I think the 2nd biggest difference between Nick and Ben (besides one understanding consent and the other not) is that one of them runs two the queer community and one runs away.

Nick CRIES when he realizes he's queer. But instead of isolating himself, manipulating, and later assaulting someone about it. He . . . talks. He sobs on Charlie's bed about his queer crisis. He has lunch with Tara and Darcy. He eagerly accepts an invite to hang out with Charlie's queer friends.

Ben can't even have a conversation with the boy's he's kissing. Seriously 5 min. of talking before kissing, and an occasional cat meme and Charlie would have settled for him FOREVER.

They are both scared. They are both figuring things out. But every choice they make is different, and I think the healing power of community is one of the main reasons why.
