A lot of people talk about that phone call in Disco Elysium. But I don't see many people mentioning the quiet horror that can occur before that.

One of our "prank calls" leads us to a man named Girard. If we try to get his wife on the phone, for reasons we may not understand at the time, it seems like just a bit of tomfoolery.

Then, if we push just a little too far, this happens.

Oh. Okay. We're serious. I mean, we're not, but we sound serious. We're making a demand. One we don't even know why we're making.

He gets his wife. We've now involved a third person. Then—wait. A shuffle of feet. They have children.

There's fear. We hear it. Anger too. This is no longer a prank call between two lonely guys. This is a family affair. And we are not part of the family.

She is begging for mercy. She is begging for help. He is shouting at her, and we are just standing here and listening.

We are destroying their marriage. We are destroying their furniture. We are destroying a woman.

All for a joke.

We can try to stop it. We can say we were joking. We can say we're a cop. We can also say nothing.

It doesn't matter. It always ends the same way.

By which I mean... it does not end well. It will never, ever end well. Not for her. And not for the child either.

This was supposed to be a joke. A prank. A little play-acting. And instead, it turns to this. Utter destruction.

We projected our issues with our wife onto someone else, and things spiraled out of control. Now what? Now what is there to do? How are we supposed to fix this?

Something about how you don't find it son, you make it. And they did. Both of them made this.
