Bell Cranel, I never thought I'd be feeling this strongly about you or your series when i dropped it during the spin off season in 2017, but here I am feeling like this is one of the rawest displays of heroism in anime. And it's specifically because you're in the middle of an identity crisis, you're defying your heroes, you're scared and shaking, you don't know how this is going to turn out AND YET you did it anyways because you couldn't accept anything else, even at your lowest.

Vinland Saga Talent vs. Skill

Now… rubs hands I just wanted to say, Thorkell and especially Askeladd are the only ones that I personally see as people with "talent." Thorkell has the strength, height, and all the genes to be a great warrior. Askeladd displayed real talent against his father with his fighting skill. I'd wager that it wasn't just adrenaline from how calculated Askeladd was.

The only reason why I believe that Askeladd has more talent is because Thorkell (plus the Jomsvikings) was half talent and half skill They were most likely rich. Back then, being rich meant you had plenty of time to build your skills up. You learn martial arts (like Askeladd did) instead of working on farms or being merchant like most others, you have the best gear instead of plain tunics and a simple helmet, and a lot of food to bulk up your strength.

In my eyes, Thorfinn was hardwork. He didn't have the best gear by a long shot, and had to obtain his own food. Yulva not only inherited Thor's strength, she was also not malnourished like Thorfinn was. He had to develop his own style for battle and had plenty of time which is how he got so good in the first place. I'd say he built up a lot more strength during the slave arc instead. And lastly, many authors make their MC weak, or without talent so their journey is more interesting and hype. (Naruto, Sakura, Lee, Noel Stollen, Bell Cranel can be debated, Takemichi Hanagaki, Midoriya, White Room Students in general and others that aren't listed here).
