Znajduje się on w górach i jest zarówno ogrodem zoologicznym i botanicznym jak i parkiem rozrywki, w którym organizowane są pokazy z zwierzętami, z których najciekawszymi są drapieżne ptaki.

Popularność Gran Canarii jest tak duża, że latem praktycznie nie ma szans na znalezienie wolnych pokoi w hotelach – w sierpniu wszystkie hotele są całkowicie zapełnione. Planując wyjazd na Gran Canarię warto więc zarezerwować go wcześniej (sam byłem na Gran Canarii cztery razy i za każdym razem wakacje rezerwowałem ponad pół roku wcześniej).

Na miejscu można skorzystać zarówno z wycieczek organizowanych przez biuro podróży jak i samemu wypożyczyć samochód – poruszanie się po wyspie jest całkiem wygodne – nie licząc serpentyn na górskich trasach. Warto jednak pamiętać, że w wielu miejscach lepiej spędzić więcej czasu, a zaplanowane w trakcie zorganizowanych wycieczek postoje są stanowczo za krótkie.

Na Gran Canarii sezon turystyczny trwa cały rok. Najwięcej turystów przyjeżdża w środku lata oraz na jesień i wczesną wiosnę. Najgorszy okres przypada na listopad-luty, kiedy pogoda jest nieco chłodniejsza i mogą pojawić się deszcze.

Als Abschlusstour hatte ich heute erneut ca. 85 km über Fataga, San Bartolomé, Santa Lucia und Agüimes vorgesehen. Entgegen der Tour vor ein paar Tagen, sollte es hinter Santa Lucia jedoch nicht über die GC-550 durch die Berge gehen, sondern stattdessen weiter auf der GC-65 durch den atemberaubenden Canyon.

Angesichts der bei aufkommendem Calima zu erwartenden Temperaturen starte ich um Punkt 8 Uhr. Nach 9 km ist der knapp 500 Meter hohe Mirador de las Yeguas erreicht.

Bis nach Arteara geht es nun fast ausschließlich bergab. Die Temperaturen sind mit min. 18° auch im Schatten der Berge angenehm. Hinter Arteara beginnt der 12 km lange kontinuierliche Anstieg auf ca. 900 Meter.

Fataga

Fataga gibt einem dabei das Gefühl, ein Zwischenziel erreicht zu haben. Heute gibt es mit ein paar heftigen Windböen ausserdem einen kleinen Vorgeschmack auf das, was noch kommen soll.

Die Idee, für ein paar zusätzliche Entfernungskilometer und grandiose Ausblicke, bei El Cardon in Richtung Agüimes abzubiegen, wird ganz rasch vom Winde verweht. Ich möchte nur noch zur Küste, wo hoffentlich der Wind dreht.

Das tut er bei Vecindario denn auch, und pustet fortan kräftig von hinten. Der heftigen Rückenwind trägt dazu bei, dass ich die flache Strecke nach Playa del Inglés über weite Teile mit über 50 km/h absolviere.

Um noch einige Streckenkilometer zu bekommen, fahre ich weiter bis El Pajar und von dort zurück nach Playa del Inglés. Den unglaublichen Wind an der Südostküste kann man sich hier kaum noch vorstellen.

Antes de llegar al barrio de Triana, deténgase en la Casa de Colón, de arte mudéjar, con su alfil verde de piedra volcánica y balcones de madera de estilo canario. El de Triana es el núcleo comercial de Las Palmas, de estética burguesa bien presente en su arteria principal, la calle Mayor de Triana, colmada de tiendas de moda.

No se puede dejar Las Palmas sin darse un baño en la playa de Las Canteras y probar el delicioso pescado que preparan en el restaurante La Marinera, con vistas de toda la bahía.

Puerto de Mogán Su próximo destino se encuentra en el sur y será un tesoro para aquellos que solo esperen relax. Puerto de Mogán es un diminuto pueblo pesquero, de calles peatonales, casitas coloridas y surcado por canales de agua salada donde el estrés no tiene tanta cabida como sí la tiene el turista extranjero. Entre sus muelles también tiene finos restaurantes, bares de jazz, una apacible playa para practicar el buceo y un mercado los viernes por si, por un casual, le pareciera aburrirse. 

A 15 minutos caminando, el resort Radisson Blu es la elección idónea para descansar en su bar-piscina, su spa, hasta tres restaurantes y zonas deportivas.

Rumbo a Maspalomas

Desde el mismo Puerto de Mogán zarpan barcos de pasajeros que hacen rutas por el sur de la isla. Hasta llegar a contemplar el faro de Maspalomas disfrutará de estupendas vistas de la áspera costa, divisando los pueblos de Puerto Rico, Arguineguín y El Pajar.

Si tiene oportunidad, visite Maspalomas, la localidad más austral de la isla, y recorra sus famosas dunas a pie de mar. El barco, ya de vuelta, se detendrá en Pasito Blanco para amarrar en su puerto deportivo. Es desde aquí donde comenzará su incursión hacia el corazón natural de la isla para conocer la esencia pura canariona.

Barranco de Fataga La ruta que conduce hasta la aldea de Fataga, un precioso caserío blanco en el municipio de San Bartolomé de Tirajana, es ya de por sí una experiencia. La carretera deja el mar a la espalda para adentrarse zigzagueante en un terreno seco, abrasado por el sol y donde solo las palmeras y los cactus tienen cabida.

Desde el alto Degollada de la Yegua, con excelentes vistas de toda la isla y el valle, prosigue la travesía bordeando el gigantesco barranco de Fataga hasta llegar a la ansiada aldea. Aquí, en medio de un entorno natural protegido, los aborígenes se atrincheraron contra las embestidas castellanas hasta derrotarlos.

Nach der gestrigen touristischen “Delle” in unserem Tourprogramm, wartet heute wieder ein Leckerbissen auf mich. Spät widme ich mich ihm jedoch erst.

10h18 zeigt die Uhr bereits als ich auf die Strecke gehe. Einige Regentropfen an der sonst trockenen Küste und tiefdunkle Wolken in den Bergen haben einen früheren Start nicht sinnvoll erscheinen lassen.

Die Aussicht auf eine alternative Laufeinheit von 2h+ überzeugt aber letztendlich.

In 38 Minuten erklimme ich zunächst über eine Strecke von 9 km den fast 500 Meter hohen “Degollada de la Yegua”. Wenn die Strecke nicht so schön wäre, könnte es schon deprimieren, dass die 8 km lange Strecke nach Fataga, das nur ca. 100 Meter höher liegt, zunächst wieder bis auf 300 Meter hinunter ins Tal führt. Also heisst es erneut kräftig strampeln. 

Mit etwas weniger steilen Anstiegen geht es hinter Fataga weitere 7 km bergauf. Kurz hinter dem 900 Meter hohen “Mirador de Fataga” erreiche ich San Bartolomé, das ich nicht nur links liegen lassen, weil es heute wolkenverhangen ist.

Meine Tour führt mich heute in Richtung Santa Lucia. Auf der 7 km langen, fast durchgängig abschüssigen Strecke rollt das Rad fast von alleine: 300 Meter geht es zunächst bergab, bevor die Strasse dann erneut knapp 80 Meter ansteigt.

In Santa Lucia stärke ich mich traditionell bei der “für die Kühltheke viel zu kleinen Mama”.

32 km stehen zu diesem Zeitpunkt erst auf dem Computer. Dass sich das nach 1.500 Höhenmeter ganz anders anfühlt tut nichts zur Sache. Um noch ein paar Entfernungskilometer zu sammeln, biege ich hinter Santa Lucia links ab auf die GC 550 in Richtung Agüimes. Die 17 km lange, wellige Strecke ist bei gutem Wetter ein Paradies für Radler: sanfte Auf- und Abstiege wechseln einander ab, die Strasse ist perfekt asphaltiert. Leider macht die Gegend heute ihrem Ruf als “Regenloch Süd-Gran-Canarias” alle Ehre. Einige Tropfen fallen, dunkle Wolken hängen in den Barrancos und die Temperatur fällt auf 16° hinunter. Man könnte es im Fahrtwind fast als kühl bezeichnen.

  In Agüimes fällt die Entscheidung für den Rückweg leicht. Angesichts der Wolken verzichte ich auf die landschaftlich interessante GC-551, die aber noch in den Bergen liegt. Stattdessen geht es über die fast im rechten Winkel zur Küste verlaufende Strasse nach Cruce Arinaga, und von dort weiter entlang der Küste über Vecindario und El Doctoral in Richtung Playa del Inglés.

Hinter Juan Grande stellt sich dann das späte Hawaii-Feeling ein: eine fast schnurgerade Strasse mit schwarzem Asphalt, der -nun erneut in gleissender Sonne liegend- flimmert. Dazu die Lavawüste und links das Meer. Heftige Windböen zwingen mich immer wieder die Aeroposition aufzugeben. So ähnlich muss man sich auf der Radstrecke der Ironman World Championship vorkommen.
