Day two of Basingstoke and let me tell you how much I adore this beautiful, generous community.
I didnt have a photoshoot with Rhys, I couldn't afford it after buying autographs and a meet and greet with Vico. I was talking to my friend Tristan after his group photoshoot and he said he was going to sell his Rhys shoot because he couldn't make it tomorrow. I said I'd buy it but I already owed someone else for my Vico autograph that I forgot to buy and they sold me their spare. Tristan immediately says "what if I just gifted it to you?"
And that's how I ended up getting another photo with Rhys.
Later I was walking through the restaurant area to find my friends and I spotted someone from twitter who I had been looking for: "excuse me, are you Xenantis?"
Xenantis CARRIED the fandom on her back in 2022 with her fan posters. We had no merch and she came through with her incredible edits on redbubble. I knew she was attending as a fan of Stargate and I'd been determined to tell her how much of a fan I was. She was the sweetest, even when I got a little overwhelmed and went to find a pen at the restaurant to sign one of her posters that she had with her.
I also got to give Ren her birthday present, a custom Sylvanian Families Stede that Dylan put together for me. It's absolutely incredible how much detail he got into it!

Perranuthroe to Mullion
Crossing Praa Sands as the sun breaks through
The sand gives way to rolling hills
The harbour at Portleven and Natalie’s harbour walk
A tea break and a phone call with Noah
Sea on the left and freshwater lake on the right at Looe Bar
Gunwalloe Bay, last cove before Mullion
Fourteen miles later, so happy to be here tonight
The sun is breaking through the clouds this morning, hooray! The kind folks at the campsite discuss the merits of sticking to the path versus taking the road and shaving a couple of miles off the journey, whilst preparing my flask of tea and cooking me a croissant. Shaving the miles wins today. I have A Destination. An actual bed in a pub in Mullion 14 miles away.
I arrive in Praa Sands around 11. I learn that it is equally acceptable to rhyme it with Bay or Bra; the latter does not reveal that you come from Guildford. A coffee and a cake from the beach café is tempting but I plough on and arrive in Porthleven a couple of hours later.
Portleven is a delightful large harbour surrounded by cafés, restaurants, shops and galleries. My friend Natalie’s lovely hand-made book has won the Portleven Art Prize and I stop to admire it on show in the Net Loft gallery. An artist in the gallery tells me that he walked from his mother’s house in Basingstoke to his home in Bath after she died.
The going is gentler after Portleven, and truly stunning. The National Trust- protected pebble strip of Looe Bar runs between the sea and a fresh water lake for three miles. It’s almost empty. Eventually the beach gives way to gentle rolling hills and coves round Gunwalloe Bay to Mullion.
I sink a pint, eat hot food at the bar and marvel at the en suite and clean sheets. I’m a bit sun burned and blistered tonight, but all ok.

First experience with an Indian Restaurant.
I went to Basingstoke for the weekend to visit a friend for their wedding, the wedding was Indian and my friend showed me the beautiful red dress she was going to wear for her wedding and I was in love, however as you can imagine from someone who has only seen white dresses as a norm while growing up, it is hard to imagine a bride in red. However, I decided to Google Indian Brides and that helped a lot, it actually put a smile on my face to see such beautiful royal looking women, it actually made me curious to other cultures and I ended up going down a rabbit hole of googling Different country brides from Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Japan, Korean and Pakistan to Bangladesh, China and Turkey. It was actually very fun. Next my friend wanted me to get acquainted with the Indian Cuisine, so my next google search was for an Indian Restaurant near me. I’m from Mexican heritage so I can handle my spices, hence I loved all the Indian food, it was actually brilliant.
The food at the restaurant near me, Spicy Tadka, reminded me of Mexican food too because the flat bread called “Roti” which seems to be like a Tortilla. The Roti seems to be very universal, as it is not only consumed in Asian countries but also parts of Africa. The flatbread in India is kind of a funny subject as my friend explained to me. India has this thing about girls only being the perfect bride if they can make a “Gol Roti” which is a round Flatbread, by hand. It is similar to the Domestic bliss and Pin-up jokes for us, they make fun of it all the time.
In the 5 km radius this was the top restaurant to the search “Indian Restaurant near me and it proved its worth through the food. We had one vegetarian, one vegan Indian, one Mexican (me), two Muslims and three European (They cannot handle spice, it’s not even a stereotype at this point). The restaurant had something for everyone, they had vegan, vegetarian, meat, Halal and non-spicy choices and everyone enjoyed the food quite incredibly. Of course, it did take a while for the service but we chalked that up to the number of people and the big order.
The food was absolutely brilliant because I ate what everyone ate, it was so good. My Pakistani friend and Indian friend started to tell me about “Desi” stereotypes, “Desi” is the word that Indians, Pakistani, Bangladeshis and others use to describe themselves, native objects and things. Basically the word can be used with objects as well as habits while connecting the object and habit to something that I a norm for people from the heritage and areas. They told us that most of the inside jokes are the same and they are sometimes a little bit racist but never serious, like they inherently call White people “Gora” which means white and Black people “Kala” which means black, however for them it’s not racist until it’s translated into English because they think of it as a fact and not a degradation of any kind. The conversation god deep, funny, kooky and weird as we finished our meal and I didn’t even notice but I had finished every single bite on my plate which is not something I do normally.
