5. What's your favourite genre of movie?

Honestly enjoy a lot. But oftenest: Eerie ghost stories, psychological thrillers, films where people dance through their suffering (and we danced, the red shoes etc).

7. What movie gave you nightmares?

Don't look now and I think the modern remake of susperia. But most recently the Barbiehiemer experience messed me up in my waking life and I'm not even being sarcastic

For spooky season, barbarian and infinity pool, also all the film noirs as we enter noir november!

My thoughts on Oppenheimer

I saw Oppenheimer today and wanted to give my thoughts (No spoilers)

First, I was really excited to see this film, mainly because I am an enjoyer of Christopher Nolan's films and I have a fascination with nuclear/atomic weaponry so this film was on my radar long before the whole barbiehiemer thing blew up.

I want to say I loved this film, but I want to prefice this by saying this film isn't for everybody (as with most of Nolan's work). Moistcritical phrased it perfectly, discussing how many people might go into it thinking it's about the bomb, but really it's about Oppenheimer himself.

It is a lot of dialogue, however I don't think this made it boring. The dialogue and scenes were presented in very interesting and visually beautiful ways.

I saw some people on TikTok say it's 3 hours of 15 second celebrity cameos which I think is plain wrong. It is a political and scientific story about the father of the atomic bomb which just so happens to have well known actors in it. It isn't going to have a lot of action.

I also saw another TikTok comment say it was American patriotism propaganda which I also think is a wrong judgement. It clearly shows the ways in which the American government was wrong and shit but they also don't show Oppenheimer in the most heroic and favourable light either.

This is a stunning film and I think an important one in showing the consequences of atomic weaponry and war in general.

Yeah, I also think the barbiehiemer shit is just one more annoying drop in the bucket of not taking serious things seriously. Like, there's a lot of reasons to feel weird about why are making this grand Oppenheimer movie anyway, but then it just feels a little bit weirder to make the oppenhiemer movie this collective barbie tie in. I don't think lecturing people on this point will like, make the average person take America's choice to deploy nuclear bombs more seriously, but it seems like just another "goes to show you people don't take this thing seriously."
