the scene between the greens and baela with moondancer is a great contrast between criston's experience and competence in war and the arrogance but inexperience of highborn men like gwayne hightower. criston realizes that strategy takes priority over comfort when gwayne does not. he is the first to note the disadvantage provided by their position and he is the first to spot the danger that is baela. even once in the forest, gwayne is a mess, crying and trembling, while criston is dead calm, keeping his eyes on the threat and immediately revising their plan going forwards to account for it. criston worked his way up through the ranks and he has the combat experience to show for it and it certainly made gwayne look rather pathetic
