Meghan Markle podcast -- Part Deux
"If you don't succeed, try, try again" is a familiar maxim for those who screwed up the first time.
The podcast network, Lemonada, is taking a chance on a second chance. The network just announced a new creative partnership with Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex. As part of their new deal, Lemonada will distribute the first season of the award-winning “Archetypes” for all audio platforms and also develop a new original podcast series as yet untitled hosted by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex.
In 2020, Spotify had announced a $20 million podcast deal with Markle. Although the podcast Markle produced and hosted, Archetypes, was generally well-received, Spotify abruptly canceled the deal last year when it discovered to its surprise that its "We will conquer the podcast universe by throwing money at it" strategy failed.
Archetypes has seen over 10 million downloads, averaging nearly a million listens per episode, and debuted as Spotify’s No.1 podcast in 47 countries around the world.
No word yet on guests, but Archetypes didn't have a problem attracting big-name guests, from Serena Williams to Mariah Carey.

Canada's Finest Podcast Newsletter -- Pod The North
I think it must suck a lot to be America's neighbor. Overlooked, misunderstood, and patronized, Canadians actually do have their own media universe.
We have Canada to thank for Rachel McAdams, Celine Dion, Michael J. Fox, Ryan Gosling, Ryan Reynolds, and many others. Can we return Elon Musk for a full refund?
And guess what, America? Canada is kicking our ass in all kinds of podcast engagement,
Did you know that 71% of Canadians have listened to at least one podcast at some point, and 29% of Canada’s monthly podcast listeners spend at least five hours per week listening to podcasts?
Revenue from podcast advertising is expected to reach $127.1 million in Canada in 2023, and brands have seen 89% higher brand awareness after advertising on podcasts. Even more impressive, 51% of bi-weekly podcast listeners have bought a product after hearing about it on a podcast.
And the future is bright for Canadian podcasters because 42% of Canadian monthly podcast listeners are aged 18 to 34 years old, so they'll be around listening for a long time.
If you're interested in podcasting in Canada, be sure to check out the Pod The North Substack newsletter by Kattie Laur.
Pod the North is a free, biweekly newsletter aimed at uplifting the Canadian podcast ecosystem and fostering community. In each issue, you’ll find ecosystem commentary (to keep you in the loop), podcast recommendations, opportunities for your podcast ($$$ and notoriety!), and digestible interviews with Canadian podcasters who you need to know about.
Kattie Laur is an Award-Winning Freelance Podcast Producer, Consultant, and Writer based in the Greater Toronto Area. Last October, Kattie hosted a live anniversary celebration of Pod the North in Toronto. I'm sure they'll be more live events to come.

Here's an example of a Pod The North story.
"In a press release that came out this morning, Canadaland has announced the launch of CanadaLabs,a hub for the next generation of audio journalists, open calls for short audio stories from across Canada, and applications to become Canadaland’s first Audio Journalism Fellows."

Guidelines for Augmented Reality in Ads just released
For many, I'm sure this announcement is filed in the "I don't give a s**t" category.
But we should care, because guidelines on the use of any new technology is critically important. Look what happened when we left social media to do whatever the f***k it wanted. We got Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, trolls, Nazis, Chinese bots, "Fakebook," the conspiracy theory of the day, and Donald Trump midnight rage messages.
So here's what is going on.
In collaboration, the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) and Media Rating Council (MRC) have released their Augmented Reality (AR) Measurement Guidelines to establish clear and consistent definitions and measurement guidelines for ads within Augmented Reality campaigns. The guidelines are open for public comment for a 30-day period until March 9th, 2024.
The IAB AR Measurement Guidelines Task Force, working with MRC, set forth guidelines for advertisers and marketers to quantify how much media is delivered and gauge how well their media achieved their business objectives within AR media campaigns.
“Brands are increasingly utilizing AR in their media campaigns to connect with consumers in more meaningful and immersive ways,” said Zoe Soon, VP, Experience Center, IAB. “The Augmented Reality advertising market is projected to generate $1.2 Billion in revenue in the U.S. this year. Thus, as an industry, we need to establish a greater consistency on how we define and measure AR advertising to foster fairness and transparency for buyers and sellers.”
To effectively capture the impact of AR campaigns, these guidelines set a framework to establish clear and consistent definitions for ad delivery, viewability, audience, engagement, and performance. The guidelines are inclusive of AR’s interactive and immersive formats, as AR can accrue non-physical interactions with products as well as the physical interactions related to browsing in the context of attribution.
Did you get all that? Good. Now, can you explain it to me.

Canadians are highly supportive of making Daylight Savings Time permanent.
November 24, 2020
There has been ongoing discussion across the country regarding the possible elimination of the bi-annual time changes that are observed in nearly all provinces, and results from our most recent survey show that there would be wide support for making such a change.
Across the country, the vast majority would support making Daylight Savings Time permanent, which would result in an elimination of time changes in the spring and fall, with time staying the same all year round.
One-half or more residents are completely supportive of the idea, while one-third mostly support such a concept.  The exception is in Newfoundland and Labrador, where just 38% completely support such a move.
There is very little opposition to such a change, with only 5% overall completely opposing the notion, and a further 10% mostly opposing the elimination of the bi-annual changes.
By age, complete support for the elimination of the changes increases as Canadians get older, with Boomers being the most highly supportive. Otherwise, results are consistent across demographics.
Results shown are from a survey conducted online November 11 – 13, 2020, with 1,231 Canadians 18 years of age or older from the Logit Group’s Canadian Omnibus. Fielding every month, the Logit Group’s COVID-19 Omnibus surveys Canadians to ask their opinions and behaviours related to topical issues. Results were analyzed by Narrative Research. Data was weighted based on the 2016 Census, by gender, age, and region to reflect these population characteristics in each province. As a non-probability sample (i.e., a panel sample where residents have joined a panel to share their opinions), and in accordance with CRIC Public Opinion Research Standards, a margin of error is not applied.

Comfort Before Style
Today I will be talking about my favorite clothing brand, Uniqlo.
Uniqlo  is a Japanese casual wear designer, manufacturer and retailer. The company has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. since November 2005. The company operates in Japan and several other countries.
Since March 1949, a Yamaguchi-based company, Ogori Shōji (which, until then, had been operating men's clothing shops called "Men's Shop OS") existed in Ube, Yamaguchi.
In May 1984, they opened a unisex casual wear store in Fukuro-machi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima under the name "Unique Clothing Warehouse". Initially, from the contraction of "unique clothing", the brand was going to register under "uni-clo". However, in 1988, during administration work between Hong Kong in relation to the brand, staff in charge of registration misread the "C" as "Q", and that is how the brand name was born. From then, Tadashi Yanai changed the store name to "uniqlo" across Japan. In September 1991, the name of the company was changed from "Ogori Shōji" to "Fast Retailing", and by April 1994, there were over 100 Uniqlo stores operating throughout Japan.
In 1997, Fast Retailing adopted a set of strategies from American retailer The Gap, known as "SPA" (for specialty-store/retailer of private-label apparel), meaning that they would produce their own clothing and sell it exclusively. They engaged the retail brand consultancy, CIA, Inc. / The Brand Architect Group, to guide the company through the realization of this strategy, including consulting on merchandise, visual merchandising and display, store design and a new logo designed by Richard Seireeni and Sy Chen of The Brand Architect Group's Los Angeles office. Uniqlo had begun outsourcing their clothing manufacturing to factories in China where labour was cheap, a well-established corporate practice. Japan was in the depths of a recession at the time, and the low-cost goods proved popular. Their advertising campaigns, clothing quality and new retail layouts also proved fruitful.
In November 1998, they opened their first urban Uniqlo store in Tokyo's trendy Harajuku district, and outlets soon spread to major cities throughout Japan. In 2001, sales turnover and gross profit reached a new peak, with over 500 retail stores in Japan. When Uniqlo decided to expand overseas, it separated Uniqlo from the parent company, and established Fast Retailing (Jiangsu) Apparel Co., Ltd. in China. In 2002 their first Chinese Uniqlo outlet was opened in Shanghai along with four overseas outlets in London, England.
2005 saw more overseas expansion, with stores opening in the United States (New York City), Hong Kong (Tsim Sha Tsui) and South Korea (Seoul), their South Korean expansion being part of a joint venture with Lotte. As of year-end 2005, in addition to its overseas holdings, Uniqlo had around 700 stores within Japan By 2006 sales were $4 billion. By April 2007, the company had set a global sales goal of $10 billion and a ranking among the top five global retailers, joining what at the time was Gap, H&M, Inditex, and Limited Brands.
Fast Retailing signed a design consulting contract for Uniqlo products with fashion designer Jil Sander in March 2009.] Shiatzy Chen has been approached by Uniqlo to produce a capsule collection of ready to wear pieces to launch in November 2010 while Asia's largest Uniqlo store outside Japan opened its doors in Kuala Lumpur in the same month.
In creating its clothing lines, Uniqlo embraces both shun and kino-bi. Shun [旬] means 'timing, best timing, but also at the same time it's a  trend,' something that's updated and just in time, neither early nor late.  The company offers clothing basics, but basics that are current, that respond  to what's going on today in art and design. Kino-bi [機能美] means function and beauty, joined together: the clothing is  presented in an organized, rational manner, and that very organization and  rationality creates an artistic pattern and rhythm. All these qualities  reflect the defining characteristics of modern Japanese culture, modern 'Japaneseness.'
— Nobuo Domae, CEO, Uniqlo  USA (April 2007)[1]

In May 2011, the magazine Shukan Bunshunpublished a story alleging that Uniqlo had forced employees at its stores and factories in China to work long hours for little pay. In response, Uniqlo unsuccessfully sued the weekly's publisher, Bungeishunjū, for ¥220 million for libel.
A 2015 online video of a couple having sex in a Beijing Uniqlo store changing room became notorious among Chinese internet users. Chinese police arrested at least five people in connection with the incident, allegedly including the couple and three other disseminators of the video, for having 'severely violated socialist core values'. The New York Times noted that the store's exterior had become a popular venue for people to gather and take pictures in poses reminiscent of the video.

As part of Fast Retailing's 2020 plan the company has stated that it plans to generate $10 billion in annual sales in the United States from 200 stores, which will lead to a location in every major U.S. city. This goal was stated when the company's only U.S. presence was its handful of stores in the New York City area, soon after the company began an aggressive expansion in the United States.
In October 2015, Uniqlo opened its first store in the Midwest with a flagship Chicago store on Michigan Avenue.

TWHP - 032 - Maggie Bergeron - Telehealth, Embodia, And Their Amazing Offering from The Physio Detective - My PT Ed on Vimeo.
In this episode, Antony talks with Maggie Bergeron, the co-founder of Embodia.
Antony and Maggie were messaging after having done the #PTTogether Episode 2 webinar earlier (available free on Embodia!). Anyway, Maggie mentioned she was up late because she had been busy doing support during this busy time with all the changes with COVID-19 and there had been some technical hiccups with their transition from Zoom for Business to Zoom for Healthcare…
…and so Antony, ever the questioner, had to ask why they were moving to Zoom for Healthcare since they are an education company!
Listen to the episode for the details but the bottom line is that subscription members of Embodia have access to unlimited free 40mins Zoom for Healthcare consults including bookings and sending home exercise program videos! And they are simply passing on the cost if you want longer than 40mins!
That’s unbelievably good value considering Zoom for healthcare for one person would cost at least 10 times that amount of money!
So please take advantage of the fact that you can contact Maggie and ask any questions you need to.
Please note that NO COMMISSIONS OR PAYMENT was received for this podcast. Antony thought it was a great initiative and wanted to share this with you all.
Maggie Bergeron is a registered physiotherapist who received her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from McMaster University in 2009 after completing her undergraduate studies at the University of Ottawa.
Maggie co-founded Embodia in 2014 to modernize the patient experience and to provide a simple, easy way to take continuing education courses to all physiotherapists and rehabilitation practitioners, regardless of their location, budget or area of practice.

Novel Subtypes in B Progenitor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
MedicalResearch.comInterview with:
Tumblr media
Zhaohui Gu, PhD Postdoctoral Research Associate  St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, TN MedicalResearch.com:  What is the background for this study?  What are the main findings? Response:B-progenitor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) is the most common pediatric malignancy and the leading cause of childhood cancer death. B-ALL includes multiple subtypes that are defined by distinct genetic alterations and that play an important role in diagnosis, prognosis and therapy of patients.  Advances in transcriptome sequencing (RNA-seq)have helped researchers discover additional subtypes and driver mutations inB-ALL and identify possible new therapeutic targets.  Still, up to 30% of B-ALL cases do not fit into established subtypes. These patients lack targeted therapeutic approaches and commonly relapse. Fort his study, we used integrated genomic analysis of 1,988 childhood and adult cases to revise the classification system of B-ALL. The system includes eight new subtypes and a total of 23 B-ALL subtypes. The subtypes are defined by chromosomal rearrangements, sequence mutations, or heterogeneous genomic alterations. Many show a marked variation in prevalence according to age. The newly identified subtypes included one (n=18) defined by rearrangements of gene BCL2, MYC and/or BCL6 anda distinctive gene expression profile (GEP). Patients in this subtype were mostly adults (n=16) with very poor outcomes. Another novel subtype was defined by IKZF1 N159Y missense mutation. N159Y is in the DNA-binding domain of IKZF1, and is known to disrupt IKZF1 function, with distinct nuclear mis-localization and induction of aberrant intercellular adhesion. There were eight cases in this subtype that shared highly similar GEPs. We also identified two subtypes with distinct GEP and characterized by PAX5 alterations. One, PAX5 altered (PAX5alt), included 148 cases. PAX5alt was characterized by diverse PAX5 alterations including rearrangements (n=57), sequence mutations (n=46) and/or focal intragenic amplifications (n=8). These PAX5 alterations were found in 73.6% of PAX5alt cases. The second distinct subtype comprised 44 cases, all with PAX5 P80R missense mutations. Bi-allelic PAX5 alterations were commonly seen in this subtype in the form of PAX5 P80R coupled with a second sequence mutation or deletion of the wild-type PAX5 allele. Adult PAX5 P80R cases showed better 5-year OS (61.9±13.4%) than those in PAX5alt subtype (42.1±10.2%). In addition, Pax5 P80R heterozygous and homozygous mice developed B lineage leukemia with a median latency of 166 and 87 days, respectively.  The heterozygous mice acquired alterations on the second allele, which faithfully recapitulated the condition of the patient leukemia. MedicalResearch.com: What should readers take away from your report? Response: Identification of subtypes accurately is very important for diagnosis, intensity-tailored therapy, and to identify targetable lesions. In this large scale genomic study, we demonstrated the power of using RNA-seq to classifying B-ALL and established a revised B-ALL taxonomy with 23 distinct subtypes. We identified 8 novel subtypes, including two defined by PAX5 alterations. Through in vitro and in vivo experiments, we demonstrated that PAX5 P80R could impair B cell differentiation and initiate leukemia. Together with the subtype defined by IKZF1 N159Y mutation, we showed for the first time that transcription factor missense mutations could be a subtype defining genetic lesions. MedicalResearch.com: What recommendations do you have for future research as a result of this work? Response:B-ALL classification has been conventionally used in scientific research and clinicaltreatment. However, due to the complexity of genetic alterations and geneexpression profile analysis, a comprehensive and robust classification is stillchallenging for many researchers and clinicians. This study establishes anRNA-seq data based B-ALL classification pipeline, which could assign over 90%of the B-ALL cases into distinct subtypes. The raw sequence data and well-curatedgenetic information of 1,988 B-ALL case have been deposited to public database(https://www.ebi.ac.uk/ega/). The dataare also accessible through an interactive St. Jude data portal (https://pecan.stjude.cloud/proteinpaint/study/PanALL),which serve as invaluable resource for future research and clinical diagnosis. We have identified eight new subtypes in previously uncategorized B-other cases. We described each subtypes’ gene expression signatures, driver genetic lesions and clinical outcomes, but in-depth functional studies and development of customized treatments for the novel subtypes are still needed. The genetic background of patients in each subtype is similar, making it easier to evaluate and compare patients’ response to specific treatments. That should potentially speed-up the development of more effective treatment for these previously uncategorized cases. Despite the progress, about 6% of the B-ALL cases still cannot be classified into any subtypes. We propose to perform more comprehensive genomic analysis, including whole genome sequence, to identify the hidden driver lesions. Ultimately, the goal is to classify all B-ALL patients into distinct subtypes and assign customized regimens for them. MedicalResearch.com: Is there anything else you would like to add? Response: This was an international effort and multiple institutional collaborative project. The participants were St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Children's Oncology Group, ECOG-ACRIN Cancer Research Group, Cancer and Leukemia Group B, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Toronto, Northern Italian Leukemia Group, Southwestern Oncology Group, Medical Research Council UK and City of Hope. Technology, Discounts, Customer Education to Drive Telematics Auto Insurance
Insurers are recognizing the importance of discounts to penetrate U.S. and Canadian markets. But this calls for the combination of product features.
Something seriously required in favor of the auto insurance policy holders in United States of America and Canada. UBI adoption is growing at a frenetic pace in North America according to the figures released by BI Research. Market watchers are keenly observing the growth of auto insurance and the factors that can pose challenges to auto insurance industry. Figures depict a rosy picture. Telematics based auto insurance growth rose from 4.1% in 2015 to 6% in 2016 in North America. The growth is pegged at 19.2% in 2019. What is the role of telematics expertise in expanding market reach? Can discounts increase the subscriber base? Is there any pitfall? Let us explore.
Insurers are constantly on the lookout for cost effective ways of doing business with telematics. But convincing policy holders seem to be their challenge. Yesterday's know how is passe with newer and sophisticated knowledge developing on ICT front. Data collection and customer engagement hold the key for success in the wired world today. Aspiring policy holders can be convinced by the insurers with cutting edge technologies like: Driving data capture, direct marketing channel, Roadside assistance (NSD Partner), Geo analytics and gamification to mention a few. The millennial and Gen Z are technophile demography for the telematics market.
Technical features are for risk mitigation and discounts are for cost reduction. If both factors are combined market penetration is easier. At this point an expert is taking a balanced view. Donald Light the director of Celent, a research and consulting firm, is of the opinion that a combination of both discounts and surcharges can provide a bright future for telematics in Canada. He was sharing his view during 'Insurance Telematics Canada 2016' in Toronto. We all know surcharges are additional premiums against risky driving behavior. And Light suggest this to change the driver perception on their driving.
What perception Light wants to change? People pay a price for a product or service on their perception on quality. The same theory is applicable to one's perception towards driving. If one thinks he is a 'better driver' and not an average driver which he actually is, then encouraging them to implement telematics mobile app to avail discounts will become a demanding task. Because his self esteem comes in the way of enhancing his driving behavior and accepting drive score as ultimate criteria for improving his driving. It is at this very stage only education is needed to change perceptions.
The very purpose of UBI is to reward the well behaving drivers on criteria like speed, acceleration, phone use etc. Vast part of the population are mobile and it makes sense for them to implement telematics mobile app on their mobile devices to mitigate accidents as well as earning drive score to avail policy premium discounts. Education is needed to change wrong perceptions of drivers to accept UBI as fair and to understand what standard driving behavior is.
Education should be extended on ensuring cyber security as telematics mobile apps are also prone to cyber attacks. This should be seen in the context where 60% of cars and trucks are going to be connected on net by 2017. This means tailored telematics services should address cyber security issue also to gain more acceptance in the market.
Switching to telematics is a good option; it is also promising for the insurance sector that wants to expand its reach. Cutting edge technical features, discounts for drive scorecards as well as surcharges for errant driving behavior can increase the acceptability of mobile telematics thereby attracting new mobile subscribers. If these issues are addressed, auto insurance market penetration will become easy.
Prime's telematics system, Xemplar, enables fast and efficient two-way communication between insurers and customers. Xemplar's mobile app-based system saves you money on hardware and infrastructure costs while also accommodating any mobile device or tablet; reaching drivers anytime, anywhere, and providing your business with critical information in real-time. CNIA – A Year in Review
CNIA – A Year in Review
The Canadian Nursing Informatics Association (CNIA) is focused on advancing nursing informatics in Canada through partnering with provincial/jurisdictional informatics organizations, nursing and health informaticians and health informatics organizations to ensure that Nursing Informatics informs clinical practice, education, research, administration and policy.
In 2016 we have been involved in the following:
Nursing Informatics Position Statement: Dr. Kathryn Hannah, Health Informatics Advisor to the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and Peggy White, President of the CNIA are the co-chairs for this work. A working group representing nurse informaticians from diverse settings from across Canada conducted a literature review and then developed a draft position statement. This statement was then circulated to nurses and other informaticians across Canada for input and feedback.  The Nursing Informatics Position Statement will be reviewed by the CNA and the CNIA boards in March 2017 and the final position statement will be posted on the CNA and the CNIA website in the spring of 2017.
2017 Nurse Survey: In partnership with Canada Health Infoway and the CNA, CNIA participated in the development of the 2017 National Nurse Survey on the Use of Digital Health Technologies in Practice. The link to the survey is in this Newsblast. Please complete the survey, as your input will help identify the impact of digital health on nurses, learn how we build the case for change, prioritize improvements and understand how digital health can make your job easier.
CNIA/ONIG 2017 Conference: CNIA and the Ontario Nursing Informatics Group (ONIG) have once again partnered on hosting a nursing informatics conference entitled: Informatics: Engaging, Enabling and Empowering Nurses in Digital Health. The conference will be held in Toronto on Saturday June 3, 2017 so mark this date in your calendar.  We are thrilled to have Dr. Judy Murphy, Chief Nursing Officer & Director-Global Business Services at IBM Healthcare as our keynote speaker.  We are just finalizing the agenda for this conference so watch our website for further details.
National Nursing Data Standards Symposium: CNIA was involved in the planning of the invitational symposium on National Nursing Data Standards that was held in April 2016 in Toronto. Sponsored by CNA, the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and Canada Health Infoway, with financial and planning support from CNIA and the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto, the symposium’s goal was to develop an action plan for moving forward on the collection and use of nursing data standards in Canada. More than 60 nurse leaders participated, representing most jurisdictions and health-care sectors across Canada, as well as selected national health-care organizations. Cerner, Orion Health, Becton Dickinson, Healthtech Consultants, Gevity, IBM and HInext Inc. also supported and participated in the two-day event. The proceedings from this symposium are available on our webpage at: http://ift.tt/2iy8mzZ Planning is underway for the 2017 Invitational Symposium.
Resolution to the CNA: Coming out of the 2016 Invitational Symposium, the CNIA submitted a resolution to the CNA advocating for the adoption of two standardized clinical reference terminologies, ICNP® and SNOMED-CT, and a standardized approach to nursing documentation in all clinical practice settings across Canada.  This resolution was approved at the November board meeting
International Medical Informatics Association – Nursing Informatics (IMIA-NI): Margie Kennedy, Chief Nursing Informatics Officer, Managing Partner, Clinical Informatics at Gevity Consulting Inc. is the IMIA-NI representative for Canada. CNIA News Blast: CNIA continues to publish a bi-monthly Newsblast about informatics initiatives, programs and happenings in Canada.  You can sign up to receive these by visiting our webpage.
In 2017 CNIA Executive Board is looking forward to continuing to explore partnerships and opportunities to advance nursing informatics initiatives in Canada.
Are you a CNIA member?
It is important to have a network of people who are undertaking similar work to connect with – CNIA provides this.  I believe that if we are truly to see the benefits of electronic health records for nurses, other clinicians and especially patients that we need to learn from each other about what is working and where improvement is needed. Both your jurisdictional informatics association and CNIA provide forums for you to connect with other nurse informaticians. CNIA is working to ensure that nursing informatics informs clinical practice, education, research, administration and policy. To do this we need strong representation from nurse informaticians in all sectors across Canada. Our membership year is from January 1 to December 31.
Consider joining and supporting nursing informatics in Canada.  To join CNIA visit  cnia.ca
