled the hunter into a firm embrace. "Every second of it." He didn't let go of Ben, feeling as though he needed to provide a safe space, like the big brother that he was, and he had just adopted a stray little brother. His throat tightened, but he pushed through it. "You were good in there, though. You're a good man, Ben. And you care about Nico, I can see that now." He exhaled sharply through his nose, almost a laugh. "Please look after each other. You two deserve to be happy... and safe."

Nick tried so hard to focus on Ben's voice, but it got quieter and quieter as he was drawn further away from consciousness. The kiss to his forehead but a ghost of a touch, a last reminder to fling himself away from his lover, away from Rafa too, as he had ultimately lost his battle against the lunar substitute triggering his transformation.

His piercing scream made Rafael's blood run cold. He turned his head just in time, to watch Nick's spine convulse violently, each vertebra shifting beneath his skin like something trying to claw its way out. His back arched at a horrifying angle, bones cracking with a sound that made Rafa flinch, but he couldn't tear his eyes away. Nick's face began to warp; his jaw lengthening, teeth growing unnaturally sharp as his skull distorted with painful, jerking movements. Fur burst through his skin in uneven patches, rippling across his body as his muscles seemed to fight themselves. Groans grew into agonised roars, a sound that tore through Rafael as he stood helpless, watching his little brother writhe and twist in unbearable pain.

He would've still stood there, frozen, if Ben hadn't taken the key and urged him to come outside. As they hurried towards the door, the beast lunged itself against a wall in desperation and pain, but quickly gaining clarity. The clarity of a predator. There was the tiniest heartbeat that Rafael looked through the ajar door straight into the wolf's eyes. Nick was gone. And whatever had taken his place was jumping at them, snarling, lusting for blood - but the door closed just in time.

"Sinto muito, Nico. Eu deveria ter te protegido. Falhei com você," Rafael whispered, palm of his good hand pressed against the door. To the sound of the beast on the other side going on a rampage, Rafa turned to face Ben and without wasting a beat, he pulled the other into his embrace, hand running soothingly over his back. They were both mourning Nick's state, having both survived the torture of the true monster, and Rafael's heart had decided to adopt the hunter as a third brother, someone he could look after, so he wouldn't have to deal with his own emotions. "Thank you, Ben. For getting us out... for how beautifully you treat my brother. He's going to be alright in there, yeah? We'll wait here and he's going to be alright. Can you promise me that?"

The sight of Nick struggling with this, fighting the change that was slowly beginning to take hold, it broke Ben's heart and he could no longer fight the tears that were beginning to fall. His entire body was trembling, both from the cold and from the fear of watching his love in so much pain.

"I told you, Nick... I am never harming you. Ever." he snapped, eyes focusing on Nick's as he avoided looking at the way his partner's body was changing. He had barely seen this last time, barely registered what was happening before he had been attacked. Now, he had all the time in the world to focus on the agonising change that was happening. He felt Rafael beside him once more, seeing him working on the screws to free Ben's ankle, and all he could do was hope that this man would be ok after seeing his brother going through this. When the sound of the tiny screws hitting the floor finally sounded, Ben felt his body become free and he leaned in to kiss Nick's forehead.

"I'm not leaving you.... But-" He trailed off, glancing to the door. "We'll be right outside, ok? I love you, mi amor." With that, he moved, the chain attached to his ankle trailing behind him as he took the key from Rafael, quickly unlocking the door and shoving the other man through. Only once it was shut behind them did he drop the key, his heart pounding as he leaned against the metal, body beginning to shake with sobs.

Absolutely not. Hate the sleeves. Otherwise it would be fine. but the sleeves... They are not floppy, they are tight around my wrists. I do not like tight around my wrist sleeves

Open: Rafael doesn't believe in the supernatural. But one fateful encounter is about to change that. Luckily his younger brother Nick is somewhat an expert in the field himself. He should've booked a taxi. How they made it out of the airport parking lot without adding more dents to the already battered car was a complete mystery to Rafael; But it wasn't his little brother's reckless driving style that put the journalist on edge, it was Nick's urge to bring him up to date like he'd been in cryo-sleep for the past year or longer. Nick wasn't wrong: he needed the briefing. Keeping in touch wasn't exactly Rafael's strong suit. And by the time they arrived at the café, the older da Silva sibling knew everything there was about their father's health back home, his ex-wife's new flame and Nick's private life. Everything? Not quite, as Nick conveniently left out his full moon tribulations.

The two brothers got out of the car with Nick taking the lead, while his brother followed uttering a defeated sigh. After hours and hours on a plane, the last thing he needed was sitting in an overcrowded café. But just as he thought he could weasel out of this predicament seeing there were no unoccupied tables left, Nick crushed his hopes with a simple question:

"Hi. Are those seats taken?"

Rafael shook the hand that was offered to him, without paying much attention to the man attached to it. He was far too worried to avert his gaze from his little brother. Something was off, he could tell. "Yeah," he murmured, "Next time without kidnapping?" Hiding his suspicion behind a nonchalant smile and a joke, the journalist gave Ben's hand one final strong squeeze before he released him, briefly making eye contact, then he turned to Nick once more:

"Vá com ele. Sei que quer ir. And before you say anything; after a thirteen hour flight I'm looking forward to a little peace and quiet. I'll get a taxi and pretend I don't speak English, so I won't even have to engage in small talk." Nick chuckled, a little guiltily for having lured Rafael here, but even more for how their meeting had to end so abruptly. Grateful for his brother's understanding, he wrapped his arms around Rafael, who insisted: "Eu amo você, irmãozinho. Eu pago. Agora vá."

A relieved 'I love you too' on his lips, the younger brother followed after his partner out of the café into the parking lot. "You know I'm not going to let you go alone, right?" He had his arm draped around Ben's shoulders. "If it's that bad, I want to help. Don't try to change my mind."

Ben took a breath, staring at a spot on the floor as he listened to Valentine practically gloating from knowledge that he had hit a nerve. More than that, he had not just hit a nerve, he had annihilated it entirely. Just a few words had been enough to bring the normally stoic hunter to his knees, memories of his lost child causing him to tremble slightly. The fact that this monster knew about Tomas, that he knew what had happened in Ben's past enough to taunt him with it, made him feel sick, and there was a moment where he had to simply close his eyes to calm himself down. But then the bang came from the window and the hunter jumped, turning to see Rafael outside.

Once Valentine was gone, he finally released his fists and his hands began to shake. Nick's closeness was appreciated and Ben leaned into the embrace, needing the comfort that only his partner could provide. "No sé... I- I have no idea. But I have to stop this thing. I can't risk it, he could be lying but if he's telling the truth... This is bad, amor." He fell silent again when Rafael entered, sitting upright and trying to act casual.

"Nothing exciting. But I'm really sorry, I'm going to have to cut our lunch a bit short. I've had a call about an emergency and unfortunately it can't wait." Ben glanced towards Nick before back to Rafael, offering him a hand. "It was a pleasure to meet you, I look forward to spending more time with you in the future."
