Possibly it's because I've been listening to it on repeat for two days straight now but I'm increasingly convinced that the narrator of bat out of hell by meat loaf is trapped in a time loop

Somebody told me so, somebody told me now I know Every night in my prayer, I'll be praying that the Good boys go to heaven, but the bad boys go everywhere Every time I try and dream you, I can't believe how hard it's been to Conjure up your face and trace your body in the air All the seconds go on forever, but the thirds and fourth ones are even better Everytime I do it just a little bit longer Everytime I dream, it's just a little bit stronger than real life
This is a Bat out of Hell the Musical inspired piece. The musical is a loose retelling of Peter Pan, set in post-apocalyptic Manhattan (now named 'Obsidian'), and follows Strat, the forever young leader of 'The Lost' who has fallen in love with Raven, daughter of Falco, the tyrannical ruler of Obsidian. So I put Steve as Raven, going against his fathers wishes and power over Hawkins. And Eddie is Strat, leader of the Hellfire Club XD

The saying "Like a bat outta hell" is banned on the Watchtower. Everyone knows that Batman and his Cauldron of Birds would sooner rule Hell than flee it. The phrase is not, however, banned in Gotham. In fact, it gets frequent use within the city limits for the same reason that it's banned on the Watchtower

Bruce doesn’t run with the track lights on. Well, he does gallop better than during the day, but the breathless speed and trust are gone. He lags when he should pick up the pace and Dick keeps having to nudge him with his heels.
Racing in the dark is something special for the stallion and his rider. Well, what if the darkness is artificial?
Blindfolding a horse is stupid and counterproductive. Dick relies on Bruce’s trust as he ties fabric over the bay’s eyes and gives an experimental nudge of his heels.
Motion explodes between his legs. Bruce pounds down the dirt of the track, in tune and listening to the slightest of commands from Dick. It doesn’t matter that the track lights are on because the blindfold blocks it out.
Dick laughs as they take the first curve, curling into Bruce’s neck. Muscles contract and extend as he runs, breath snorting from his nostrils. He rains the bay in as they hit the first lap, trotting Bruce in a circle and then giving the signal for one of his fancy dressage side steps. Bruce does it all.
There’s a clapping from the rail and Dick twists to see Johnny watching. “I’ve never seen a horse run like that,” he says. “Like a bat out of hell. Shame no one else can get near him.”
“Yeah, he hates being around other horses.” Bruce is better about it, actually, but Dick is nervous enough to lie. Johnny’s a pretty good guy, but it doesn’t hurt to keep Bruce’s talents under wraps. No need for it to get back to Tony.
“You’ve got a way with Brucephalus,” Johnny says, stepping away from the rail. “You’re both crazy in the same way.” He waves and heads back toward the barn.
Dick canters the stallion around the track, blindfold still on, then slows to a trot and then a walk to cool down. Bruce can run with a blindfold on. He can run around other horses. He’ll run with Dick on his back. All of this needs to be kept a secret.
When Dick falls into bed that night, it’s with visions of races in his head. But how to keep the bay from being recognized?

How long? How long? How long? What part of my body hurts the most? What part of my soul is crying?

i sometimes think about how jim steinman's idea of the absolute height of melodramatic romance involved a made-up scene in which heathcliff exhumed cathy's corpse and "danced with it on the beach in the cold moonlight" and how everything meat loaf has said about his relationship with steinman has been TERRIFYINGLY reminiscient of cathy's "whatever souls are made of his and mine are the same" and "i AM heathcliff" and then i Wonder. i wonder.............

Dick Grayson Had a Horse
Dick tries to turn to look back at his parents, but there is no saving them. A moment of surprise and everything is crashing down. The tent burns. Flaming fabric comes free and drops toward the ring.
The stallion screams, bolting for the exit to the back of the circus. Dick tightens his thighs on instinct, curling over the horse’s neck. They burst out into the back lot and it takes a second for his eyes to adjust and blink free of tears.
It’s dark here after the bright shine of lights. Bruce squeals again, dancing at shadows and spinning uselessly. Horses can’t adjust their eyesight as quickly as humans can. The stallion is, for all intents, nearly blind. They are still too close to the burning tent. Too close to where Dick’s life has been smashed apart.
There’s no time to think, only to act.
Sucking in a deep breath he lets the numbness take over. He’ll deal with his parents–later. Right now, they need to run. Bruce needs Dick to help him.
He crouches over Bruce’s neck, shortens the reins further, and kicks his heels into the stallion’s barrel. Brucephalus jumps forward, hooves pounding the dirt.
Dick counts on the trust they’ve built over the last year to direct him through the chaos of the back lot, jumping a pile of equipment in their way. Despite the lack of vision, Bruce listens to every command.
The ground clears and the horse stretches his legs, eating the distance. He’s breathlessly fast–fast in a way that puts other horses to shame.
Racing stock, Papa said when they first got him. He doesn’t race well.
Brucephalus leaves the circus behind, pounding over the empty dirt and deeper into the night. Dick’s world burns behind him.
The horse runs on.
