I just watched The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent (2022)
It was a very funny, very silly, and oddly touching buddy film.
A definite mood lifter.
(Also, Michael Sheen’s daughter playing Nic Cage’s daughter is weird but good.) And Tiffany Haddish is superb in this.

One of Them Days (dir. Lawrence Lamont).
Starring Keke Palmer and SZA as mismatched best friends and roommates struggling to get by in Los Angeles, this is the kind of silly throwback buddy comedy starring vehicle that has been sorely missed. There's also the fun ticking clock element where the duo's characters desperately need to make that month's rent money by the end of the day or face eviction. Thanks to some sparkling chemistry between our two leads and a sparkling debut acting turn by the musician SZA, the comedy zips by with a fun charm to all the shenanigans. It's easy enough toforgive some of the hokier contrived elements in the name of more efficient storytelling.

A Real Pain (2024) review
Tumblr media
Someone should do a Cinema Sins count on how many times characters in this film specify that they are Jews.
Plot: Mismatched cousins David and Benji tour Poland to honour their grandmother. Their adventure becomes complicated as old tensions resurface while exploring their family history.
Me and my friend went to see this at a completely empty screening, and my mate kept asking why I picked to go see this, to which I responded “it’s an indie” and “it’s played well at festivals” and “awards contender”. Going forward I should not be relying on those facts as guarantees for a good movie experience, as A Real Pain was such a by-the-numbers film. I’m aware that this will ruffle some feathers, as this movie has been received well for the most part by audiences, however to me this was just two cousins going to Poland, going on a tour round the Holocaust locations, having a few domestic squabbles and then buggering off back home. Oh, and they also mention every 2 minutes that they are Jewish, just in case the audience kept forgetting. What we get essentially is a few adults conflicts and simple resolutions, but a film that as a whole has limited things to actually say.
Speaking of the Holocaust, I found its inclusion in this film a tad needless. The trip takes us through Poland where the Warsaw Jews put up fierce resistance, and where millions of them were murdered in the gas-chambers of the Camps; one of which is visited by the cousins. And this is heavy stuff, a heavy subject. It is like the introduction of a gun in a movie; it has to go off or be otherwise significant. But I truly cannot say what role the Holocaust plays here. Yes, of course the Jews suffered pain. And the film's title is A Real Pain. And Kieran Culkin’s character proves to be a 'real pain' for Eisenberg, And yes, pain is a relative thing; what is painful in one relationship might not be so in another. Yes, yes, and yes. Even so, 'The Holocaust angle', for me it didn't work. But it should have, yet whether it was due to the carefree and relaxed pace and feel of the movie, or the writing, but something did not click in place here for me.
There has been a lot of awards buzz surrounding Kieran Culkin’s performance, and though he was enjoyable to watch, I wouldn’t say his acting here was in any way outstanding of the best of the year. In fact aside from a couple of scenes where he sheds some tears for dramatic purposes, this is mainly Culkin being himself. At times it even felt like Culkin just walked on set by accident without reading the script and lingered about whilst entertaining the other cast members. Jesse Eisenberg was alright - harmless performance and manages to play up to the dramatic parts, but again didn’t really leave an impression. He’s also on writing and directing duty, with the latter fitting for an indie picture, but the script did feel lacklustre.
A Real Pain feels like much ado about nothing. The family drama between the cousins did not have the impact I believe they wanted, while The Holocaust element, though in itself a massive historical tragedy, seemed out of place in this movie. I do seem to be in the minority here but this movie did not click. By the way, Dirty Dancing’s Jennifer Grey appears in this - where the hell has she been all this time??
Overall score: 4/10

yes, good omens is definitely a buddy comedy, just like they said in that one article. and aziraphale’s relationship with crowley is definitely a bromance, like the actor of shax said. and obviously, that one part at the end was just crowley kissing the homie goodnight. obviously. yes. most definitely.

Jukebox Fic: This One's For the Girls
Based on If You Go Down (I'm Going Down, Too) - Kelsea Ballerini
A dark buddy comedy featuring Katara, Suki and Toph, when they accidentally kill a man trying to attack a girl in a dark alley, they have to work together to figure out how to get rid of his body, come up with a plausible alibi, and pay off a potential witness, all before a big ceremony honoring Aang. Zuko and Sokka find themselves unwittingly conscripted as accomplices, but once they find out why the guy is dead, they agree he had it coming.

Superfan's Short Movie Reviews: "Deadpool & Wolverine"
I wasn't sure if we'd ever get a movie like this from Marvel, but here we are. What we've got here is a gleefully anarchic joyride that fires on all cylinders. It's got surprising cameos (which of course I won't spoil), jokes made at the expense of both Fox and Disney, peak action sequences, and a good level of warmth at its core. Jackman's Wolverine helps to balance out the sillier antics of his co-star, though Reynold's Deadpool does get some emotional moments as well. I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that this was absolutely worth the wait.

Watching a video essay on Independence Day and he comments on how "ID4" sounds like it would be the fourth movie.
And I thought...
How cool would it be if you COULD make it the fourth movie?
Not sure what the third film would be, but you could have one be the Area 51 crash (small aliens invading, maybe a drama), another be Russell's kidnapping and escape/release (horror), and...something else.
