Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to the working week! Although, for those of you in the NHS, welcome to just another day!

Happy belated birthday to the awesome Rickardo Reid, the only child prodigy I know. Musician, writer, producer and amazing cook too! So looking forward to celebrating Mr. Reid’s birthday properly! So looking forward to celebrating everybody’s birthday properly! I need a bar with a comfy chair so I can drink, sleep, wake up and carry on drinking! My friend Nicky Holloway is already making elaborate plans for post-lockdown. Not an all-dayer, an all-nighter or even a weekender! He’s talking a leave your clothes at the door full-on orgy! I’m hoping for guest list?

We are fast approaching Valentine’s Day and the complex issue of what to buy your loved one (or the person you’ve living with.) I have been wracking my brains. There’s not much in there, so I wracked the potting shed instead! I said to The Trouble, “I’ve thought of a great Valentine’s Day gift? How about if I leave you alone and promise not to talk to you for an entire 24-hour period?” “Nah!” she said, “that’s what you gave me last year and you still insisted on talking to me!”

So, what to do? I buy flowers often, so that’s not going to work. I can’t buy her alcohol; I think we’ve both drunk enough during lockdown (in fact, we’ve drunk enough to sink a battleship!) I can’t buy her jewellery; she makes better stuff than I could buy! No point in renting some getaway hotel rooms because Christ knows when we’re coming out of lockdown! You can’t offer rampant rumpy pumpy as a Valentine’s Day gift because your contract states you need to deliver that on a very regular basis! Posh chocolates are no good as she doesn’t really have a sweet tooth. I’m thinking of leaving her alone and not talking to her for TWO days! That should make her happy?

After a few stressful months of crazy work schedules for the both of us, I managed to talk my boyfriend into taking the time to do something for ourselves. We booked a night away in Niagara Falls both as a slightly belated Valentine’s day gift and mini vacation for us to take some time and relax. We spent the day on a small road trip and filled the evening with a dinner out, a refreshing swim and finally some entertainment at the casino. Overall, it was a great mini getaway that gave us time to catch up, relax and reconnect. Today’s random act of kindness: taking time for yourself and your relationship.

The busy lifestyle of today’s society can make it hard to find time for everything in a day, and sometimes some things get pushed aside for “later”. It’s still important to make time for those things as well, everything requires balance. Most importantly too it’s necessary to take time for yourself, a rush for everything else while ignoring your own needs will only leave you burned out. Even if it’s a quiet evening that your require once in awhile, take it for yourself and your own well being.
