i (do not) regret to inform you that the heroine of persuasion very much IS hot, in fact she's easily in the top 3 of austen's hottest heroines (after marianne dashwood and possibly emma). it's just that years of depression and heartbreak eroded her looks by the start of the novel, but by the end, she's fully recovered and described as extremely pretty and "a delicate, elegant beauty" multiple times by many people include the omniscient/unbiased narrator. she gives me grace kelly vibes tbh

IF that were the case, why do we get this?

Aside from the fact that perhaps Persuasion adaptations are at fault for casting less attractive actresses to play Anne,

and also ignoring that Persuasion can be read as a commentary on the intrinsic ageist aspects of the late 18th/ early 19th century beauty ideal that favours the rosy, full look of youth (or, as beautytok might put it, the rosy look full of good collagen),

(as most of Austen's works emphasise the role of subjectivity when it comes to judging something as supposedly objective—according to some contemporaries—as beauty),

I would very much like to know why you'd say, anon, that Anne’s peak as a “very pretty girl” makes her “easily” more good-looking than Elizabeth Bennet, who is initially described (by Bingley) as “very pretty” (which Darcy himself acknowledges, though we tend to get hung up on the “not handsome enough”, even if that's precisely part of the insult, that only the most handsome is good enough for him).

I'm assuming that Marianne Dashwood leads the list, followed, presumably, by the “handsome” Emma, and I suppose Catherine Morland (“almost pretty”) brings up the rear? But how do you sort the rest and how do you back it up?

I'd love to hear your response. In the meantime, I'd like to give some love to the BEST Persuasion adaptation out there; the only one that did give us a hot Anne Elliot:
