Sketch dump time! A whole bunch of requests from the crazy ex-bird app

In Order: Maisie, Pam, Colette, Buster, Chester, Chuster ❤️🧡 (and a teeny Gus), Leon and Sandy (Leondy 💚💜), Bull, El Primo, and Mandy!

Extra notes about each sketch:

Maisie:

Her breath attack is a condensed foam material, similar to that of a fire extinguisher. Using a gas similar to a pressurized CO² (based on gas-based fire extinguishers!), she shoots it out at high speeds. These hits can potentially cause frostbite and even severe damage to the body if left unattended. She's quite powerful in this AU due to this ability 👀👀 being able to put out the fires and overpower another dragon's breath? Now THAT'S some queen moves right there! She can also simply spray out the foam substance at short range without that pressurized gas. This helps with more close range fire fighting work.

Her right wing and front leg were undeveloped, a disability she'd had since she hatched. However! With the help of mechanics, she uses these prosthetics to help her fly. Still gotta test out how to draw it to make sense, as well as sort out how it stays in place. I've been using inspiration from Toothless (HTTYD) and his tail that Hiccup made.

Pam:

Pam is a bulkier dragon, very much on the larger side of all of them. I'm at odds with myself to figure out whether ot not she'll have wings 🤔 so I had two copies there! Perhaps her wings may be a bit smaller if I do give her them.

Pam spits out molten magma that's stored up inside her as an attack. However, it can also be chunks of scrap metal that she stores up. Otherwise, it's just magma.

Though I didn't draw this, I want Pam to be very resilient to fire in general, as her species/family of dragon use their ability to spew this magma (technically Lava after ut leaves her body? I'll do more research on this...) in order to craft and shape metal. While other dragons need to spend some time to build up a fire hot enough, the Junker family line is able to do this much more easily. (Amber is a close second, though)

Her skin has the ability to crack and seep up lava out of it, potentially coating her body in this to give herself a temporary lava shield, something extremely hard to break through. (In the future, little Jessie may also be able to do this... however, Pam doesn't think she's ready at the moment and avoids the topic or any ideas of teaching her how.)

Colette:

Colette flies in a sort of funny way, twirling around and flapping her wings to maintain somewhat of a chaotic flight pattern. Think of a snake slithering through the sky, but with large wings and the grace of... a teenage dragon (not much, but it does work).

When she gets better at flying...pray and hope she isn't able to catch up to her favourite brawlers cause she isn't ever gonna let go of them 💀 It makes for a great attack, actually! Charging at enemies and coiling around them like a snake to prevent movement, like a big hug ❤️ she just loves everyone SO much 😍

Buster:

Finally kinda set on a design for this funky guy! He's a larger dragon (smaller than El Primo or Frank, but still definitely up there in size)

His wings never quite grew fully, so he wouldn't be able to fly 😔 however, that'll never stop him and his dreams of being a cool movie star 🧡🧡

Buster, at the heart of it, is an unstoppable force when he sets his mind to something. He'll charge in with the same ferocity as his favouite protagonists, rivalling the audacity and hard-headed nature of even Bull! All while doing so for his friends 💪 we love Buster in this AU frfr

Chester:

Chester always has theatrics when he flies. Flips, spins, and fun aerodynamic movements up in the sky! He's gotta compensate for his lack of speed compared to other wyverns after all, but he thinks he's pretty great 😎

Loved drawing this kinda unique pose tbh! That's what I loved with these drawings, I got to experiment without really thinking too much for em with how polished and clean that look. It was very fun! 🔥

Chuster ft. Gus❤️🧡:

We love some goofy gays here 🥹❤️🧡 I just wanted to let em have a little nuzzle + smooch! Dragons don't necessarily kiss, but little side boops like this are the equivalent of a cheek kiss.

Also, a little Gus on the side 🥹🥹 I love this sort of found family dynamic that have! Buster being the cool dad vibe/big bro to Gus, and then Buster being in a relationship with Chester so that he's also a cool dad too 😎 Gus loved these two guys from the very start, they're funny 🤭 never a boring day for these silly lads.

Leondy 💚💜:

My beloveds 🤲 I really do cherish the ship, as well as strong friendship Sandy and Leon have. (Btw in my HCs, Leon and Sandy are 13 & 14 respectively, just to clear that up!)

Sandy, I've mentioned a few times, is very inspired by Capybaras, so Leon finding one is just perfect 🤭 silly little deadpan face lads.

Bull:

BULLDOZERRRR- What a lad! Bull is inspired by- uh, Bulls! Great creatures, large bodies and thick necks to support those headstrong charges 🐂 I love making his posture all confident, strong steps to say, "Yeah. You TRY and stand up to me. I DARE you." Don't wanna mess with him on most days 🏃‍♀️💨💨

El Primo:

Still figuring out a full-body for El Primo, bit he's roughly the same size as Bull! (Maybe a bit bigger)

El Primo has got really small wings, similar to his El Dragón skin. Even his scales and horns are inspired by that mostly! Love when characters have preexisting dragon themed skins 🤭 makes it a lot easier to make ideas!

His "mask" is actually just body paint. He has similar paint on his body, really showing off the vibrant colours and persona he puts on for the crowds.

He WILL beat up his enemies into a pulp in matches. Thank goodness there's the gem powered regeneration and the respawn system in place 😭 I plan to give him a very strong body and tail, enough to support him when he needs to go on his hind legs and overpower his opponents. Buster is designed in a similar way as well!

Mandy:

Last but not least, the Queen of Candy herself. Not even the Dragon AU let's her escape fast food work 😔😔

Her super attack is purely a magical sugar-based rainbow blast, as shown in the sketch. Also, I'm now realizing that I forgot her red spots oml- No wonder she looks so empty 💀 uhh sorry about that, lads 😭 I'll redraw her one day to show off that glowing effect of her spots 🥹🥹

some post wad weekend thoughts...

i just wrote all this on the plane and haven't read it through so apologies for any mistakes

first of all, this weekend was incredible. i usually just kinda sit at home doing not much of anything, and this was a much needed break to actually have some fun. london in general always lifts my spirits but i suppose that danisnotonfire guy contributed a little as well.

guys i think i've met more people the past few days than i otherwise have in years. like. holy shit. i started listing people but i'm petrified i'll forget someone so i chickened out, sorry about that. but you all know who you are. i've met friends i've had for years, people i used to know but haven't spoken to in what feels like a decade, newer friends, and a frankly baffling amount of people i didn't know yet but who told me they've followed me for ages. like holy fuck you guys lmao what the hell??? and i mean did the reaction ever get old no of course it didn't. bad for my ego i'm sure but totally worth it. there's something very amusing and incredibly surreal about being chronically lame in most aspects of life and then suddenly finding yourself in an environment where you're kinda cool???? SO fucking fun oh my god, but also i do kinda feel like i've tricked you all? but hey i'll happily let you keep believing i'm cool, that is more than fine with me.

most importantly though everyone was SO lovely. like i said i don't think i've spoken to this many people in such a short amount of time in years and every single person i talked to was awesome. guys did you know phannies are kind of great... don't tell anyone but, lowkey... everyone is so funny and cool and absolutely insane but in a good way (shoutout everyone left at the gates until the very end, we should probably get some help).

and then lastly of course, mr howell himself. i talk about this a lot i feel like but fuck me that man was born to perform. whether you think he's actually funny or not, nobody can argue he doesn't absolutely thrive on a stage. he plays off the audience so well and he's so very obviously having the time of his fucking life. i'd already seen the show twice before this, and i didn't think anything would top the previous london show but man... the first night he came back out after the show having clearly been tearing up backstage, apologising for being an inconsistent absent parent, and i can't lie the "i had daddy issues and THEN i subscribed to dan howell" got me cause yeah no literally dude, you nailed it, exactly, well done. i think something about doing this show again, his magnum opus as he considers it, now after the dapg return was very special to him. he seems genuinely surprised that so many of us were ready to just jump back in like nothing happened, i don't think he was expecting so many people to still be waiting and it's... man. he comes off so grateful for us all and it's so fucking sweet. and then on the last night, i think that was my favourite, when the show ended and he got the standing ovation and people throwing him flowers.. he was so HAPPY. and clearly overwhelmed with emotion which, i gotta say, there is something honestly kinda funny about daniel howell standing in front of you trying not to cry. like no by all means dude go ahead, please, you've made me cry an endless amount of times it's only fair.

ugh. i'm proud of him or whatever. dick. and i'm proud of our ridiculous fucking community. i'm not sure what 14 year old nora would say if you'd told me i'd still be kicking it in the phandom a decade on, but at almost 25 (fml) i'm so so happy to be here still. you know, we get a bad rep, but i genuinely think as far as fanbases go we're pretty solid. and i love you all so much.

i believe i will have to rob a bank or something because the next time dan and/or phil do a tour i think i'll have to just show up at every date like i'm sorry but this was too good of a high we need to do it again immediately

I'm alive! I've been busy with life, priorities, and "me time", but I am of the living!

I did manage to find time to watch the first two eps of SakaDays - and boy was it ever fun!!! A rushed rush, if you will. Sad we won't get to see Officer Nakase. I hope we get to see Sakamoto fight tooth and nail for Hana-chan's backpack though!!!

Been having trouble with cloud8 motivation! Writing in general, really! The muse, it escapes me, but I won't force it lol. Can't get nothing done if I force myself.

Looking back on 2024

✧ I wrote 21k words in published AO3 SakaDays fanfiction. A few more thousands I'm sure if you include all the Tumblr-only stuff. It's not much, but it's honest work! Considering I just came back to writing after 8 years in July 2024, I'd say I did purdy darn good!

✧ My LinkedIn Rewind (with some deets omitted):

✧ Last year, I did a huge canyon swing by myself! Maybe this year I'll bungee jump or sky dive. Or both.

✧ Was part of several peace forums for Palestine, Sudan, and more. Still shaking my head at the yt people at the table. It's like talking to Trump's nonexistent wall.

✧ I also represented Canada at an international UN conference in New York. Same issues where I'm shaking my head so hard. At least I met some like-frustrated people.

��� Did 3 talks (2 compensated, 1 global, 1 national). Looking forward to doing more this year!

✧ Took on a new mentee - another woman of colour with huge aspirations!!!

2025 so far

✧ My first policy advocacy letter was selected for International Development Week! I got paid AND they'll publicize it for all to see!!! Hopefully the dang government not only sees it but listens. I did their job laid out all the groundwork for them, so they better!

✧ My new job is about a double income boost. But we'll see what that actually is like after taxes lmao. I don't plan on buying another house, so I'll be buying experiences (travels, food, more food). I've been riding the zero waste / anti-capitalism movement for a few years now, so I'm going to buy minimal merch (I say this now). KonMari that shit.

✧ I'm looking forward to snowballing on my achievements, but not to the point of burnout (again lmaooo god we shall see orz).

I don't even know what to say or how to recap

Officially broke up with 🍄

Though I forgot to reiterate that I need physical intimacy to happen on my timeline

I told him about how he raped me. Id almost forgotten about it. And I guess everything clicked for him. Cause he didn't try and deny it at all. He immediately accepted it and was like "oh fuck"

And apparently that made everything make sense. That otherwise all my actions have been me overreacting or "didn't make sense" but honestly who the fuck cares why I need boundaries or am unstable. That "i won't bother you about your sign anymore" (on my door that says "Text or Discord"). Like what???? My sign still deserved respecting no matter what!

We've both been feeling gaslist. And walking on eggshells which is hilarious. But I finally can really see his perspective more clearly. And yeah it makes sense. I'm fucking crazy as hell and it takes a specific kind of person to navigate that unscathed(namely one that's done some of their own trauma work lolol).

Towards the end we talked about me being unsafe a lot. What that means. Why that's really hard on him to live with. Why it's unfair on me to have to life somewhere I feel unsafe. He felt really uncomfortable with there being "text proof" of my unsafety on discord in a message he sent me. Apparently people have suggested to him that if something happened to me it would obviously be him and I'd have a better legal case against him. And I'm just like lololol. At least he has the decency to know it was highly unlikely I'd do anything.

And then I told him I wanted the relationship to end. And went on to say I wanted to still talk about what we both wanted out of a relationship and better consent/commit to what we were getting into. Because there was expectations on the relationship that I didn't realize were there and putting pressure on me. And I think his brain switched off for a moment after I said breakup cause he didn't respond to anything but that after a moment.

With telling me I should move out. Part of the unsafety convo about was here too. Because he felt i needed to go somewhere I was safer. And he wouldn't charge me rent. And he wouldn't buy weed for me anymore. Or make/share meals anymore. Or generally help me out beyond to help me physically move. And just....oooooooof. Asserted that it was primarily because I felt unsafe that he would ask me to leave. Even tho it literally wasn't until I broke up. Because apparently "well if you were still in the relationship then clearly you felt safe enough and you're just deescalating which means you're saying I'm an unsafe person and-"

I almost broke down. Quickly texted 💪 about it. But as I was doing that also like going wtf??? You literally promised that even if we broke up you wouldn't do that??? Like this is literally the safest place I have where am I gonna go? Back to eli??? Fuck it I'll be out in 3 days. And then he started backpeddling and being like "well you don't have to go immediately, just soon." Almost 2hrs into checkin at this point.

We talked a bunch more after that. It's hard to hold it all. At the end of the convo we both felt better about it all. Ended with this Self Love game he got, that took an hour of the time itself. It was good tho.

who made the first move: when samuel saw the poster of ida announcing her arrival at rusty lake, he was almost immediately infatuated. he went down to visit her and help set up, and then he brought her lunch after, which they ate in the grass in front of her newly-built tent.

who kissed who first: samuel was taught to be a gentleman by his mother, so he always thought to ask before a kiss. ida made him flustered though. she caught on immediately, and kissed him first. when he came home dumbstruck with red lipstick smeared on his lips, mary smiled and emma just laughed.

who started the relationship: there was a point when they both realized that they were pretty much spending every day together. emma teased samuel about it a lot, and told him to work up the courage to ask to officially court her. mary told him that it was improper to continue the way they were, and samuel's a huge mama's boy, so he listened. the next time he went to visit ida, he went with a bouquet of wildflowers in hand. emma is samuel's best friend, so she was the first one to know about it.

who remembers things: i'd say both of them, but mostly ida.

nicknames for each other: ida - "darling", "my love", and variants of the name "samuel" ("sam", etc); samuel - "doll", "my treasure", and "i" or "da". he also sometimes teasingly calls her "reiziger". on occasion, he calls her "my rose" for her beautiful red hair, and she always gives him a knowing look.

who is more likely to pay for dinner: samuel. ida gets the princess treatment, always.

who normally cooks: kind of a cop-out answer, but mary does most of the family's cooking. she taught samuel how to cook, and he enjoys it too. every once in a while, however, ida will cook a new romani dish for the family. they are always greatly enjoyed.

who remembers anniversaries: ida has an impeccable memory, so she obviously remembers something as important to the relationship as an anniversary. samuel remembers too, and he gets ida an anniversary present without fail. he tells her that her existence in his life is enough of a gift to him.

what would they get each other for gifts: samuel always buys ida jewelry when they go out. otherwise, it's usually flowers he's picked or a little trinket he carved. ida often does readings for him

most trivial thing they fight over: they honestly don't fight much??? the only thing i can think of though is that sometimes ida can be very cryptic and nonchalant, leading to samuel stressing because he thinks she knows something he doesn't, especially about the future. being around ida has 100% turned him into a believer, and sometimes he gets anxious looking at her crystal ball.

how often do they fight: like i said, not often.

who uses all the hot water: samuel. definitely.

who calls up the super/landlord when the heat’s not working: nobody! samuel can fix it himself 💪

who leaves their stuff around: samuel has a habit of bringing his carpentry tools into the house. it drives mary and emma crazy, if anything, but ida doesn't mind.

who remembers to buy the milk: this one's difficult because it's hard to know how the vanderbooms get groceries from the outside world. it's possible they have a cow??—in which case samuel would milk it—or they even get it delivered. i'd love to see them have a little old neighbor who's like "hmm they never go out so i'll just bring them groceries" and he becomes a family friend whom they have over for dinner often until one day he hasn't heard from the vanderbooms in a while and he rows over and albert's standing on the dock wearing a mask and he's like "your services are no longer required here, old man" and the dude rows away apprehensively, staring at albert who doesn't move an inch until the little boat is out of sight and AHH i'm getting carried away. the answer is probably samuel.

who controls the netflix queue: samuel loves his netflix specials.

who steals the covers at night: samuel. ida will pettily yank them sometimes, prompting samuel to wake up, and they'll both laugh.

who cusses more: samuel, but he has mary, emma, and leonard policing his behavior. the second he swears, leonard is holding a little hand out, waiting for money to add to the swear jar ida mde him.

who does most of the cleaning: kinda both of them? it's a huge house, so domestic labor is split pretty evenly.

what’s their favorite non-sexual activity: hard to say because they do so much together. they like playing games, picnics, traveling and exploring the area around the lake, cooking, and just relaxing together. sometimes they'll stay up late just talking and enjoying each other's company. ida light's samuel's pipe, and they chat until it's time for bed.

who’s the cuddler: samuel. sometimes he'll just pull ida onto the couch with him and fall asleep in her arms after a long day.

who’s the big spoon/little spoon: depends. it used to be samuel mostly, but he finds he really likes it when ida holds him. it makes him feel safe and appreciated.

who’s more dominant: we know it's ida bfr

who is the dirty talker: both. samuel also really likes it when ida speaks romani to him. this isn't dirty talking, but on a related note, he likes it when she holds him, runs her fingers through his hair, and softly says random things in romani.

what do they do when they’re away from each other: samuel does a lot of carpentry and woodworking on a daily basis, so he would just carry on as usual, especially because ida doesn't like to stick around. as for ida, if she were the one out, she'd just enjoy her travels. if it were samuel, she'd turn to her crystal ball and tarot cards.

what would they do if the other one was hurt: it would make samuel anxious to see ida sick or hurt. he would devote much of his time to caring for her and visiting her bedside. eventually, he got used to it when she was bedridden during her pregnancy with leonard, and he became much more relaxed about it. ida, on the other hand, is a very relaxed woman by nature, and she knows a thing or two about injuries since she's spent so much time on the road. she would take it on the chin, and deal with it in an appropriate manner.

a headcanon: leaving the lake was pretty normal before albert became the man of the house. however, samuel was still pretty sheltered as a boy because he didn't leave much after his father passed. ida loves traveling, and she takes him often. the first time they went together, samuel was a little dumbstruck, and in awe of the architecture especially. he spent twenty minutes staring through the window of a furniture shop, and then he finally went inside and bought like fifteen bottles of wood polish. they continued the tradition weekly, and eventually, they saw amsterdam together, and even brussels and paris.

Yeah, the Tweels and their parents have pretty much the same taste in a lot of ways: their favourite type of person is someone who is entertaining (important!) and bulliable for them. Maybe this is why Papa and Mama Leech aren’t as intimate anymore: none of them is willing to be the bullied one lol But Mama Leech is also kind of an emotional vampire, so she likes emotional people, people who are easy to manipulate and who would do anything she asks for. As for Papa Leech, he really loves intimidating and dominating. If Mama Leech picks a person, it’ll take some time before she gets bored of them. But Papa Leech tosses the boys (and the girls) away pretty easily and quickly, without getting too obsessed with them.

To answer your first question… it hasn’t happened yet, but it’s not impossible. The fact that this is their son’s partner wouldn’t stop either of them, it’s just that Mama Leech would act like a tortured sinful woman who really regrets it (she doesn’t), and Papa Leech would simply groom the guy with a meaningful conversation and fuck his guts out a couple of hours later. I guess that would be one of the reasons for the Tweels not to show their potential boyfriends (boytoys?) to their parents, they just know that if they get too intruigued, there is always a chance that poor Riddle or Idia would get stolen for an hour or two.

hi!! i have 2 raw, uncleaned fleeces of wool i got (for free!) from facebook that have been sitting in my house for like two years bc i don’t know what to do with them — can you give a quick explanation on how you clean your fleeces? i’d love to be able to finally start doing something with them, instead of them just sitting there waiting around :)

It is my second time working with raw fleece, so I'm not the best to ask, but I'll do my best to help you 💪

You can use heat and some sort of detergent

Or fermentation

Detergents you can add are: pot ash, power scour, dish soap, wool detergent (what I did the first time) and many more

With fermentation you use the help of water, warmth, microbes and some time to break down everything except for plant matter here is a guide for that with some science

(probably the technic that uses the least amount of water and energy, but is supposed to smell REALLY bad)

Then you have the cleaning with detergent.

Use a container of your choose that is resident to some heat. Add the detergent of your choice hot water (depending how hot your tab water runs you don't need to boil Any water, mine gets to roughly 47°C and seemed to clean the fleece alright) make Shure the fleece is completely submerged, and let it sit.

You want it to have enough time for the detergent to really get to work on the lanolind and loose everything form the fleece, but not to long for the water to cool down to much (otherwise tue lanolin hardens again, and won't rinse out)

After it sat long enough rinse everything out. Make Shure the temperature of the water you use is close to the one you used for the soap water (temperature shock felts) also move it as less as possible (this also felts, surprise :D ) let it dry.

If your fleece still feels soapy after that, repeat (vegetable matter and stuff will be cleaned out with the combing or carding)

And then you have the scouring with potash, but I am too tired to go into it, also there seems to be MANY different ways to clean fleece with potash...

(I'll go Into some details when I come to the potash cleaning maybe this week)

I wrote a lot of McKirk this year, so honestly, it has to be Bones. But! I really enjoyed how I wrote Jocelyn in the way things unearth (explicit), that was so much fun, I had an absolute ball writing that version of her. 10/10 best fic I wrote all year

Three! aisle three and The Sky Atrium (both explicit) are both on the go. I wrote of lot of different things in Nov and burnt myself out a little bit, but I literally just posted a short one shot, so hopefully I'm back on the writing grind 💪 I really want to get the next (and hopefully final) chapter of The Sky Atrium wrapped up asap. I also have an unposted One Piece fic on the go too.

aishire's side of THUTKE will be a dating sim (more so a friendship sim but dating sim gives an immediate idea of what it'll be like) and it takes place right after aishire gets a new job right after graduation, and loses all her friends bc she was so wrapped up in her studies she neglected all of them (he does feel. very bad about this. he just convinces himself he didn't need people who didn't whole heartedly support her.)

the only friend aishire DOES have is veraswamy who encourages her to go out and talk to more people and she is very reluctant to do so, she more so wants to pour all her energy into creating the next best weapon to end the war (which is still on-going at this point, its only mid way through the war)

it switches between aishire recruiting more sponsors for her product + finally making friends (the recreational heads, the achaeans (briefly), and the divine comedy crew) and aishire collecting souls to create her weapon of mass destruction (she can choose to kill people she makes friends with bezaliel as soon as she starts flirting with them briefly (they are down bad)(there's only one true ending but there's dozens where aishire ends up losing all her new friends and being alone again))

her superweapon is her toolbox btw. and she does eventually collect enough souls just from how many people are dying at the battlefield and she requests those who use her prototype to give her the souls of ppl who died to put into her toolbox

eventually, she accidentally makes a small black hole (she makes one during project martyr (the actual project) on purpose but this is purely by accident)

but she manages to control it and it becomes vaguely. human. very vaguely. it's become an entirely different creature.

🥹 Aw, I'm glad!! Thank you for sending an ask! This was actually one of my first F1 WIPs, but it was requiring sooo much research that I took a break that turned into a complete abandonment. But hopefully, I'll go back to it one day!

Here's a little snippet I wrote for Charles' first day in the paddock 💪

The only word his brain has the capacity for after the first day is tired. 

The minute they land in Melbourne, they’re heading to the track to begin setting up the garage for the arrival of the cars. Charles gets issued a full team kit, including socks with the Ferrari logo. As soon as he puts them on, he finally feels like it’s real. It’s really happening.

“You’re, Charles, yes?” one of the mechanics asks him in Italian while they’re setting up. “From Monte Carlo?”

He nods. “Yes, nice to meet you...”

“Alessandro. But you can call me, Alé. I believe we’re roommates.”

“Nice to meet you, Alé,” Charles says, shaking his hand. The other man seems young, but still older than Charles. “What do you do?”

“I’m a gearbox mechanic,” Alé says, smiling. “And I operate the front-right gun for the pit. My first race was Melbourne in 2017. So I know what you’re feeling right now.”

“And what am I feeling?” Charles asks, arching a brow in challenge.

“Scared as shit,” Alé says, grinning. Charles laughs, but he doesn’t have the heart to correct him. He’s not scared - if anything, he’s the most ready he’s ever felt. But he doesn’t think anyone would believe him if he said so. “Your Italian is not bad.” 

Charles knows this means it’s quite good, otherwise Alé wouldn’t have said anything. “I’ve been learning since I was a child.” Alé nods.

“Is it ‘Sharl’ or ‘Charles’?” Alé asks, pronouncing it with and without the ‘s’ sound at the end.

“Either is okay,” he says, shrugging. “I like both.”

“Well, you’re very easygoing,” Alé says, chuckling. “Very polite.” Charles smiles, but it occurs to him that maybe he’s being made fun of. He brushes it off though, focusing back on what he’s doing.

Everything, of course, becomes even more real when the cars arrive and he has to begin his real work. He’s been assigned especially to the brake department, as they’ve started to see a brake overheating issue and needed someone dedicated to monitoring them and replacing parts if necessary. 

He records the thickness of all of the brake pads and discs, so he can later examine the wear after practice and qualifying sessions. It’s a clockwise circuit, so Charles in addition to putting the slightly denser brake pads at the front of both cars, installs the heaviest at the left-front brake. They’re meant to all be the same size, but there are always slightly heavier pads and discs.

In addition to this job, he’s also part of the car crew for what will this year be Carlos Sainz’s car. He knows a bit about Sainz - he’s had a successful few seasons in Formula One already, particularly last year where he’d raced surprisingly well in the sub-par McLaren car. It was what had won him his seat, replacing Sebastian Vettel in what had been a slightly shocking decision to Charles. He’s not the only one interested in what Sainz might be able to pull off in a Ferrari.

As soon as the car is built, they’re doing pit-stop practice until late into the evening. There isn’t a curfew for Thursday, so they take advantage of every moment of time available. Charles has been assigned to the left-rear corner, where he removes the old tire from the car when it pits. 

There’s definitely a learning curve, and the tires are heavier than most people think. He’ll need to step up his workout routine if he wants to keep up with the other mechanics. On top of the sore arms he’ll surely have tomorrow, his feet are killing him after hardly sitting down since disembarking the plane. 

At one point, he takes off his shoes and walks around in just his Ferrari-issued socks, the floor feeling blessedly cool on his aching feet. However, he soon has to put his shoes back on or risk injury, which is when he discovers that he should never take off his shoes again because putting them back on is its own hell.

When he gets to the hotel room that night, he hardly says a word to Alé, who is indeed his roommate, instead collapsing face-first onto the bed, still fully clothed. He doesn’t remember closing his eyes, and he’s not aware of anything until the alarm goes off the next morning. That, of course, is when the real fun begins.

2. When was the last time you cried? Yesterday! My therapist I see weekly has a talent for making me cry. I also just cry easy tbh. Funny story, how much I related to Gale told me I am Le Very Not Healed™ and got my ass back into it. Thanks Gale!👍

3. Do you have kids? No, and most likely never will.

4. What sports do you play/have you played? I am not a sports person...ever. The last athletic hobby was aerial arts which lasted a year. mostly aerial hoop(Lyra) and a few classes in static trapeze. I've also tried pole dance but I was too weak/my brain couldn't wrap my head around it. I'd love to do it again eventually but first I must get stronger💪 I lost all my muscles.

5. Do you use sarcasm? It's my 4th language.

6. What’s the first thing you notice about people? Whatever sticks out about them. Their aura? If they're attractive? Interesting fashion? It really depends.

7. What’s your eye colour? black/very dark brown.

8. Scary movies or happy endings? out of the two happy endings, I'm a wimp for scary movies.

9. Any talents? I am not really sure if I've got any innate talents? I've got stuff I'm good at but that all took work. From the work I put in to expand my palate/mind's eye to be a decent cook, to all the therapy I've done to become very aware of my emotions/self.

11. What are your hobbies? I'm ADHD af so I pick up and drop hobbies once they stop giving me enough dopamine. Most consistent throughout life that I've always come back to were cooking, trying out new food, gaming, and knitting. I'm also quite the sex/relationships nerd, not only in the horny way but also in the intellectual/philosophical way. It's why Gale's scenes tickled me so much on an intellectual level. It's weird sex and I love it!

12. Do you have any pets? Not yet! I really want a cat but I want to make sure I'm healthy enough to take care of it before adopting.🐈🐈🐈

14. Favourite subject in school? any of the humanities/arts I really enjoyed. Cinema studies, communications, psych, history, linguistics, ethnic studies, etc. Inject that shit straight into my veins. It made choosing a life path a nightmare. I was always jealous of those who always knew what job they wanted.

15. Dream job? I'm working towards becoming either a therapist or a radiology tech. I'll decide if either psych is truly my passion or not by the end of this year. If I can tough out this much school to a master degree/finish clinical hours end career goal it's doing mental health outreach for AAPI, and little bit of private practice. Otherwise rad tech is a short program, in demand, well-paid and you can end up with a 9-5 with enough luck.
