Capital One Appreciates its Customers and Listens to them too
Tumblr media
Last week, I attended the Capital One Café Listen In event in Santa Monica for a truly engaging listening experience and a remote podcast taping of “Dine & Dish With Dawn” - my celebrity-meets-food show where we eat, drink, share stories...and, desserts. (You can catch that episode in mid-November on www.DineAndDishWithDawn.com on iTunes or Libsyn). Over Peet's Coffee and delicious treats, Phillip Phillips and I chatted about the food that excites us, the moments that inspire us, our current theme song if we had to choose one, the power of hindsight wisdom, perceived weaknesses that became strengths, our dream dinner party guests and the sweet sounds of home. But it wasn’t all about dining & dishing. There was also a lot of listening that went on...and, I don’t just mean listening to Phillip’s set. I got a generous slice of advice from Capital One Money Coach and Listen In host, Megan Lathrop, on the role listening plays on your financial journey. According to a survey by Capital One, nearly 1 in 5 Americans can’t remember the last time someone was completely focused on listening to them, and more than 26% of Americans feel the banking sector ranks in the top two worst industries at listening to their needs. Yikes. Capital One is doing things a little differently. Through listening, they are creating an experience built around the needs of the individual. Megan and Capital One Cafe believe that banking is deeply personal, and that getting to know yourself will help you fuel your purpose and passions. They want to listen to what their customers need so they can be a better partner both on their financial journey...and, in pursuing their unique passions. Now, as much as I love a good concert or podcast, I REALLY like the sound of that. Canadian Sex Workers, advice please!
Recently relocated from America and set up my first Canadian banking account with Prospera. New to Canada, I had no idea they couldn’t force me to answer their employment questions. I tried to evade, I asked to not answer, but in the end I had to disclose my legal sex work job. The next 10 minutes were the banker's unsolicited “disclaimer” about how I can never be on a mortgage or loan through them due to my job. And now the main branch is telling me there might be a 12 USD charge to every direct deposit I have into my account (yowch!) Since I’m paid primarily through online pay methods, that fee is going to devour my income.  So who do you bank with? Is there any British Columbia based banks that might be more sex work friendly? Or at least, won’t force me to answer illegal employment questions and then shame for me 20 minutes about my legal job?  All I need is a bank account that can take direct deposit from sites like Niteflirt and Manyvids. I don’t need any frills, and I’d just settle for a bank I can enter without feeling like I’m going to have a panic attack.
