I remember she used to pray a lot. Talk to God about the pain that she pulled out. Ask him to carry it away. I'm still trying to figure out why they picked me for a medic. God knows.

Can you yap about ritawalburga
hello yes i certainly can!! okay this is all still pretty fresh from the womb and stems from a vision i scribbled down in my notes app a few nights ago when i didn’t have wifi and therefore couldn’t text jen, but it ties in w my mission to make grimmauld place more Fucked Up (can’t remember if i’ve ever spoken about said mission before but. it’s fairly self-explanatory… i want that place haunted and semi-sentient and hungry)
so. basically. we’re post-first war. regulus is dead. sirius is in azkaban (and also disowned so as good as dead, really). orion is deathly ill and then later dead. and it’s just walburga and kreacher living in that big old house.
and grimmauld place is angry.
the wards in grimmauld place have been fed by the blood and the magic and the Presence of centuries of head of houses. lords of the noble and most ancient house of black. and walburga has failed them. sure, she provided the house w an heir and a spare, she did her duty, but then she lost both of them, she Failed. and now there's no heir. no spare. no lord bc orion is dying dying dead. no future for the house of black and grimmauld place is angry and dying and collapsing in on itself, shadows wrapping themselves around walburga's neck and squeezing, filling every crevice with despair and rot etc etc etc
and in canon... one could argue... that walburga's portrait, permanently fixed to the wall in the entrance hall, bigger than any of the other portraits, is her way of trying to assert some control over the house. she can be angry and bitter and hungry too. she is a part of the house too. a part of the legacy of the blacks.
in this au however, there's rita. tenacious reporter going to great lengths to get the scoop on the mystery surrounding orion's illness - he died at 50, he's a wizard, he should've lived a lot longer and it's unusual for illnesses to be incurable in the wizarding world. and she's nasty and determined and she shows up at grimmauld place again and again and again. she tries to ask for an invite to tea, tries to break in, tries to sneak through some sort of crack in her animagus form, tries to spy from outside through windows; she tries all sorts. grimmauld knows, obviously, and is incredibly hostile.
eventually, she asks again if she might visit walburga, and she says yes, because she's lonely or bored or curious or perhaps because she wants to spite the house. they have tea. they talk about nothing for half an hour or so. rita asks if she can visit again. walburga says yes. because rita is interesting and company and she pushes back against the things walburga says in a way that she never gets from kreacher (and she misses that pushback, which left the house with sirius, with orion. not w reg obvs lol). and the house hates it but walburga is angry and bitter and hungry too and she keeps letting rita back in. over and over and over again and they talk and they drink tea and the house is rotting around them, bearing down upon them w it's misery and it's fury, but rita is a spark of life. and maybe she kindles a bit of a fire in the ashes of the hearth. and maybe walburga likes her.
and maybe one day rita says why don't we go somewhere else for a change, and walburga (who hasn't left the house at all in years) says okay. and so she leaves and never comes back.
then, i was texting jen about this, obviously, and she said.... what if the house just completely crumbles when she walks out which is sooooooo sexy. like it just collapses in on itself. slumps down into a lifeless heap until sirius crosses the threshold again later. we also spoke about this ritawalburga happening in the context of the bellareg marriage au which makes me crazy and i would be happy to scream about if anyone wanted. but yes this is my ritawalburga.

microfic: bellatunia, explicit/mature, 1040 words
cw: stalking, dubious consent ??, sexual content, cheating
heavily inspired by (and dedicated to) @foursaints and their bellatunia anons sending me into a deep brain rot <3
Strange things keep happening around Petunia and she can’t help thinking about Lily. And magic. She remembers strange things happening around Lily all the time.
She remembers when Lily threw a tantrum and her hair had gone from red to a bright ugly green, only for a couple of minutes; and to this day Petunia still doesn’t know if Lily even realised it happened. She knows Lily noticed other strange things around her, like pencils levitating or the strange boy under the tree.
Petunia had been staring at her, wide eyes and eyebrows raised—- and Lily had only gotten angrier. Bright green hair and cutlery hovering slightly in the air around them. The floor had been vibrating underneath Petunia’s socked feet.
It was the first, and only, time Petunia had witnessed Lily’s peculiarity as something other than innocent. Instead it had been born from anger, made her hair a nasty shade of green, suffocating the strawberry red that everyone loved so much. Petunia had felt something close to spiteful glee watching Lily fall from grace— a victim to her magic.
Lily had tried to introduce Petunia to magic. She had taken her out to the backyard, making flowers bloom from just smiling down at them. Petunia had sneered, though she hates to admit, even now, the jealousy she had felt. Hates that she had tried to look at flowers in the same patient way Lily did, when no one was looking, willing them to bloom on command. They never did.
So, in a way, the strange things happening around Petunia lately doesn’t seem all that strange at all. Almost familiar in a sense, and it’s been years since she’s seen anything resembling the magic she tries so hard not to remember.
The hopeful child in her that hasn’t yet died had the brief fantasy that it’s her causing it. That maybe her magic was a sleeping thing when Lily got her letter; and now it’s finally awake. She had internally slapped herself for thinking such foolish things. Even after all these years it haunts her. Comes back to her in full force until the only thing that soothes her is scrubbing the surface of the oven until she feels dizzy from the chemicals.
Petunia is normal. It’s all she’s ever wanted to be and she’ll keep pretending to be happy until she finally is. Until it bloody well sticks.
She doesn’t want anything to do with magic. Ever.
But, a traitiourous voice whipers, what about the twisted pleasure you felt when Mrs. Davenport’s hair fell off right infront of you just last week?
It’s not just the strange things happening, Petunia knows, but she’s pretty certain someone has been watching her, too. There’s a sense of this something wherever she goes, and when she turns around she swears she’s seen a swirl of black wild hair just out of the corner of her eye.
Just out of reach.
She knows that the two are connected, the strange things and the person watching her, because both feel the same. Almost like when Lily would use her magic, but not quite. It feels darker, somehow. There’s something ominous about it. A little bit eerie.
Normal people wouldn’t get excited over it, but Petunia can’t sleep at night because of how hard she tries not to be. She swears there’s a looming shadow in the corner of the bedroom— that someone is standing right there— and she hates herself for hoping she’s right.
She is right, she knows, there’s not a single corner in this house that’s unfamiliar to her. She cleans every surface of it atleast once a week.
Because she’s a good wife.
Because she’s so fucking bored that if she didn’t she’d probably gouge her eye sockets out with a fork.
Normal people wouldn’t send their husband and child away for the weekend just to be alone with the shadow at their back.
Normal people wouldn’t slowly undress and wait for the sinister presence to return— wouldn’t get aroused from being watched by something they can’t watch in return.
And normal people wouldn’t tease their entrance and play around with the wetness there when the sinister presence does return. Wouldn’t gasp desperately into the dark when it feels like it’s looming over them. Wouldn’t rub their clit and arch their back from how they can feel the intruder's eyes on them like a hot brand.
She sees that swirl of black hair when she comes. She sees even darker eyes and almost sickly pale skin. She feels the caress of magic overwhelming her senses as she’s coming back down again. Petunia briefly wonders if imaginary friends are a thing in the wizarding world. She wonders if she might have a guardian angel.
Only, the presence doesn’t feel angelic. It feels wild and full of intent. Maybe she’s got her very own devil on her shoulder.
Petunia snorts and opens her eyes— only to realise she’s not alone; though she’s known that for a while already, even if she hasn’t seen her shadow.
There’s a woman standing at the foot of the bed, a wand pointed at Petunia. A thrill goes through her entire body.
Petunia realises that the woman has the same stormy eyes that she had envisioned. Had remembered. The woman’s eyebrows are knit together and her lips are trembling. Not out of fear, but something equally powerful.
She’s seen this woman before, she knows. Lily had mentioned something once about spells or charms making a person blur into the background to the public.
She knows she’s seen this woman before— and recently; and then she’s forgotten about it. But not entirely. Not without feeling her presence wherever she goes. Not without remembering her eyes.
Petunia looks at her, still naked on the bed. ”Tell me your name,”
The woman says nothing.
”I’ll forget,” Petunia tries, nearly pleads.
A sharp intake of breath. The woman lowers her wand slowly and Petunia shivers.
”Why are you not afraid?” The woman asks instead, voice like red wine as it spills out of her.
”Should I be?”
A pause, and then, ”Bellatrix.”
The room is dark again. There’s a thrum of magic in the air and pale lovely skin behind Petunia’s eyelids.
She falls asleep and dreams about being swept away by something dark and beautiful.

2024 Watch List pt1
Here we go again!
To sir, with love - This is a lakorn so it's appropriately dramatic. The mothers are absolutely foul and do an awful lot of scheming and yelling. Jam/Film are intensely watchable and make wet fish kisses look terribly romantic. Tongtong Kitsakorn as Yang was a revelation. I'm sad he's pm just a lakorn actor/pop star because he is so watchable. I loved that, though they were evil and insane, the mothers all felt fleshed out and realised. You understood why they were yikes. 3½/5 (2/1/23)
A Boss & a Babe - I quit this at episode 2 and then decided to go back to it. I don’t regret doing so. This isn’t top tier but it’s also not shit tier. Cher, the very dictionary definition of toxic positivity, and Gun, an autism coded cat man, enter into an extremely quick romance (like seriously, it’s taken hard worn lesbians longer to say I love you) the catch being they’re intern and company boss. Honestly in another drama that would have been the the huge hiccup of the series, keeping them apart, but it’s consistently shown to be more of an issue for others that it is for them. This is very low conflict, mostly romcom fluff with two weirdly intense, barely explored side stories for support characters. I didn’t loath Force in this and would actually like him to be given more roles where he’s just a soft simp and not a boring sarcastic one. Book does some good comedy work here. 3/5 (4/1/23)
The day I loved you - I know this won’t work for everyone. It’s a bittersweet ten episode love story between a boy with ASL and the ‘rebel’ exchange student at his school. Pinoy BL, for me, either really hits or really misses and this hit. It does use a questionable model of disability, namely the inspiration model, but I cant nit pick too much when this is only ten 15/20 minute episodes. I enjoyed it a lot, you may also if you’re okay with a bittersweet ending vs an out and out happy one. 3½/5 (12/1/24)
VIP Only - Well this was adorable. Slow as molasses and just as sweet. This probably won’t be for everyone, very slow and not much happens other than character growth and a love story, but it worked for me. The edit is horrendous in places and I do wish Taiwan did longer episodes, but those are my only gripes. 3½/5 (19/1/24)
I cannot reach you - I don’t really watch Jbl. There are just styles and tropes that I don’t enjoy watching that Japan uses a lot of. It’s a taste thing more than it is anything else. So keep that in mind. This is full of a lot of the things I don’t like; over action, randomly running everywhere, sudden non-con. But it’s also endearingly sweet and very well acted, so I did find myself enjoying it. I don’t think this’ll awaken a desire to watch lots of Jbl but it has made me consider some others. 3/5 (20/1/24)
Last Twilight - I had a lot of fun with this. The dialogue and acting were all top notch and, as ever with Aof productions, it was stunning to look at. It weaves the story of two broken people healing one another very well with Jimmy & Sea doing beautiful work as Mhok & Day. I think this came a little unstuck at points in the end. I liked most of the romance movie style ending but I remain a little unsure about Day’s ending. Still, this is a show that I enjoyed every week and will have no issues rewatching. 4/5 (26/1/24)
Old Fashion Cupcake - I’m working on trying out more JBL to get a feel for what I do and don’t like. This? This I like. We don’t have enough stories about older people anyway and this does it well. Togawa’s slow courting of Nozue through shared experiences and casual intimacy is delicious to watch. 4/5 (4/2/24)
Pit Babe - I love when I show wholly knows what it is and doesn’t try and be anything but that. This knew it was a big ol’ fanfic and leaned wholeheartedly into that. Whether it was the breeding program subplot or the consistently dumb toothpaste and sausage ppl it handled them both with equal aplomb. It’s also worth noting that was largely really well acted too! Pavel, Nut & Sailub particularly impressed me but there was nobody bad. 4/5 (9/2/24)
Our Dining Table - My journey into JBL continues and this was the best one yet. Soft pining between two sad boy leads with a gorgeous found family story woven in. The treacle slow courting between these two won’t be for everyone but it was wholly for me. 5/5 (17/2/24)
Cooking Crush - The edit on this was criminally bad at points, sometimes I truly felt I’d skipped a part and I hadn’t at all, but it still served up a good little story. If you’re visiting this for the romance it’s not really that, the story is in the friends and their lives more than it is in Ten & Prem’s romance. I loved the comedy in this, it hit those notes well and was never over the top. (Lots of puns that I expect are super good if you speak Thai.) Nobody is bad in this, everyone delivers, but OffGun are as watchable as they always are and the few kisses they do have are perfect. 3/5 (18/2/24)
The Novelist - When I say I don’t love JBL it’s usually because the tropes are just too tropey for my tastes. Apparently I’m a lying liar who lies because this is extremely Japanese and I loved every moody second of it. Kijima is a sad, lonely, messed up man who doesn’t think he’s deserving of anything good and it’s wildly compelling to watch. 4/5 (18/2/24)
Mood Indigo - Fucked up 4 Fucked up. Two broken, sad, lonely men mess up repeatedly, and erotically, that’s it that’s the show and I ate it up with a spoon. Deeply flawed assholes being toxic together, when it’s well written and well acted, is so disgustingly watchable to me and this certainly was. 5/5 (18/2/24)
The Novelist: Playback - Continues where The Novelist ends. I watched the clean version of this, it was what was available to me, and was still deeply entertained. So if you think people watch this series for the heat then you’re incorrect. This is another instalment of Kijima Rio being a horribly broken fuck up of a man. I loved it. 4/5 (21/2/24)
Tokyo in April is… - I love a good destined to be together trope when it’s done well and this is done beautifully. Kazuma and Ren fall in love as teenagers and are separated before finding one another again as adults. The pacing on this is a little rough, I get what they were doing with the sub-plot but it felt mildly unneeded and time would have been better given to exploring our leads generally or even Ren’s painful family issues. This is still a lovely drama that I wholly recommend. 4/5 (21/2/24)
