       March 2, 2022 (New York, NY) — BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) is pleased to announce its return to Austin, TX for the 2022 SXSW Music Conference and Festival. Known for consistently presenting the best in new music, BMI has been a fixture at the festival for over 30 years and a valued source of music discovery. From March 15 -18, BMI has curated an exciting lineup of musical showcases, featuring rising talent from the genres of Latin, pop, rock, and hip-hop.

    This year, BMI will kick off its return to Austin with its signature Howdy Texas event. The exclusive day party will take place at the Saxon Pub, the location of the quarterly songwriter series presented by the performing rights organization (PRO). The event will feature 6 full band sets and 5 Austin-specific solo acoustic sets. The event will serve as a celebration of the third-year anniversary of the opening of the BMI Austin office. Performances will include Rhea Raj, KALI, Kydd Jones, THEBROSFRESH, Ben Burgess, Sun Room, Jackson Scribner, Gabe Lee, Chief Cleopatra, Jesse Daniel, and Susannah Joffe.       BMI Howdy Texas Presents: Ray Benson's 68th Birthday BasH Tuesday, March 12th | 7PM

The BMI Howdy Texas party is back and bigger than ever! BMI kicks off its weeklong schedule of SXSW events with the annual inaugural party, this time in conjunction with Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel. Hosted by Mr. Benson himself, the outdoor block party will feature performances by BMI singer/songwriters Katie Pruitt, Robert Ellis, Ray Benson and a handful of special surprise appearances. Previous guests include Willie Nelson, George Strait, The Avett Brothers and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The event will be held in the GSD&M Parking Lot (828 W 6th St) and sponsored by the Texas Music Office and Austin Music Movement.

In 2016, the big question was: Are social media platforms going to obtain music licenses and pay for music uploaded to their services?  In 2019, many platforms have now obtained the proper licenses to play and share music, but that was only the first step. Now, the question is: Where is the money going and how are the creators and artists getting paid? With multiple copyright owners, writers, labels and publishers involved, the answer isn’t simple. David Levin, Vice President of Digital Licensing at BMI, will discuss alongside Bob Bruderman, SVP, Global Digital Partnerships at Kobalt Music Publishing, with additional participants to be announced soon. The discussion will take place at the Austin Convention Center, room 11AB (500 E. Cesar Chavez St).

BMI Announces SXSW 2017 Line-Up Including a Headlining Performance from Ryan Adams

         (March 2, 2017—New York, NY)— Continuing a more than 30-year presence at the SXSW Music Festival in Austin, Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) is proud to announce a series of showcases highlighting songwriting’s best throughout the week, capped with a headlining performance by GRAMMY nominated singer-songwriter Ryan Adams at ACL Live at the Moody Theater on Friday, March 17th. 

        The BMI & SAG-AFTRA event will also feature Portland-based rock band Summer Cannibals, Los Angeles indie trio Cherry Glazerr, Austin singer-songwriter Emily Wolfe and Nashville garage-rocker Ron Gallo before Adams takes the stage for a two-hour set in support of his new album, Prisoner, which recently debuted at a career high #3 on the U.S. album chart. Doors are at 6:30PM with opening performances beginning at 7:45PM.
