This morning, G-Dragon posted a picture to Instagram of what fans recognised to be 2ne1 member (and rumoured former girlfriend) Y/n holding his cat, Lye.

It seems he had intended to post it on his “secret” private account instead, as the post was promptly deleted— though not before netizens could capture screenshots.

Speculation about the couple began in 2015, supported by numerous sightings, matching accessories, and hints on their social medias.

Following 2ne1’s disbandment in 2016, break-up rumours started circulating during GD’s ‘M.O.T.T.E’ Tour in 2017. Fans noticed that Y/n had been absent from any concerts, as well as posts on GD’s socials alluding to being lonely.

However, fans began to hope for a potential reunion, after 2ne1 and GD both announced their 2024 comebacks from hiatus.

Speculation spread like wildfire at possible contact between the two— which was all but confirmed with (not so) subtle hints of each other in their posts.

Causes the caster to get a large, sudden surge of adrenaline. Their skin hardens in place of armor, as if it were an outer shell. Can still be pierced/hurt, but needs more force and aggression. Bruising is largely unaffected. Caster can choose to split the adrenaline boost between more than one target, but with larger blot accumulation. Any affected still go through the usual post-adrenaline exhaustion, dizziness, and other symptoms after the spell wears off.

In response to a new law in Scotland criminalizing hate speech meant to incite violence against certain protected classes including transgender and sexual minorities, JKR is basically telling the police "come at me bro" and literally asking to be arrested. Lowkey. (UNIVERSITY AU) Kyle Spencer x photography club student f!reader !! : not proofread a/n: long time no fic update. This has been in my drafts since November?? I don't even remember writing this, probably one of the fics I wrote when I'm bored. SUMMARY: You badly want to get noticed by your campus crush but you still want to be lowkey about your feelings for him. "I wanna find you in a crowd just to hide from you."

Ever since you found your very own university campus crush, you find yourself joining the crowds in every university events since this blonde frat boy named Kyle Spencer caught your attention during one of the events. He's always there with his fraternity bros. You thought that watching him from afar is enough for you but he's just so irresistible, you.. want him to notice you. 

You always had an interest in photography, but you only became motivated to join the university photography club just because you have a crush in the campus. Honestly, his smile is infectious, it would be super adorable to capture the moment of his cuteness. 

This was just a random thought that came into your mind while zoning out in class but it immediately became a plan. A perfect plan to keep your admiration for that blonde cutie lowkey. Hiding it all behind that camera lens.

Today, the university had another event. You find yourself standing in the crowd, holding your camera as you capture moments of other students having fun. You were already having fun but you couldn't help but search for the frat boys, you know Kyle would be there. You waited a few more minutes, entertaining yourself first by taking more pictures of the happenings in the event. 

"I heard that the photography club members are assigned to take candid photos of students enjoying the events." Said one of Kyle's friends. "Really? Let's get photographed!" Kyle replied to his friend with a chuckle, he looked around immediately trying to spot a photographer and he immediately spotted you who's taking pictures of the surroundings.

"I'll talk to her." Kyle spoke, he started to walk towards you without you knowing. As you lower your camera, checking the photos, you felt someone approaching you. You looked towards that direction and saw.. Kyle?? 

"Hi, you're a photography club member right?" He asked with a smile, looking at you up and down. You can't believe that this is happening to you. "Yeah.." You replied, your palms suddenly getting sweaty. "Cool! Can you photograph me and my friends?" He asked, signaling his friends to come closer.

"Yeah.." You ready your camera and started taking photos of them.

After that, Kyle walked to you again, wanting to see the pictures, you showed it to him with a shy smile. "Nice shots! This will be posted right? Where can we see it?" He asked again, looking back at you. "This will be posted in my Instagram page but you can also find it in the Photography club's Instagram page." You replied, trying to keep your composure. "Ooh, alright. I'll follow you. Take photos of us again soon, yeah? Thank you." With that, he gave you a pat on your shoulder and walked away. 

You can't believe what just happened, he complimented your skills, spoke to you, and told that he'll follow your page.

yeah umm working my way through my mental list of one shot illustrations I’d considered drawing while tied up working on other stuff. Grown-up Raz in full future God of Tartarus glory looking cool with grown-up Røki?!! HELLO YES SSS SSSSSSS??? And the very important Canon Convo snippet from when Raz first met him as a newborn, to compare💖✨ I was annoyed with myself back in November for not getting around to drawing that to add to this post but in retrospect then I couldn’t have done this matching set so it all worked out!! It’s a handy snapshot of the CURRENT day, where Raz is just 12 and his baby brother fits in his arms and is roughly the shape of a very large potato still.

I just know that Raz and Røki are going to grow up into an inseparable duo one day 🥹🥹

This has been just another excuse for me to learn how to actually draw Røkia, especially since I’ve been focusing on his current canon baby shape. It IS all getting easier with time💪 wowie imagine that! Also— grown up Raz is SO fun for me to draw and I hardly ever draw him though Current Canon Raz sure has popped up more than usual over the past year 🤩 VERY EXCITING! I love Raz and wish we were ever doing more with him in general but I guess only time will tell. Yaaayyyy

This post has been sitting in my draft for three weeks now. I’m sorry for the radio silence and thank you for your patience. I’ll include some of what I wrote previously below but a bit of an explanation, first. I think I’ve been suffering a bit of news whiplash. The news in general, and my own corner of it.

Trump’s re-election in November fell just as we, the journalists of the Guardian and Observer, were fighting to save what we felt was the soul of our news organisation, though sadly that wasn’t a recognised line item on any P&L report.

The fight was energising and instructive and clarifying on many levels, but the backwash from it has also been time-consuming and draining. I’ll fill you in on that another time. But I think I’ve finally felt, on the personal level, the “information collapse” that I’ve been thinking and talking a lot about recently.

It’s the term that I’ve been using to describe the tectonic shifts in our news and information system and the chaos of a world in which algorithmically driven social media on platforms owned by unaccountable monopolists has driven out fact-based reporting and news.

We’re dealing with a world in which truth and lies and conspiracy and science compete for eyeballs but not on a level playfield. The game is algorithmically rigged. Conspiracies are often more fun than facts. They drive more engagement and engagement makes more money, that actually is a fact. Meanwhile, journalism is expensive. Since Musk bought Twitter, it’s become impossible to ignore: endless content from MAGA accounts you don’t follow interlaced with crackbait viral videos.

But it’s one thing to write about information collapse, and another to live it. The Observer, or the hollowed-out shell of it, transfers to Tortoise on April 23rd and 100+ journalists have been terminated from the Guardian in various different guises. I’ve said before that in some ways, it doesn’t feel like a particularly surprising coincidence that this happened at the same moment that the tech bros merge with the US presidency. But on the other hand, it has been a lot to deal with.

And then, there’s the news. The only positive is that now that people are being kidnapped off the street by plain clothes ICE agents, the mainstream media has at least become bolder in naming what’s happening. You’ve probably seen stories about the Venezuelan deportees who’ve been shipped off to the megaprison in El Salvador including a Dallas bakery worker whose family claim he was identified as a gang member on the basis of an autism awareness tattoo.

Something about the story had snagged in my brain since I went down a rabbit hole of reading and watching videos on the prison and today, I realised why it’s bothered me so much. It’s not just that it is visibly a concentration camp, though it is. It resembles a set of vast battery chicken sheds for humans. The US deportees taken without any due process and with distressingly little chance of ever getting out are being placed in cells of more than 80 men crammed into tiered metal bunks. The whole place is a human rights violation but the authorities happily let in the cameras and show off the highly militarised guards and brutally choreographed admittance procedures.

What I’ve realised is that this is a concentration camp designed for social media. A point that was proved when the US Secretary for Homeland Security filmed herself in front of rows of silent prisoners and posted it on Twitter. I don’t quite know what this trend should be called. #fascistporn?

That’s a gold rolex, she’s wearing obviously.

The prison has been a key plank in the president of El Salvador’s strongman credentials and the alliance with Trump feels like a macabre new model for international relations.

A federal judge ordered the plane to turn around and return the deportees, and this was President Bukele’s response:

Bukele describes himself as a “philosopher king” in his Twitter profile and he’s a shitposter in the mould of Musk, retweeted by Musk, and now offering cutprice offshore rates for US’s first fascist outsourcing needs.

The prison episode, I’ve realised, isn’t just another bullet point in the breaking of the American Republic. And the US hasn’t just joined the axis of autocracy. This is a new an axis of edgelord strongmen who understand memetic warfare. And this feels like just the beginning.

Wood for trees

I hadn’t seen Bukele’s tweet until I read about it in this piece in the Guardian by Larry Tribe. He’s a Harvard professor and one of the leading constitutional scholars in America who has long been a clear and prescient voice about the risks that Trump poses to American democracy. He’s also someone who understands the role of technology in what we’re seeing happening. I got to know him a bit in the run-up to the 2020 US presidential election when he joined the Facebook Oversight Board.

The piece is a superb response to the dry and scholarly debate in the US about exactly what constitutes a “constitutional crisis” as opposed to some punchy executive orders that may be overturned etcetc. It explains some of the timidity of the press coverage to date and Larry helpfully scythes his way through the consitutional dithering:

But searching for evidence of a “constitutional crisis” in the rapidly escalating clashes of the executive branch with the judicial branch misses the larger cataclysm taking place across the US. This president, abetted by the supine acquiescence of the Republican Congress and licensed by a US supreme court partly of his own making, is not just temporarily deconstructing the institutions that comprise our democracy. He and his circle are making a bid to reshape the US altogether by systematically erasing and distorting the historical underpinnings of our 235-year-old experiment in self-government under law. What we are currently living through is nothing less than a reorganized forgetting of the building blocks of our republic and the history of our struggles, distorting what it means to be American. The body politic is being hollowed out by a rapidly metastasizing virus attacking the underpinnings of our entire constitutional system. Make no mistake. This is how dictatorship grows.

How to WhatsApp an (alleged) Russian spy

Now that Trump and Putin are buddies, Britain has become Russia’s number one enemy. That’s not supposition. Reuters has reported that the Russian foreign intelligence service had made a rare public announcement:

"London today, like on the eve of both World Wars of the last century, is acting as the main global 'warmonger. The time has come to expose them and send a clear message to 'perfidious Albion' and its elites: you will not succeed.”

What’s so striking about this is the language. It is a direct echo of the November 2017 speech that Theresa May made at the Lord Mayor’s banquet in which she called out Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its weaponisation of the information space:

“We know what you are doing and you will not succeed.”

It’s an incident - and how it fits into a wider pattern of call and response - that we discuss in episode 6 of Sergei & the Westminster Spy Ring, the investigative podcast I’ve done with fellow journalist, Peter Jukes, super-producer Ruth Abrahams and Sergei Cristo, a dogged Russian-born British citizen who’s been trying for a decade to reveal the Kremlin’s attempts to subvert British insitutions.

It’s been pretty uncanny timing to have been writing and recording the final episodes of the podcast as the entire Russia-US relationship has shifted on its axis. And after we recorded the final episode, we had one last thing to do: call the alleged Russian spy who kicked the entire story off.

It’s another Sergei: Sergei Nalobin, the former first political secretary at the Russian Embassy in London.

We’d been sitting on two telephone numbers for him that had been published on a Ukrainian NGO website. There was obviously no way that the telephone number would still be functioning, it had presumably been exposed in a hack or leak of data from inside Russia, but we’d been making allegations about Nalobin throughout the series and it’s journalistic protocol to put those to the person in question and give them a right of reply.

So we tried the numbers. Peter rang from his phone and, as we expected, neither worked. But then I had the idea of putting them into WhatsApp and seeing if any details came up. A woman’s photo appeared and without thinking I called the number. This is what happened next:

Those “fucks” are real. I really never expected the number to be working. And the shock when the woman passes the phone to the man is very real. “Is it Sergei?” I ask. “Слушаю vас,” he answers. “I’m listening to you.” You can hear the freeze in my voice as my ask my question and then Nalobin’s reply, “I cannot help you.”

Not in this clip is my mini freakout that followed immediately afterwards, though we’ve put in in the episode. Calling an alleged Russian spy on WhatsApp on my own phone felt both dumb and instructive. Dumb because, well…the risk calculus on all things Russia has changed. Although by far the burden of that risk falls on Sergei, as the former Russian national (he’s now a British citizen).

The episode also includes an interview with Rainer Saks, the former head of Estonian intelligence. In 2022, we learned that Nalobin had taken up a posting there and was again expelled after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Saks describes Nalobin as an exceptionally talented operative with “aggressive tradecraft”.

And that there was no doubt, he said, that I had been the target by Kremlin information operations. He described the “scientific” approach that they use to target journalists and especially female journalists who they psychologically profile and then attack.

If a target is really valuable, they put a huge team to work with this profile. If you have to protect yourself personally as well, if you don't have a team behind who helps you, at least a huge team, you are wasting your time just for this personal protection. You have much less time to deal with your job. It was doing before, and this is, unfortunately, it's quite a classical case you have experienced, I would say.

Estonia is a frontline state and hearing this from someone who deeply understands the the Kremlin’s information operations was weirdly emotional.

Tony Blair’s former spin doctor, Alastair Campbell, and now one of Britain’s most influential political pundits tweeted this a couple of weeks ago encapsulating where mainstream opinion has been on the issue for the last eight years. This is not to throw shade on Alastair who has been very supportive of my journalism. But I was moved to respond to his tweet because the idea of a “conspiracy” was what so much abuse directed at this story (and to anyone who’s reported on it) focussed on.

And, if Rainer Saks is right, was itself amplifed by the Kremlin. (I’m happy to report that Alastair took it in good spirit and discussed it on an episode of the Rest is Politics.)

But the Nalobin incident was also instructive because in the making of the podcast, we leaned into the John le Carré spy genre to try and bring this story to a mainstream audience. We wanted to make it sound like drama and to a large part we succeeded, through Ruth’s skilful production and sound design. But calling Nalobin and having him answer, a real person, not a dramatis personnae, felt like we’d somehow broken the fourth wall.

And in any case, it isn’t a spy drama, it’s actually horror. We’re numb to it and Trump and Musk are trying to make us number to it. Worse, to make us bored of the ongoing murder and slaughter of civilians and believe that Ukraine’s defeat is a certainty. The chill I felt on the phone to Nalobin is the chill of reality.

The episode also includes a conversation between, Sergei, me and Luke Harding, the Guardian journalist who broke the initial story with him and who is relentlessly cheerful by nature. And this was his reflection with Sergei that I thought I’d extract and end on here.

I think deep down, we both care about democracy, we both recognize that it's under threat and that this decade quite similar to the 1930s I don't know if you agree, Sergei, but we could debate whether it's 37, 38, 39 but it feels to me that it's really difficult times, and that in these difficult times, people of good faith and good cheer and good spirit should support each other, and I think that's what we do.

its time......................... to GET my pour on

(page 980-983 & SBAHJ 8)

^ I’ve been a lot more attuned to parallels between John and Jade since getting an ask about it a while back, and their identical victory dances are a very cute one. Check out these absolute goofballs. <3

First and most importantly, the eighth instalment of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff (/sbahj/8 in the Collection) was posted on around November 29. I just read it today, and it features either Sweet Bro or Hella Jeff trying to pour a glass of milk and struggling to tilt the carton enough, while the other watches through the window and then laughs at a squirrel’s giant acorn. The milk carton features a jpeg of a guy in a helmet who I can’t place, but who looks like something out of GameBro or Grand Snack Fuckyeah.

The squirrel has appeared before in SBAHJ #4, which was also the other strip to incorporate edited photographs, with a picture of Barack Obama. In many ways, #8 is a direct sequel to #4, as both feature the blue character looking through a window, and both feature the squirrel with some kind of treasure. It’s cool to see Dave growing as an artist by establishing these consistent character traits, but out of universe, #8 doesn’t appear to relate to anything happening in Homestuck at this time.

Back in Homestuck itself is the real Jade strife animation, set to the great track ‘An Unbreakable Union’. Bec, we learn, is a dog crackling with lightning and radioactive green energy, who constantly warps in and out of space (?). So the radioactive nutrients in the irradiated steak are probably good for him, and Jade is just caring for his needs the same way he cares for her - she seems very comfortable with his weirdness, which must be a daily occurrence for her.

Bec’s drawn in the same stark, eyeless outline style as John’s dad, Rose’s mom, and Dave’s bro. Due to his design, his being alive, his strife with Jade and his care for her afterwards, Bec seems to have filled the guardian role since Grandpa Harley’s death. This makes him the only guardian with an actual name. This could indicate that Jade has a genuine understanding of Bec, seeing him as he actually is, not as the idea of an authority figure.

The strife itself (p.980) is interactive, but linear. Each round has only one option, always beginning with AR (a nod to Jade’s rifle). We can click that option, and then gain access to Jade’s gun. Clicking on or close to Bec shoots a bullet, while clicking elsewhere does nothing. This happens four times, and on the fifth and final winning round, Jade controls the gun herself after we click the command. Unlike the sylladex escapade (p.808-812), this is a case of Jade and the player working in harmony.

But some pretty weird stuff happens to Bec during the fight.

ARRAIGN. Bec vaporizes this bullet and is unaffected.

ARSENALIZE. Bec turns into a green radioactive energy field. Both Jade and Bec become really small, jump onto the bullet, and ride it to the other side of the island.

ARTILLERATE. Bec becomes a galaxy; he and Jade apparently travel through deep space back into the Milky Way, onto Earth, and land on the frog statue.

ARMAMENTIFY. The screen turns black while a Bec-shaped silhouette of Jade’s island remains. Scenes from John, Rose, Dave and Jade’s stories flash by on the black space while Bec’s silhouette remains.

ARF. Jade shoots away from Bec, playing fetch, and grabs the blue package while he chases the bullet. Bec catches it in his mouth, runs back to Jade and drops it on the ground. She tosses him the irradiated steak. They both hug and celebrate.

Bec is a good boy but he also has far more extensive powers than Jade’s, which makes me wonder if he’s ‘from’ Skaia the same way WV and PM are from the ominous and luminous planets. A regular creature living on this island probably wouldn’t get this powerful. In fact, Bec might be the source of Jade’s powers �� if his body can turn into a portal and can cause visions of other characters, Jade could be prognosticating by looking through Bec. Jade definitely doesn’t have control over Bec’s powers, and I’m not sure Bec does either. However he came to it, he feels like a passive yet deadly nuclear power source that acts instinctively, with no intent beyond the dog desires of ‘play’ and ‘protect’. If Bec was an advanced intelligence he’d never fall for a ‘go fetch’.

Jade then falls asleep near the frog statue, and Bec picks her up and carries her to bed, tucking her in so gently. Good dog. Best friend. It is probably the most wholesome dynamic between any two characters in Homestuck, and it’s sweet to see Jade interact with her living pet so soon after Rose’s bittersweet reunion with her dead one. Andrew Hussie recently did a Q&A with MSPA community members which has some cool stuff in it. Here’s one excerpt:

The wild and unusual commands are the ones that really make it feel like a gaggle of whimsical readers is in charge, imbuing the narrative with a sense of freedom, a feeling that the hero could do truly anything. The essence of freedom in this sense is the uncompromising subjugation of restraint. It is possible that this is also the exact opposite of what a good story requires! [full interview here; emphasis mine]

Homestuck does have that whimsical, anything could happen feeling to it, but it does also have this really earnest core of themes that are common to a lot of stories – family relationships being one of the biggest. It’s unexpected that Jade’s pet is a dimension warping dog but beneath the outracing bullets and radioactive steaks is a relationship that’s no different to one in Marley & Me. So it’s interesting to know that there is a conscious effort to keep this story recognizable in some ways, even while it’s very experimental in others.

So now we’ve seen all four guardian strifes, and can lay out some quick comparisons! John (p.90), Rose (p.388) and Dave (p.836), all fighting humans, were overcoming an obstacle and facing hostility, while Jade (p.980), fighting a dog, was playing a game. John and Jade were trying to collect a package, John and Dave were trying to collect Sburb Beta discs, and Rose was trying to leave the house and reconnect to Sburb. John and Rose’s strifes contain the same music they played on their instruments – ‘Showtime’ and ‘Aggrieve’ – while Dave and Jade’s have brand new music tracks.

John, Rose and Jade all have interactive strifes, where A-command words can be selected in any order (John, Rose) or linearly (Jade) by the reader, before a non-interactive ending. Dave’s strife is not interactive, as his bro destroys the command menu. This suggests to me that while Jade is the most aware of the fourth wall out of the kids, Bro is most aware out of the guardians. But more generally, the differences keep the story fresh. It’s playing with patterns instead of working to formulas, being actively written instead of churned out like a sitcom episode. I think that contributes to it feeling like something to be a part of, not just something to passively read.

the princes of mischiefs are back for this HALLOWEEK, but have decided to forgo hosting HELL WEEK this year. some might celebrate, while others might be disappointed to go yet another year without the threat of surprise prank being pulled on its unsuspecting target (a.k.a you). or perhaps this false sense of security might be a trap that DBSD members are just waiting for you to fall into. who knows?

but, certainly, not everything is all right at the company, as stickers of WHITE BUNNIES WITH CLOCKS have appeared at various places within the company. furthermore, anywhere they are, PLAYING CARDS are hidden neaby. and while all the cards are QUEENS OF HEARTS, instead of the usual drawing of a queen at the center, each card has any of the following words written on it: 'EAT ME', 'DRINK ME', 'TAKE ME' or 'OPEN ME'. maybe you should pick on up? again; who knows...

LEGACY ENTERTAINMENT HALLOWEEN PARTY

on the week of OCTOBER 14, every trainee and artist of the company received an invitation to LEGACY ENTERTAINMENT’S YEARLY COSTUMED HALLOWEEN PARTY. since halloween falls on a thursday, the event will be hosted on NOVEMBER 2. unless stated otherwise in missions posts, everyone’s schedule will be cleared from 12PM to leave time for preparations.

the festivities will begin around 8pm and end at 3am. servers will be passing through the venue during the entire evening with finger foods and non-alcoholic drinks. a dj will be in charge of music, while a host will hold different events during the night ( examples include a dance contest, noraebang battle, and more ) and will crown the person with the best costume!

every year, legacy is known to host the biggest marketing event on that one day. brands compete ferociously to be the one that the company chooses! this year, it’s none other than NINTENDO that won the bid. since the press, lgc staff and higher ups and nintendo representatives will also be present at this event, trainees, actors, models, and idols alike are reminded to have fun but still keep it professional! additionally, on the day of the party, every attendee will be invited to walk the CHALLENGER APPROACH CARPET to enter the venue and join of the FACTIONS once inside!

the red carpet is slowly becoming a tradition of its own! NINTENDO decided to bring it back, but of course, with its own flavor! just like during the previous 2 years, professional photographers and 200 lucky legacy fans will get to see the trainees and artists arrivals in person! this time, each arrival will be marked by the famous horn blare of SUPER SMASH BROS' new challenger announcement.

while no challenge will need to be completed this year to gain access to the party proper, all attendees are REQUIRED to wear a costume from any NINTENDO FRANCHISE. with such restrictions, it is likely that characters might be picked more than once, as such, those who wish to costumize/put their own spin on a character are welcomed to do so ! princess peach in pink denim? why not !

( important note: only up to TWO people can arrive at the same time. pairs can be idols in the same permanent group; models and actors of the same gender; participants of a project that has happened/aired in the last 12 months (dramas, plays, lgs girls and lgc spring boys); and trainees of the same gender. )

FACTIONS

instead of the usual halloween decorations, this year, the venue will be full of colors, reflecting nintendo's image. in each corner of the venue, GAMING STATIONS have been set up for multiple people to play either solo, but preferably in groups. each corner has a set theme (and games); ANIMAL CROSSING, POKEMON, SUPER MARIO BROS and SUPER SMASH BROS.

while attendees are free to play at any of the stations (or none), everybody will be asked to pick one FACTION from the four franchises mentioned above before the end of the night !

( important note: up to TWO people can pair up for this activity, without gender or occupation restriction, however, make sure to keep it professional! it’s up to you if the two muses got assigned randomly or decided to do the task together ) REQUIREMENTS

CHALLENGER APPROACH CARPET: OPTION 1 make an edit of your muse’s halloween costume and aesthetics. OPTION 2 write a 200 word solo or headcanon about the costume picked by your muse, any alterations they have made and the reason they went for this costume. completing either option will grant you +4 POINTS TO DISTRIBUTE ANYWHERE and +6 NOTORIETY !

Illinois governor to Democrats: ‘Time to stop surrendering, when we need to fight’

“The reckoning,” Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker told a room full of revved up Democrats in New Hampshire on Sunday night, “is here.”

Appearing in the first presidential primary state ahead of what’s expected to be a major 2028 Democratic nomination cycle, Pritzker railed against the “Looney Toon Republican Congress” and included jabs at both President Donald Trump’s trade representative and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis — but his speech was mainly directed at his fellow Democratic leaders.

Too many of them have been wrong and out of touch about what the Democratic Party should stand for and about the threat Trump poses, Pritzker charged, calling for an end to “the culture of timidity” and for the “do-nothing” crowd to step aside.

“Fellow Democrats, for far too long we’ve been guilty of listening to a bunch of do-nothing political types who would tell us that America’s house is not on fire, even as the flames are licking their faces. Today, as the blaze reaches the rafters, the pundits and politicians – whose simpering timidity served as kindle for the arsonists – urge us now not to reach for a hose,” he said.

“Meanwhile, if we took care to listen to the voices of real people, we would hear our neighbors and friends standing on the street outside screaming for a response, one big enough for a five-alarmer.”

Pritzker called for attention not to the internecine political fights that have consumed many in the party non-stop since November, but to the stories of people who have been most affected by Trump’s moves, and who are making their own efforts to fight back.

The moment, he said, demands it.

“Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption. But I am now,” Pritzker said. “These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace. They must understand that we will fight their cruelty with every megaphone and microphone that we have. We must castigate them on the soap box … and then punish them at the ballot box.”

The cases of the people being removed to El Salvador, Pritzker said, are a perfect example of what he means, arguing that it shouldn’t be hard to stand up for the Constitution.

“Today, it’s an immigrant with a tattoo,” he warned. “Tomorrow, it’s a citizen with a Facebook post that annoys Trump.”

That mentality, Pritzker said, should run through everything from talking about autism care to tariffs.

“Time to stop apologizing when we were not wrong,” he said. “Time to stop surrendering, when we need to fight.”

Pritzker’s constant positioning of himself as leading the opposition to Trump in the second term has registered enough with New Hampshire Democrats that other speakers were applauding it even before he got to the microphone.

“You are standing up for all the people (Trump) has attacked,” former New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch said, as he introduced Pritzker.

“You’re showing Democrats how to stand up and how to fight,” said Rep. Chris Pappas, also from New Hampshire, who is running for the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, praising him for “cutting through the clutter.”

Pritzker made no presidential announcement — he’s still deciding on whether to run for a third term next year back in Illinois — but he took in many applause lines from the most engaged Democrats in a state that will be key to shaping the party’s nomination.

First, Pritzker said, there is the more immediate fight.

“We must abandon the culture of incrementalism that has led us to swallow their cruelty and their callousness,” Pritzker said, “with barely a cowardly croak.”
