rewatching the Ben Horne Morphs Into Robert E Lee subplot made me angry on laura's behalf all over again. when laura was having a crisis, when she was being abused and assaulted and terrorized daily, the town acted like it wasn't happening. meanwhile when ben goes through a crisis people literally re-structure reality to help him through it. they put on a whole play and dress up in costumes and do a civil war reenactment just to make the experience of LOSING PROPERTY a bit easier on him. the town bends over backwards to validate ben's pain in the same way it bent over backwards to hide laura's. i am going to explode

first time twin peaks watchthrough thoughts: ben and jerry are almost so fun. they’re literally called ben and jerry. unfortunate that they’re clearly very evil upon immediate introduction

Man I hate it when people mischaracterize Audrey as some snobby, bratty, boy-obsessed girl. She cares so much about the people around her, even when they don’t care about her, to the point where she eventually forgives her dad for treating her (and others) terribly all her life. She wasn’t close friends with Laura, sure, but I think she wanted to help her somehow, and when she couldn’t help her in life, she helps find her killer at great personal risk to herself. I think Audrey has been alone most of her life, and when she gets the chance to prove her worth through others, she does it. Not to impress a guy, but to build her own self-worth.
I also think if Ben Horne didn’t change as a person, we would have seen Audrey spiraling from the trauma she endured in season 2. And I think that’s where we find her in season 3– she wants to be herself again. Dancing. Before everything bad. But she can’t go back. What’s done is done. And so she stares at herself in the mirror, alone again, but this time with a weight that wasn’t always there. She doesn’t know where she is, but does it even matter to her at this point?

The way people talk about Audrey and Laura and how they deal with their shitty fathers and the stuff they go thorugh, while also claiming to defend them from their evil writers made me realize a lot of them simply don't understand how abuse victims process things, and how they all process things differently.
In the letter Audrey wrote to her father, yes she says she loves him, but she's also standing against everything he stood for in his life and everything he did. She's not just doing it because she's worried about the environment, she's also doing it for Laura and all the other girls he hurt and it was going to be the first step in a series of things Audrey was going to do to bring her father to justice. She's still a teen girl who got abused and neglected by her family and who still cared about her father when he had his mental breakdown because she cares! She still dislikes him, she still rebels against him because that's what Audrey always did! She just wanted the attention she never got from him, the love he gave to Laura instead of her.
Laura loved Leland, and she still hated him, she still wanted him to leave her alone. She still did everything she could to not be in her house even if it meant harming herself and others while also trying to help people because that's what she loves doing the most, because barely anyone could do that to her (Except for Annie, Cooper and Donna). She was in an abusive, incestuous relationship and her father was 100% at fault for what he did to her. Laura still cared, she's in an abusive relationship and she's constantly trying to deal with these feelings and problems just like Audrey. Both of these girls are still girls who are going through situations of child abuse and domestic abuse and dealing with it in different ways.
This doesn't justify Ben or Leland, since they're still horrible men who harmed their daughters in different ways. This just shows that both Audrey and Laura are abuse victims and the way they act is different but at the same time, it isn't. They're just two super lonely, abused girls who never got the attention and support they needed and because of it. And almost no one bothered to help them yet they still try to do good because they care about others and because they do not want to be part of those spaces anymore.
Don't get me wrong, Mark and David aren't perfect in the writing of these two girls but it's not bad either, and in fact Fire Walk With Me AND the show made many women and abuse victims come to terms with what they went through, and have thanked them for making both of these pieces of film and tv.
