Outside of Cuba, Palo is generally called Palo Mayombe ; however, this is a misnomer since not all lineages and houses are truly Mayombe – in fact, most are not. To my knowledge there is only one (perhaps a couple) Munanzo outside of Cuba that are accepted as a true Mayombe houses amongst the elders on the Island.

In Cuba, “Palo Monte” is used far more frequently to speak to the entire body of Regla-Kongo Palo tradition. Other terms such as Palo Cruzado (‘crossed palo’, denoting heavy syncretization with other religions), Palo Cristiano (‘Christian palo’) and Palo Judio (‘Jewish palo’, not actually jewish, but simply non-Christian) deserve a brief mention. However, these are not specific ramas of Palo, but rather terms that are used to denote the degree of syncretism and mixing in individual lineages and practices.

There are many houses (munansos) and foundational lineages (ramas) of Palo Monte, but commonly they are understood to fit within three major forms or sub ‘reglas’ within the greater Regla-Kongo:

Mayombe

Biyumba (Vrillumba o Brillumba)

Kimbiza

Palo Mayombe is the oldest and most orthodox form of Palo. The origins trace back to a specific Nkisi cult in the Mayombe region of Cabinda (NW Congo) from where it gets its name and the tradition came into its own in the caves and wilderness of the Pinar del Rio highlands of Cuba. Mayomberos typically shun away from syncretism and are extremely orthodox in our practices. The most well known of the Mayombe houses are the houses of “Batalla Saca Empeño” and “Bejuco Nfinda”.

Palo Biyumba developed out of Palo Mayombe and rose in popularity during Cuba’s war of Independence. It was the first regla to initiate people of non-Bantu ancestry and frequently worked with and developed pacts with dead spirits of no particular blood or spiritual lineage (often times to send them out for warring intentions). It is a vast regla and has many ramas and sub-lineages. Indeed, a great number of houses today are some offshoot of Biyumba. Broadly speaking, Palo Biyumba is more oriented toward the various mpungos and over time some lineages have introduced a degree of syncretization with elements of Ocha and Catholicism.

Palo Kimbisa was popular on the eastern side of the Cuban island and has absorbed many influences from Catholicism to Freemasonry to Haitian Vodou. Kimbisa likely originated within an already syncretized Catholic-Kongo religious tradition from the Kingdom of Kongo following Kimpa Vita’s Christian reform in the 18th C. In Kimbisa the mpungos are paramount and are seen as divinities and saints. Thus, Kimbiseros will venerate the mpungos and focus much of their work calling upon them, instead of upon the dead. The most well known Kimbisa rama is Andrés Petit’s La Regla Kimbisa de Santo Cristo del Buen Viaje.

The Kimbisa prendas/ngangas I have seen also tend to be huge in comparison to Mayombe. Although my elders have reassured me that there are Kimbisa prendas that are built almost identical to Mayombe as there is more variance per house/lineage than across the greater sub-reglas. It is also common to see Kimbisa (as well as Briyumba) prendas with crucifixes. Moreover, many Kimbiseros and Biymberos will make a distinction between prendas judias or prendas ndoki(those without crucifixes and containing the bones of non-baptized individuals) used to curse, kill, and other malefica; and prendas cristianas (with cross and baptized nfumbe) used to heal and general benefica. This distinction does not appear in Mayombe.

it’s a sweltering hot night, so of course i’m watching ecw hardcore tv. taz was cuttig a promo on sabu, saying he’s disloyal because instead of being there in ecw fighting him, sabu was in “90000 miles away in japan, kissing baba’s ass”, which elicited a chant of “FUCK SABU” from the crowd.

this angers taz, and he singles out one memeber of the crowd, before moving on to the crowd as a whole, admonishig them thus: “what gives you the right to chant that about one of my peers, one of my contemporaries? i might say fuck sabu, i might call him a coward or a sellout, but you don’t have that right. not until you’ve trained, come out here, and wrestled in front of a crowd of ungrateful [censored, my guess is shitheads?]”

so good~

(i mean it’s similar to new jack’s promo in smky mountain when he tells any racist rednecks in the crowd to get trained and get in the ring for a match so he can beat them like he owns them, but it’s different enough to still be awesome)

'Semangat kental perjuangannya luar biasa' - Inilah Mat Sabu, Menteri Pertahanan Malaysia

Sekadar perkongsian dari Twitter @hazman92_ yang kini trending. DISEBABKAN nama Mat Sabu (Mohamad Sabu) agak naik dan begitu popular di sosial media dua tiga hari ini, di sini adalah thread serba sedikit mengenai apa yang dilalui oleh Mat Sabu dalam perjalanan politiknya.

Mat Sabu bukanlah seorang strategis macam Rafizi Ramli, bukan seperti sosok Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, bukan juga ada sisi pak lebai. Namun Mat Sabu aka abang Mat terletak dalam kelasnya tersendiri, semangat kental melawan rejim.

Ada sesetengah pendapat mungkin kita setuju dengan Mat Sabu, ada yang mungkin kita tak setuju dengan pendapat dan pendekatan dia. Tetapi satu perkara yang kita kena akui, semangat kental dan ketabahan dia sesuatu yang luar biasa.

Mat Sabu pernah dua kali masuk ISA. 1984-1986 dan 1987-1989. Seorang bekas aktivis ABIM, lalu menyertai PAS dan pernah menjawat jawatan Timbalan Presiden PAS. Pernah dua kali menjadi wakil rakyat Kubang Kerian (1995) dan Kuala Kedah (2004) dan pernah kalah pada tahun 2008. Dia juga pernah digelarkan jebon dalam PAS dan bersama rakan-rakan, dia keluar dan tubuhkan Gerakan Harapan Baru dan kemudiannya menjadi Parti Amanah Negara.

Apa saja Mat Sabu tak pernah rasa? Masuk penjara sudah, kena pukul sudah, kena buang daerah sudah, kena tembak dengan tear gas sudah, kena buang dek parti sendiri sudah, pernah kalah teruk PRU sudah, gerakkan demo sudah, ceramah tak sampai 10 orang pun sudah, ceramah puluhan ribu sudah, bekerjasama dengan orang yang humban dia atas akta ISA pun sudah.

Semuanya demi perjuangan. Berapa puluh tahun dia dah berjuang? Ada politikus yang tak pernah susah dan datang dari kerusi empuk ada hati nak pertikai dia?

Mungkin kita terhibur dengan gelagat dia, seorang pelawak kadang-kadang. Tetapi jatuh bangunnya dia membolehkan dia melihat parti lawan jatuh di depan mata dia dan dia akhirnya menjadi sebahagian daripada menteri kabinet kerajaan. Finally!

Mungkin ada yang tak bersetuju dengan dia, mungkin ada yang tidak menyokongnya. Tapi satu perkara yang kita perlu akui, dialah seorang ‘pahlawan’ yang sebenarnya. Semangat kental dia menjadi satu teladan.

“Kita memang memerlukan Tun Mahathir untuk bimbing kita. Sebab pintu masuk istana pun kita tak tahu kat mana..” sekali baca, kelakar bunyinya, namun maksud tersiratnya. Setelah sekian lama dia berjuang, akhirnya dia berjaya.

Masa Mat Sabu menjadi Ahli Parlimen sekitar era arwah Tun Ghafar Baba sebagai Timbalan Perdana Menteri, dia pernah dipuji oleh arwah sebab kelantangan dia berhujah dalam parlimen. Ada menteri yang pernah takut nak berlawan kelantangan dengannya.

Lim Guan Eng (LGE) dianiaya dan difitnah hanya kerana mempertahankan seorang gadis Melayu yang dirogol menteri, lalu LGE dihumban ke penjara Kajang. Masa LGE dilepaskan dari penjara, antara insan yang menyambut LGE adalah Mat Sabu. Rilek saja dia sambut LGE sambil naik lori.

Selain dari sifat kental Mat Sabu dan semangat yang tidak pernah berputus asa, kita akui Mat Sabu juga mempunyai aura dia yang tersendiri, yang pada pendapat aku sendiri, sebagai satu yang unik. Contohnya gaya penyampaian ceramahnya. Steady Abang Mat. Jadi menteri elok-elok, jangan dok loqlaq sudah. LOL.

1. Pada Ahad 1hb Mac 2020 Malaysia menyaksikan upacara Mengangkat Sumpah Jawatan Perdana Menteri ke 8 (PM8 ) yang berlangsung di Istana Negara 2. Ianya berlaku ekoran perletakan jawatan secara tiba - tiba oleh Tun Dr. Mahathir selaku Perdana Menteri ke 7 selepas memegangnya hanya 22 bulan sahaja 3. Saya tidak berhasrat membicara atau berdebat berbagai teori berhubung tindakan Tun itu 4. Untuk rekod , Tun yang pernah menjawat jawatan tersebut selaku PM ke 4 selama 22 tahun iaitu dari 16hb Julai 1981 ( 6 hari selepas tarikh lahir beliau ke 56 tahun ) hingga 30hb Oktober 2003 , satu rekod yang belum lagi diatasi oleh sesiapa pun 5. Setelah gagal beberapa kali , akhirnya Pembangkang ( PKR , DAP dan AMANAH ) terpaksa meminta Tun yang ketika itu sudah berusia 93 tahun menerajui mereka bagi mengalahkan UMNO / BN pada Pilihanraya ke 14 yang berlangsung pada hari Rabu 9hb Mei 2018 ; buat pertama kali dalam sejarah sejak Merdeka UMNO/ BN dikalahkan 6. Ekoran perlantikan beliau itu , Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (TSM) telah menubuhkan Kabinet nya yang terdiri dari UMNO , PAS , BERSATU , GPS ( Sarawak ) , serpihan dari PKR dan beberapa parti kecil dari Sabah ; juga saya tidak berhasrat berdebat sama ada Kerajaan sekarang 'Mengikut Pintu Depan Atau Pintu Belakang' 7. Walaupun dunia termasuk Negara kita menghadapi wabak Coronavirus atau Covid19 yang amat kritikal ini namun tindakan Dr. Adham Baba selaku Menteri Kesihatan yang baru ini telah mengundang kritikan dan komen - komen negatif terhadap beliau

8. Perlantikan beliau sebagai Menteri Kesihatan yang baru bagi menggantikan Dr. Dzulkifli Ahmad dari AMANAH mungkin berdasarkan kepada pengelaman luas beliau dalam Kerajaan dan Swasta

9. Sebelum dilantik sebagai Setiausaha Parlimen Kementetian Pengajian Tinggi dari tahun 2004 hingga 2008 beliau pernah berkhidmat sebagai Pegawai Khas ( Pendidikan ) di Kementerian Belia dan Sukan 10. Berasal dari Batu Pahat dan pernah berkhidmat sebagai Pegawai Perubatan di Kementerian Kesihatan beliau yang kini mempunyai rangkian klinik di Johor atas nama Klinik Adham pernah juga menjadi Pro Chancelor Universiti KL atau UniKL dan Pengurusi UniKL Medical Services 11. Pada mulanya rakyat merasa lega apabila beliau yang mempunyai Ijazah Sarjana Perubatan dan Pembedahaan ( MBBS ) dan pengelaman luas dipilih menerajui Kementerian tersebut namun rupa - rupanya bukan sahaja tak seindah apa yang diharapkan tapi ia lebih memburukan nama baik Kementerian dan Kerajaan 12. Cadangan beliau semasa temubual di Station TV tidak lama dulu cara mengubati wabak Covid 19 dengan hanya meminum air suam telah mengundang begitu banyak kritikan 13. Bukan sahaja rakyat yang meluahkan kemarahan dan kebencian terhadap Dr. Adham malah Kementerian Kesihatan sendiri menolak kaedah yang di cadangkan nya itu 14. Jika cadangan Menteri Kesihatan ini boleh mengatasi wabak ini dengan cara yang di cadangkan nya itu berkesan maka tak perlu lagi negara - negara seperti Amerika Syarikat , China , Jepun , Australia dan banyak lagi bermatian mencari ubat yang sesuai

Jika berjaya , beliau bukan lagi patut di nobatkan dengan Nobel Peace Prize bahkan dilantik sebagai Ketua Pengarah atau Pengurusi Organasi Kesihatan Sedunia atau World Health Organisation ( WHO ) , Bangsa - Bangsa Bersatu atau United Nations ( UN ) 16. Mungkin rakyat sanggup menunggu sebulan lagi bagi melihat keberkesanan MINUM AIR SUAM yang dianjurkan beliau bagi mengatasi wabak tersebut atau mungkin beliau bercadang memperkenalkan keadah lain seperti menggunakan khidmat bomoh yang menggunakan kelapa dan buluh meneropong kuman Coronavirus atau Covid 19

Dengan kelulusan , kepakaran dan pengelaman luas yang ada pada Dr.Adham Baba PM 8 tidak salah melantik beliau sebagai Menteri Kesihatan , namun jika sekiranya cadangan beliau itu merupakan cadangan bodoh dan tak masuk akal yang pasti akan terus mengundang kritikan maka Muhyiddin hanya tinggal satu pilihan - tanpa berlengah memecat beliau dari menggotai Kabinet 18. Pemecatan beliau samalah seperti pemecatan Osman Sapian atau lebih dikenali sebagai Man Datsun dan penggantinya Dr. Shahrudin Jamal yang baru belajar menjadi MB Johor yang kebetulan dari Parti BERSATU juga , dan jawatan itu pula tiba-tiba di serahkan dengan dulang mas kepada UMNO yang telah dihumbankan oleh rakyat Johor pada PRU yang baru lepas 19. Inilah yang dikatakan oleh Mat Sabu, Pengurusi AMANAH, 'Yang Kalah Jadi Kerajaan Yang Menang Jadi Pembangkang' 20. Pemecatan seseorang Menteri adalah kuasa mutlak PM - Muhyiddin dan Shafie Apdal sendiri TELAH di pecat oleh Najib sebagai Timbalan Perdana Menteri dan Menteri Pembangunan Negara atas isu rompakan wang 1MDB 21. Begitu juga cadangan Muhyiddin memecat Marzuki Yahya selaku Setiausaha Agong Parti BERSATU dan menggantikan nya dengan Hamzah Zainuddin ( walau pun Perlembagaan BERSATU tidak memberi cheque kosong atau blank cheque kepada Presiden Parti bertindak sesuka hati tanpa terlebih dulu berunding dengan Pengurusi Parti ,Tun ) 22. DAP adalah parti politik yg berdaftar dan sah disisi undang2 M'sia dan layak bertanding bersama2 parti2 yg lain sama juge spt MCA/MIC/GERAKAN... DAP adalah modal yg paling laris paling mujarab digunapakai utk menakut2kan org melayu yg kurang mngambil tahu suasana politik di M'sia.. DAP hanya bertanding di tmpt bkn kwsn majority melayu dan lawan mereka biasanya dari MCA/MIC atau GERAKAN.. Andai kata hari ini DAP mngiystiharkan keluar dari PH dan pergi bekerjasama dgn PN adakah penolakan akan berlaku dari pihak PN ??? Jwpnnya sudah tentu ada .. Kita sedia maklum DAP mnyumbang sekurang2nya 50 lebih kerusi dpd 222 kerusi yg dipertndingkan .. Satu angka yg agak besar dan kita juga tahu MIC/MCA dan GERAKAN tidak diterima oleh pngundi2 bukan Melayu.. Hanya di tmpat kawsan majority melayu pamimpin MCA/GERAKAN boleh menang dgn bergaya.. Hakikatnya politik di M'sia ini bergantung kpd kerusi2 bukannya undi popular spt di Amerika. Kelebihan 1 kerusi sudah cukup utk menjadi kerajaan... Kesimpulannya , jika DAP boleh memberi jumlah kerusi yg agak besar sumbangannya utk kemenangan , rasanya mana2 parti tidak akan menolak utk bekerjasama malah menerima dgn tangan terbuka.. Cuma DAP perlu di washing mechinekan dicuci utk mmbersihkn imej mereka yg telah dimomok2 kan sebagai anti melayu.. Apa pun boleh terjadi dlm politik kita.. Kerajaan Kelantan telah umum RM 1 Juta peruntukan Zakat Asnaf, bagi hanya 50 orang peruntukan bagi satu Dun, setiap orang akan terima barang bernilai Rm 100.. apa hanya 50 orang setiap DUN ? Amboi.. beli Mercedes dekat harga sejuta, sampai 14 biji.. Tolak cukai pun dekat 5 Juta..Asnaf cuma RM 1 juta jer peruntukan...Apakah ini dikatakan penyelesaian Islam? Di Pulau Pinang semalam..badan Zakat umumkan RM 3 juta untuk Asnaf.. Jumlah muslim dan orang Melayu di Pulau Pinang jauh lebih kecil dari Kelantan, tak kira dari jumlah atau peratusan.. Populasi Muslim di Pulau Pinang cuma 44%, manakala Kelantan 96 %.. The Hunt For 3,800 Tabligh Religious Members – Where Are Hadi Awang and Zakir Naik When We Need Them The Most?...

Two days ago (March 23), Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob confirmed what many people have been suspected – the police was still tracking down about 3,800 members who attended a “Tabligh” religious gathering that had taken place at a Sri Petaling mosque – Masjid Jamek – in Kuala Lumpur from February 28 and March 1. The rally was attended by an estimated 16,000 people. On March 15, Malaysia was stunned when a record was created in new Covid-19 cases – a whopping 190 new patients. That roughly matched the typical 14-day incubation period of the virus. Neighbouring countries – Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines – have all reported new Coronavirus cases traceable to their citizens who participated in the religious event. As feared, the massive gathering has transformed the country as the epicentre of Coronavirus in the Southeast Asia region. Today, the death toll reached 19 people with 1,796 confirmed infected cases. But just 4 days ago, the four-day religious “Tabligh” event had contributed only 714 cases (out of 1,183 cases) in Malaysia – 60% of the total – and at least 840 across Southeast Asia. Yesterday (March 24), out of 1,624 confirmed cases, a whopping 986 cases were linked to the religious gathering – 60%. That means the participants consistently contributes about two-thirds of the Covid-19 cases in the country. Therefore, it’s of paramount importance that the authorities use whatever means necessary to get the “stubborn” Tabligh members for screening. Ismail Sabri, who is also the Defense Minister, claimed the police had a list of the names of all the tabligh members, including 1,500 foreigners. He said – “These 3,800 tabligh members are not only Malaysians but also Rohingyas and illegal immigrants. They (illegal immigrants) do not have to fear coming to hospitals for the health screening even if they do not have travel documents.” If it’s true that the police already have in their possession of all the names of the members, why is it so hard to track them down as if those religious fanatics are more skillful than terrorists in evading the authorities? It has been more than 3 weeks since the gathering ended on March 1 and 19 people have died, but the authorities appeared to be powerless against them.

Zakir Naik and Hadi Awang

Instead of worrying about the high-risk targets of religious members who potentially could spread the virus, the police have been busy blowing their trumpet about declining crime rate and the number of arrests of MCO (movement control order) defaulters. The authorities should stop pussyfooting and start treating the “missing” religious members as a threat to national security, no? In fact, the matter was so critical that even Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah had also urged participants who had attended the tabligh event at the Sri Petaling mosque, but who were still stubborn by not getting tested, to come forward to be diagnosed. Are the police trying to be soft on them because it involves the sensitive issue of religion? To make matters worse, the Muhyiddin government is now facing the issue of distrust from the Rohingyas and illegal immigrants. That’s because they do not have travel documents. Exactly how could the illegal immigrant trust that they would not be blacklisted for deportation at a later stage upon surrendering to the authorities for health screening? Amusingly, the massive influx of Rohingyas and illegal immigrants into the country started during the era of the previous Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition, who has now returned to the federal government after Muhyiddin launched a coup to topple his own government and invited the corrupt BN regime together with extreme Islamist party PAS to form the backdoor Perikatan Nasional government. Perhaps the incompetent government has overlooked a common factor that regardless whether they were Malaysians, Rohingyas or illegal immigrants, all of the participants at the Sri Petaling’s event were there due to religious reason. Therefore, why don’t Hadi Awang, president of Islamist party PAS, plays his influential role to convince the 3,800 tabligh members to surrender? Yes, Hadi Awang appears to have become a fisherman after he failed to get any minister portfolio in Muhyiddin’s Cabinet. As the leader of the powerful Islamist political party that commanded the support of 2-million Malay-Muslims, how difficult could it be for Hadi Awang to issue a fatwa (edict) to compel tabligh members to go to the nearest screening centre?

Mr. Hadi has been as quiet as a church mouse since the explosive outbreak of Coronavirus traceable to the religious gathering in Kuala Lumpur. As part of the backdoor Perikatan Nasional government, it’s strange that Hadi hadn’t helped to persuade tabligh members to do the right thing, considering the extremist leader had previously played the religious card to achieve his goal. Was Hadi Awang sulking after PM Muhyiddin Yassin refused to appoint him as the deputy prime minister? Perhaps the holy man was powerless himself since he could not explain why a sacred place like a mosque could become the epicentre of Coronavirus. Too bad DAP is no longer in the government, hence the Chinese-dominated party cannot be blamed for the pandemic. But even without Hadi Awang, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin could easily use Indian Muslim hate preacher Zakir Naik to rally the stubborn tabligh members to come forward to be screened for the virus. After all, supporters of Zakir claimed that the Islamic icon has converted hundreds of millions of people to Islam. That speaks volumes about how powerful Zakir Naik is. Surely a talented preacher like Zakir could cook up some self-made rhetoric – even warning from the God – that if the tabligh participants still refuse to be screened, their 72 virgins will be forfeited. That would certainly scare the heck out of the stubborn members. It’s hard to imagine why Rohingyas and illegal immigrants cannot fully trust a great Islamic icon like Zakir Naik. Mr. Zakir Naik, a permanent resident of Malaysia has previously said the Malaysian Chinese aren’t born in the country so they, as the “old guests”, must go back to China first before he (the “new guest”) can be asked to leave. The fugitive preacher had also questioned Malaysian Hindu’s loyalty to former PM Mahathir. And Mahathir had continued to harbour and protect him. Yes, where are the holy men like Hadi Awang and Zakir Naik when the pandemic-plagued country needs them the most? We don’t need them to explain why mosques and Muslim countries are not protected from the virus. We just need them to persuade, sweet-talk and convince the potential virus carrier to surrender so that they can be tested and quarantined (if infected). - FT

Kasatresnarkoba Polres Sergai AKP Martualesi Sitepu SH MH, Rabu (19/12) kepada wartawan menyebutkan, dari penangkapan tersebut, pihaknya menemukan 1 kantung kain warna hitam berisi 11 paket sabu yang terbungkus plastik klip, 1 bungkus plastik klip berukuran besar berisi sabu, dan 1 bal plastik klip kosong. “Total barang bukti sabu 0,95 gram,” jelasnya.

Kepada penyidik, Joni mengaku sabu seberat 0,95 gram itu miliknya yang dibelinya seharga Rp850 ribu dari Zulham Efendi (36) alias Baba warga Lingkungan Pasiran, Kelurahan Simpang Tiga Pekan, Kecamatan Perbaungan.

Kemudian penggerebekan dilakukam di kediaman Zulham Efendi alias Baba. Saat itu Baba sedang memindahkan posisi sepeda motornya. Penggeledahan di rumah Baba dilakukan dan menemukan 1 plastik klip berisikan sabu di atas meja makan.

Saat pemeriksaan, kata Martualesi, Zulham mengaku sudah 1 tahun lebih menjual sabu. Target penjualan sebanyak 15 gram sabu, dalam hitungan 1 sampai 2 hari setiap penjualan. Dari hasil penjualan Zulham meraup keuntungan sekitar Rp25 ribu pergram.

Dari kedua sudah diamankan barang bukti 13 paket sabu dengan total 0,95 gram, 2 HP dan uang Rp100 ribu. “Kini keduanya telah kita dijebloskan ke sel tahanan Satnarkoba Polres Sergai. Kedua tersangka dijerat dengan pasal 114 ayat (2) jo pasal 112 ayat (2) UU No. 35/2009 tentang narkotika dengan ancaman hukuman di atas 5 tahun penjara,” pungkas Martualesi.(ts-18)

Tujuan utama DAP adalah untuk memenangi pengundi Melayu. Bagi Kit Siang secara peribadi, kerjasama dengan Mahathir bertujuan untuk menghapus imejnya sebagai anti-Melayu dan anti-Islam. Tetapi apa yang gagal difahami oleh Kit Siang ialah orang Melayu dapat merasakan bahawa mereka sedang digunakan oleh DAP. 7. Ianya bukanlah rahsia lagi bahawa undi untuk Pakatan adalah undi untuk DAP, dan bukannya untuk PKR, PAN atau PPBM. DAP adalah kuasa sebenar di sebalik pembangkang. Fire Pro Roster Recap #2 : Fire Pro Wrestling Combination Tag

People seemed to enjoy the first one of these, so I thought I’d do it again! This time instead we are going back to basics. This time looking at the very first game in the series that released on the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16.

It has the smallest roster of the series as far as I know which is part of the reason I decided to do it next. Fire Pro Returns, I think has over 100 people in it and even some of the SNES games have huge rosters.

This one will be a good building block for later installments which retained many of these people that appeared in this 1989 original. I should point out that most of these games were not official and had these people under fake names, despite it being plainly obvious who they were suppose to be representing.

Akira Maeda : A wrestler who worked for many companies and is credited with being one of the pioneers of the shoot style. He worked for NJPW, Japan UWF(Which he co-created and was a promoter for) and he was even featured on World of Sports working for all 3 of those companies in the 80′s before 1991 rolled around Akira Maeda would found the wrestling promotion Rings, that would later shift focus in 1995 and become an MMA promotion.

Bad News Brown : The first talent on this list who was well known in North America. Bad News Brown was a pioneer for black talent in the industry often times called the first black heel. While that might be hyperbole, Bad News Brown’s effect on the industry should be well noted. He was most often a wrestler in NJPW starting there after his Olympic performance in Judo where he won a Bronze medal in 1976. He also won 2 gold medals in the Pan American games in 1967 and 1975.

Bruiser Brody : Another wrestler known by North American fans. He worked throughout the states and over in AJPW. He is a pioneer of the brawling style and considered one of the best if not the best brawler of the 80′s. Of course he cannot be brought up without talking about his tragic death in 1988 when he was stabbed several times by José Huertas González(promoter/booker) in a Puerto Rican shower for the show that night. One of the brave souls that tried to help Brody out was Tony Atlas, though because of heavy traffic outside the arena Brody didn’t get the medical treatment in time to save his life.

Dos Caras : The first person on this list who has wrestled a match in 2017. Dos Caras is a legend of Mexican wrestling and one of the first talents from Mexico to travel outside of North America and wrestle regularly elsewhere. Throughout the 80′s he wrestled in AJPW and NJPW while also working with UWA. He also innovated the Dos Cara’s clutch. He is brother to the other luchador in this game(Mil Mascara) and father to one of the biggest names from Mexico of the current generation Alberto Del Rio/El Patron.

Antonio Inoki : Oh boy! Inoki, how can I sum up such a massive and important career in a paragraph? Truth be told I can’t for him or any of these men, but here we go. Inoki is one of the most important wrestlers ever and is credited with the invention of the enzuigiri. When Inoki started down the wrestling path he train with Karl Gotch in old school catch wrestling. Inoki would name his own style of wrestling ‘Strong Style’ which is still used today by many Japanese talents.

Inoki is also credited as being a forefather of the modern MMA boom. Inoki use to fight people from around the world who all were trained in different fighting arts. Many of his fights were scripted, but still showed the world was interested in that kind of competition. Also, he fought Ric Flair in North Korea which drew 150,000 and 190,000 people for the two day event and is still the biggest wrestling show in recorded history.

I could go on for ages about Inoki as he has a long intriguing history. He ontop of the above listed things also was : founder of NJPW in 1972 which came about after Rikidozan’s(The original Japanese Wrestler/Promoter) Japanese Wrestling Association went defunct having NJPW/AJPW spring up in it’s place. Inoki owned NJPW out right until he sold the company to Yuke’s in 2005. Inoki is also a politician in his home country of Japan where he was elected to positions twice. That’s all for Inoki, if you want to know more feel free to look him up. I’d be surprised if there wasn’t books about the man who has a huge legacy.

Genichiro Tenryu : Genichiro like many wrestlers actually started in a different Martial Art. Sumo, which is of course very popular in Japan. Tenryu started his sumo training at the young age of 13 and would continue down that path for another 13 years before shifting his focus to the Puroresu ring. He would then be scouted by Giant Baba of AJPW. Tenryu would be sent over to Texas where he was trained by Dory Funk Jr and Terry Funk. In the early 80′s Tenryu would team with Jumbo Tsuruta collectively called "Kakuryu" (鶴 = kaku = tsuru (the "tsuru" in Tsuruta) + 龍 = ryū in Tenryū).

Tenryu would go on to become one of the most decorated players in AJPW history. The Tokyo Sports awards, a non partisan award for japanese wrestling achievements would give Tenryu Best bout/MOTY award an astonishing 9 times and call him MVP of the year 4 different times.

Jumbo Tsuruta : Another huge star for AJPW through the 80′s. Jumbo as mentioned above was a stellar tag team with Tenryu. He also had 7 MOTY’s from Tokyo sports and captured nearly anything of note in AJPW. He would sadly die in the year 2000 after complications from a kidney transplant, just short a year after his retirement in 1999. Though he hadn’t been in serious competition most of the 1990′s where he mostly worked 6 man tag matches that were comedic in tone.

Masa Saito : The journey man of Japan on this list, though many of these talents traveled around. Masa Saito was on another level working for various promotions connected to NWA, AJPW and NJPW.

As well as holding the WWF Tag Titles with Mr. Fuji, he also made it to the finals of the Pat O'Connor Memorial Tag Team Tournament at Starrcade '90: Collision Course which is noteable for being the big win early in the Steiner Brothers tag team. He is also the innovator of the Saito Suplex which is used in every promotion around the world now.

Saito might have had a better career with WWF had it not been for an incident at a Mcdonald's involving Ken Panterra and a rock thrown through the window by a young man that wasn’t Ken Panterra according to a radio interview with Panterra from 2012. The incident happened in 1984 and ended with both Panterra and Saito being charged with battery of a police officer.

Mil Mascaras : The other side of the Luchador coin and brother of earlier luchador Dos Caras. Mil Mascaras wrestled plenty for AJPW through the late 70′s and early 80′s becoming well known in Japanese wrestling circles along with his brother. He would have a match of the year from Tokyo sports in 1977 with Jumbo who was listed earlier. Mil Mascaras has a reputation of being hard to work with, but is still important for exposing Japan to Lucha Libre alongside his brother.

Riki Choshu : Riki Choshu innovated a move that would define early 90′s wrestling in the states and most don’t even know it. That move being The Sharpshooter or as Riki Choshu called it : Sasori-gatame.

Riki Choshu is also credited as being the first ever traitor heel in Japan. Turning on his friend Fujinami after being snubbed for the inaugural tournament for the IWGP Heavyweight championship in 1983. Riki Choshu is also one of the few people to do a clean sweep of the G1 Climax where he won every match in the tournament he had.

In 1998 Riki Choshu would retire, his final card he wrestled 5 matches in one night and won 4 of them. After his retirement he would focus more as a booker at NJPW where he spent most of his career. He has moved a decent amount post 2000 and even had a deathmatch in FMW shortly after his retirement. He has wrestled sparingly in the years since, but not full time.

Stan Hansen : You can’t talk gaijin(Japanese for Foreigner) and not mention Stan Hansen. The cream of the crop when it comes to American assholes in Japan. The man’s career started with a very good case of ‘turning Lemons into Lemonade’ when he accidently broke Bruno Sammartino’s neck via a botched powerslam. The bookers and Hansen rolled with it and instead claimed the break came at the end of one of Stan Hansen’s destructive lariats.

Stan Hansen would leave WWF shortly after that and have a brief run in NJPW where he participated in the first ever G1 Tag League with his partner Hulk Hogan.

He would move over to AJPW where he would make his name winning anything he could get his hands on. He also was awarded MOTY 3 times by Tokyo sports vs great talents Kawada, Giant Baba and Tenryu. He would also win Most Outstanding Foreigner in 1982 and most popular wrestler in 1980. He by no means invented the lariat, but many credit him with it’s incredible popularity in Japan.

Tiger Jeet Singh : Undoubtable the most famous wrestler to ever come out of India. Tiger’s life story is pretty incredible, arriving in Canada with 6$ in his pocket after immigrating from India. Tiger set out into the wrestling world and made perhaps the earliest debut on this list in 1965. His first huge match was in 1971 at Maple Leaf Gardens vs The Sheik(uncle of Sabu, not The Iron Sheik).

The next year while visiting Japan he got in a fight with Inoki. This seems a little too coincidental, as apparently it wasn’t staged. So Inoki... who just happened to be opening a wrestling promotion had Tiger come and they lived out their feud in the ring. 1979 saw Tiger team with Abdullah the butcher vs the Japanese Dream Team Inoki/Baba. Which would win him his only Tokyo Sports honor for MOTY.

Through most of his career Tiger would bounce back and forth between Japan and Toronto wrestling in both territories. He made his name in NJPW, however many of the belts he held weren’t the main belt as his era didn’t have one main world title.

The Road Warriors/LOD : WHAAAAAAT A RUSH! The two tag team technicians would get their start in Georgia Championship Wrestling before getting pushed hard for their unique look and presence. This caused some friction with other talents as the young duo weren’t seen as having paid their dues. Not that it mattered though as soon both were picked up by larger promotion Verne Gagne’s AWA. Where they would be Champions again as they were in GCW, during this AWA run they would start using Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” as their entrance theme.

1985 saw the two’s first tour of Japan where they quickly became fan favorites like every promotion they went to before. They squashed a monster team of Killer Khan and Animal Hamaguchi in a mere 4 minutes. Cementing their dominance early and capturing more tag gold the NWA International Tag Team Championship. They would be the last team to hold this belt as they lost it in a unification match with PWF World Tag Team champions Jumbo Tsuruta and Yoshiaki Yatsu to unify the titles as the AJPW World Tag Team titles.

That’s basically what they did of note in Japan before this game came out. They enjoyed that first run so much that whenever they had time between contracts with the big 3 : WWE/WCW/AWA they would go do a quick tour of Japan where they were normally welcomed with open arms. They like Hansen won an award just for foreigners in 1985 getting the Tokyo sports Special Foreigner Award.

The Gasper Brothers : This one I put last mostly because I have shit all to say about them. The Gasper Brothers were a brief tag team in 1988 that had some success. The two men were Cowboy Bob Orton and his real life brother Barry Orton. I can’t find any photos of them from this time or video so I don’t know if they looked like this or not. If anyone can find pictures I’ll put them here.

How's it play? Not well. I wouldn’t suggest anyone play this fire pro game... I’m not actually sure I’d recommend any of the TurboGrafix-16 versions when the Super Nintendo ones are right there. Hell, I think many wouldn’t even suggest those when the PS2 version Fire Pro Returns has probably the biggest roster and the most options.

Still, while I had fun playings Queen’s Special... this one was just brutal. Every time I tried to play I would just get wrecked by the computer. I really had a hard time getting any of the timing down and was more frustrated than having fun.

This series still might be the best wrestling you’ll get on a TurboGrafix-16 and would probably be cool to have just as a collector's item even if it’s not a very fun play. I saw that TurboGrafix has some other wrestling game and I might try that as it seemed less simulation and more arcade. If I try that I may put a review here on this blog.
