again, as always, the worrying amount of people who, when faced with some obscure reference to obvious current events, ASK THE DASH instead of opening ANY reputable interational news source is sickening and worrying
#It's literally top news on all websites i check regularly (nyt bbc tagesschau) + the ones i only use for specific info#please pick a reputable news source (that doesn't have to be one you are ideologically in line with!) and learn how to form an opinion#like i hate the FAZ for their conservative standpoint however they do report news really well#+ knowing they are conservatice means i can evaluate their style of journalism and come to my own conclusions based on other news too

Some Muse press from the BBC Devon archives (now defunct) from 2002, back when Muse were still fresh enough out of Devon that they'd have regional coverage rather than/alongside national coverage.
Muse miss out on Best Live Act award
Teignmouth trio Muse missed out on the title of Best Live Band of 2002, in the highly respected Q Music Awards. They were up against some tough opponents including Oasis and The Hives.
Muse were a big hit at the major festivals in 2002
There was disappointment for the Devon band Muse after they failed to win the Best Live Act of 2002 title at the Q Music Awards.
The Swedish rock combo, The Hives, walked off with top honours, ahead of Celine Dion-baiting angst rockers Muse, the mighty New Yorker strummers, The Strokes, hotly-tipped rock 'n' roll minimalists, The White Stripes and Oasis.
The nomination follows a great festival year for the Teignmouth trio, who played at the Plymouth Pavilions as part of their recent tour.
But it was the impact they made at the big festivals - including Reading and Leeds in August - which won them the nomination.
They have already won the Kerrang! award for best British live act this year.
Muse are made up of Matt Bellamy (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards), Chris Wolstenholme (bass) and Dominic Howard (drums).
The three friends met up as schoolboys in Teignmouth and were only 13 when they started their first group.
Muse released their first CD, Showbiz, in 1999, and were an instant success. That was followed by their second album, Origin of Symmetry, in 2001.
They have just recorded a version of the Animals' 1960s classic, House of the Rising Sun, which is included on the "1 Love" CD - released in October 2002 to raise money for the War Child charity.
FACTS
The first band set up by the three members of Muse was called Gothic Plague.
They were aged 13 at the time they set up their first group.
They have in the past caused some consternation in Teignmouth, by saying it was a boring place to grow up in.

It was annouced yesterday that the acting great who provided the voice for Darth Vader in the Star Wars films and its many spin offs James Earl Jones has died at the age of 93.
Speaking as a child of the 80s his performance as the voice of Darth vader had a great effect on me as a child its a voice of great power and authority and it scared me silly watching the original Star wars trilogy as a 5 year old.
The Many People who Brought Darth Vader to Life
Many people might forget that Darth Varder was the work of many people from George Lucas who wrote the original script in 1971
John Mollo who was costume designer for Star wars who passed away in 2017
and lastly Dave Prowse who provided Darth Vaders body who also passed away in November 2020 you can watch a BBC tribuite to Dave Prowse by clicking here Dave Prowse: Darth Vader actor dies aged 85 - BBC News
Indeed Darth Vader had such an effect on me as a child the first Star Wars figure I ever got as a child was a Darth Vader action figure bought instead of an easter egg by my nan so thank you James Earl Jones and other people who brought Darth Vader to life for being part of my childhood

Yesterday, July 8th, saw a huge march for trans rights in London. Over 25,000 people in attendance, including celebrities and activists.
Our "impartial" media, the BBC, hasn't mentioned it once across the BBC News website. You'd think 25,000+ gathering in the capital city to protest for equality would be worth even a token one-liner article, but no.
I would say I'm disappointed but at this point it's expected. I'm angry about it, though.
EDIT: Apparently one does exist: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce9gdmenl5zo

If you're upset about duolingo firing it's translators, you should check whatever the equivalent to the BBC is for your target language (or the BBC if that language is English, but if your target language is English and you're reading this I think you're good) because a lot of major national news organizations have resources for learning their language. For example, DW has resources to learn German, NHK has resources for learning Japanese, TV5monde has resources for learning French. They're usually free (or at least, I haven't encountered one that's paid yet) and usually pretty comprehensive (though like with all language learning apps/websites def supplement it with other resources)

one time at an American Gods signing in MN, we asked you if Tori would be the voice of the Tree
you said, and I quote, "If she isn't, I shall grumble."
did you grumble, Neil?
well, did you?
Why would I have grumbled?
Well, why?
There's more information at the BBC website.
But these days you need to get it from an audiobook site or buy it on CD or Vinyl.

[BBC is UK State Media]
A vessel suspected by the Namibian authorities to be carrying military cargo intended for Israeli use in the ongoing war in Gaza has been blocked from docking in the southern African country.
Namibian Justice Minister Yvonne Dausab told state media the ship was stopped because it had “explosive material destined for Israel".
The MV Kathrin, which set off from Vietnam, had requested permission to dock in the port of Walvis Bay – before sailing north, on a suspected route towards the Mediterranean via the Strait of Gibraltar.
Rights groups had warned that Namibia could have been implicated in potential human rights violations had it allowed the vessel to dock.[...]
The MV Kathrin, which was set to dock at Walvis Bay on Monday from Vietnam, was stopped in accordance with Namibia's support for the Palestinian people and the country’s call for an end to the violence in Gaza, Ms Dausab told the state-run New Era news website.
Citing a police investigation, Ms Dausab said the vessel was "indeed carrying explosive material destined for Israel, and was therefore prohibited from entering Namibian waters". “Namibia complies with our obligation not to support or be complicit in Israeli war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, as well as its unlawful occupation of Palestine,” she said.[...]
Namibian human rights organisation the Economic and Social Justice Trust (ESJT) welcomed the move.
"We are pleased that our government has decided to respect international law and decided not to be complicit to genocide," ESJT's Herbert Jauch told the BBC[...]
Namport has not responded to the BBC for comment about the MV Kathrin.

“I mean, Meleys is a beloved dragon.” — Ryan Condal, House of the Dragon, S2 E4 “The Red Dragon and the Gold” Director on Meleys’s head being paraded around King’s Landing
Why? Why would she be beloved? What has the dragon done to be loved? How do the common folk even know who she is? Do they make fancards of their favourite dragons? Do they have an official dragon website containing all the info that they check on a regular basis? Does it automatically update every Friday? Is Meleys like a mascot to them? Did she help them grow their crops? Literally, what?
“They’re the symbol of House Targaryen!” okay and why the fuck would they care about their colonisers’ sigil? What the fuck is this forced love for the Targs? Aegon’s Conquest happened 120 years ago. There’s no way these folks have forgotten that, as Cregan’s snide remark to Jace about his ancestor threatening his proves. The insinuation that the people of Westeros loved their oppressors is insane because imagine going out of your way to say shit like “No actually, the peoples of African loved the English and the French, they helped them evolve and stuff!”. He would have been rightfully stoned. The small folk canonically hate these fucking nuclear lizards, that’s why they kill them later on.
Did we all forget the mass murder Meleys committed during her escape, or does Condal simply not consider the episodes he did not write himself to be canon, lol? Is his beef with Sara so great that he’ll just ignore everything she added? And for those saying that the smallfolk wouldn’t be aware of this act because only a few hundreds died and news can’t spread fast there because they have no BBC: are you actually telling me the people might be unaware of a literal terrorist attack, but the execution of the rat catchers was what shocked them to their core? What?
I’m getting so tired of this series.
