Budapest RD -
CPom's RD still looks like the danciest, the most cohesive. it's playful, full of musical details, and skated beautifully. they tied for 1st in base value. it feels like there are some points available if they can put her in the air instead of those cute hops in the ChRS and to have even more build to the end. the judges were in close agreement on them- all the GOE were +2 or +3, and every PCS mark was 8.25-8.75. i wonder what that next step is to get those PCS nudging 9. and to get into +4's
Pirihara divided the judges more- their PCS range from 6.75 - 8.25, and their GOE start at 0, but they are getting a few +4s. the skating and polish isn't quite there yet, but they're selling it and performing to the max
the team tied for 1st in BV was Ignateva/Szemko, the Hungarian team - they train with Barbara Fusar-Poli. the packaging and choreo here doesn't really match the music, which is a thing with her teams - why doesn't she bring in collaborators then i wonder
the only level 3 Paso in the event was by Giulia Isabella Paolina and Andrea Tuba of Italy who train with Valter Rizzo - they're 16/21 yo and were on the JGP last season. their programs are by Massimo Scali, and they look secure in what they're doing - a good start to their first fully senior season, btw this and Lombardia - they said this in an interview recently -
Tumblr media
Holly Harris and Jason Chan skating in hold and closer together than many teams in their paso:
every time i see them, i find something new that they do well, but they also tend to make these odd slips and stumbles - idk if that's a mental lapse - but it has to affect their confidence. i hope they can get that part under control. they were the only team in the event with level 3 for both in their midline. in the PSt, the stumble cost them 3+ points which would have had them a couple places higher

Ice dance coaches's sun/moon signs:
Every last IAM and MIDA coach has an earth or water sign for sun or moon if not both. earth is stable and solidifying, solid water= ice it's so literal 😅
IAM coaches: Marie-France - Leo sun/Taurus moon Patrice - Sagittarius/Virgo Romain - Cancer/Pisces Pascal - Taurus/Virgo or Libra moon Josee - Cancer/Cancer or Leo Benjamin - Libra/Cancer
IAMO coaches: Scott - Virgo/Sag Adrian - Virgo/Leo or Virgo Madi - Pisces/Cancer Cara - Pisces/Pisces Sheri - Virgo/Taurus Justin - Taurus/Cancer Alma - Capricorn/Cancer
MIDA coaches: Charlie - Scorpio/Scorpio Tanith - Cancer/Sag or Capricorn Greg - Scorpio/Taurus
a large percentage of male ice dancers have earth sign sun or moon, and coaches are mostly former skaters, so that could be related
when we look at other schools, it's not 100% - there are exceptions, but still - in a list of 23 coaches, only 1 definitely doesn't fit the pattern.
Igor Shpilband - Cancer/Virgo or Libra Pasquale Camerlengo - Aries/Aquarius Anjelica Krylova - Cancer/Virgo (slight chance of Leo) Barbara Fusar-Poli - Aquarius/Scorpio (slight chance of Libra, but, Scorpio seems to fit her so much) Marina Zueva - Aries/Pisces or Aries (i always think of her as a double Aries, but there is a chance she's a Pisces moon) Massimo Scali - Sagittarius/Virgo Luca Lanotte - Leo/Capricorn

Note
If you look at how Barbara Fusar-Poli was packaged back in the day, Charlene is an improvement? But agreed…she seems lovely but some of the choices are not my favorite.
To be fair to Barbara the packaging of her era was abysmal in general, I can not watch ice dance from that era without feeling second hand embarrassment, in that sense Tessa and Scott in their first quad were borderline revolutionary with the costumes they had, I might not have loved all of their costumes but none of them makes me cringe (even their 2008 OD costume wasn't that bad for the most part). But yeah Barbara is so elegant now and was such a trainwreck as a competitor. As for Charlene, it's never good but it's also not "so bad that it's good" which is why it's always a miss.

Barbara Fusar-Poli, I would not be proud of that even if it was a world record breaking score.
What is ISU's plan for dealing with this atrocity?

Barbara Fusar-Poli and Maurizio Margaglio skating to The Prince of Egypt for their free dance at the 2006 Olympics.
2006 was such a terrifying time for ice dance costumes; I have to brace myself to delve into those dark archives.
