The 'Enjoying watch you suffer' line in Broadcast has always been hard to pin down; Tim's leg getting broken is the biggest incident in Entry #35, so it's natural to want to tie the two together, but it seems to fit so indelicately into what we know about the timeline of totheark's internal relationship that it almost causes more problems than it resolves. However, even though it's very blink and miss it, Tim does actually manage to stab Alex in the arm before he gets knocked down -- we hear Alex cry out in pain, can see blood on the blade when Jay picks it up, and then in the recovered corrupted footage from that tape that Jay posts as Entry #36 Alex says "I did what I had to... he'd just stabbed me" -- and that injury being what totheark was trying to call attention to, to me, reads a lot more clear and consistent than anything else does
#N posts stuff#marble hornets#it's so hard to figure out lol bc Tim's leg is The Thing so it feels like they should be linked but like it just doesn't seem to flow#and the timeline of s2 is so mangled by the mix mash and retreading ground of all the tapes#ie; Present!Jay uploading Past!Jay's (and Past!Alex's) tapes and commenting on them while Present!TTA responds to both#that it's hard to figure out if TTA is still working together in that Present!Time or if it's Only in the old tapes and they fell out like#Immediately after Jay got the code for the safe from them - which is Possible? We do know that Tim and Brian separated#like Right after they'd managed to separate Jay and Jess but IDK if that separation would account for the kind of anger implied in#the sentiment 'enjoying watching you suffer' you know? And Jay doesn't get Tim's medical records until s3 - which we KNOW#is the Final Death Knell in TTA's relationship and i don't think Brian would have sat on those for so long so i feel like he hadn't#found them by this point in s2 - that must have come later. so That makes this line feel so out of place in their relationship#BUT if Brian is paying more attention to Alex than Tim at this point then it makes A Lot more sense if it's directed at him#and since the creators Specifically included that corrupted footage that makes Sure to get 'he stabbed me' clear in audio AND#in Jay's subtitles - I wonder if that's an attempt to draw attention to that injury and maybe clarify the TTA upload a little bit?#OR you know maybe I'm reading into it all too much but hey. with this series that's actually a pretty solid living so#mh lb#i'm rewatching bc i'm about to start giving the Bleed More fic another attempt at getting finished and finalized so. keep an eye out :3c

First post and random rant but regardless I shall continue. Okay so I like I was thinking back on the progression of my ongoing Internet horror phase and how my relationship to it has changed over the years specifically the Creepypasta/Slenderverse aspect of it. Running down the timeline would be interesting in and of itself at least from my perspective but it would be way too lengthy so I'm just going to talk about one of my favorite tidbits on it. Specifically how I got into Marble Hornets.
So I guess the best place to start is by the point I even heard of Marble Hornets I had already been into Creepypasta for a bit at that point and I only was aware of the fanon versions of Hoody and Masky. Basically fanon versions in a nutshell are the quiet shy uwu soft boy who is best friends with the blue eyed cheesecake obsessed twink looking ass who is essentially Dwight Schrute but lame and they work for Slenderman willingly and they're totally loyal to him (this is not at all accurate fuck the fanon versions).
Basically one day when I was doing character research and checked the wikis for them it turns out they were from a series called Marble Hornets and Marble Hornets kept being referenced when I was consuming content. So eventually I stumbled upon a video compiling the full series and I watched the first few entries without any context to the story and then I immediately dipped out because I was too scared. I had a very low fear tolerance at the time hence the reason why I dipped out.
Essentially from then on I kept ignoring the existence of Marble Hornets until I would like to say 2 or 3 years later I started reading headcanons of characters and one of them was a mixture of Creepypasta and Marble Hornets this caused me to slowly incorporate stuff into my characters and universe is also an entire other rant that I'm not going into detail on. This is what caused me to learn of Jay's and Alex's existence as I really did not pay attention to the first few entries I watched of the series. Over time as I used characters from Marble Hornets without actually watching it. It became more and more apparent to me that I actually needed to eventually get into it.
I remembered how long it was from when I was a kid and I didn't want to spend 9 hours of my time on it so instead I looked up and explained the series and lo and behold I found Night Minds explained. So late one night I watched all of it and I was enthralled this was one of the best pieces of Internet horror that I have consumed to date. The story was cohesive, The characters were compelling, and The horror was good even while watching the summarized version I was able to be disturbed. but this is also how I realized two things how really different Masky/Tim and Hoody/Brian were from there fanon counterparts and I had been portraying them incredibly inaccurately this entire time and that Jay had been completely fucking ignored by anyone who was not watched Marble Hornets that was a shame because I love his character.
This revelation was huge for me at the time and this caused a giant hyperfixation on Marble Hornets. And it entirely shifted how I created my stories and how I had characters interact. It also introduced me to the existence of ARGs. Like I had watched videos on horror series before but I had never heard of an ARG up to this point so I was intrigued. That is an entire other can of worms so I will just stop it there and continue on talking about my experience with my Marble Hornets.
Regardless after that point I would introduce Marble Hornets whoever I could I used the Night Mind explained series to show people it rather than watching the actual series though I have to embarrassingly admit that I did not actually watch the entire series on the original channel. In fact I had not watched Marble Hornets in its full until recently.
For a long time while doing research on marble Hornets I had heard about news of follow-Ups such as Clear Lakes 44 which by this point is now canceled and I have not watched at all. About a year after this I heard about ECKVA as well, but I haven't bothered watching it because it was on pause and I don't want to get into something that I know is not going to have a continuation for a while if ever. But who knows, maybe I'll watch it eventually.
Soon after I heard about the comics I just couldn't find anywhere to read them. And there were three times I would do searches before I finally got my hands on the comics. My first search started with searching for comic dubs at the comics on YouTube but then I did not find any so I soon gave up and didn't revisit the search. The second time I tried I eventually found the comics actually existed through searches on Amazon but I wasn't able to find listings for the physical copies just copies through Amazon Kindle. It wasn't until the third time looking into this that I finally found the website and due to having the financial means to purchase the first comic I soon purchased it and waited for its arrival. By the time I had purchased the comics I had watched the summarized series from Night Mind on YouTube about three times. I read the comics over the course of a few months and had finally finished reading them around February of this year.
So very recently a few weeks ago I was showing another one of my friends Marble Hornets. I again used The Night Mind summarized series but slowly over the course of rewatching the series I had another realization. I owned all the comics, was incredibly into the series, and talked about it all the time but I had never watched the original in it's full which gave me a crisis and made me feel like a fake fan. So after I had that entire crisis a week later I finally bit the bullet and decided to watch the full series in its entirety for the first time.
I sat down and was preparing myself for a long 9-hour binge and expected it to be a lot to get through. It turned out not to be though I got through it over the course of a week. Watched season 1 in one day, Season 2 in about 2 days, and watched season 3 over the course of 4 days. Now I'm here. I can confidently say I have watched Marble hornets in its entirety. Honestly Night Mind was right. The best experience is watching it on your own and not using his as a substitute like I did. I was intimidated by how there were tweets to follow along with and codes but If you watch the series on YouTube with all the entries and To The Ark videos it's a pretty easy and comprehensible story to follow without the tweets.
So yeah that's my experience getting into Marble Hornets I have watched the series either five times or One time and four times on the abbreviated one. For anyone reading this thank you for taking interest in my shitty ramblings on the experience of how I got into Marble Hornets I hope this was interesting at the very least.
A lot of me watching Marble Hornets was also me doing research on how to accurately portray characters in like personal AU/Story I have on Creepypasta and Marble Hornets. I doubt anyone would want to hear about that but if people do I guess I might talk about it if there's enough interest. But I doubt this post will get any attention since it's Tumblr.

I’ve talked about how the misconception of hoodie and masky as proxies clashes with the plot of marble hornets before and how the implications of them being interpreted as proxies impacts the themes of tim’s characterization and storyline. (link) that said, I’ve noticed that even people who Know they aren’t proxies still tend to interpret them as more violent or antagonistic than they really are, sometimes still interpreting them as working for or being controlled by the operator.
so ! I wrote up a manifesto rambling on about my thoughts on why hoodie and masky come off as more threatening than they actually are, on what the operator’s influence actually is, and on masky’s role is as an alter. I’m putting it under a readmore for length ! so warning for major spoilers under the cut.
as a note, this is all based on my own understanding of the series, I don’t want to have to write “in my opinion” after everything I say so I’m saying it here fjlsdk
but to start with, I wanna address the idea of hoodie and masky (and even alex) being puppeted by the operator.
troy has gone out of his way to state multiple times that there are no proxies in marble hornets specifically to counter the notion that the operator has direct control of the characters’ actions at any point. the operator can affect people’s moods, their perception of reality, but it can’t puppet people’s actions. They’re in control of themselves even if they aren’t thinking clearly or rationally.
compare jay and alex. they were both unmedicated throughout the series (for the most part), and there’s evidence to suggest that jay was affected by the operator all the way back during the marble hornets shoot (he mentions how cold he feels just like tim, and he doesn’t remember alex’s change in behavior in the present at all), but they both were in Very different places mentally. it isn’t fair to just say that alex was more Violent than jay, we didn’t see much of him pre-operator but we were meant to get the idea that he was just a normal guy, but he had a very different reaction to the operator’s influence.
likewise, brian and tim were both taking medication throughout the series and Very Obviously had different reactions to the operator’s influence (brian self isolating and giving into paranoia while tim tried Very hard to live a normal life and get better despite his lack of support).
if the operator could just control people’s actions then the differences in their personalities and environments wouldn’t have mattered. why bother creating an alter that’s less openly violent than alex was? why leave jay to be self destructive but ultimately harmless when he was vulnerable for so long? if the alters and changes in behavior were caused by a Direct influence by the operator, controlling what they Do rather than just how they feel, then they All should’ve been as murderous as alex was.
personally? I see masky as a protector that stemmed from tim’s childhood trauma. we don’t know exactly what happened for sure, like tim said we’ll never know if what he experienced was the operator or his own schizophrenia or both (or if the difference even matters), but we Do know that from his perspective he was locked in a room with a monster with nowhere to go and with no one to help him. the people who were Supposed to take care of him (his parents, his doctors) were the ones confining him there and he didn’t have anyone else in his life (brian was his first friend). that’s Plenty of reason for DID to occur naturally !
masky’s job as a protector would be to get tim (and the people important to him depending on the situation) away from danger by either fighting or running away, because tim didn’t Have the power to help himself when he needed it. moreover, that’d explain why masky tends to front in response to seizures and being Taken by the operator, it’d be to protect tim from whatever caused the pain (whether it can actually be protected against or not) And to deal with painful memories ! it’s a trauma response because masky exists in response To trauma and tim’s inability to cope with what happened to him on his own
so ! why does masky come off as so intimidating if he’s supposed to be a protector? because he was supposed to ! out of universe, the series was presented out of order with jay getting bits and pieces of what happened to slowly pull together a more complete narrative. hoodie and masky were written to Look like antagonists the first time through (in the same way that alex looked more sympathetic in the beginning), but slowly putting the pieces together makes their actual goals clearer as well as adds context to situations that made them look bad because of how they were presented in release order. this isn’t a failing of the storytelling by any means, we thought they were threatening because Jay thought they were threatening !
and well, in universe obviously part of it is that hoodie and masky are, you know, running around wearing masks and acting shady, especially when you have no idea who they are or what they want. But a lot of times their actions Seem threatening but can either be explained by them purposefully appearing threatening to try to scare jay away from danger/into helping someone Or can be explained by them being affected by the operator in the same way that jay and alex were (more on that later :3c)
this distinction is important because hoodie and masky’s whole goal is to combat alex and the operator ! the operator can make them more aggressive/act out in ways that they otherwise wouldn’t, but it isn’t making them do it’s bidding !
tbh the only thing holding me back from explaining every single instance where hoodie or masky come off as threatening is my own thinning self control, but the fact that I haven’t yet means that I have limited examples jlksfd. that said ! I can think of a couple!
the most obvious example of them being threatening on purpose was entry ####, when hoodie and masky stopped speaking in codes for the first time and made an overtly threatening video saying in no uncertain terms that they were coming to “get” jay just before the season 1 finale. They even posted it on His channel so he couldn’t ignore it. they Knew alex was going to go after jay, but they also knew that alex was watching him and watching them. if they warned him that alex was the one coming for him then alex wouldn’t make his move and would wait until jay was vulnerable again (plus the risk of him just not Believing them since at this point he had no reason to think that alex was truly dangerous). so they made Themselves the threat and scared jay out of his apartment before alex could burn him alive in it.
an example of them appearing threatening because of Circumstance and how the story was told is actually one series of events split up into several parts ! chronologically it starts with entry 52. alex invites jay and jessica into the woods, holds them at gunpoint, and tries to shoot them only to be tackled by masky. jessica and jay manage to run away and meet up at a hotel only to be tracked down by the operator. jay tackles it and he and jessica are knocked out and have their memories wiped.
then jay wakes up in entry 27 with no idea what’s happened, and posts about exactly that to his youtube channel. both alex and totheark have been paying attention to jay’s channel and they both find out that jay and jessica are vulnerable at the same time. they don’t know exactly where jay and jessica are right off the bat, but jay made it clear that he wasn’t going anywhere. so it’s a race against the clock to see who can get to them first while not drawing any unwanted attention.
finally it’s jessica’s disappearance, split between entry 33 and 76! jay has Just posted about how he’s gonna leave with jessica to try to figure things out, and hoodie and masky both know that if alex had already found the hotel then that would’ve push him into action. So that’s what leads to 76 with hoodie and masky grabbing jessica to try to get her out of danger. masky carries her down the stairs and then sets her down outside before heading back into the hotel.
Cutting to entry 33, that’s when he confronts jay in his hotel room. At the time it Looked like he was attacking jay because we didn’t have the context, but this was Immediately following him trying to save jessica and him Successfully saving them from alex shooting them. Moreover, he didn’t actually try to hit or overpower jay (and considering he just finished carrying a grown unconscious woman over his shoulders down the stairs he definitely could’ve).
What’s more likely is that hoodie was going to carry jessica to safety while masky carried jay, and he only Didn’t because jay was conscious to fight him off. (why jessica was unconscious probably has to do with why jay and jessica lost their memories in the first place and why jessica didn’t seem to think anything was off at the end of the series, that’s to say that slenderman wanted alex to get to them and was likely thrown by hoodie and masky’s presence). masky was hauling ass because he was trying to get to jay before alex did and he was taken off guard by the fact that jay wasn’t out like jessica was !
so then back to 76! jessica wakes up and hoodie tries to help her through the woods only to get shot at by alex, alex tricks her into trusting him and tries to convince her that they’re both hoodie’s victims. when alex tries to take his second chance to kill her she grabs his gun and hoodie comes to beat his ass ! hoodie stayed close when he ran off so he could catch alex off guard ! Unfortunately the operator gets to her while they’re fighting each other off. it’s unclear exactly what happens but jessica gets taken and we see alex put his gun away. personally I think jessica was knocked out rather than shot and he was just retrieving it from her before she got taken (seeing as she’s still alive by the end of the series) though what happened to hoodie isn’t exactly clear beyond the fact that he lived.
so ! to put all of that shorter fjdksl hoodie and masky’s goal here was to protect jay and jessica from alex. masky came to stop alex from shooting them the first time and they both tracked jessica and jay down after they lost their memories because they knew alex would take the opportunity to try to kill them again. masky not being able to grab jay (or more accurately, getting throttled by jay jldsf) meant that he wasn’t there to help hoodie defend jessica against alex leading to her getting taken anyways. but it scared jay into escaping the hotel without having to encounter alex himself. That’s why jay said he understood. it isn’t just that tim had no control over his alter’s actions, it was that masky and hoodie Looked threatening but were actually trying to help. It’s just that tim had no way to know that when he found the tape originally.
and finally ! what I think is an example of masky coming off as threatening because of the operator’s influence, but specifically on Mood rather than action! This being the events of entry 61 and 62!
Hoodie wants to force jay and tim to team up, and he does so by acting as the villain to get jay to move again (while he had masky pose in front of the camera before it’s more likely that he planned and edited entry ####). He takes tim’s pills, tim goes into a seizure, the video cuts out, and hoodie tells jay to go find him. this is followed by masky attacking jay in the woods and them both waking up in the abandoned house in rosswood.
now before I say anything else, let's contrast this with jay in entry 82 and 77. jay tries to stake out the rosswood tunnel (the last place jessica was seen in the tape before she disappeared), and after not finding anything he calls tim to apologize, tell him that he understood, and to say he wanted to work with him again. He’s scared and he says that he thinks he’s seeing things, he Specifically sees the same abandoned building that they woke up in during 62 Moving Closer to him. Jay then has a seizure, the video cuts out, and tim never gets the phone call. the next time we see jay chronologically is 77, where he comes to tim with zip ties and his (piddly) pocket knife to try to “interrogate” him about jessica.
we don’t see exactly what happened to him after the video cuts out, but we know whatever it was affected his memory, made him far more aggressive and paranoid, and played into his anxiety and fears notching them up to 11 (like him shouting that it “wouldn’t have been (his) fault” when tim says that jessica is gone playing into the fact that jay blames himself for losing jessica when she was one room over).
it’s the exact same situation with masky. 61 and 62 follows tim and jay’s blowout in the parking lot and jay sharing tim’s medical records online. at this point tim had a lot of anxiety and frustration surrounding jay. so when masky woke up after tim’s seizure, shaken up by the operator, he saw jay as a threat to tim’s safety in the same way that jay saw Tim as a threat keeping him from finding jessica. the operator is Most Likely responsible for teleporting them both to the abandoned house and teleporting masky specifically to the woods !
the operator causing aggression is pretty much a constant ! though how much a specific person reacts to it depends on the situation, the amount of exposure they’ve had and how recent it was, and how much Help the person has access to (like medication, support, and solidarity). alex became an Extremely aggressive person, and it wasn’t just because of the stress of the situation. he self isolated and didn’t have access to medication. he fell into paranoia and catastrophizing, deciding that everyone around him either deserved to be mercy killed to save them from the operator or saw them as a threat spreading the sickness to other people.
That’s why he went easier on jay at first. He was trying to kill him from the beginning, but he tolerated more from him because he saw jay as someone that needed to be saved from his fate. It isn’t until his mental health declined even further and jay continued to get in his way that his attitude changed, giving us who he was at the very end.
we also know that audio/visual glitches are signs of the operator, and you’ll notice the audio glitching when people yell Throughout the series. the three standouts for me being alex yelling “I’ll kill you” after hoodie and masky try to smash his head in with a rock, tim yelling “but what if I’m right” while he’s spiraling thinking about how he could’ve been the cause of all of this while telling jay about his backstory, and jay yelling “I need it” after tim refuses to leave the camera for him when jay is zip tied on the floor.
the operator causes paranoia and aggression as a baseline, it just affects everyone to different degrees at different times depending on their access to help and how direct the operator is being with its influence, hoodie and masky are no different !
that doesn’t make their actions Okay, alex isn’t off the hook for Murder, but it does make them all Victims and it does mean that they deserved help (think back to tim offering to help alex during their final confrontation, even after everything).
All of that to say ! while hoodie and masky come off as threatening, their overall goals are to be helpful, they just tend to act extremely because of the situation they’re in on top of dealing with the same operator-influenced aggression and paranoia that everyone else is trying to manage. This is only emphasized by the method of storytelling deliberately obscuring the order of events to make them appear more threatening than they really are on top of their own attempts to scare jay out of harm's way.
I’ve gone on just, frankly way too long. so ! if you’re interested in more meta about how mental illness ties into the core Themes of marble hornets as well as misconceptions in the fandom (and specifically some dunking on night mind’s masky theory jlkfsd) I have a google doc where I’ve been just, chewing on it here (link)
it’s written like it’s laying out points for a response video that I’m frankly never gonna make, but I’ve been putting off making a post about it instead for This Exact Reason (this post is just over 5 pages in google docs jlkfds). and if you’d like to do more research on DID and OSDD there’s an Excellent playlist with resources ! the uploader has OSDD and they have other playlists as well that are worth checking out too ^^ (link)

All They Have Chapter 1
Marble Hornets, Brim, TW: Violence, TW: Injury, TW: Language, TW: Mention of murder, TW: Mental illness
Ao3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/26204173/chapters/63772075
Summary: It was all over. Alex was dead and Tim could finally move on. All he wanted was a normal life. If only he could have one...
Chapter under the cut for those who don’t use Ao3
Confrontation
The car pulled up to a fork in the road, To the right Rosswood Park where this whole mess started; To the left out of that god forsaken town. Tim reached forward turning the camera. His movements were robotic and face blank, likely with shock at having killed one of his best friends. Sirens wailed lightly in the background as he reached forward and pressed the little black button on the side of the camera. Once it was off, he pulled it to rest on the passenger seat. Staring at the choice in front of him he took a shaky breath and slid the steering wheel left.
He remembered that part so clearly, the decision despite every subconscious urge pulling him the opposite direction he went left. That was his choice, no Alex, no Operator, just him. He tried to be proud of the accomplishment as small as it was. At least he got something right.
He had spent the last couple days traveling. He wanted to get as far away as possible from that thing. Most of his memory from that day was fuzzy. All he knew was that he had to get as far away as possible and lay low.
He also needed a plan. He knew Alex was dead, but that Thing wasn’t! It was difficult to know how to plan against it. Could he prepare anything against it?
He yawned again and resigned to sleep at the next rest stop. Then he’d keep going. He’d been driving nonstop for days. If he didn’t rest soon, he’d fall asleep at the wheel.
Before leaving Benedict Hall, he grabbed Alex's gun. There weren't many bullets left in it, but it was better than nothing. He also got his pills from the hooded man before the fight. So, he’d been taking them regularly again. So, he was at least prepared but would it be enough?
He knew it had to be. There wasn’t anything else he could do. He knew though that thing wasn’t normal. It did things that shouldn’t even be possible. The only assurance he could muster was that last time it had to rely on corrupting others, and they were all… his train of thought halted entirely shifting as fast as it could. His therapist called it thought direction. He missed seeing his therapist, but he knew there was a chance he’d have to be on the run for murder. Unless that thing took Alex’s body. Still he’d rather play it safe. No need to attract unwanted attention. So, he cancelled his appointments explaining he had a vacation planned.
He pulled up the hotel and booked a room for the night with the little cash he had. The place seemed shady and a bit under the table. However, he preferred that on some level. It made things like paying in cash and laying low easier. They didn’t even ask for ID, which was good because he checked in under a fake name. He couldn’t be too careful. After everything that just happened, he wasn’t taking any more chances.
He double and triple checked everything in the room. Memorizing all possible exits and entrances. Making sure the window was locked. He even triple checked every painting and cabinet for cameras or hidden masked men. He cleaned the gun off in the sink trying to convince himself the red running off and down the drain was just paint. Then making sure it was loaded he flipped the safety on and clipped it onto his belt. Then sat down and turned the tv on keeping it quiet so he could hear if any unexpected visitors were to drop in.
Later that night the tv hummed with soap operas and reruns of the news. All that was on at 8pm on a Sunday. The microwave beeped indicating he could finally eat something. He got up and trailed into the very makeshift kitchen. His food was ready, and he was about to pull it out when something just felt off. Placing down the tv dinner he placed his hand on his gun and walked back into the living area. Surveying he noticed immediately a back spec move away from his window and behind the couch. Immediately he pulled his gun and flicked the safety off. He pointed it at the couch. What he saw was barely there for a second and he may have been imagining it. However, he wasn’t risking a thing.
“I know you’re there so get up!” He shouted. Nothing happened for a moment and he wondered if he really had imagined it. He cocked the gun getting ready to shoot. “I said get up! Show me your hands!”
His command, after a moment and to his surprise, was met by a figure rising from behind his couch. The man was tall with broad shoulders, a golden hoodie, and a familiar sad black mask. Tim’s brows furrowed.
“You!” His shout was furious, and he was about to pull the trigger then and there. Then he felt a tug. “Ok Asshole give me one good reason not to finish the job!” It was then the man put a gloved hand up to his face pulling off the mask to reveal an even more familiar face.
“You wouldn’t want to kill both your best friends would ya?” The man chimed hands in the air. His expression was confusingly calm for a man at gunpoint. The shock caused Tim to falter lowering the gun.
“Brian?” His confusion was plain on his face as Brian approached him.
“Nice to see ya pal! I’ve been waiting a while to give you this” Tim hit the floor fast holding his bleeding nose. He didn’t even see the punch or Brian ripping the gun away. What he did see however was the anger in his eyes now staring down at the bleeding man. It took a minute for Tim to be able to breathe. His eyes watered as he attempted to get up. He hacked and wheezed finally making it to his knees only to see Brian’s foot connect to his ribcage.
Tim collapsed again into a coughing fit as his ribs screamed in pain. His head was dizzy swimming in pain and he still couldn’t breathe. But managed to choke out “What,” He coughed “was that for?!” Tim wheezed as Brian glared down at him.
“Oh, for being such a good friend!” He yelled. “Always lying and keeping secrets, real selfless Tim!” Brian paced in anger as Tim moved carefully onto his uninjured side still coughing. “You had years, fucking years to tell me that shit! We lived together! But no, you keep it a secret. Just lying and lying as if it couldn’t affect anyone else!” Tim wheezed breaths. Catching his breath as Brian ranted. “And now look what happened?” His mocking tone made Tim want to vomit or maybe that was the likely broken ribs. “It not only affected everyone! It fucking killed ‘em’!”
Tim involuntarily flinched at the word. There was a long silence as Tim glared at him from the floor. He got up shakily leaning against the wall. He was worried Brian was going to come at him again, but the words slipped out before he could stop them.
“So, you’re the psycho who gets off on stealing pills?” The tension was palpable as Brian retorted.
“And you get off on chasing Jay through the woods, what's your point?” again with that.
“My point is that all this moral advice. Is coming from a violent narcissistic college drop out with a pill fetish!” He knew he was pushing Brian’s limits and thoroughly enjoyed it. “I'm just saying you don’t have a ton of room to talk.” With that Tim walked slowly to the couch and sat down, bumping Brian on the way. It hurt like hell, but the spite was worth it. Brian turns in a rage and Tim spoke without thinking.
“What gonna hit me again?” Tim shouted and Brian stopped, glaring. Tim sighed grabbing the tv remote and turned it off. “since I’m not getting to watch my show.” His deadpan tone was surprisingly calm considering the pain he was in. “Now,” he turned to Brian. “What the hell do you want? Or did you just come here to kick the shit out of me?”
“I’m here with a message. Kicking the shit out of you was just a bonus.”
“What couldn’t put it through a few dozen ciphers and hide it in another spooky video.” Brian rolled his eyes.
“Believe whatever the hell you want Tim, but I wasn’t in charge of that.”
“You sure seemed to have a lot to do with it.”
“What cus I was in a few videos?” He leaned forward into Tim’s face, placing a finger on his chest. “Got news for ya Timmy boy, I wasn’t the only one.” Tim smacked his finger away in annoyance.
“Then who was?”
“Seth.”
“Seth?”
“Going deaf or somethin’?”
“Why-?” Brian held up his hand.
“Frankly Tim I never asked, and I don’t care. I don’t even want to be here right now.”
“Then why are you here?”
“I told you, I’m here to deliver a message.” Brian sighed
“From?” Brian started seriously at Tim.
“The thing .” Tim cocked an eyebrow suspiciously.
“How-?”
“It wants you back Tim.” His glazed eyes frightened Tim to the core.
“No.”
“It's not a request. It's an order. That thing wants you wants,” Brain reached into his pocket and pulled out that damn mask! “this!” Tim stood up off the couch backing away. He tried to appear calm, but panic swam in his eyes.
“Get out.” Brian got up coming closer to Tim.
“Tim come on just take the damn mask it's going to get you. Just come peacefully.” Tim opened the front door.
“I said, get out! And take that cursed thing with you!”
“Tim-”
“Get the fuck out of my room! I'm not hearing any of this cultist bullshit! I'm done!”
“Tim just listen-!”
“No, you listen!” Tim walked up to Brian getting in his face. “You’re going to go out this door, get into your car, and drive back to whenever shack you’re calling home! Meanwhile, I’m going to get my bearings, leave, and live a normal fucking life!” He stuck a finger out. “I’m not letting you ruin this for me! This is my life and for once, I’m going to live it on my terms!” Brian's expression was hard to read. Where Tim expected to see anger or annoyance, he saw a stone-cold expression of pure exhaustion… maybe even sadness? It took a long moment before Brian sighed.
“Fine. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.” Brian made his way to the doorway.
“What's that supposed to mean?” With a look that was hard to place, Brian tossed the mask inside and was swallowed into the darkness of night.

Marble Hornets hcs.............TWO
[Insert gif here]
[Part one]
Jay was actually pursuing a career in journalism. That's why he was so gung-ho about the whole investigation thing, it felt like his calling
Tim was going to school for music! He wanted to be a music therapist, actually. After so long in mental facilities, he thought that being able to help people in the same situation he was in express themselves would be nice
Alex was obviously a film student
Brian was going for psychology!
Jessica was going to be an accountant- she’s always been good at math- and Amy was going for interior design
Brian has two butch moms who love him dearly and a little brother
Alex came from a single-parent household- his mom was always wearing herself out on multiple jobs to support them. Alex wanted to be a director since he was little, and he always said he was going to make a big movie that got famous so he could get her a house and she wouldn’t have to work anymore.
Jessica came from a big family. Being one of the older siblings, she has a very naturally caring instinct towards people
Jay comes from a wealthy family but didn’t have a great home life. He has parents, but they never gave him much attention as a child, both busy with work. They weren’t a fan of him coming out, around the time he left for college, either. They didn’t disown him and pay to keep him in school, but they have very little contact otherwise.
Tim hasn’t seen any of his family since his mother had him committed when he was a child. He has a very complicated internal relationship with her because of what she did. He doesn’t know where she is and hasn’t reached out to find her; he isn’t ready yet.
Brian is a great cook. Jessica and Tim can both cook alright, but Alex and Jay are walking disasters in a kitchen. Jay because he just doesn’t pay enough attention, and Alex because he decides he knows better than the recipe far too often
Despite having more than enough money, Jay is absurdly cheap when it comes to himself. Not because he wants to save necessarily, but more because he just doesn’t see the point in spending more money than necessary. When it comes to other people, though? He shells out. He gets really nice gifts and it makes Tim and Alex a little uncomfortable at first because they’re really not used to it
Brian is a morning person surrounded by night people. He makes it everyone else's problem
Jessica is the sweetest girl but one time the guys watched her dump a full can of redbull into her coffee and drink it without flinching and now theyre all a little scared of her
Jay would probably do the same but he wouldn't be able to handle it. He doesn't really have insomnia but he's just terrible about remembering to go to sleep
Really in every sense, it isn't that Jay can't tale care of himself, because he can- he just doesn't care enough a lot of the time. He'd be much worse off if he didnt have the others to remind him to eat and go to bed
Brian is the kind of guy who gets along with everyone. Everyone knows him, he knows everybody else- Tim has no idea how he keeps so many names straight.
Jessica is pretty socially sensible herself. Alex isnt necessarily bad at making friends- he can if he wants to. He's just admittedly a little judgemental and picky when it comes to who he wants to be friends with.
Jay and Tim are just messes. They both don't really know how to talk to people. Tim just didn't have much experience as a kid; he's getting somewhat better, though. Jay, on the other hand, has just never been good at talking to people. If Alex hadn't approached him, he'd probably still be at about 0 friends.

“You Are All I Have Left” Alex Kralie x Mute!Reader
Masterlist
Warnings: None
Summary: While having a run in with The Operator, you meet a man with the same struggle that saves you
A request from Quotev
Your eyes shot open, lungs heaving for much needed air and body in a cold sweat. Another night, another nightmare. Your eyebrows furrowed and your stomach turned as you realized: You were not in your bed. You were laying on the ground in a seemingly abandoned building. How did you get there? Sometimes your life got weird, but not this weird.
Sitting down and doing nothing wouldn’t help you at all so you stumbled up from the ground. You needed to figure how where you are and why. The why was easy, considering you had things following and trying to communicate with you. They must have wanted you to see this place. As you looked around the building, you were met with nothing but empty rooms and crumbling structures. There was literally nothing to see. The place was as bare as possible, why would they want you to see something so destroyed and useless?
You sighed quietly to yourself, knowing you had nothing better to do than explore. Maybe you’d come across something you would recognize? All you knew was that you had no clue where you are and you were stuck here with no means of transportation.
With a small grinding in your skull and a tightening of your throat, small coughs released themselves from your body. Something was wrong, you could feel it; this sort of sensation only happened when HE was around. Panic started to course through you at that realization. You were all alone with nowhere to go, you couldn’t deal with him right now. But you knew you didn’t have a choice, you never did. You eyes searched the room for a way to escape when you saw the familiar towering figure.
You tried to run but your body locked in place, feet glued to the ground against their will. As your eyes fixed on the entity, the corners of your vision were beginning to blur. This was nothing new but it never felt normal as if it were a surprise every time. You couldn’t move and everything felt hopeless.
Without any time to process what was happening, a large hand wrapped around the bend of your elbow and a strong force attached to it pulled you backwards. Your eyes finally broke the stare and you looked behind you, seeing an unfamiliar man. Even if you wanted to run away because it was a stranger who had you, you followed after him. Once he felt you fall in step with him, he let go in order for the both of you to gain speed. Were you not the only one that was burdened by the faceless monster?
You were met with a car and the man immediately started to climb into the driver's seat. “Get in,” he instructed with a stern voice. This man met business, no fun and games about it. You did as told and hurried into the passenger seat. The car slide across the gravel faster than you would have thought.
“What were you doing there?” His eyes that were framed with glasses stared through the windshield as he spoke, expecting you to verbally reply. That was a problem. He spared a small glance your way as if to check why you didn’t respond and he was met with your hands signing your reason of why. You doubted he understand you but the act alone must have cleared it up to him. “You can’t talk and I don’t understand sign language.”
You bit your lip, opening the glove box. In there, you found a black sharpie and various blank pages. You pulled them out and set to writing. ‘I’m [Y/N] and I’m mute.’ You knew to keep it short and sweet so he didn’t look away from the road for too long. Now was not the time for a car wreck.
Alex looked over quickly and read it as fast as possible. “Alex,” he introduced, “nice to meet you, [Y/N].”
You smiled the smallest bit but your eyes landed on something that rested on the middle of the dashboard. A camera. You raised an eyebrow and pointed to it.
“I film everything. You can never be too careful when dealing with those bastards.” You nodded in understanding, knowing he was right. This confirmed your suspicions; you were not alone in this.
After about twenty minutes of a silent car ride, the vehicle finally stopped in a driveway. Silence usually doesn’t bother you but in a situation like this, the air was thick and eerie. You looked at the house that seemed to be your destination. It wasn’t the biggest of houses but it looked like it was enough to get by with.
“Here we are. My house,” Alex said and snapped you out of your thoughts. He got out and you followed suit, taking the sharpie and papers with you. It was your only effective way to communicate and you were not about to leave it behind. He led you into the house, opening the door for you. You walked in first and looked the place over. It definitely looked lived in but not a mess. He sat down on a nearby couch, expecting you to do the same and you did.
“So,” you looked over at him as he began to speak once more, “I’m guessing you’ve seen that thing that was in the building before?” You nod. “For how long?”
You thought for a moment. Time wasn’t a familiar concept to you anymore, especially when you spend all your time trying to busy yourself from all the nonsense. ‘Maybe a few weeks to a month?’ You wrote, taking a random stab at it. Alex nodded as if he understood why it was a guess and not a solid answer.
“How did you get to that place?” Alex adjusted his glasses the smallest bit.
You shrugged, not having an answer to that as well. ‘Just woke up there. Never been there before.’
“So you don’t know where you are at all?” You shook your head and he seemed to be figuring out what to do. You were his responsibility now. “You can stay here. With all of this mess going on, I don’t want you on the streets.”
‘Thank you so much.’ You appreciated what he was doing more than anything. It wasn’t every day that a stranger would so graciously take you into their home, even if he didn’t sound like he was completely thrilled about it.
It had been… God knows how long… And Alex was in his room. The house was dead quiet besides the audio from the TV in front of you. You were wondering what he was doing in there but it wasn’t your place to snoop around. You gazed at the TV but you weren’t paying any attention to it.
You heard his door creak open and your head whipped around, seeing Alex finally emerge from his room. He shut the door quickly and went into the kitchen. You followed with your sharpie and paper, wanting to talk to him a bit. You told him about yourself but all you knew about him was his name and where the two of you were staying. You tapped on his shoulder and he turned around in a hurry as if expecting to see someone else there besides you. “Oh, hey, [Y/N]. What’s up?” He asked casually.
You gave a soft smile before writing. ‘Can I know more about you? I mean, we are kinda stuck together. It’d be nice to get to you and your situation.’ He looked at your words with hesitant eyes, obviously contemplating whether to say anything or not. He nodded after a moment.
“Well all of this started a while back, maybe years now. I don’t know, it’s hard to tell anymore. I had a film project for college called Marble Hornets and I got some friends to be in it. Not long into the making, I started seeing it. First that, then Brian went missing… Amy, Jessica, and Jay for a while.” You had no clue who he was talking about but you listened anyways, assuming they were some of the people in his film. “Jay came back but was different. Tim never left but he was apart of the issue. Turns out he’s the masked man running around here. Long story short, Jay and now you are all I have left to hold onto.” Alex summed it up. The masked man was something you did understand but you didn’t want to push it even further by asking about it.
You looked up at him, studying his face for any signs of grief. His dark eyes held the slightest bit but it was enough to make you want to comfort him. You put your arms out as if offering him a hug. He seemed skeptical as if this wasn’t normal, which it might not be for him. It sounds like his friends didn’t do their job of being there for him and you wouldn’t make that mistake. A second goes by before he wrapped his arms around you tightly, putting every single mixed emotion he felt into it. You returned the action and held him close. He was a broken man but he wasn’t a lost cause.
Alex was the first to pull away and he seemed slightly more relaxed. He looked over at the TV then turned back to you. “Mind if I join?” You smiled and shook your head, leading the way back to the couch this time. The two of you sat down, him closer to you than the first time.
The two of you have been watching TV for about an hour now and your eyelids were starting to droop. With a crazy day like that, it was expected. As you started to doze off, you felt an arm gentle place itself around your shoulders in a protective manner. A soft smile graced your lips as you lean into it, eyes finally retiring for the night.

How Pep Guardiola made Manchester City go again and capture second straight Premier League title
An hour after lifting his second Carabao Cup in February, Pep Guardiola stood inside a plush Wembley hospitality suite agitating to get away. Manchester City had laid on a winners' reception for family and sponsors to joyously toast another trophy, but their manager had already moved on.
Guardiola was pleasant, polite and graciously took the congratulations, yet his mind was elsewhere. He became an occupied look and all those present knew it.
Three more trophies were on the line at that stage. The biggest, and most significant, or those was the Premier League title – and retaining it. Liverpool still needed catching, two points the deficit. Guardiola longed to be back at the training ground studying videos, and back at his city center restaurant, Tast, drinking tomato juice and plotting his next move.
An hour after winning the Carabao Cup, Pep Guardiola's mind was clearly elsewhere
Guardiola longed to be training ground studying videos and plotting his next move
The Spaniard's incredible focus has been driven City to a second straight Premier League title
What has happened this season is Testiola to Guardiola, the first man since Sir Alex Ferguson in 2009 to retain the world's toughest league after Sunday's win at Brighton, where City equated their own record for most victories in a campaign, 32. He told his players back in August to expect a Liverpool onslaught and was proven correct, the level of Jurgen Klopp's wondrous team kicking City on achieving a staggering 98 points.
That's 198 points over the course of the last 76 games now – an average of 2.61 per match – and nobody is likely to rival the consistency of this set of players for a long, long tim
"I didn't expect to get the points so far after what we did last season," Guardiola said. "Normally the tendency for human beings is to relax a little bit."
He admitted he had expected his players to relax a little after winning the title last year
In July last year, in the wind of Chicago, Guardiola had somehow upscaled his efforts
Guardiola was unrelenting from the campaign as attempted to retain the crown
His drive can be traced back to last July, in the wind of Chicago, when those around the first team noticed this workaholic or a manager had somehow upscaled his efforts just further on City's pre-season tour. Even with the majority of his players on holiday recovering from the World Cup, Guardiola was unrelenting.
The Catalan puts this achievement down as one of his greatest in management. Retaining the Premier League title was his absolute focus and he made it plain the squad should pay similar amounts of attention.
Bernardo Silva flew out early to America after Portugal's campaign in Russia at the manager's request and has since flourished, arguably becoming the club's most reliable player. Leroy Sane was treated differently, cradled by his manager – afforded extra time off after his omission from the Germany squad – but appeared morose.
The winger soon fell out of favor, dropped from one squad completely after poor performances in training and general sullenness, and has struggled for starts all year. Despite his enviable goals and assists record, Sane is now firmly behind Bernardo in the pecking order. If you're not on board, City simply wants to place faith in others.
Bernardo Silva flew out early to America after the World Cup at the manager's request
The campaign has, in many respects, been a triumph for man management. The City dressing room has been described by first-team sources as 'extraordinary', and the best environment cultivated since Sheikh Mansour's money arrived in east Manchester. "I've never seen anything quite like it," one said.
The squad play card games on the way back from matches, rather than sit in isolation with headphones in. Bernardo's terrace chant – 'Ber-nar-do; Sil-VA; running down the wing, Sil-VA '- is a favorite singalong on the team coach. Players of different nationalities mix freely about compulsory breakfast and lunches at the training complex, with no real cliques.
The absent Benjamin Mendy Face Timed Vincent Kompany to congratulate his captain after that thunderbolt winner against Leicester. Birthdays or players or staff members are celebrated in unison after matches. Kompany spent an hour consoling a tearful Sergio Aguero in the dressing room after Champions League elimination, that night hitting the older players hard.
Not every club fosters this atmosphere and manage less to sustain it. Just look at the team across town. For that, Guardiola's large backroom team deserve credit. Mikel Arteta is well-liked by the players as well as Brian Kidd, whose arm around the shoulder brings comfort at opportune moments.
Vincent Kompany spent an hour consoling tearful Sergio Aguero after Champions League exit
This has been a season full of tribulations, not least that chastening night at St James' Park in late January. Beaten 2-1 by Newcastle, squandering an early lead and, according to the coaching staff at the time, squandering the title.
"It's over," one said solemnly that night after a defeat that gifted Liverpool the chance to go seven points clear. Guardiola was so angry at his side's passive performance that he just told some coaches not to bother entering the dressing room for what proved a 30-minute dressing down. He would deal with the players themselves.
Guardiola questioned his players' desire. Their emphatic answer was 14 straight wins, four short of the record they set in the previous season.
There are other difficulties to overcome along the way, particularly City's injury list. Kevin De Bruyne has played barely and Fernandinho has missed key games. Mendy's fitness problems persist and he is also attempting to clean up his act off the pitch.
Guardiola questioned his players' desire after losing to Newcastle – they won 14 straight after
A few players have moved homes. Mendy is out in Cheshire in an attempt to avoid city center distractions. So too Gabriel Jesus. John Stones, who has started two of the last 13 games, is now living in Guardiola's lavish apartment block after a very public breakdown or a relationship with his long-term girlfriend. Some switches have come on the advice of staff and manager.
Crucially, there is reverence for their boss. "You can feel Pep in the room," another source said. "He has an aura about him." Players are unsure or his methods are instinctive or planned, but they work. He is not mates with any of the squad and refuses to have favorites. One player has said that treating them all 'more or less the same' garner respect.
"We don't love each other too much, the players and the staff," Guardiola said. "We don't let them be creative, but it's the only way."
A Monday might bring a hug and a kiss from Guardiola. But he might not say a word to you on Tuesday. Team selections are rarely explained. Always remaining on your toes, and the healthy competition for places, stimulates this talented squad. Kyle Walker occasionally opted against bringing luggage with him when City stay overnight on the training ground the day before a game. Squads are only announced after all players have arrived and Walker did not wish to tempt fate on his spot, despite being an obvious regular.
Kyle Walker has sometimes opted against bringing luggage with him for trips to not tempt fate
Guardiola has tried to make them think more. Jesus has hired a personal trainer for fitness and diet from Brazil. Danilo has spoken or becoming more analytical when watching matches on television.
Training drills are generally kept for 10 minutes, with Arteta keeping them fresh to avoid boredom. City players barely had a genuine day off from November through to April. Afternoons post-training or the nights spent with families before matches are, therefore, cherished.
The night after the Newcastle defeat, Guardiola attended the musical Jersey Boys with his family at Oxford Road's Palace Theater in Manchester rather than watch Liverpool's draw with Leicester. He was at the Royal Exchange Theater to see West Side Story earlier this month too.
Guardiola and Mikel Arteta (second left) ensure training drills are short to avoid boredom
A large number of players have tried to keep away from Liverpool's games in the run-in. Ilkay Gundogan had Fenerbahce's 1-1 draw with Galatasaray on the trip back from Crystal Palace last month while Liverpool beat Chelsea. Others chose to watch the Masters. Raheem Sterling has joked he ignored Liverpool's games until it looked like they might drop points, only for them to score when they turned the TV on.
The scene inside City's dressing room at Old Trafford on April 24 has been described by one source as the tensest atmosphere they had ever witnessed before a match. Players were seen as pacing, heads bowed and conversation was minimal. Many wore that look Guardiola had two months earlier at Wembley.
City beat Manchester United 2-0. Turns out it was not nerves, it was steely determination.

SCORE - research notes
SCORE: A FILM MUSIC DOCUMENTARY
Marco Beltrami - PIANO TUNES WITH THE WIND - MALIBU (LOOK INTO): Sound travels through the wire faster than the air, results in a reverse echo - no effect needed (find film used for) - The gunman - columba (instrument), intrigue - following a mystery,
ROCKY
Jon Burlingham, film music historian - Leonard something or other Bill Field, organist - Wurlitzer
MAX STEINER - king kong - orchestra music in a movie?? It completely changed the movie - what was before unexciting and studied became terrifying with the addition of music
ALFRED NEWMAN - horns and woodwinds - 20th century fox logo
David Newman - a flow, like speaking: it fluctuates
John Debney
James Cameron - spot session, trying to communicate the sound they hear in their heads, etc. - most directors don't know how to convert emotions into music, so the composer has to act as a 'therapist and go through the mish-mash
BEAR MCCREARY - try to figure out what their insecurities are first,
MERVYN WARREN

"Goosebumps"
PROF. SIU-LAN TAN: different aspects of music are processed by systems in the brain - multifaceted - melody pitch, tempo and rhythm, -- physiological reaction - reward center, dopamine, react to music. Film music and orchestral music is of great interest to scientists because of it's ability to emote: film music isn’t something we pay conscious attention to and yet it has such a powerful impact on us - an audience's eyes can be drawn to different parts of the screen with music that matches certain characteristics being shown on the screen - for example a rising pitch with something that's rising: UP - first time we see the balloons - important visual motif and theme - interesting to see that music can be part of the choreography of our eye movements ET - Vast expansive music with the taking off of the space ship - go from big music to small - reminding us who's going into the spaceship, it's very sad, these are farewells - this fanfare that's very triumphant, saying we're looking at it from Elliot's view point, it's not a loss, it's almost like saying "Mission accomplished" - film music, so powerful, so un-captureable to scientists
QUINCY JONES - everything you see, you here (used to be) - eyes doing the same things the ear was doing
JERRY GOLDSMITH - planet of the apes: using modern techniques, reapplied it into drama - rubber balls being bounced in bowls, metal bowls, CHINATOWN - four pianos, etc. - ballsy
RANDY NEWMAN
JOHN WILLIAMS - jazz pianist - JAWS - crazy experiment - engine, accelerate - if we didn’t have that theme, we wouldn't know what was happening - spots and places music in the movie - only wanted music to announce the arrival of the shark STAR WARS - huge impact - theme - symphonic score, rediscovered the classical orchestral film score, good and bad, beautiful themes for romance and heroes, the Darth Vader theme - so marshal and broad - "oh boy there’s something not good here"; helps discern characters SUPERMAN theme - krypton theme: mysterious, av-ante garde, way of surrounding pieces with other pieces INDIANA JONES raiders of the lost ark - spends more time on those small bits of musical grammar so they seem inevitable - plethora of parts ET - film music has changed because film has changed, what it needs to do - end of ET - wide space of just music, JURASSIC PARK -
air studios - pick a studio ‘cus it's appropriate to the sort of sound you want to make - churches - haunted, etc. DAVID ARNOLD. - CASINO ROYALE - acoustics, choice - hundreds of mics - how close/how far you wanna feel from the music.
ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS - live sound, less absorbent material on the walls - great reverb, Beatles, Return of the Jedi, lord of the rings, mission impossible - different layouts for different sounds - Rogue Nation, changing music at different cuts to fix problems/change it up
film making styles have changed, so has film music
19702 - synthesizers and punk
DANNY ELFMAN - short musical ideas that become big musical ideas - Tim Burton, batman - only one rule: there are no rules -
THOMAS NEWMAN - difficult to develop what the sound it - like Danny elf man, developed his own sound - Shaw shank Redemption. American Beauty - marimba, sets the tone of the film, sets you a little off balance, captured the way of ding uncertainty - establish a key center, things will then weave in and around that baseline - creates a texture that lives behind the orchestra, yes could write orchestral scores, but sometimes a film needs something more intimate. prevailing mood, slap it on an image and let it sit for 2 minutes - cold, emotive piano
HANS ZIMMER: unconventional rock swagger to film screen - GLADIATOR - brutality, violence where the notes are placed, intensity - woman's vocals over the orchestra - shaped cinema - took the string section and made it like a guitar - they're playing rhythm - PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN - like led zepplin payed by an orchestra; DARK KNIGHT - blurred the line between giant symphonic and orchestral - constant pulse - powerful, exciting - INCEPTION - it's like a new morning, washes over you in waves, music just piles up - left with a big question.
People who aren't film composers being asked to make film scores - can bring so much authenticity to sound music - sounds are extremely contemporary - SOCIAL NETWORK - disturbing lyrical piano - human and technical, emotionally dark, - ATTICUS ROSS and TRENT RIZZLER
unconventional image and unconventional sound - so much greater than the sum of their arts beautiful chaos far more experimentation, freedom, Technology has made it possible for every composer to be a producer - at the core of it is the tune
STEVE JABLONSKY - Lockdown theme - first introduces french horns into the score, mixing them up a bit, bringing texture to the piece, you want your intention to be clear - the horns give it more of an emotional weight - you want to make sure the emotions you mean to grab the audience are strong enough, make bold statement
ALEXANDER BELSPATT
FOX STUDIOS - LA, stronger sound, London, softer sound -
HARRY GREGSON-WILLIAMS -
WARNER BROS. STUDIOS - JOHN (PAUL??) DEBNY -
music - the most human and emotive thing we have
ELLIOT GOLDENTHAL
BRIAN TYLER - if everything was perfect in music, everything would sound terrible - fast and furious 6 - you can feel when a cue is working the audience - goes to watch audience reactions when watching the movie, helps him for future films - get a sense of how did this work, do they scenes move people - will run into a bathroom stall, will see if anyone is humming or whistling the theme - feels like he affected them on a level they're not aware of -
TYLER BATES
MOBY - the one art form that doesn't technically exist - you can't put your finger on music - it's just air waves moving a little differently
Film music being used outside of film - Remember the Titans - Obama, whatever the audience felt in the theater was resonant again
HANS ZIMMER - LAST PEOPLE ON EARTH THAT FREQUENTLY COMMISSION ORCHESTRAL PIECES - WITHOUT THEM, ORCHESTRAL MUSIC WOULD DISAPPEAR, WOULD BE A CULTURAL LOSS TO HUMANITY, - we all have fragility, when i play you a piece of music, i completely expose myself, and that's a very scary moment - i love i love i love what I do -
music plays such an important role in a film
film music i one of the great art form of the 20th and 21st century
RYAN TAUBERT - SCORE
James Horner - titanic - sketch out on synthesizer

The HIGH TIMES Interview: Marzi Montazeri
I arranged to meet guitarist Marzi Montazeri (former Phil Anselmo and the Illegals) a couple of weeks ago at the Rainbow Bar and Grill on Sunset Strip. The plan was to enjoy a few drinks, have a nice dinner and dive into the interview like a true, brazen professional. But as with any situation involving rock ‘n’ roll, an insatiable thirst for cheap beer and the adrenaline that was sure to spill while mingling in the very spot where legendary bands like Led Zeppelin and Mötley Crüe once came to relish in drunken savagery, the chances of getting out of there with any memory of the night whatsoever, much less with a well documented account of Marzi’s current affairs, were not on my side.
I thought about this, as my Uber driver dropped me off in front of the bar. “Welcome to the drunken jungle,” I thought. “You’re screwed.”
Once inside, I could tell the evening was destined to go down pretty much the way I had anticipated. There was simply too much happening all around us to properly take care of the business at hand. But then again, I began to ponder, through a series of two-fisted flashes of quasi-philosophic swill and burp-infused backwash, how this meeting was never really about work—although I had an editor back in New York that would surely beg to differ. From where I was sitting, Marzi and I were just a couple of guys with good intentions, each doing their best to conduct themselves like true masters of their respective trade in the midst of a wild-eyed Saturday night. Greater men than us would have broken under the weight of less debauchery. I had watched it happen countless times before.
Somewhere along the way, the mission, my assignment to find out more about this prolific guitar player, had taken backseat to the rapid pulse of the Hollywood music scene, and there was a point—I swear to the Gods of Earth and heavy metal, there was—when Marzi began to subliminally transmit a signal to me from across the table, quite possibly in the key of E-flat minor, that when translated to the English language sounded a whole lot like, “Fuck this interview shit, let’s just go out back and get stoned.”
So, that’s what we did.
We fired up a joint in what has been deemed Lemmy’s Lounge and proceeded to smoke the damn thing as though we were literally standing in the boots of those untouchable high heroes that had come before us. But the grand illusion was soon shattered when one of the Rainbow’s security guards politely told us that we would have to take the weed outside. Of course, we obliged. It was then that Marzi, a real charismatic force and all around nice guy, really began to loosen up. The man had a story to tell. So, no matter how hard his manager mad dogged me from across the way (at least that was my perception… but then again, I was probably just high), I kept my recorder rolling the entire time. It seemed the interview would go down as planned.
HIGH TIMES: You’re in town playing the Randy Rhoads Remembered show at the Jost Theater. How did you get involved with that project?
Marzi Montazeri: Brian Tichy, a former drummer for Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Billy Idol and a slew of other folks, reached out to see if I was interested in playing. So I came out here [to Los Angeles] and picked out S.A.T.O. [from Ozzy’s “Diary of a Madman”], because I really wanted to play that song. I think Sebastian Bach wanted to play it also, so I was like, “Whoa, I get to jam with Sebastian.” But then Tichy told me that Sebastian wanted to play it with his guitar player. On the night of the show, they told me that Gus G [former Ozzy guitarist] cancelled, so they wanted me to play “Mr. Crowley” instead. Crowley has two solos in it, so I had to learn the stuff real quick.
HT: Hell yeah, I saw that video. You got to jam with legendary bassist Rudy Sarzo. How was that experience?
MM: You know, so the time comes to go on stage, and I’m taking a leak, and I hear someone calling my name, “Marzi!” So I just run downstairs grab my fiddle, jump on stage and we started playing “Crowley.”
When it was over, I looked to my right and Rudy’s just walking towards me, man, and he reaches out his hand for a handshake. I shake his hand and say, “I love you, man,” and then he pulls me in for a hug. It was a very emotional moment for me. It was absolutely cool. This time around, on Thursday night, as a matter of fact, I got to jam with Phil Soussan.
HT: You also performed with a Rush tribute this week at the Jost Theater.
MM: Yes. I played in “A Farewell to Kings,” which is four decades of Rush music. I picked the song “Anthem” from the Fly By Night album. I knew I could get away with playing it a little bit heavier than what Rush had done it and still pay homage to it…and so I did. I think that’s probably the heaviest version of “Anthem” being played, you know. I know other bands have covered it, but I did it quite differently that night. I even pulled off Alex’s [Lifeson] solo close to what he had done, even though I’m not the note for note guy. It was really fun.
HT: Washburn is about the release a signature series Marzi Montazeri guitar called “The Priestess.” How did that come about? I mean, how does a musician end up getting his own guitar model?
MM: A big part of it has to do with a gentleman named Joe Delaney, who is the president of U.S. Music Corporation. I had my eyes set on a signature amp, to be honest with you, and that’s what the talks were about…and it’s still going to happen. It’s going to happen next year at NAMM—my Marzi Montazeri signature head. But with the guitar, that’s first obviously, that was the push from Joe. I think he has the same kind of spirit as I do. When he saw me play, I think he saw this wild American blues, hard rock, aggressive metal, extreme player, where it was just like fun and dangerous. I think that’s what he liked about me, and he pushed for it.
So he connected me with Greg Heritier, who has been with Washburn for about 15 years, and Greg and I—Greg lives in Amsterdam mind you, I live in Houston, Texas—went back and forth in the beginning. It was like a tennis match. We weren’t seeing eye-to-eye. He had some vision and I had some other vision. But we created this baby together. The Priestess that you see today is our baby. It’s the fruit of our labor, so to speak. I got to tell you, it exceeded my expectations. It’s comfortable to play it and it gets so many different varieties of tones from like a Les Paul to the thing I love the most, which is a Gibson Firebird. Seymor Duncan designed a couple of Humbuckers for me we call “Hickups,” instead of pickups, because I’m a damn hick. It’s an extreme instrument…you can just get after it, you can go crazy with it, and you can literally play any sound of music that you want with it. It’s about to be available through Musician’s Friend.
HT: Let’s address the elephant in the room. What happened with Phil Anselmo and the Illegals?
MM: It ran its course. I did what I was supposed to do and it ended. I found out through the Internet. Someone posted a picture of the band with another guitar player, so that’s how I found out. I was more relieved than anything. It had run its course for me, and musically I’m obviously already doing other things. I’m glad it happened. I’m really happy where I’m at, and I wouldn’t be here right now if that gig wouldn’t of happened. I have no ill feelings whatsoever, and what I accomplished during that time was notable. I’m off to a new chapter.
HT: When you and I first met in St. Louis during the PHA and Illegals “Technicians of Distortion” tour a couple of years back, you seemed pretty excited to get started on the band’s second record. Did everything just go to shit from there?
MM: In my heart, I thought there was going to be a sophomore attempt, but a sophomore attempt would have pushed that band, especially with the same line up, to another level. And I don’t think it was something they were welcoming with me being a part of it. I require a certain type of attention. I’m a songwriter. I’m not a follower. I’m not going to have my contribution not be noted, and they were not noted. I was not credited for the things I had done, so I wanted to take charge of that this time around.
HT: So, that’s when you decided to go out on your own?
MM: You know, I was really anxious because I obviously want to put music out, but I didn’t want to rush anything. I thought, “What do I have to prove…why don’t I take my time and do certain things to make sure that this music gets heard on a broader scale.” So I met with a friend of mine [Paul Provost] that had the same idea about my career, so we became partners and started a label called Crunchy Western Records, which pretty much describes what type of music I play. If you were to dissect that label, I would call it heavy Texas blues and beyond. Now you can take that to any kind of southern genre and change it to Mississippi and you’re still going to get that same kind of thing. I think there’s a little bit of Marzi in everybody, so I wanted to make sure that I get this music out to people and share it with them.
HT: Does that mean there is a new Marzi record coming out in the near future?
MM: Yes. My first attempt on Crunchy Western is slated for 4-20, for obvious reasons. It is Marzi Montazeri featuring Tim “Ripper” Owens… or something like that. It’s just me and Tim Owens, who is former Judas Priest. It’s unlike anything else he’s done before, which makes it really interesting. It’s refreshing, and at a time like today, for us to be doing what we’re doing, I cannot wait for the people to hear it. We got Chris Collier, a Grammy nominated engineer/producer from Los Angeles to work on this record. He has put his golden touch on it and made it sound absolutely amazing. I can’t wait, and it’s coming April 20th. By then, we will probably release a video or sneak peak of song. And that’s just the beginning.
HT: How did you get involved with Tim Owens?
MM: I was backstage trying to catch my breath after a show ,and this girl comes and says, “Bobby Blotzer from Ratt wants to say hi to you.” Now I’m like in North Houston, okay, what’s a Hollywood boy doing there? I thought they were full of shit, and I was like, “Go fuck yourself.” The door opens up and he’s just sneaking his head in. He was lit up and said something about doing too many shooters. I didn’t know what “shooters” were because we do shots in Texas. He tells me my performance was the greatest display of metal he had ever seen. We befriended each other that night. He later invited me out to his house for a little barbecue. After that, he asked if I wanted to be on the Judas Priest tribute record [Hell Bent Forever]. We were going to do the song “Exciter.”
He had a studio in Houston, and when I showed up he said, “Where’s your guitar?” I told him I brought a pick. I was so unprepared. There was a cool guy at the studio and he let me borrow his Les Paul. As I’m warming up, this guy tells me, “Hey, you know I come to Houston often. If you want me to give you guitar lessons, I will.” It was Tim Owens. He’s perfect. His harmonies are amazing. He is a freaking machine, man, and he’s a true gentleman. He’s an articulate guy who takes care of business, and to top it all off, he has a great sense of humor.
HT: What about your band Heavy As Texas. Can we expect to hear new music from that as well?
MM: Yes. The next release we’re doing is from my band Heavy As Texas. It’s got unbelievable members in it, just great, talented, beautiful people. We got the great Kyle Thomas of the original Exhorder from New Orleans. Best heavy band ever. He was with many other bands, like Alabama Thunder Pussy, which had a hit song called “Words of a Dying Man.” It was on MTV. He is now the current singer for Trouble, and he is also the current singer for Heavy As Texas.
HT: Are there plans to tour with any of these projects?
MM: Definitely. Not only will Heavy As Texas tour the U.S., we’re going to go to Canada, Central and South America, and I really predict Europe before anything else, too.
HT: I was just talking to a member of your crew. He told me that you get stoned before every live performance. Is that true… because your playing seems flawless?
MM: Oh man, yes absolutely. It’s a ritual. There’s nothing wrong with it. Best thing to do is to medicate. But I’ve never done it for the sake of wasting time. It’s always inspired me. First thing marijuana did for me in my twenties was make me a more focused musician. I was such a sporadic, son of a bitch guitar player… all over the place. It made me very perceptive in this world where you have nothing but distractions. So I’d put in a movie like “Pink Floyd: The Wall” with my buddies back in high school. I’d even tell em’, “Man, not a peep out of you motherfuckers. Nobody talks until after the movie and we can discuss.” So we’d burn one and watch the movie. You could tell everyone was into it. You can hit a joint without having to flap your damn mouth. And it was awesome. Then we would have a lot of pizza and jam out. You know there’s always a fun aspect to it.
HT: So do you prefer marijuana to booze?
MM: The alcohol versus marijuana debate is the most asinine, ignorant thing I grew up with. I still hear about it, and I’m like, “you must be joking.” People drinking bottles of whiskey, looking down on you cause you smoke weed. Living in Texas, it’s just taboo. They sit there with a drink in their hands, slurring their words, but criticize me for doing something natural, from the earth, to help myself focus or help myself because I’m sick…because I am, in many different ways.
HT: Have you ever been busted for marijuana possession?
MM: Man, I’ve had so many brushes with the law, it’s not even funny. But it is funny as hell. I can tell you stories for days. One time, we had like a half-pound, and my buddy and me get pulled over. Both of us had warrants. The cop took our licenses and you know, the pot was right under my feet. He came back and said, “You both have warrants, you know.” I was just thinking of all these bad things, and then he tells us that he doesn’t feel like dealing with it. It was after hours, and he was ready to go home, so he pardoned us and said, “I’m sure you guys are going to take care of these warrants.”
Another time, I had a couple J’s rolled in my truck for after a gig. The truck was a ’62 Ford…no tags or insurance. I don’t know why I took it to the gig. So we get pulled over by eight state troopers. It wasn’t eight in the beginning, it was just one. But they were like piling up one after another. I gave these two joints to my guitar tech and told him to get rid of them. This cop got us out and he questioned us. I remember he put me back in the truck, and he took my friend out. He was asking us if we had dope, and of course we told him no. He’s going through my guitar case, going through my cables and then second car comes, third car comes, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth car comes.
So they get us out and say, “what do we got here?” My brilliant friend had just tossed them, but the eight cops found them. So the main guy gets me out, but before I get to the bed of my truck he says, “We can talk about two chicken shit joints all night or,” as soon as he said they’re chicken shit joints, I told him they were mine. I saw anger in him, so I fessed up quickly. I told him I was going to smoke them after my show. And he says, “Well, why did you lie to me?” I said I got nervous man, I’m scared, my girlfriend’s 10 months pregnant. I remember saying that: My girlfriend’s fucking 10 months pregnant (laughs). Then he said, “Go on and get then.” I swear to you. Go on and get. After 45 minutes, get it to a climax like that. I fucking took off and got with my buddy. The joints were on the dash and I helped myself to one on the way home. Good times. It was awesome.
