The sun was setting, and Renji couldn't help but worry slightly as he checked the time on his watch (what an invention! Humans never ceased to surprise him) and waited for Rukia to show up. He tried to lean nonchalantly against the side of the building, briefly crossing his arms to look cool and disinterested, but he became antsy after a minute, and rearranged himself to sit on the bench with his arms crossed. Still cool. Still nonchalant. He wore his leather jacket, some tight jeans he picked out with Matsumoto a day or two back, and a plain, white V neck underneath. Chad had given him a nice little shark tooth necklace, which he paired with the outfit just to garnish his goods a bit. He fiddled with it, trying to get it squarely in the center of his cleavage, when he heard the clearing of a throat. He looked up quickly, and his eyes almost bugged straight out of his skull. There Rukia stood, her hair pinned up in a casual and messy little updo, a small lily hair clip pinning it in place, with a few strands of hair curling behind her ears and escaping the constraints of the clip. She wore a dash of dark eye shadow and liner, and even a bit of lipstick, making her eyes look larger and more vibrant than ever and giving her lips a sharp, but enticing contrast to the soft curvature of her cheeks. She was wearing a black mini dress, with black tights and a small beige faux fur coat to keep in some warmth against the crisp autumn air. She wore heels, smaller heels, so the possibility of walking wasn't cut out, but they gave her more height than usual, and she looked like she could destroy him with them. "Like what you see?" Renji snapped out of his gawking, immediately cognizant of the fact that his face was brighter than the streetlamp beside him. He grinned at her, quickly regaining his composure. "I think you already know the answer." He stood up from his seat on the bench, looping his fingers through hers and giving a gentle squeeze. "Where did you wanna take me, anyway?" Rukia chuckled softly, cheeks tinged with a soft blush. She pulled him along the sidewalk, leading the way. "Well, I know your first encounter with coffee wasn't exactly the best, but I know your tastes, and I know a beverage that you could clear very quickly." He nodded, not quite concerned about much else other than getting a kiss from those sweet, painted lips. He knew she liked to brag, and he would spend all day listening to it. She was the only person he could say that for. They arrived at a local shop of some sort, and he finally ripped his eyes away from her to examine the area. It smelled fruity, and strange contraptions made grating sounds behind the counter as they stood in line. Interest piqued, he elbowed her lightly, and pointed to one of the machines. "What's that thing making the awful sound?" Rukia grinned ear to ear, putting her hands on her hips. "I'm glad you asked! Those are blenders, used to create these tameable beverages. They put ice and fruit and milk in them, and it chops and batters it all up until it becomes completely liquidated." Renji stared at the machine as it did just that with the customer in front of him's order. He was very glad that the Sereitei didn't have them, or they would be cooking up quite interesting ways to replace the Soukyoku. They ordered their drinks, watched them get beaten and battered and liquidified, and paid with some pocket money they borrowed from Ichigo. Well, they exchanged it, so he would have Soul Society spending money, and they could have some Living World money. They took their seats, Rukia taking a strange, oblong, cylindrical item from a wrapper and sticking it in her beverage. He raised an eyebrow as she passed him one, and she set down her drink. "Okay, so, the straw and I go way back. I learned about this one on my second day of human high school, and it still eludes me at times. It's a simple contraption to let you drink your beverage from a distance." Renji nodded, unwrapping his own straw and stuffing it in his drink. The smell wafted through his nostrils, and he just couldn't wait to taste it. He took a huge sip, and immediately regretted it, his brain overcome with a terrible panging sensation. He clutched his head, making a scrunched up face. "What the hell is in that thing!??" Why was Rukia making him drink something so painful? Rukia snorted, stifling a little bit of laughter. "And that would be another human phenomenon. That's called a brainfreeze."
Here are a couple of writing suggestions, in case any of these strike your fancy: (1) Rukia takes Renji on a date in the World of the Living (possibly to show off how much she knows about the WotL). (2) Rukia gets an extremely minor injury and Renji patches her up. (3) Rukia is wearing a pretty outfit and Renji loses his entire mind over it. Good luck with your writing practice!
I couldn't choose, so I'll do all three! I combined the first and the third for the last one though. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (Minor Injury drabble) Rukia sighed loudly, brows knitted together in irritation as her husband fussed over her, wrapping a big bandage around the small scrape just above her knee that she had recently earned, courtesy of an unfortunate run in with the side of the coffee table of their new shared home. "Renji. Babe." He ignored her, unwrapping the bandage quickly upon forgetting the antiseptic. He was in intense concentration, so much so, that he acted as if he hadn't even heard her. She rubbed her temples. While she could understand wanting to be careful and extra safe whilst carrying a child to term, this was getting incredibly exhausting. They were warriors; they risked their lives on the battlefields together, their lives were built on death, hunger, and hardship. And now, after they had almost lost their lives in the Quincy War, Renji was fussing over the most minor scrape she had ever had. It was sweet, but sort of also pissing her off. In fact, she wasn't even that far into her pregnancy, so he was being extra ridiculous. "Babe." He rubbed the antiseptic on her carefully, and looked up at her, finally hearing what she had to say. "Hmm?" His ministrations slowed down, his gentle touch moving away from the wound to grab at the bandage again. "We are soldiers... do you know how silly this is, over a single little scrape?" She couldn't stay too pissed at him, not with all the worry in his gaze, unfounded as it may be. "You're a little too paranoid." He shook his head, and continued securing the bandage. "I mean, yeah, I know we've been through nastier, but Hanatarou was pretty clear about watchin' your immune system while expecting. I ain't taking a chance." She let a slow breath out of her nostrils, rubbing her temples again. "I don't think he meant it like this." Renji finished with the bandage, securing it in place by tucking it in between her skin and the other layers. He sat next to her on the sofa, pulling her gently to the side, to carefully rest her between his legs and sit together lengthwise on the sofa, her head nestled under his chin and his arms wrapping snugly around her shoulders. He placed a kiss on the top of her head. "Rukia..... we're going to have a family again soon. Me, you, and this little tyke." His arm drifted down, resting on her stomach. "I know it seems kinda minor, but I don't want to mess this up. I'm not gonna take a chance on anything happening to you, and I sure as hell ain't gonna lose this kid from an infection from a scrape. I don't want a coffee table to take away my chance at a family." Rukia tried not to laugh, really, but he was still being a little ridiculous. "Whatever you say, babe." If he wanted to schmooze all over her, then she would let him schmooze. If it made him feel better about it, then she would deal with it. She sighed, placing her hand atop his. "After this kid's born, I'm not sitting around for this, though." He was too schmoopy for his own good.

Pretty Boy ch.1
“Come on, Girl.”
If you asked Ben Pincus-Masrani to describe himself, he would respond that he was thin, pale, not very extraordinary. Not even normal. Forgettable wallflower was he.
And he liked it that way.
He smiled down at his little corgi with her extra stubby tail.
Bad tail docking and a “defected ear” had made her less valuable to her owner, but more loveable to him. He remembered when his stepfather had told him about one of his business associates giving her away. Ben had cooed at her picture and the very next day, Simon had acquired her.
She was a year old now, her tail a little bump and left ear still folded halfway down. He knew it could pop up one day or stay folded over.
He’d love her as is.
She had been his constant companion since he had started University last year.
Bumpy wore little green and white booties and a matching vest for her leash, excitedly sniffing at whatever she found on the pavement of the city street they walked down. Ben smiled at her as she waved her whole back half, barking at a dandelion that broke through the sidewalk.
He thought yellow would be cute on her. It was quickly approaching autumn and he was due to buy her some more little jackets and boots.
Ben groaned as they passed an overfilled dumpster in a large open alley, the smell of spoiled milk making him gag. Bumpy led him away, as if sensing his discomfort.
He made his way to a one story building, Bumpy jumping up the steps one at a time to join him by the wood and glass door. He opened the door for her and she excitedly waddled in, sitting by the counter as an old Latino man with his grey and black hair in a ponytail came over.
“Hey, Santi.” Ben said.
“Morning, Benito.” He said with a smile. “Morning, Bumpy.”
Bumpy barked and stood, her hips waving back in forth excitedly.
Santi’s husband poked his head out, curly blond hair held back by a headband and his glasses a little smudged.
“Oh, Ben! You just missed Sammy.” He said.
“Billy Brennan-Gutierrez.” Santi scolded playfully. “Sammy said he changed his shift. Twice, remember?”
“Right!” He said. “Sorry, Honey. Must’ve been distracted by that new exhibit Alan promised to invite us to.”
Santi rolled his eyes good naturedly and smiled at Ben. “This man.”
“It’s fine. Dad was getting ready to fly over to New York for some party, so I was video chatting with him and totally forgot to text her on the bus.”
“Bus?” Billy asked, walking to the counter. “How did you like it?”
“I took the green line.” Ben said. “More…clean.”
“Ah. The public access line your father is funding?” Santi said. “It’s been an amazing help around the community. City planning is really a gift.”
“Yeah. Dad cares more about customer satisfaction. He even asked if the animals at the zoo were happy.” Ben said as Billy laughed. “And right now I know he’s gonna charm new investors.”
“I get it. It’s always go, go, go.” Santi said. “Billy and I will take care of your pretty girl. Go on to work.”
Ben kneeled and kissed his dog on her forehead. She wigged and liked his cheek.
“Bye, Bumpy. I’ll come get you later, okay?” He said and gave her leash to Santi.
He waved as he walked out and set out to a nearby bus stop with a green leaf, taking a breath as he looked at a message from his parents saying they arrived safely, his mother resting in the hotel room and his father already in a meeting.
“You got this, Dad.” He text back.

Brew-tiful Roast was the only refurbished building not owned by the college but funded independently by several of the first alumni and John Hammond himself. It was a brick and glass building with a brick and iron barred wall around it, where a garden area and several outdoor tables with wooden benches under a thick iron and heavy waterproof tarp Professor Carr of the physics department had donated almost a decade ago. Several other alumni donated money to modernize the area for student comfort and relaxation when the library and cafeteria were too much stimulation.
The inside was open with many well spaced tables, cushioned booths and a back wall lined with tinted muffled noise square privacy pods in the back. Many plants and flowers decorated tables, soft slow blinking white and blue LED lights showing where charging stations were and orb shaped hanging lamps that lit the café up.
Finally was a large refrigerated black glass top counter and display where many sandwiches, pastries, packs of baked chips and crackers, packaged fruit and several salads were displayed along with bottled lemonade, teas, sodas and waters that were always sold at a quarter. They could be taken to the counter and warmed after they were bought or warmed in one of the three communal microwaves.
“One banana avocado smoothie with fiber and whey!” Sammy called, smiling as she handed back change.
Ben’s finger and hands flew over the ingredients as he chopped, scooped and mixed the fruit before throwing it into a clean blender with ice and cold cream, and letting it run. Mixing it a final time, he poured the cold thick mixture in large cup with a star drawn on by Sammy. He put it on the counter where a young Latina woman with large glasses waited.
“No whip, just how you like.” He said with a smile.
“Thanks Benji.” She said with a wink.
Her best friend, Franklyn smiled nervously from next to her.
“What brings you to the front?” He asked as Zia sipped her smoothie with a pleased hum. “I thought you didn’t like being up here where there are so many—too many in fact, people.”
“Professor Malcom said it’d be best for me to get a few months exposed to more people.” He said and mixed caramel into Franklyn’s sugar free French vanilla ice coffee. “So I got low traffic shifts after morning classes.”
“How’s going clean treating you?” Zia asked, eyes softening on her younger classmate.
“Ah…” He looked to the side. “Got a bit of a no sleeping issue some nights, but hey. More time to think up new smoothies and teas.”
“You are aware this is Brew-Tiful Roast.” Zia asked with a smile. “As in, coffee?”
“Good thing Mr. Van Owen and Gray love it. Plus,” He smiled and put a hand to his hip in pride. “Yours truly has helped increase sells with my smoothies and tea mixes.”
“Way to go, Plant Nerd.” Zia said and slipped a five in his pocket. “For Bumpy. Get her some of those yummy carob biscuits.”
Ben handed Franklyn his cup. “Thanks. But you know I’m fine for money. With Dad and everything, honestly, this is just so I...”
Franklyn nodded. “We get it, Ben. Normalcy is…admirable.”
“Besides. I get to use my earnings to get my own place. With my own money.” He said excitedly.
Franklyn’s watch beeped. “Oh, shoot! I got to get to my Mathematical Theory class. Professor Murphy invited Ian Malcom today!”
“Get me an autograph?”
“He’s got five of the same damn book in his bag. We’ll get ya one, Benji.” Zia said with a sigh. “If you need anything—”
“I’m okay, Zia.” Ben said. “But thanks.”
She smiled as Franklyn sped out with a wave.
“Man, seems like forever since she took you under her wing.” Sammy said as the line slowed, leaving only a few people at tables typing away at laptops or talking among themselves.
“Yeah. Both Malcoms at Hammond University. Bet you he’ll crash Professor Malcom’s class.”
“He’s a Dad.” Sammy giggled as she wiped down the counter. “He kinda has an obligation to check in.”
As if on cue, her phone vibrated and she smiled at a picture of Bumpy sleeping on her back, showing it to Ben.
“Aw~” He cooed. “Send it?”
“Already done.” She giggled.
The door chimed and Sammy smiled at the newcomers before her face fell.
“Hi Darius. Kenji.” She said.
“Hey, Sammy. Got anything good today?” Darius, a paleo-researcher and Sammy’s classmate in zoological studies said.
“I got donuts.” She said. “And chicken pesto sandwiches.”
“I’ll take two of each.” Darius said as his taller Asian friend sauntered over to Ben.
“Huh, never seen you around here, Pretty Boy.” He said.
Ben looked up and froze.
Tall, tan, muscular and very, oh so very handsome.
Ben could feel his cheeks heating. “Um, what?”
Sammy’s hands came on his shoulders and pulled him a bit away from Kenji.
“Ben here usually works in the back.”
“That’s a shame. I guess you’re why this place is called Brew-tiful.” He said with a wink.
“Ben.” Sammy said. “Can you do me a favor and get more cups before the lunch rush?”
“Oh.” Ben said, snapping out of his trance. “Sure.”

As soon as Ben went through the kitchen door, Sammy slammed a hand down on the counter.
“No.” She said sternly.
“What?” Kenji asked.
“Brooklynn told me what happened with your last three girlfriends and boyfriend. All in a week!” She hissed.
“What?” Kenji asked. “There wasn’t a connection.”
“Here’s a connection. Don’t just date people cause their cute!” Sammy said.
Darius looked between the two.
“Kenji. Come on, Man. Ben looks…fragile.” He said.
“He works in a coffee shop, Darius. You gotta be pretty tough to work in food service.”
“Kenji.” Sammy said. “Not Ben.”
Before Kenji could respond, his phone rang. He looked at his phone and sighed.
“I’ll be back another time.” He said. “Looks like Dad needs to see me in person.”
“I’ll get back okay.” Darius said. “You go ahead.”
Kenji took the bag Sammy held out, slipping a $20 on the counter.
“Tell Ben I said bye.”
“No.” Sammy said with a deadpanned expression.
Kenji saw Ben look through the door of the kitchen window. He smirked and winked at him, enjoying how Ben ducked his head and reddened.
Kenji left and got into his car, sitting for a moment to watch Ben come out and shake hands with Darius.
“Damn. He really is pretty.” He said as he started the engine, big pine green eyes haunting his thoughts as he drove home.

If you are considering a healthy all-natural diet and not sure of how to make the transition - consider trying green smoothies for starters. Seon Adventures Episode 15: Dicks and Danger
Following the dramatic conclusion of the Ogre confrontation and the moment of respite under the white willow tree, our party is now back on their feet, all but Burk well rested. As Luctan checks on everyone, he is somewhat worried for Burk, who had spent the entire evening awake and alert, now quite exhausted from this venture.
Checking with the little elf child, Luctan feeds him and, after what a good five to ten minutes of baby jokes (the best kind, really), the party take off on their way to Crystalgate.
By the point, where it would be 2pm-ish is when they reach said town, which, much to some surprised, is a place governed mainly by changelings. The most noticeable is that it just really springs out of nowhere, there’s not a forested area, little bit of trees every now and then. )So, basically, mostly fantasy California town.)
By when they reach the town, Belli even tries to make a baby carrier for Luctan, so he can have a hands free experience, carrying the little one onward. But that doesn’t go perfectly, seeing as they had been in motion during the trip. (But half a sling is still better than none! I believe in you, Belli!)
There are baby shenanigans along the way, trying to feed the crying baby, trying to change his diapers.
What the party immediatelly notice is that the town is mostly made of stone and brick and for every 4-5 buildings, there are tents. From what they learn, given the territory, the folk here work their trade with fishing and the occasional smithing work. It’s where Luctan sells the Ogre clubs, at that, to a beefy looking changeling woman, to whom he shows respect. (Also, fun fact, smithing in Seon is a lot more magical! Local blacksmith use magic rocks and wheels. It’s how Ricardo, the elven blacksmith in the town/village Luctan recuperated in back in the day made the Evenchord sword).
With Luctan in his human form, he doesn’t really understand why the locals are weary of him, seeing as he’s not really aware of the discrimination the people had suffered from mankind over the years, what with changelings’ inate ability to shapeshift into other ‘noid races.
He learns of this, though, thanks to a conversation with an elderly changeling woman, whom he impresses with his politeness, kindness and udnerstanding. He hopes for a time, where they can walk around and not get second glances and suspicion from those, priviledged.
Luctan kisses the woman’s hand, which looks odd to the party, seeing as she had transformed herself into him to express physically what the “problem” was. But Luctan is cool with it. He chill. And carrying a baby, so there’s that.
(At some point, out of character we break down into a discussion on selling the baby, what the going rate would be and the like. The jokes were a plenty, but this gem from the DM will always stick with me: “People, who buy babies aren’t usually good people.” – Lauren, the DM)
At some point, Amelia goes on a walk. Then hears a sound of a tubby orange cat. She looks to the cat. “I would take a 1,000 arrows for you.” (she says in the best voice ever. We stan a legend). The cat nuzzles her and Amelia immediatelly takes the tomcat with her. A soft boi, she dubs “Archie”. ( Amelia is keeping the cat and if anyone has a problem with that, she’s gonna kill ‘em all. )
By the time she comes back to the carriage, after supplies and baby feeding is done, the cat is resting over her shoulders and Belli tries/fails to draw a dick on the back of Luctan’s jacket. (Luctan will remember this. Luctan makes an owl head turn.) And she also rpeats the funny with Mournimar. ( “What the hell is passive perception?!”we joke ooc-ic, when Mournimar, for some reason mentions that in-universe)
One very extatic Belli gives Amelia a ribbon to collar the kitty. And then she tries to pull on Mournimar’s tail, which immediatelly gives Luctan ye ole’ shell shock as he gets back behind the reigns of the carriage, alongside Burk.
As the party carry on, the red tiefling bonds withthe green goblin over their vengeance paths. Luctan apologizes to Burk for taking his kill from him, by asking Ficus to remove the tiefling. Burk is fine, either way, asl ong as the guy’s dead. As recompence, Luctan offers Burk a pick from any of the remaining three, aside of Landis. Landis was his to deal with. And Burk is fine with this.
On their way out of Pollum, on the first day on the Winding Path, they find a separation at the river. Based on the rainy temperature, this close to the ocean, the water’s more hydrated, so the roots are darker. There’s a lot more shade in the area.
As they make their way on the path, Perception check time.
With Mournimar’s 20, they immediatelly notice “it”. A very large clump of roots on the way. Part of it seems to twitch. Resolute, the Tiefling Ranger makes his way to inspect.
It is the big mistake that almost costs him his life, however.
Because as he gets close enough, a root tries to grapple Mournimar, Mournimar manages to dodge as a bizzare looking skull comes out from between the darkened roots and looks him in the eye. With the ferocity of a graboid, by way of a messed up tentacle nightmare, the skulled creature screeches a large and mighty screech.
The tree is actually a tree monster. And it wants those tasty tiefling meats.
And this? This signifies the start of the fight. First in line is Mournimar (Both tieflings rolled a 20, but Mournimar’s passive skills are much higher, so it’s his turn first)!
Retaliating for the damage he took from the whipping vines, Mournimar immediatelly discharges his hellish rebuke and unsheathes his blades, striking wild and true, chopping at the creature. One strike, after the other!
No mercy with those sword strikes, as Mournimar occupies the attention of this hellbeast, while Luctan places the baby in the back of the carriage and charges forward, taking his full 30ft of movement, before aiming and discharging a couple of shots with his crossbow (DAVID CROSSBOWIE!!!)
He can tell, from some of the reading he had done. This thing is not Abyssal, like the Kenku. It’s a local realm monster. It’s nothing like he’s seen from the books, but judging by his knowledge, it doesn’t see, but feel movement.
He calls for Mournimar to get out of the thing’s range, believing his archery skills will do him better against it.
As Mournimar gets warned by Luck, he backs away, only to be caught by the thing. He feels his body pulled back and grappled. Necrotic power drains some of his essense as he gets flailed around like a ragdoll, screaming in horror. . The thing looks as it almost gains back some of the damage it took. It tries to squeeze Mournimar like a slim jim, basically.
All the while, using it’s other vines, the beast tries to strike at Luctan, but the fighter dexterously dodges out of the way, only taking whipping attacks, as opposed to getting full blown caught by the beast.
Enraged, Luctan’s eyes glow as he makes a cutting motion across his throat and casts Hellish Rebuke. Though it does cause certain pain to the beast, it still retaliates, striking the fighter again and again, bludgeoning him, while he keeps his posture. If not for his armor, Luctan thinks at this point that he’d be far more bruised than what he’d be by the end.
Mournimar then gets slammed against the ground and is stunned until the creature’s next turn. As the action continues, Ficus and Morgan hear shuffling and alert the rest to the cliff on the right of their path. Soemthing’s coming. What that is, they’re not certain ,though.
Morgan, being the good dire wolf he is, takes the elf baby and moves a fair distance away from the carriage, alongside Rimefang and Archie, as their moms and dads go fo deal with this disaster.
Ficus makes a move, north west from Luck, where he gets his Dash action on to get to a point, attempting to throw some daggers at it, at a disadvantage. The dagger, the first one, misses, but the second one certainly hits as he sneakily strikes the creature, compensating for the initial failure...
Worried for her adoptive brother, - Belli gets close to danger and tries to cast sleep on the creature. Sadly, the thing is not yet close to a low enough damage and just shakes off the drowsiness.
A desperate Belli winds up giving Mournimar inspiration with the help of All-Star.
The blue fist’s turn, next, Amelia makes a dash and throws two darts at the creature, while maneuvering between it and the cliffside. Given the noise, she can definitely tell that anothero ne of these things is fast approaching.
Burk rages and charges the tentacles, throwing a javelin at the creature. With a small person fury, the creature gets struck. With the power of another javelin, he hits the fucker again.
With Mournimar unmoving, he gets lifted around and waved by the creature. Mournimar screams for help as Luctan charges in with shortswords East Ender and West Wounder.
Determined to rescue his taller friend, Luctan reverse grips the blades and leaps at the monster. Slash, slash, slash, slash! There is no mercy at the hand of the crimson fighter as he slices up the monster in a flurry. The closer he gets, the more he resembles a sentient blender, spinning the swords like a dual blade (or a light saber staff. Or Agni and Rudra from Devil May Cry 3), until he gets to the beast’s head.
In a swift motion, Luctan goes 3 for 3 and decapitates the monster, he would later learn was referred to as a Flurry.
Once the monster appears dead, Luctan wastes no time and carries Mournimar back to the carriage. And just in time as the second one climbs over and proceeds to contine from where it’s compatriot had begun.
Not noticing Amelia, however, it walks around her, allowing itself to be struck by the Air Genasi Monk .For that, the monster tries to catch her. Realizing the threat, it It grapples Amelia and she fails to save herself as she suffers the same kind of damage as Mournimar had before her.
Seeing Burk as close by, it reaches and takes him in it’s grip as well, immobilising the raging barbarian. With it’s last attack, it attempts to catch the source of it’s companion’s death, but Luctan moves just far back enough to only feel the whipping strike of the Flurry.
Frustrated, the monster screeches and a terrified Ficus goes to grab and yeet his daggers. Though, because he’s in range, he almost gets caught. The first time. He then gets hit and minimal damage to the helpful boy.
A desperate Belli tries to use Shatter on the thing, wanting to rescue her family and friends. With It takes 7 damage at the noise of “Baby Baby Baby”.
The tieflings try to convince Belli to step back. But she refuses to get out of the way. But she refuses to give ground. From where she is, all she can do is just give inspiration to Burk as Amelia’s attempts to fight in this grappled state.
Pulling her darts out, she flings them, one after the other, missing and hitting respectively, at the back of the thing’s roots, only causing it further anger.
Raging, still, Burk brings out the pain axes and starts going Lumberjack on the Flurry! Strike after strike, after strike, after strike, Burk smashes the thing with the axe, bringing a hell of a lot of damage and by the end, with addition of the armor, Burk deals 33 damage. Though injured, this pisses the monster off all the more.
Amelia manages to free herself, thanks to Burk’s distraction, but this all the more inconveniences the green ball of rage, as the attention on him keeps him from suceeding as well.
Leaping out of the carriage, Mournimar makes some distance, sheathing his blades and pulling out Savon’s Bow. The bow, gifted to him by the centaur of the same name.
Thanking Luctan, Mournimar aims and fires arrow, after arrow, sending them flying true into the tangly body of the horror show the party was having to deal with right now.
On Luctan’s turn, he starts chopping like a madman. Several brutal strikes with both East Ender and West Wounder, missing only twice
The angry creature attacks with, appropriately, a flurry of tentacle attacks.
Amelia gets smashed, Burk gets grounded, Luctan gets whipped, but not grappled and poor Ficus gets captured and critically knocked around by the beast’s powers.
Limp, in it’s grasp, Ficus goes unconscious and steps close to death’s door.
Belli refuses to let her older brother, her last remaining blood family, die!
With the power of her healing words, she brings him back to consciousness and, now very muc pissed off by the abomination’s horrific actions so far, she mocks it. Viciously. With all the force that the Vicious Mockery entails as the creature just. Looks legitimately downtrodden by her commentary and releases her from it’s grip.
With her free, Luck begs her to move back to safety as Amelia can, but only throw her darts again and again. The impact causes a crack to appear at the back of the beast’s skull, forcing it to shriek wildly and madly.
It flails, both Amelia and Burk, forcing the monk into an unconscious state and Burk to suffer all the damage he can, due to his gripped and stunned self.
In retaliation, Mournimar fires the bow again and connects with one of two arrows.
And it is then that Luctan brings the end to the battle.
East Ender and Westwounder in hand, he starts jumping up the thing’s tentacle limbs, cutting, slashing and chopping as he closes in on the monster’s head. And much like it’s twin, he removes said head after a spinning slash attack.
The monster falls in a gore of it’s blood and vines, while Luctan lands. He wastes no time and runs over to Amelia, who, along with Ficus, have suffered strange black scarring from the monster’s attacks.
Luctan pulls out his Greater Restoration potion and feeds it to the blue monk, bringing her back to consciousness, before taking her back to the carriage.
Eveyrone comes together at their vehicle and the party proceeds to make mild recuperations as they try to get their bearings, over what had just happened.
Arguments go around between Mournimar, Belli and Ficus over who should drink potions, with the boys much more wanting her to have herself a drink. All the while this happens, a vengeful Rimefang flies over to the remains of the second Flurry and gives it a good slapping with his tail as payback for all the hurt it had put on his green papa.
While Belli brings out Orion as a comfort animal for herself and Amelia, alongside Archie’s presence, Luctan makes sure to calm the elf baby with funny faces and voices, seeing as this had been the second time the little one had to deal with terrifying noises and the sounds of violence.
He manages to calm him down, before handing him over to Amelia.
Tired, but determined, he goes to inspect the monsters for any possible loot or identification. He eventually returns, having collected Amelia’s darts and Burk’s javelins, handing them to their respective owners, before he brings out the amulet he had found on one of the things.
Possibly from a previous meal, they identify the amulet as belonging to a follower of Keemis, the goddess of Birth and Death. A snake, eating it’s own tail, the cycle of life.
Luctan decides to keep the pendant for now, until further prodding, as they collectively agree to just. Get the fuck out of here.
He takes the baby and the reigns, accepting the thanks from his friends. Though they were not necessary. It was the right thing to do, of course. Dive in head first and chop like a mad hatchetman at these monsters, all to free his fellows.
With four heads now occupying the Bag of Colding, Luctan decides to ask the next town over about a follower of Keemis going missing or something along those lines. Maybe get some feedback on the monsters themselves and if there is something they need to worry about, regarding Amelia and Ficus’ injuries.
It takes a while, but at some point, along the way, they reach a hill, servicable for camping. Tired, bruised and beaten up, but victorious, they settle down for the evening, with a fire and food, deciding on the turns of watch service.
Luctan and Amelia go first and, while everyone gets situated and napping, Amelia approaches Luctan.
Amelia thanks Luck for what he did during the fight. He just says she’d do the same. During their conversation, Luctan admits that he doesn’t follow any of the gods. Legal or Illegal. He doesn’t appreciate their inactivity and allowing things to happen as they do. He muses on how they became gods and on the future he wants to bring to the little one. Amelia agrees that there needs to be justice for him and that they will do the best they can.
He thinks of the amulet he has, considering to give it to Amelia. But decides to hold onto it for now. Seeing as he speant his for on her, Amelia hands Luctan a Normal healing potion (2d4+2).
As their watch ends, Luctan brngs Mournimar up and awake to have a go at night watch.
With the two sleeping, Mournimar has a conversation, bonding with Ficus. They discuss today’s battle and the pain they had experienced. Mournimar is at least glad that he will know how to fight them from this point onward.
Nodding, Ficus thanks Mournimar for protecting Belli and gives him a thumbs up, awkwardly. Honestly, Mourni would give his entire life for Belli, ok?! He’ll make sure she gets her happy ending.
Matter of factly, Ficus tells Mournimar he set up an alarm system, around the area they resided, in case someone tried to attack them again. (Hell yeah, Alarm!)
They agree that there is too much cult activity, yo. The two bond over their family woes. Mournimar wishes his father was still alive. Having Mourni’s backstory is not fun. He hopes his dad miraculously survived and he just didn’t stick around to see if that was the case.
Mournimar has his head stuck in the past, Ficus states. “Don’t let the things you had make you forget what you have now.” After this wisdom from the Half-Orc rogue, the two seperate for rest times. Ficus evidently still very sore from all the damage he took. And Mournimar tries to eliviate some of that, curing the man of some wounds.
Burk’s watch comes next and frankly? He isn’t impressed by the time he spends awake. It’s nice, quiet and peaceful. Or as he would consider it - boring. With a sleepy Rimefang at his side, Burk just waits until dailight slowly approaches, to wake Belli for her turn, seeing as she always usually takes the last one, for her chef duties.
And creates French Toast. NARAH TOAST!
With the party waking, they can agree on a few things.
They still feel stiff from the previous night, they are much closer to Crystalgate... And they feel they’ve learned somethings, along the way.
Why?
Because the party is now Level 7!

If you, like me, don't want to buy and/or consume wine, there are a number of interesting vinegars that can substitute for cooking purposes.
Butter with veggies is where most of the tastiness comes from. It's not like fat is actually bad for you (unless you get too much of it at once, which will make you feel queasy, don't do that).
As for the Texture Question:
Some veggies start very crunchy and get softer. For broccoli, it's a bit like proper al dente pasta, in that the window between 'too crunchy' and 'too soft' tends to pass in like thirty seconds.
Some veggies start soft and get slimy. Spinach is mostly slime, and needs to be treated as a soup or ice-cream-in-a-blender ingredient. Zucchini needs something to remove the slime, whether that be by boiling it as pasta or just frying it for a while, sliced or shredded. Potatoes, onions, and summer squash go well with that.
Some veggies are forgiving. Onions will caramelize over time. Garlic takes a long time to burn. Summer squash is like a less-slimy and cold-tasting zucchini, but still moist enough that it doesn't burn quickly. Brussels sprouts are one of my favorite foods, if fried in some kind of tasty fat or oil. Boiled or steamed they're just nasty. Butter or smoky bacon fat are the best options, but a non-bitter oil will do in a pinch. Mushrooms tend to be like onions even if some varieties taste more like fish.
Pumpkins (there are a lot of varieties) would need to be chopped fairly small if you're frying them, but tend to work pretty well as a sweet dish. Likewise butternut squash. (Butter and brown sugar, or better yet raw sugar, mashed with baked butternut squash? Fantastic. Better than rice or semolina seasoned similarly - although those are good with cinnamon, and raisins and coconut milk are options for making rice tasty.)
Spaghetti squash is not good as a pasta substitute, but as its' own dish it's quite decent. Butter and salt. Might do okay in a street-ramen style soup?
Small pumpkins tend to be easier to cook well than the archetypical jack-o-lantern size, on account of needing less work chopping so the pieces will bake evenly.
Potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, kumra - good in hashbrowns, good as skillet chips, good as oven-baked fries, good as fillers for a roast, good deep fried.
Deep frying (boiling in oil) is actually pretty simple, although you have to be extra careful about safety. Don't splash, don't let water in as that will boil and cause oil eruptions, use tongs, use a lid and/or a splatter guard, and make sure you have a skillet with a wooden or plastic handle. Also have a cloth ready to wipe up any oil that spills on a burner.
Cooking in decent oil is actually quite critical to many veggies tasting good. Butter is tasty, but the solids can burn. Olive oil is kinda bitter, and thus not to everyone's taste. (Sidenote: 'I personally dislike this' and 'I have an allergy to this' is sometimes a connection that bears investigating!) Sunflower oil is decent and neutral. Coconut oil is fattier, burns a little more easily. Experimenting with different oils is worth doing.
Finally, something that can improve your cooking experience a lot: make sure you have a working range hood, and that you turn it on whenever you cook on the stove. Big deal for air quality. (If you're stuck with a hotplate, contrive to cook outside. And if you're somehow able to access this post while stuck with a chimney-less flame stove, perhaps you can benefit from the design principles of the Dakota firepit?)

Put the pie back in the oven (bottom rack) and allow the bottom crust to cook all the way through. Simultaneously heat the pie filling on the stove (over a low simmer) until the juice reduces.
