I read through the entire Beetlejuice x Lydia tag. I can't believe this movie made me ship them. lol

But Beets is adorable??? He's literally so in love with her. Like he keeps her picture FRAMED on his desk?? Hello?! For YEARS! And he sings to her that he'll wait for her!! And he tells her daughter she can call him dad. And that entire wedding sequence. The dance! In the air! That was all so sweet? Ok he did some creepy things to her like the baby and stuff lmao. But he's a creepy nasty one, does't mean he doesn't truly love her in his own weird little way. And guess what? His love was more pure and genuine than the "love" the man she almost married "had" for her. I just. I ship these two now.

Okay huge spoilers for beetlejuice beetlejuice

When it finished I was like “yeah pretty mediocre I probably wouldn’t watch it again” but when I kept thinking it was just….. what was the point????

I see on here people really liking it and of course that is okay maybe I’m thinking about it too hard but I just couldn’t enjoy it unfortunately.

Dolores was just a waste and anything tied to her was as well, even though I liked Willem Dafoe and Danny Davitos characters, in the end neither served a purpose. Like yeah her intro was cool but she made no impact on me or the plot. Honestly take her and everything she affected out of it and you would lose nothing. Even beetlejuice didn’t feel affected when she turned up. And she just… dies…. that’s it… no fight no real confrontation nothing she appears at a wedding, which also didn’t have a purpose other then setting up a DIFFERENT wedding, to just kill Dolores just immediately. She was a nothing character.

Plus genuinely who asked for a beetlejuice backstory???? Like vague hints and jokes are fine but I thought part of his charm was he was an off putting guy who did what he did because he thought it was fun and because he was selfish and no one knew fucking why??? Adding Dolores removes that when the movie would have worked better if it just kept that motivation from the 1st movie, him just wanting to become mortal so he has to marry Lydia. Also he felt weaker??? Like he turned himself into a carnival and a snake hybrid (which actually appeared in a nightmare I had recently which really scared me so it to me was actually really scary even if it was never planned to be) and turned everyone into basically a game shows contenders. He controlled the situation but I didn’t feel that over powering presence that he once had. Plus the singing??? Like what??? That’s the Maitlands thing, not his, that was THEIR scare. A scare made by people from a suburban and privileged life not a man who’s been dead for hundreds of years who’s murdered people and (originally hinted) as someone who lived through the plague??? And that scene just draggggggeeeddd like I get it it’s a callback to the original. I was hoping he would do a full musical number, it would still be a callback to the original but expands on it and just shows how much more powerfu he actually isl. He was obviously the best part and I was really worried they’d turn him into a hero but they didn’t and I’m very happy with that, he still did what he did for his own selfish desires.

Lydia also felt wrong, she wasn’t the strange and unusual goth girl, she felt like Joyce Byers, paranoid and scared. And Delia was dramatic but not this dramatic like come on. Astrid I felt nothing for, I felt like they should’ve done what the did in the musical and have it so she never finds her dad but appreciates who she has in her life and accepts that he’s gone. Rory I felt they pulled a twist out of him for whatever reason, he did seem like a well meaning guy who just could never read the room.

Also I thought the point of the afterlife was that that’s all anyone gets??? Why does every other afterlife exist too??? They just ruins what made the original interesting cause all they had was this boring realm that no one wanted to be in but couldn’t leave so they tried to make the best out of it. And also when we did see the original it felt lifeless but not in the fun way it just felt like there was no creativity just EXPAND ON WHAT YOU HAD

(This next paragraph talks about suicide so just skip to the next one if that is upsetting which is completely understandable, the point of this one is the musical looked at the original film and delved into details to add more to different characters and the world)

Like the musical had that pageant queen (who didn’t show up in this?? Like that wasn’t the same person???) and it genuinely seemed like they said “She was a pageant queen but she killed herself and now works a crap job for forever, that must suck and she and most other dead souls regret what they did, wether it was personal or accidental, which caused them to die” and made a whole song out of it and gave her so much character.

So just why didn’t they do it here??? Why didn’t they look at what they were given and made more out of it. The soul train just contradicted what was in the original.

Plus I just didn’t think it was very funny, buts that just my personal opinion.

I thought the designs for the dead were great and the “memorial to bob” was pretty funny but overall I just didn’t like it. 3/10.

"you and me.. we really were no meant to be. too vengeful, you know? too bitter? something like that?" and yet, being good was exhausting and he could feel the pull towards her and towards wanting to continue as he had gone on. couldn't he? something like that. "long time ago, it's-" taking a breath. "can anyone blame me for wanting to be.. you know.. different? for once?" giving in? almost. @demongemz

“Don’t I? My love, I found this little outfit on my way to search for you, so remiss of our wedding night don’t you think? You speak so cruelly to me Beetle, No one else looked your way no one else loved that devious mind of yours before I came along…You proved yourself my match during our wedding night, no man ever attempted to get vengeful with me like you did.” Delores for her part had only deepened her love for him, she screamed how his soul belonged to her but in truth she wanted him, his darkness had been one of the only things that had matched her in so long. That human woman he sought to keep was a ridiculous notion; she didn’t even care for him the way she did, always turning her nose at her Beetle and it burned her to the core to think he’d keep choosing her over his wife. “ No my love you will always be mine, no matter what that woman whispers in your ear she is only using you for her purposes, twice you attempted to steal her away and both times she chose someone else, someone who will never be you.” She moved closer using her body to further pin against her lover knowing he couldn’t fight her forever he was nothing if not a creature of habit. “Why would I ever let you go? You’re mine and I won't let anyone else have you, You married me and bested me no one will ever love you the way I do” she mused, allowing her hand to trace his cheek moving down his jaw. “She doesn't love you, she’ll use you time and time again giving her love to anyone but you, are you so taken with someone who denies you a simple touch or kiss?” @fcrafcrtnight

God that fucking reminded of the beetlejuice fandom and how all the older beeetlejuice fans didn’t want the musical version of it to be tagged as beetlejuice. They just wanted the musical version to remain in the beetlejuice musical tags and would kick and scream if it wasn’t and I was sitting there like omfg blacklist the goddamn musical tag because even though it’s a separate adaptation it’s still beetlejuice.

Even they did the whole thing of “The musical doesn’t count. The musical is a mockery of the source material. It’s a different story with different characters blah blah.” But the cartoon version of the movie was completely fine for them.

I know I totally just posted about this in another post, but I thought it deserves its own post, since it was at the end and it's a pretty long post.

Here it goes. I am getting a vibe that the WB wants us to see Betelgeuse, Lydia, and Astrid as a family.

Not only are they front and center on the DVD cover, instead of them having something like a big picture of Betelgeuse front and center and the Deetz women next to him or below him, with the rest of the cast around, or something like that; a choice was made to have Betelgeuse, Lydia, and Astrid together front and center, separate from the others, as we've all seen now. Then there is this promotional TikTok they put out, hinting at Lydia and Betelgeuse as part of Astrid's "strange family". Lydia is her mom, but why is Betelgeuse included as a part of her family?

So you see? Maybe it's my shipping goggles, so please don't take this for a fact, but with the talk about Tim Burton having official meetings with the WB about Beetlejuice 3, and now seeing these little details, it kinda makes me go "hmm 👀".

Tell me, do you get this vibe as well or am I imagining things? 😂 I feel like they're leading us to see these three as a family or as a unit. My hope is that they will take Beetlejuice 3 in the direction of establishing them as a family by the end. Of course, it might be wishful thinking. But I have a vibe, ok? A vibe. 👀
