Two bald eagles were soaring above the lake for a little while. When you hear the sound they make (the short but kind of melodious tweets while they’re near each other) you’ll understand why movie makers often substitute the sound of a red-tailed hawk for it.

It’s herring spawn time, one of the most amazing times to see all sorts of coastal wildlife here. Everyone gathers at the same time to enjoy the feast!

can almost guarantee that eagles nested there prior to colonialism but i suppose the point is that eagles are nesting there AGAIN because the environment has improved so much (from colonialism of the land and general environmental destruction/degradation) but this ultimately reminds me that Canada is stolen land.

A moment of awe
Bald eagles have become a fairly common sight on our stretch of northern Lake Huron shoreline, but it's usually a fleeting glimpse and always from a distance; they never pose for photos.
This one lingered long enough Friday afternoon to let me run back inside to get my long lens. I got within a hundreds yards or so of the eagle's perch before it decided I was close enough. It rode its 6-foot wingspan our of sight.
It was my moment of awe for the day.
