A few days ago I posted some art I did of the Rogues' siblings. This kid, Willard Wiggins (I mistakenly called him "Walter" in that post, probably because one of the "W"s in his dad's name stands for Walter), is the most obscure.
He's the son of W. W. Wiggins, and, since W. W. Wiggins was later revealed to be Captain Boomerang's biological father, that would make Willard here Digger's younger half-brother.
This was his only appearance. It's from Flash vol. 1 #311, which featured Colonel Computron trying to kill his dad and the Flash and Captain Boomerang trying to save his dad for different reasons (Digger, who didn't know that Wiggins was his father yet, felt that he owed Wiggins for setting him up as Captain Boomerang).
Also featuring Barry Allen (the Flash) out of costume, Police Chief Darryl Frye, and Barry's friend, Detective Frank Curtis.

Christopher Wiggins at The Advocate:
A Donald Trump-appointed federal judge in Alabama has threatened to jail several prominent LGBTQ+ civil rights lawyers involved in a long-running forum-shopping dispute. U.S. District Judge Liles Burke, who oversees Boe v. Marshall, a case challenging Alabama’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors, issued an unexpected order Friday, Chris Geidner of Law Dork reports. Burke demanded that several lawyers turn over a Q&A document that the lawyers argue is protected by attorney-client privilege by 5 p.m. Central on Monday or face monetary sanctions and potential imprisonment. Burke justified his order by suggesting that the document might fall under the crime-fraud exception. The Q&A document is a prepared set of questions and answers created by the attorneys in an earlier case against the ban, Walker v. Marshall, at the request of Barry Ragsdale, their counsel, to help prepare for a hearing before a three-judge panel investigating allegations of judge-shopping. This document was intended to outline potential questions that might be asked during the inquiry and to provide suggested responses, assisting the attorneys in their testimony.
“Even if the document otherwise enjoyed the protections of attorney-client privilege or the work-product doctrine, the document loses those protections if the crime-fraud exception applies,” Burke wrote in the order. He added that reviewing the document is necessary to determine its relevance to the case.
[...] In March, Reuters reported that a three-judge panel concluded that 11 attorneys at major LGBTQ+ rights groups and law firms engaged in impermissible judge-shopping to steer litigation challenging Alabama’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth away from a conservative judge. The panel’s report, unsealed by Burke, found that the lawyers “purposefully attempted to circumvent the random case assignment procedures” for the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama. The court found that the lawyers viewed Burke, a conservative judge, as a “bad draw” who likely would rule against them. Burke, however, did enjoin the law’s enforcement, though the 11th Circuit reinstated it in August.
In January, the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals allowed Alabama’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors to go into effect. The court lifted a lower court injunction against the 2022 law, which makes it a felony for physicians to prescribe hormones or puberty blockers to individuals under 19, according to the Alabama Reflector. Those convicted under the law could face up to 10 years in prison. The law also bans genital surgeries on minors, though physicians have said these surgeries do not happen in Alabama.
Judicial activism in action in Alabama.

Morphew
DENVER (KDVR) — An attorney for the Federal Bureau of Investigation has issued a motion to dismiss a case against two agents filed by Barry Morphew in 2023. Morphew filed a complaint against the district attorney and several other prosecutors in 2023, after claiming allegations of misconduct that led to his arrest in the case of his missing wife, Suzanne Morphew. According to a motion of dismissal document obtained by FOX31, Morphew sued FBI Special Agents Jonathan Grusing and Kenneth Harris. Morphew is seeking damages from the agents’ personal assets through the U.S. Supreme Court case Bivens v. Six Unknown Named Agents. In that case, the Supreme Court ruled that federal courts could award financial damages in cases where a person’s constitutional rights were violated by the FBI.*** Morphew files lawsuit against FBI agents According to the dismissal document, Morphew filed a lawsuit and asserted the following claims against Grusing and Harris: Count 1: Malicious prosecution and unlawful detention Count 2: Fabrication of evidence Count 3: Franks claim Count 4: Conspiracy Count 6: Failure to intervene Count 7: Reckless investigation Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney Brian M. Boynton filed the motion to dismiss on Jan. 16 https://kdvr.com/news/local/attorney-wants-barry-morphews-case-against-fbi-agents-dismissed/

Seymour went to the wrong house
A 19-year-old man pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder for starting a house fire that killed five people in Denver’s Green Valley Ranch neighborhood more than three years ago. Gavin Seymour pleaded guilty in the Aug. 5, 2020, fire that killed five Senegalese family members in a home on Truckee Street. He faces between 16 and 40 years in prison on the single count of second-degree murder. Dozens of other charges against him will be dismissed as part of the plea agreement. Seymour and two other teenagers — Kevin Bui and Dillon Siebert — were accused of intentionally setting the house fire in the middle of the night. Djibril Diol, 29; Adja Diol, 23; Khadija Diol, 2; Hassan Diol, 25; and 6-month-old Hawa Baye were killed in the blaze, Shelly Bradbury reports. https://www.denverpost.com/2024/01/19/gavin-seymour-guilty-green-valley-ranch-arson/

Ouray Plaindealer newspapers stolen on day it publishes story with allegations of rape at police chief’s house
Hours after the Ouray County Plaindealer published a story detailing the alleged violent sexual assault of a teenage girl at the Ouray police chief’s house, someone stole hundreds of copies out of nearly every newspaper rack across the county, publishers say. The front-page story, written by co-publisher Erin McIntyre, broke the news that three men were arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl multiple times during a late-night party at the home of Ouray Police Chief Jeff Wood in May. “Someone didn’t like this edition of the (Plaindealer,)” co-publisher Mike Wiggins wrote on X Thursday. “Guess which article. So they stole nearly every newspaper out of our racks in Ouray County. If you hoped to silence or intimidate us, you failed miserably. We’ll find out who did this. And another press run is imminent.” https://www.denverpost.com/2024/01/18/ouray-plaindealer-stolen-newspapers-rape-allegations-police-chief-house/

Jan. 21 (UPI) -- A Colorado man has been hit with a summons to appear in court after he admitted to stealing copies of a local newspaper. Paul Choate, 41, has received a citation for petty theft for stealing more than 200 printed copies of the Ouray County Plaindealer from a dozen racks in the area, the newspaper said in an online article Saturday. "Someone didn't like this edition of the Ouray County Plaindealer," co-publisher Mike Wiggins said on social media on Thursday, the day the thefts occurred. "Guess which article." The newspaper had reported the account of a 17-year-old girl in the town of Ouray who said she was raped more than once at the home of the town's chief of police, Jeff Wood. Three suspects were arrested for her alleged rape, including the chief's stepson Nate Dieffenderffer.*** Choate reportedly admitted he took the newspapers because of the front-page story. The newspaper reported that it was not disclosing Choate's relationship to the sexual assault case and that the theft was not tied to the defendants in that case, their families or the local police department. https://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2024/01/21/colorado-man-steals-hundreds-copies-local-newspaper/4391705861238/

It's almost like they think you shouldn't point a lethal weapon at people....
A grand jury has indicted Alec Baldwin on an involuntary manslaughter charge in the deadly shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the New Mexico set of "Rust," months after prosecutors dropped their case against the actor over her death. The indictment charges Baldwin, 65, with involuntary manslaughter (negligent use of a firearm) or, in the alternative, involuntary manslaughter (without due caution or circumspection), both fourth-degree felonies.*** David Halls, the first assistant director for the film, was sentenced in March 2023 to six months unsupervised probation as part of a plea deal. Halls, who handed the Colt .45 revolver to Baldwin prior to the shooting, was charged with negligent use of a deadly weapon. https://abcnews.go.com/US/alec-baldwin-indicted-grand-jury-involuntary-manslaughter/story?id=104954728
Do we really want to live in a country where they punish you for pointing a loaded weapon at an innocent woman, squeezing the trigger, and shooting her to death?

NYC directs you to sit there like a good victim
The case of a Marine veteran from West Islip charged in the chokehold death of a New York City homeless man will go to trial. A New York judge denied Daniel Penny’s motion to dismiss his involuntary manslaughter case. Penny is accused of choking Jordan Neely to death last May. Witnesses say Neely shouted at and begged passengers for money in a New York City subway car. Penny already pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and negligent homicide charges. Penny is due back in court in March.  https://bronx.news12.com/judge-denies-motion-to-dismiss-marine-veteran-daniel-pennys-nyc-manslaughter-case
Now, generally speaking, insufficient evidence is not a proper basis to dismiss before trial.

You asked for nitrogen bro
MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- An attorney for an Alabama inmate set to be the nation's first person ever put to death by nitrogen gas asked a federal appeals court Friday to block the upcoming execution using the “untested methods.” Kenneth Smith, 58, is scheduled to be executed Thursday, when a respirator-type mask will be put on his face to replace his breathing air with pure nitrogen — depriving him of the oxygen needed to stay alive. Three states — Alabama, Oklahoma and Mississippi — have authorized nitrogen hypoxia as an execution method, but no state has previously attempted to use it.*** During arguments Friday, Circuit Judge Charles Wilson noted that Smith, when fighting past attempts to execute him by lethal injection, had previously suggested nitrogen as an alternative method. At the time the state had not developed a protocol for nitrogen executions and it was unclear when the state would do so.*** Smith was one of two men convicted of the 1988 murder-for-hire of a preacher’s wife. Prosecutors said Smith and the other man were each paid $1,000 to kill Elizabeth Sennett on behalf of her husband, who was deeply in debt and wanted to collect insurance. John Forrest Parker, the other man convicted in the case, was executed by lethal injection in 2010. Sennett's husband killed himself when the murder investigation focused on him as a suspect, according to court documents.*** https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/alabama-inmate-federal-appeals-court-block-execution-nitrogen-106519070

No, the elites have too much money, not enough Murica
The nation’s ruling class holds deeply authoritarian opinions widely divorced from the rest of the American electorate, finds a survey out this week. It found nearly 60 percent of American “elites” think there is too much individual freedom in America. Meanwhile, nearly 60 percent of registered voters have the exact opposite opinion, reporting the United States has too much top-down control, limiting liberty.  The study, titled “Them Vs. U.S,” defined the American “elite” as “having a postgraduate degree, a household income of more than $150,000 annually, and living in a zip code with more than 10,000 people per square mile.” Such people account for about 1 percent of Americans. The study also examined a sub-sample of the 1 percent who graduated from Ivy League schools or other name-brand institutions such as Northwestern, Duke, Stanford, and the University of Chicago. The study from the Committee to Unleash Prosperity found ruling class opinions on climate policies were particularly harsh and despotic. More than two-thirds of the 1 percent support rationing vital energy and food sources in an attempt to control the globe’s weather. That number jumped to nearly 90 percent among the Ivy Leaguers. Around two-thirds of normal registered voters, however, oppose rationing vital resources.*** https://thefederalist.com/2024/01/19/survey-two-thirds-of-elites-say-theres-too-much-freedom-in-america/

You'll be shocked to learn he has a record....
A suspected gunman being hunted by police in Illinois is believed to have fatally shot himself during a stand-off with cops at a gas station in Texas, authorities said. An existing manhunt for Romeo Nance, 23, was ramped-up after the discovery of bodies at two houses—believed to be family members who were known to Nance—on Monday. At that time, he was the prime suspect after a body was discovered at a home in the Chicago suburb of Will County on Sunday. He was also suspected of being involved in a separate non-fatal shooting that same day. Police began watching an address on West Acres Road in Joliet, Illinois, on Monday during what was supposed to be a surveillance stakeout for Nance at his last known address. They were also aware of a link between that home and another on the same block. But when Nance failed to show up, officers entered both homes to find five bodies in one and two bodies in the other. All of the victims had been shot.*** Local news channel ABC 7 reported that Nance had a lengthy criminal record and had been arrested a year ago for a string of felony gun charges. It was unclear if he was currently out on bond for those charges, according to the report.***

Didn't think anyone would notice $6.3M?
A federal jury convicted a Michigan businessman [22jan24] of aggravated identity theft for placing the name and address of another man with the same name in legal documents to avoid a settlement payment of more than $6 million. According to documents and evidence presented at trial, Hassan Kamal Fayad, of Dearborn, operated three medical practices and a transportation business. To fund business operations, Fayad sold outstanding medical and transportation invoices to a Texas-based investment firm. After Fayad failed to make appropriate payments to the Texas firm pursuant to their contracts, the Texas firm sued him in civil court for damages. Throughout the civil proceedings, Fayad caused the name and address of another Michigan resident who shared Fayad’s first and last name, but lived at a different address, to be placed on multiple legal documents, including on a settlement document which obligated Fayad to pay the Texas firm more than $6.3 million. Fayad’s use of the other Michigan resident’s name and address caused the garnishment of all funds from the other Michigan resident’s bank account.*** https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/michigan-medical-provider-convicted-aggravated-identity-theft

The fast food burger chain In-N-Out is a California staple, but its only Oakland location announced Sunday it would have to shutter amid rampant crime.   The Oakport Street location, which is highly profitable, will close its doors on March 24, according to an announcement made by the company CEO. "We have made the decision to close our In-N-Out Burger location in Oakland, California, due to ongoing issues with crime," Denny Warnick, the chief operating officer at In-N-Out, said in a statement. "Despite taking repeated steps to create safer conditions, our Customers and Associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft, and armed robberies.***  "Additionally, this location remains a busy and profitable one for the company, but our top priority must be the safety and well-being of our Customers and Associates – we can’t ask them to visit or work in an unsafe environment." This is also the first time In-N-Out has ever had to close a location. "There have been several In-N-Out Burger locations which have required relocation throughout our 75 years, however, our Oakland store will be the first location we have closed," Warnick told FOX Business. Three Kansas City Chiefs fans were found frozen to death in the backyard of their friend’s home, where they had gathered to watch a game — but the homeowner is insisting he had “no knowledge” that their bodies had possibly been there for two days. The bodies of David Harrington, 37, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 36, were found on the evening of Jan. 9 after the fiancée of one of the men requested a welfare check, Kansas City police told Fox Digital. One man’s body was found on the back porch of the NW 83rd Terrace home, while the other two were discovered in the backyard. But Jordan Willis, the man who was renting the home, had “no knowledge” that his friends were freezing to death on his property after they had watched Kansas City take on the LA Chargers in the last game of NFL regular season play on Jan. 7, police said. “First and foremost, this case is 100% NOT being investigated as a homicide,” Kansas City police Capt. Jake Becchina said.*** https://nypost.com/2024/01/22/news/3-kansas-city-chiefs-fans-found-frozen-outside-home-of-friend-who-had-no-knowledge-of-deaths-lawyer/

If we can't execute him.....
An Alabama man was sentenced yesterday to life in prison for his involvement with a website dedicated to the advertisement and distribution of images and videos depicting child sexual abuse. According to court documents, William Michael Spearman, 58, of Madison, was the lead administrator of the website, which had been operating for many years. The website included a section devoted to the sexual abuse of infants and toddlers, a section devoted to images and videos depicting children being subjected to pain and torture, and a section devoted to avoiding detection by law enforcement, among others. As the lead administrator, Spearman managed numerous other “staff” members, directed them on how to help run the site, recommended other users for promotion, kept records of child sexual abuse material advertised and distributed over the site, presided over staff meetings, praised and scolded users, and counseled users and other managers about the functions and expectations of the website. Spearman also advertised and distributed over the website images and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children.*** https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/man-sentenced-life-prison-running-child-sexual-abuse-material-website

The good new is she'll serve one hour for every time she stabbed him
A woman who stabbed a man more than 100 times before she turned the knife on herself during what was described as a “marijuana-induced psychotic state” will not serve any prison time, a judge ruled Tuesday. Bryn Spejcher, a Thousand Oaks resident, has been ordered to serve 100 hours of community service and two years of probation for the deadly stabbing of Chad O’Melia. Spejcher, during a state of psychosis triggered by marijuana, stabbed O’Melia more than 100 times on May 27, 2018, after they smoked the drug together.*** Because Spejcher was under psychosis at the time of the stabbing, she was charged with involuntary manslaughter instead of murder. The victim’s family said they are disheartened at the judge’s decision to not give the defendant any prison time. “This guy just gave everyone in the county a license to kill people after they smoke marijuana,” said Sean O’Melia, the victim’s father. https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/woman-who-stabbed-man-more-than-100-times-will-avoid-prison-judge-rules/3321399/
California is fantastically stupid. If you smoke weed, it's voluntary intoxication. It doesn't extenuate or mitigate a crime, it aggravates the crime.
If you're high, and you recklessly drive your car into a school bus killing the kids, that might be involuntary manslaughter.
Speicher is no different than the drunk who stabs someone to death and is guilty of murder.

Sextortion: A Growing Threat Targeting Minors
Offenders deceive and manipulate victims to create sexually explicit material for extortion purposes BALTIMORE, MD—FBI Baltimore wants to warn parents, educators, caregivers, and children about the dangers of online activity that may lead to the solicitation and enticement of a minor to engage in sexual acts.  *** Victims are typically males between the ages of 14 to 17, but any child can become a victim. For financially motivated sextortion, offenders are usually located outside the United States and primarily in West African countries such as Nigeria and Ivory Coast or Southeast Asian countries such as the Philippines.  These crimes can lead victims to self-harm and have led to suicide. From October 2021 to March 2023, the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations received over 13,000 reports of online financial sextortion of minors. The sextortion involved at least 12,600 victims—primarily boys—and led to at least 20 suicides.   In the six-month period from October 2022 to March 2023, the FBI observed at least a 20% increase in reporting of financially motivated sextortion incidents involving minor victims compared to the same time period the previous year. *** https://www.fbi.gov/contact-us/field-offices/baltimore/news/sextortion-a-growing-threat-targeting-minors

Written by Francis Delia and Ron Magid
Directed by Francis Delia
Somewhere, men are breaking a chain to open a door. The men are speaking German and are opening a sealed morgue-like room that is in a deep freeze. The open a drawer containing the frozen body of a Nazi, and one of the men, Mueller, calls the body the new Fuhrer, saying he should have succeeded Hitler.
Later, they slowly thaw the man and his throat wound begins to bleed. Mueller holds up an amulet and chants, asking for the body to be given life. The dead man awakens and kills Mueller's associate. Mueller then places the amulet around the resurrected man's neck, and tells him once he has killed all his enemies, they will have the future Hitler had promised, a thousand year Reich.
A black and white flashback takes us to WWII, and we see the torture they inflicted on others. One of them approaches a young Jack Marshak, tied to a chair.
Current day Jack awakens from a nightmare, holding his throat.
Cut to another old man, a big baseball fan, playing solitaire. A knock on his door has him wheel himself to answer. The man at the door asks if he is Mr. Cook, which he is, then says he is a wartime friend of Jack's. Cook lets him in, and comments that the man doesn't look old enough to be a wartime ally. The man comments on a photo and Cook says it is his battalion, and that they caught a Nazi scientist, Mueller. Cook says they should have killed Mueller. As Cook reminisces, the man comes up behind him and chokes him with barbed wire. We see it i the resurrected Nazi.
At Curious Goods, Jack is surprised at the arrival of two other old war buddies, Shaw and Simpson. The men embrace, then lament the reason for their reunion: Lefty Cook's funeral, which Jack says he won't be attending. His friends tell Jack they are getting old and all they can do is see that they get buried right.
The three men make a toast to Lefty at his coffin. Jack wonders why someone would kill their friend and Shaw says another friend, Carruthers, was also killed. Jack looks at Cook's neck and sees the wound.
Later, at a bar, the three men are drinking and holding a small wake for Cook. Jack gets off the phone and joins them and says the Veteran's Administration says two others, Evanovich and LaRue are also dead, and Jack wants to know if they were also murdered. Jack says The Butcher used to kill using barbed wire. Simpson says The Butcher is dead. Jack tells them about his nightmare.
Jack and Shaw stumble into Curious Goods, and Shaw insists on staying. Jack sends him to Micki's room, saying the cousins are out of town.
Elsewhere, Mueller is putting and X on the faces of those he has killed through the resurrected Butcher. He then circles Simpson's face.
Another flashback, and we see Jack held at gunpoint, and Mueller and The Butcher torturing him and his friends. Shaw rushes to wake Jack from his nightmare.
Next morning, Jack gets a delivery from the V.A. Shaw wakes as Jack reads that Evanovich and LaRue were killed in Europe, and were strangled like the others. Shaw is incredulous, but says Mueller is still in jail and that The Butcher, Rausch, is dead. Jack isn't so sure. He says Mueller was experimenting with cryogenic freezing, and maybe he had time to freeze Rausch. Shaw doesn't believe it, or that anyone is back from the dead. Jack, with his experience, isn't so sure.
On a radio show, Rausch is posing as Karl Steiner, the host of a controversial show with Nazi-leanings. He says he is just telling the truth as a reporter interviews him. She asks about his past, but he wants to talk the future. She says people are talking about him entering politics. Rausch hears Mueller in his head pushing him to continue their plan, then feels fresh blood from his hidden neck wound. He takes off, but not before saying some more Nazi-like sentiments to the reporter.
In the bathroom, he bleeds, then pulls out his barbed wire to kill a stranger, but Mueller in his head stops him. Rausch fondles the amulet. Mueller tells him to kill only their enemies and then says he knows where Simpson is. Rausch struggles in pain.
Jack tries to convince Shaw that Mueller and The Butcher are targeting them somehow. Jack opens a locked box he has keep closed since the war. He pulls out Mueller's diary, with a page showing a drawing of the amulet. Jack says it is a symbol of the Thule Society, an ancient group of alchemists and warlocks. Jack believes this is how Mueller brought Rausch back. Shaw is still a non-believer. Jack picks up the phone to call Simpson.
We cut to Simpson getting into his car. The radio is playing a rebroadcast of Rausch's Steiner-hosted radio show. Suddenly, Rausch pops up from the backseat and chokes Simpson with his barbed wire garrote, killing him.
Jack and Shaw are up late, waiting on Simpson to arrive, and worried that he's so late. The phone rings. Jack and Shaw are at the crime scene and the cop says he thinks Simpson was killed with piano wire. Jack says it was barbed wire.
Mueller, in his cell, crosses out Simpson's face and says soon it will be Jack's turn.
Jack is reading up on the Thule Society, trying to convince a still skeptical Shaw. Jack says Rausch would have been the ideal subject for Mueller to freeze. Shaw asks if Mueller has this amulet and Jack thinks so. Jack calls overseas to speak to the warden of the prison holding Mueller.
Rausch as Steiner is listening to a recording of his callers as Mueller again enters his thoughts, telling him that once he kills Jack he will have eternal life. But that they have something to do before than happens.
Jack speaks to the warden, who says if Jack wants to speak to Mueller, he will have to go there, prisoners are not allowed phone calls. Jack says he will be on the next flight. The warden then tells Jack that about a year ago, Mueller did escape, but was recaptured the next day.
Later, Jack is packed and ready to go, but Shaw says he is staying put, with no intention of setting foot in Germany again. Jack worries for his safety, but Shaw says he won't be caught unaware. Jack gives him a gun and ammo from his old war chest, then heads off.
In West Berlin, Jack arrives at the military prison. The guard checks his paperwork. Jack waits and dozes off. In his cell, Mueller again holds his part of the amulet. Jack remembers the siege that helped liberate him and his group, and that he choked Rausch with his barbed wire. Jack reawakens in a panic, and grabs the phone to check on Shaw.
In the USA, Shaw goes to answer the phone at Curious Goods when Rausch pops up from behind the counter and strangles him with the barbed wire, killing him. Jack's call goes unanswered.
Jack is brought to meet with Mueller, who says he was expecting him. Mueller says he is halfway around the world when Jack accuses him, then says The Butcher is dead. Mueller taunts Jack, telling him Shaw is already dead, and relishes Jack's anguish. He says he saved Jack for last, then tosses him the other half of the amulet. He says Rausch is waiting for him. Jack leaves as Mueller rants.
Back at Curious Goods, Jack finds Shaw's body and cries over the last of his wartime friends. Next to Shaw is the magazine he was reading that shows a photo of Karl Stiener, aka The Butcher, and Jack recognizes him.
At the radio station, Rausch continues to get calls from people sympathetic to his horrific ideas. Then he gets a call from Jack, speaking German, and telling him he has what he wants and calling him Butcher. Rausch ends his show, saying it is his last broadcast, since he is entering politics, and continues to goad the gullible listeners.
At the store, Jack awaits Rausch's arrival, recalling his old war buddies. He loads his gun, checks his knife, gets his shotgun. Then he sits and waits. The lack of sleep weighs on him and he dozes. Again he dreams of that night in WWII. Suddenly, Rausch kicks the door in, Jack shoots towards him but misses. Then Rausch searches for Jack, telling him to give him the amulet half. Jack moves slowly, but Rausch wraps the wire around Jack's wrist, causing Jack to drop the gun before he can shoot. Jack drops the amulet piece, and Rausch goes to it, putting the two amulet pieces together. Jack gets his gun and shoots at Rausch, even dead center of his forehead, but it does nothing. Rausch stands again, barbed wire in hand.
Rausch again searches the store for Jack, but this time, Jack reaches through the stair railing and wraps wire around Rausch's neck, holding him in place. Jack then cuts the amulet free from around Rausch's neck and the man chokes, bleeds and dies.
Later, Jack is looking at the photo of him and his troop. He hears their voices. He puts the photo in the chest. He holds the amulet and hears Mueller's voice. He puts it back into the chest, locks it, then places the whole thing inside the vault and closes it. He wearily heads up the stairs.
My thoughts:
Love that we get an episode that is centered on Jack, and that we learn about a big part of his past, and see some of his old friends.
Dark stuff, though. Horrors of war and the Nazis are never easy to watch, for me or anyone, I would imagine. We some horrific stuff just barely in Jack's flashbacks, and we know the truth was just so much worse.
Also sad to be rewatching this in 2022, and feel like their are people NOW who would be parroting the callers on Rausch's racist radio show. Sad and insane.
Feel bad for Jack, losing so many friends in such a short amount of time. He truly suffers, and their is no Micki or Ryan to comfort him at the end. Locking the amulet in the vault makes sense, but putting it is war chest and locking it ALL in the Vault seems more like Jack want to keep himself safe from all of his war memories. Sad, but makes a weird sense.
Wonder if Jack disposed of Rausch's body on his own. I can't imagine him explaining any of that to the cops, especially if Rausch was so popular as Stiener.
Also have to wonder how irate and ranting Mueller was in his prison cell when he learned his plan didn't succeed in the end, and Jack survived.
Next week: Mesmer's Bauble

Barry’s hand rubbed at the nape of his neck as he sat across from Nora in the lounge. “Hey, uh...sorry about earlier. It’s been a rough few weeks, and I haven’t been trusting my own consciousness much as of late.” He sipped his tea before looking at his daughter. “I just can’t believe you’re really here. Explain to me again how you got here?”

Illumination Bowling Teams
Now I've got the idea of Illumination characters involved in a crossover sports game that's not canon to their films, I've started thinking of the idea of them participating in separate bowling teams.

Meena and Alfonso don't participate in the sport because their fingers can't fit inside the balls' holes. The other pets don't participate because none of them except for Snowball can stand up.

#0005: Captain Boomerang (George “Digger” Harkness)
Age at death: 37
Occupation: Criminal, former toy salesman.
Marital status: Single.
Known relatives: W.W. Wiggins (father), Betty Harkness (mother), Ian Harkness (stepfather), Tom Harkness (stepbrother), Owen Mercer (son).
Group affiliation: formerly Rogues, Suicide Squad.
Base of operations: Central City, Missouri, formerly Belle Reve Penitentiary.
Height: 5′9″
Weight: 167 lbs.
History:
42 years ago: George Harkness is born, the illegitimate offspring of Australian Betty Harkness and American toy magnate W.W. Wiggins. Hated by Betty’s husband, Ian, Harkness has a miserable upbringing.
29 years ago: 13-year-old Harkness crafts a boomerang at school and begins honing his skills with the weapon, using it to cause mischief alongside his best friend, Mick Wentworth.
24 years ago:
Harkness and Wentworth rob a convenience store, escaping with the aid of Harkness’s boomerang. Ian kicks him out of the house, and he’s given a plane ticket to America by Betty, with instructions to go meet his biological father in Central City.
Under the alias of “George Green”, Harkness meets Wiggins, and is given a job as a spokesperson for Wiggins’ toy boomerangs, using the name of “Captain Boomerang” and a costume to match.
23 years ago:
Bored of his life as a toy salesman, Harkness begins using his boomerangs to commit petty crimes under the radar of the Central City Police Department.
Harkness meets figure skater Lisa Snart, the Golden Glider, and the two have a one-night stand. Unbeknownst to Harkness, Lisa becomes pregnant with his child.
22 years ago: One of Harkness’s capers is foiled by police scientist Barry Allen, a new arrival in Central City, and he goes to prison.
19 years ago:
Harkness escapes from prison, committing a series of jewel thefts across Central City, and is stopped by the city’s new defender, the Flash.
Harkness first meets several other members of Central City’s criminal element: Captain Cold, Mirror Master, Weather Wizard, and Heat Wave. The five band together as the Rogues.
17 years ago: The Rogues induct Captain Cold’s sister, the Golden Glider, into their group. Her and Harkness have an uneasy reunion, and she never tells him about their son, whom she gave up for adoption.
11 years ago: Mirror Master and the Flash both die during the battle against the Anti-Monitor. Disheartened, the Rogues retire from crime, and Harkness is interred at Belle Reve Penitentiary.
10 years ago: Harkness is conscripted by Amanda Waller to serve on Task Force X, known colloquially as the “Suicide Squad.” In exchange for a shorter sentence, he goes on several high-stakes missions for Waller, while also moonlighting as the new Mirror Master for a time.
8 years ago: Harkness, along with the other Rogues, is contacted by Abra Kadabra, who presents them each with a green candle. Together, they summon the demon Neron, who takes each of their souls in exchange for empowering Kadabra.
7 years ago: Harkness, alongside the other deceased Rogues, is resurrected as a demonic avatar as part of a ploy by Neron to gain access to the Speed Force. Wally West and Linda Park defeat Neron, restoring the Rogues to life in the process.
5 years ago: Harkness meets Owen Mercer, his son, and the two work together, sharing the mantle of Captain Boomerang. Harkness and Mercer take a job for Jean Loring, possessed by Eclipso, and attempt to murder Jack Drake. Drake murders Harkness in self-defense, shooting him in the head with a shotgun.
Commentary:
On the flip side of the whole “legacy” idea, here’s Captain Boomerang, a lowlife through and through, but one who left a legacy behind nonetheless. Digger’s a jerk who doesn’t really care about anyone besides himself, and it’s a miracle the Rogues get along with him so well, as the members of the Suicide Squad who had the displeasure of working with him certainly didn’t.
There’s not much revision that needs to be done with Harkness’s history, thankfully. His little trip into the future in Rogue War doesn’t happen in this timeline, removing his connection to the Allen-Thawne family tree. Instead, Golden Glider is Owen’s mother, made possible by the insertion of a few years in the timeline between the time Harkness arrives in America and when he first fights the Flash. This also makes him a little older than in canon (I think), which contributes to his feelings of being old and washed-up by the time this universe’s version of Identity Crisis rolls around.
Brightest Day does happen in this continuity, but in the interest of maximizing legacy characters and limiting the number of resurrections that happen, Harkness isn’t among the characters who get brought back. Instead, Owen gets to carry forward the Captain Boomerang mantle, toeing the line between hero and villain.
Got questions? Asks are open!
Next up: Aquaman!
