Clanmew Expansion: Finches
Lads it's about to be Clanmew time again, I'm gonna blitz through a bunch of asks but first, here are some I made a few days ago for the upcoming Clanmew 102 which evolved into expansive notes.
FINCHES All 8 species of finch seen in the White Hart Wood and at Sanctuary Lake, and how Clan cats feel about them.
First things first! Finches have a 'generic' term, a word that describes the entire category;
Finch (Generic) = Afigu
A small bird with a large beak and colorful plumage, usually seen in groups.
One of the few birds that has a generic name in Clanmew. This is because finches are extremely social and will often flock with completely difference species of finch. A contraction of "Afaf" (Fluttering) and "Pigu" (Songbird).
When used as a name, it's usually invoking a social, friendly image. The name that Palebird chose for her fading kitten (which was quite the social taboo) was Afigumew, "Flocking Finch Kitten"
Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) = Miuu
Tumblr media
[ID: Northern Bullfinches, a male on the left, a female on the right.]
Males have a bright salmon-pink belly, and a humble tweeting call. Their beaks are small and powerful, though ThunderClan sometimes comes in conflict with them as they like to eat the buds off of fruit trees.
Most often used as a name by ThunderClan cats, usually referencing jolliness and a love of food.
Chaffinch (Fringilla coelebs) = Qiliao
Tumblr media
[ID: Two chaffinches. A female is on the left, a male is on the right.]
The common finch, males sporting a slate gray hood and red belly. Named for the sudden stop at the end of its song, this finch is a more active hunter than the others in its grouping.
When used as a name, it's used in the high hopes of the kit becoming a beautiful, social, and active hunter. Finchstar of ThunderClan's name in Clanmew was Qiliaoshai.
Goldfinch (Carduelis carduelis) = Wibuch
Tumblr media
[ID: A goldfinch perched on a creeping thistle.]
Has a distinctive 'chime' in its call, a bright red face, and a distinguished yellow marking on its side. A specialist eater that can pluck seeds out of spiky plants such as thistles. Seen as resourceful and brave by Clan cats.
Finchlight of ThunderClan was named "Wibuchshayu," Goldfinch-Radiance, referencing Firestar's opposition of Thistle Law. She is called "Wi-sha" for short!
Greenfinch (Chloris chloris) = Sheeshoo
Tumblr media
[ID: Two greenfinches on a mossy branch, a male on the left, a female on the right.]
Has a laugh-like call and is a uniquely colored, yellow-green bird. Seen year-round, males are a lot noisier than females. They tolerate conifers much better than most British birds, meaning they're often seen close to ShadowClan.
Regarded with suspicion by other Clans for their strange sounds and behaviors, it's used mostly by ShadowClan for bizarre and erratic cats. Finchflight of ShadowClan was named "Sheeshoofba," "Green Finch Will Liftoff Powerfully."
Brambling (Fringilla montifringilla) = Nree
Tumblr media
[ID: A brambling perched on a twig.]
A winter-exclusive bird that likes to eat beech nuts. Large, beautiful, and delicious. In the Forest Territories they liked RiverClan's beech patch, in the Lake territories they are only seen in ThunderClan.
Older kittens and young apprentices anointed in winter often meet bramblings as the first bird they'll stalk, as the beech patch is just north of ThunderClan camp and a very safe place to explore as soon as they understand that yew berries are deadly. Use as a name invokes winter, soft memories, and a welcome meal.
Lesser Redpoll (Acanthis cabaret) = Chrri
Tumblr media
Mostly seen in winter. Varied, always has a red spot on the top of the head, but sometimes also has a pinkish belly, or is nearly completely brown. The call is short, harsh, and almost rattle-like.
Can be translated into English as 'finch,' 'poll,' or 'redpoll' at translator's discretion. There is a greater redpoll, but it is very rare in this region! When used as a name, it may reference uniqueness. No two lesser redpolls look the same.
Siskin (Spinus spinus) = Iweewi
Tumblr media
[ID: A siskin perched on an alder twig, eating seeds out of the cones.]
A bright yellow bird with a rapid call. Considered a survivor for being able to survive year-round in any type of woodland, including conifers, but pretty small to be taken for food except in emergencies. Has a particular love of alder trees and can be seen around them a lot.
Linnet (Linaria cannabina) = Nanarree
Tumblr media
[ID: Two linnets. On the left is a female, on the right is a male in breeding plumage.]
Sometimes considered a finch by Clan cats, though it wouldn't be hard to argue to them that it's a hybrid between a sparrow and a redpoll. The kitties have not figured out taxonomy! They love to eat flax and other seed-bearing plants, and thus are seen often in ShadowClan, RiverClan, and at WindClan's watery borders.
In either case, a linnet is strongly considered a 'pigu' and killing one is considered very dishonorable, especially in WindClan. Their songs are sonorous, and hearing them is a beloved experience.

Hey hey hey! What’s Ikoni like?
- @bb-baker
Apologies for taking a bit of time with this, I ended up having a lot to think about myself. Especially in relations to your own potential experiences at Blueberry Academy.
One of the first things that I think people will see is that Ikoni has become, in many ways, a home for a great many cultures. Over the past century or so we've seen a large influx of immigrants from regions like Kanto, Johto, Unova, Alola, Galar, and so on. So there's a lot of different cultural ideas wrapped up in the identity of someone born and raised here. My own home town, Hestia, was first built by immigrants all the way from Kalos and you can still see that in our older buildings.
Underlying all of that is a culture of openness and harmony with the world that was the foundation of the Native peoples who have lived here for thousands of years. With a lot of it centering around our own region's local guardian, Manafyfe, who is still considered the symbol of our home. Many legends and myths center on how she guided the ancient people to settle this land, taught them how to prosper and grow with the pokemon in our region. Most of all she is credited to guiding those native people and refugees fleeing war and famine to find a way for us all to live together in peace. A peace that led to the modern region of Ikoni today.
She is "The Spirit of Cooperation!" being one of the ways I've heard her described. That spirit of cooperation can be credited to how readily our region seems to take in people from across the world, as well as in how we work and live with the pokemon around us. There are many wildlife refuges and rescue centers, protected wild spaces, and one of the most respected professions one can have here is being a Pokemon Ranger. Which I think says a lot about how well we live with the wild pokemon right next door to us.
If there is a source of potential problems, it's that there's a lot of different ideas on how Ikoni takes those ideals going forward. For example we have a rather healthy tech industry through Ivory Tower Industries which every day is putting out new standards of technology in the healthcare and pokecare industries, as well as in eco-friendly transportation and power options. It would be fair to point out that my own Childcare Center is 100% emissions free due to Ivory Tower wind and solar based options. But with that drive for progress comes a conversation about what of our history is meant to be preserved so that we can keep drawing upon inspiration for that future. There have been cases of old historical sites being bulldozed to make way for new power centers, expanded housing, and renovations to the old rail system that stretches over the region. There are protests against and for such actions that so far have remained civil enough to not concern us in Hestia town at least.
But I think we'll get through it all, the conversation is on going and I imagine that we'll keep to that "Spirit of Cooperation" that has served us all so well. Also if you would like to hear another's insight into our region, I'd recommend you reach out to my friend @ikoninovelist. She'll probably write a novella's worth of thoughts for you if you find yourself still curious.

Mentor!Leesin x student!male reader x Sett . In Ionia have spirits right? So reader have a serpent spirit in him and don't know how to control it , so he accidentally destroy a village when his still a kid ( kinda look like Lee old lore ) . Leesin found him after the accident and decided to help reader control it , also he meet Sett be accident when some get lost in to his underground Area
Wew sorry this took a while got sidetracked cuz school and stuff hehehe 😅 but I made it a bit longer .
Tumblr media
• Pairing •
[ a little bit ] Lee Sin X male reader [ mentor and student ] and Sett X male reader [ Romantic ship ] Bromance bb XD
• a little something •
a few cursed words on the last part, I'm making this in 3rd Point of View and instead of making the spirit as away for you to be powerful, it's gonna be your defense mechanism [ also like what Po from Kung Fu Panda kind of a thing ] and also you'll be a kid at the start before meeting Sett in your 20's ( He's 30 something and you're right his is a perfect Daddy for that 🤣).
× ∆ × ∆ × ∆ × ∆ × ∆ × ∆ ×
Everything happened so fast, the last thing you remembered was trying to avoid the alley kids from the village until they cornered you and started beating you up and when you asked for help people just walked by and it was the last straw, blinded by rage you accidentally lash out and let the spirit inside of you out.
All of the nearby people scream in fear and some in agony as they were killed by the large Serpent spirit that emerged from inside you and started moving. the buildings where destroyed to the ground, the trees and plants were either push or crushed down.
Soldiers and some brave men tried to take you down but you where just floating inside the spirit safe from their harmful weapons, The being continued on wrecking havoc around the village killing every living being in it's path before disappearing in thin air when it was sure you were safe from harm.
Then you drop from the crushed ground still unconscious as the new morning sun raised from the hills near your Village.
Lee Sin and the Monks was alarmed by the disturbance in the area, they decided to investigate and found a village burned and destroyed to the ground but was lucky enough to see who the perpetrator was, they saw The Serpent Spirit Disappearing by slowly entering your body in mid-air before leaving your form to fall on the ground.
The monks quickly run towards your unconscious body while Lee calmly walk and kneeled down when he reach you finally sensing the content spirit inside you more different than his and very strange.
Nonetheless they all decided to bring you back to the Monastery to heal and find out who you are.
When you regain consciousness, you were greeted by monks and provided with food and clothes, you were a little hesitant by their caring ways but even so you were still greatful.
After changing into knew clothes you asked.
"Um thank you for the new clothes but can I asked you why I am here?".
The monks kept quiet until an older monk step up.
"I am afraid to say that it not our place to explain your situation but I know the one who can ".
Curious to what he meant you followed him towards an Isolated ground with beautiful wildlife around it and few balance stones, structures and ponds.
Looking forward you see a man meditating in the middle but what's more strange is him wearing a red cloth around his eyes.
When reaching him the Elder monk left the both of you and walked back to the building (Monastery).
"ah you're finally awake boy". startled you look back and see the blindfolded man standing now with his arms behind his back.
The two of you talked for awhile exchanging questions and answers until a certain topic came in mind.
"I'm sorry to interrupt but the elder said you can explain what happened to me?".
He explained how a spirit - a Serpent most likely - was living inside of you, like how the dragon spirit choose him but alot more different.
"Different? How so?".
He says that instead of choosing you as it's vessel, it choose to just live inside of you and became protective of you.
Seeing as you have no place to return to, Lee Sin and the Monks offered a place in the Shojin Monastery for you to live, Lee Sin taugh you everything about the spirits, how to control them, how to fight to be strong enough to not depend on the spirit, while The monks guide you through spiritual ways to help you more on Lee Sin's teaching while also teaching you about life and it's importance.
Years have gone by you finally learned how to control the spirit inside of you and additional you also learned how to fight from your Master who is also your father figure, Lee Sin and Learned the deeper meaning of life through the monks.
You decide to travel and start living away from Monastery and maybe finding more about the outside world, so you packed up with some clothes and few gold coins before saying goodbye to the people you can call family.
Walking around you made sure to explore more of Ionai, you then stumbled upon a city with less wildlife and later found out that this was one of the place that Noxus build to show how they can carelessly claim the Ionian grounds, no Plants, no animals but you can still see Ionian people walking around but saddened to see no Vastyan in sight.
Sighing to yourself you continued walking around looking for things you might need in the stalls when you hear loud shouting nearby, placing down an apple back you excused yourself to the Vendor and trudge towards the sounds.
Looking past the people around you see a large male screaming down at surprisingly a Vastayan Woman with long white hair and ending with the color purple on the tips, snapping out of your shock you run towards them and catch the raised hand of the man that was probably gonna land on her cheek.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you".
You said not even stuttering while glaring at him, he struggled in my grip but gave up and went to punch me with his other hand instead.
I effortlessly dodge it and twisted his arm and kicked him away before helping the Vastayan woman up, you turned towards the crowd.
"I would like for you people to mind your own business, now leave". you harden your words making the people leave in fear.
You turn towards to woman and help her picked up the scattered foods from her fallen basket, she was hesitant towards your kindness like how you were when you were a kid but you only offered her a smile and s deep bow as a sign of respect, one of the best lessons your master taught you.
When you walked away she continued to watch you before someone tapped her shoulder and grab her basket that was properly filled back with all of the food she bought.
"Hey, sorry Ma I got caught up with something, you ok?". a Tall large build man said before nudging his mother to put her arms around his elbow as they start walking back to the busy market.
"oh nothing Dear, it's just I met a rather peculiar man on the way". Hearing that the Half Vastayan man couldn't help but worry but his mother defended you.
"but in a good way, he help me when I 'fell down and scattered' my groceries". He hesitantly nod his head and tried to calm his worried heart.
After that Day you decided on living in the city, you found a job and meet new people but you often wonder if you'll meet that Vastayan woman again.
"I hope she's alright". you said to yourself before effortlessly carry 10 large sacks of powdered cement -5 on each shoulders- and walk towards the construction site as people gawk at your strength when you walk pass them.
You carefully dodge every person you walk but stumbled a bit when a large guys bump into you.
"Hey! Whoa! sorry about that". you grunt but quickly fix your stance and re-adjust the weights in your shoulders before calmly returning back to your walking.
"Hey!- watch where yo- huh?". the Tall Half Vastayan man from before grunted but stumbled on his words when he saw you walk away and surprised to see a small yet lean man like you carry that much weight but shook his head and continue on.
Finish for the day you patiently waited for your payment when one of your co-worker approach you.
"Yo Y/N! got a minute?".
"More than a minute actually, can I help you with something?". you looked at them as you wait in line with the other workers.
"Nah man I just wanna ask if you wanna fight in the pits tonight". he said while waving a poster in your face
"You know I hate those stuff Arik I'm afraid I'll have to pass that one". you wave the paper away from your face and gently grab the small bag of coins from the lady whilst saying 'thank you' to her.
Walking away Arik who was stubborn as a pampered brat keep insisting it making your patience thin, by the last moment you almost let your spirit get fired up before shutting them up.
"OKAY fine Arik I will just please stop with your whining it's more irritating than your normal voice". you rip the poster from his hands and walk off.
"Yes! that's the!- wait?! my what?!".
Picking your ear you walk inside the large Pit with Arik guiding you, flinching when you say people fighting down and people screaming like wild animals when one of them land a hit or two.
You watch as your friend talked to some man on the side before giving them a small sack of money before walking back to you.
"really Arik betting money on illegal pit fights? don't tell me you have much more worse things you than this". you glare at him but he just shrugged his shoulders and pushed you towards the fighting area.
"Don't worry 'bout lil'ol me and worry how you gonna beat those guys asses and no I have no more worse things to do than this". he said before leaving you in you devices.
You glare at them then huff before walking off and join the people on the waiting area.
Few fights when by you continued of just knocking your opponent with only few punches and kicks rather than killing them, you were Forbidden to takes someones else life again if you wanted keep the spiritual bond with your spirit.
Not noticing a man watching you from his post on top of the balcony, who had the perfect view to your fights.
Nearing the end of the fight you finally got to fight 'The Boss' to the death, hearing this you stared at you so called friend and started motioning him that you quit, he shook his head 'no' and just shake the bag of coins in his hands.
You facepalm not noticing your next opponent entering the pit with you in it.
The Boss named Sett walked towards you before stop few meters away, He smirks at you while acting cocky, you only raised and eyebrow before sighing in frustration.
"I'm wasting my time here". you tell yourself while pinching the bridge of your nose.
"Well I'm surprised you got pass all the contenders here construction boy, ready to get your ass kick?". he said before putting his brass knuckles on.
You said nothing and just stood there looking at him.
Seeing that you're not moving first He took the opportunity to strike you first but before he can reach you, you raised your hand and signal to stop before announcing.
"I'm not fighting you". Directly after that people started cursing and boo-ing at you only making you roll your eyes then walk away.
Sett stared dumbfounded at you as you walk out from his pit, enraging him he stomps to you and started looking for you, shoving people away he saw you almost reaching the large wooden doors that leads to the outside.
"HEY YOU! GET BACK HERE AND EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT WAS THAT BULLSHIT BACK THERE!". Sett shouts to you making you turn around.
"What are you talking about?".
"I said what kinds shit-show did you do back there?". he growled and towered you.
"I simply said that I don't want to fight you, isn't that a win for you?". You calmly said shocking him a bit.
Getting a bit lot of words you continued to speak.
"I don't see you as a weak person, I can clearly see that but I know myself that what you do here is not my thing, it's yours. so if think of me as a coward or anything I don't blame you it was an accident and also my fault that I let my 'friend' drag me here". you turn around and walked away.
Sett stared at your form slowly disappearing in the distance not even breaking away from his blank-staring until his assistant brought him back.
"Shows Over, tell them the challenger quits". He said before walking back to his office.
Since that fiasco you continued on with you life and started to forget about that night or any thing related to that.
You were walking around the market when you were approach by the Vastayan woman you've meet before, you and her talked and accompanied her while she buy things around.
The two of you talked for a bit and was being watched by Sett who was buying something that his mother asked him, quickly approaching the both of you he took a second to look and recognize you from that night.
"Ma, here's the silk you asked for". he said showing her the fabric he then turned to you when he saw that she was busy fiddling it.
"Hey". he greeted first making you nod.
"Hey to you too". you smiled and continued staring at him.
His mother looked between the two of you and giggled to herself.

All Creatures Great and Small- a new AU
Inspired by a cute video @dusted-souls sent me of an Andean cat
Gwendoline Phasma and Armitage Hux are wildlife photographers who trek around the world taking pictures of big cats. (Gwendoline has veterinary training also, so sometimes she helps take care of animals.)
Finn and Rey are the editors of a magazine run by the conservation nonprofit “All Creatures Great And Small.” (ACGAS wants to foster awareness for endangered animals and the environment. They’re also not like PETA.)
Poe Dameron started ACGAS. He’s a zookeeper who wants to encourage people to care about animals and the environment. His companion is a red panda known as Bebe, which is a nickname for BB-8. (BB-8 was the number they used to keep track of her while she was being rehabilitated.)
Sometimes their efforts are thwarted by business mogul Kylo Ren, who wants nothing more to basically take over the world with his corporation Sith Incorporated. He is being guided by some shady guy known simply as Snoke.
Yeah this is still under construction and kind of cheesy. It has big 80s cartoon energy, no?

We Belong to the Stars, CH.10
Word Count: 1826
Pairings: Poe/Evelyn (OC)
A/N: I’m so sorry that I didn’t get this posted the other day like promised! Links are provided below in case you need to catch up :)
Chapter One / Chapter Two / Chapter Three / Chapter Four / Chapter Five/ Chapter Six / Chapter Seven / Chapter Eight / Chapter Nine / AO3
Tumblr media
Unknown Regions
Black Squadron pulled out of hyperspace at the last known coordinates for Agent Lothor. They had left early that morning, not to rouse suspicion among their fellow Resistance fighters. Poe glanced out the cockpit of his Starfighter at the barren looking planet below them. "Hey, Beebee-ate, start scanning for any signs of life down there."
BB-8 warbled a response and Poe frowned. "Yeah, you're right," he said, "it doesn't look like it could support life, but this is where the Resistance tracked Lothor too, so start looking. With any luck we'll be out of here before the First Order even realizes we're around."
"Don't see what the First Order would want with this planet," Snap's voice said over the comm line.
"Kyber," Evelyn replied. "This planet was supposedly rich in it a long time ago. Looks like it's been mined to dust."
Poe took a deep breath and flipped a few switches on his control panel.  "Snap, Pava, you patrol the orbit; Evelyn you're with me."
Evelyn didn't respond for a moment, and then asked, "And where are we going, exactly?"
He guided his fighter towards the atmosphere of the planet, ordering her to follow his lead.  Poe noticed on his scopes that she did so.  "We're going to go check out that planet, see if we can find Agent Lothor.  I mean, isn't that why your aunt sent us here?"
She sighed, incredulously. "Yes, it is why she sent us. I just... I don't know, Poe.  None of this feels right."
"Come on, Evie, let's have a little optimism here."
"Fine. Some of this doesn't feel right."
Poe chuckled as he started his landing sequence.  The two T-70's descended down through the sulfuric clouds, heading towards hills of jagged rocks.  Poe frowned; Evelyn was right, the planet had been mined to dust.  He briefly wondered what this place had looked like before the vultures had gotten their hands on it.  "BeeBee, can we breath the atmosphere here?"
BB-8 chirped an affirmative and then found a spot that the two Starfighters could land safely.  Poe entered the coordinates and proceeded to land his fighter.  Running through the post flight procedures, he quickly assessed the situation, just in case they had to make a run for it.  Opening the hatch of the X-wing, Poe released his harness, and climbed out onto the wing. He left is flight helmet on the seat, and then edging his way to the end of the wing before jumping down.
Evelyn was waiting for him.  Pieces of her hair had come loose from her bun and were blowing in the cold breeze. She pointed over shoulder, alerting him to the settlement.  Both pilots were concerned that neither of their droids had detected any life, even though the settlement looked well taken care of.
"Is it possible they left in a hurry?" Poe questioned.
"CeeBee says that there are still several ships parked in the hanger," Evelyn replied.
Poe looked towards the settlement. Now he was getting bad feelings.  "Let's go," he said, gesturing in the direction of the settlement.  Pulling his blaster from the holster strapped to his thigh, the commander led the way over the rocks towards their destination. `It wasn't easy going, they had to climb over rock formations, the droids had to use gripping extensions from their bodies to keep up with their masters. Poe almost wished he had just asked the two droids to stay behind with the ships, but he knew that BB-8 would not have been happy about that. Besides, they might need them to help with locating Agent Lothor.
Evelyn still didn't like the impression this place gave off.  It was too quiet. There was no sound of wildlife, no birds, nothing, and she supposed that was the case because of the extensive mining that took place that destroyed the planet, but still, she'd been on rocks like this before and never felt so on edge.  Even though she was shut off from the Force she could still feel the tingles of the dark side.
At the entrance was the first sign that something terrible had happened; bodies laid smoldering. Poe clutched his blaster, tightly.  "No wonder no one answered our communications. Everyone is dead."
CB-2 rolled behind Evelyn's legs.  BB-8 was a bit braver and rolled forward, his photoreceptor peering into the destruction of the outpost.  He turned towards Poe for a moment, as if he was asking permission to proceed further.
"Do you think if you access the main computer, BeeBee, you can see if Agent Lothor sent any transmissions?" Poe inquired. BB-8 beeped an affirmative. "Okay, let's do this...quickly."
"Quickly, I like the sound of that," Evelyn murmured as they stepped further into the destruction of the outpost.
Panels flickered, smoke lingered in the air, mixing with pungent smell of burnt bodies.  Poe grimaced as the fresh air grew thinner and thinner the further they got into the compound. He covered his nose with his hand, following BB-8 as they made their way through the carnage.
BB-8 slithered into a large open room, Poe, Evelyn and CB-2 behind him.  A large communication console stood before them and at the base the body of their missing agent. Poe let out a heavy sigh before ordering his droid to hook up to the panel and see if anything had been transmitted.  If Lothor had managed to get his reports out before the First Order killed him, well, the Resistance still had a chance of recovering them.
Evelyn stared at the wounds on the man's body. Lightsaber. Kylo Ren.  She tried to keep the tears out of her eyes but it was impossible; memories from another night, another massacre surfaced and she could not push them away.  To this day she still could not understand how someone she had trusted, had loved, had turned against them all so quickly and violently.
Poe watched her as the emotions played out across her face. While BB-8 worked, he reached out and placed a hand over one of hers as it gripped the console. Truth was, he would never understand how Kylo had betrayed those he supposedly loved and cared for. Her tear-filled eyes rose to his and his heart broke. So many years of pain, and he'd contributed to a lot of that pain.  "You couldn't have stopped him; he was corrupted, Evie, coerced by the First Order."
"Knowing that doesn't make it less painful," Evelyn whispered with a shake of her head.
"No, I suppose not," Poe whispered back.
BB-8 became panicked.  He swiveled his head around, shrilly addressing Poe.
Poe's brow furrowed in concern. "What do you mean a super laser?"
Evelyn felt her breath hitch. "Like the Death Star?"
The little droid's only response was that the Agent Lothor had transmitted data and plans about a base, a base that had the potential to move from system to system and the power to destroy the sun.  Poe and Evelyn exchange worried glances.  "Download everything you can, Beebee, we need to get this all back to General Organa," Poe ordered his droid. It felt like ages for BB-8 to complete his work and detach from the console, but in reality, it was probably only five minutes.  Poe wanted to investigate more, but he got the feeling that their actions on this outpost were not going to go unnoticed by the First Order.  It was time to go.
Poe, Evelyn, and the two droids went back the way they came, through the death, flickering lights, back to the murky skies of the planet.  Halfway back to their ships, Poe’s comm went off and Snap’s voice shouted, “Commander, we have company!”
“Damn it!” Poe cursed, just as several TIE-fighters swooped down through the clouds. “Evie! Run!”
“How did they know we were here?” Evelyn cried, as they scrambled over the rocky terrain towards their fighters.
“My guess, they’ve been monitoring this system, waiting for us to show up.  Snap! We need cover, now!”
“We’re on our way, Poe!”
On cue, two x-wings swooped low, providing cover fire so Poe and Evelyn could make it to their ships.  Snap and Jess cleared out the first wave of TIEs with no problem.  Poe knew, after what happened with the Hervuion Grace, that these things were never simple. More enemy fighters would be coming.  First sign of trouble, you get out of there.   Leia had admonished him, instilled him that they could not afford any losses… in hindsight perhaps the first sign of trouble was the dead bodies.   There was no time to dwell on that now.  He needed to get his squad home.
Poe powered his x-wing up; immediately his panel was lighting up and screaming alerts.  The TIEs had damaged his hyperdrive.  Poe cursed and ordered BB-8 to get working on repairing it. Out of the corner of his eye, as he lifted his fighter into the air and sped towards space, he saw the TIEs closing in on them.  “Get out of here!” he ordered his pilots.  “As soon as you’ve made the calculations for lightspeed, make the jump!”
“What are you going to do, Commander?” Pava asked, a little uncertain.
“I’m going to try to get some of these TIEs off your tails,” Poe said, turning his fighter away from the rest of his squad.
“Liar. You’re hyperdrive is down.”
“Fine. You caught me, Pava. Now, make the jump. I’ll see you back at base. I can handle myself.”
“You stay behind you’ll be killed,” Evelyn snapped.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got this! Now, get out of here!” Poe shouted.
“I’m not leaving you!”
“Lieutenant, I’m giving you a direct order! Make the jump!”
BB-8 reported that Snap and Jess had made the jump back to D’Qar, but Evelyn was still sticking with him.  Poe grumbled to himself as he maneuvered out of the way of the latest onslaught of TIE fighters. “How much longer until the hyperdrive is ready, buddy?” he asked the droid.  Poe felt a little panicked when BB-8 replied it was going to take another minute.  One more minute could mean life or death for them. Poe glared at his scopes as Evelyn refused to leave him. When we get back to D’Qar she’s getting a piece of my mind…
Evelyn gasped over the commlink.  Poe snapped his head about, shouting her name. “I’m fine,” she responded, tensely, “one of my engines just flamed out. CeeBee’s on it.”
Poe ground his teeth. “Evie. Jump. NOW!”
“Not until you tell me that you’re ready to make the jump yourself.”
“Fine. But don’t think for one second that I’m forgetting this, Evelyn!”
Her response was to fire at a TIE that was closing on him rapidly, that he was unable to shake… Poe clenched his jaw, knowing that she had just possible saved his life.  BB-8 screeched that the hyperdrive was ready.  “Set the course, buddy!  Evelyn, punch it! I’m right behind you!”

Introduction to This Tour
Trips to East Africa can accomplish more than just ticking off a laundry list of incredible animal life sightings. On this 10 day tour through the Serengeti and Zanzibar, you'll have the opportunity to learn about local village life led by a local, see how huts are constructed in farmers' fields, and visit a local spice plantation. Of course, there's plenty of time for wildlife spotting on safari drives through Lake Manyara and Serengeti National Parks to acquire wildlife snaps that'll make your friends and family envious. Not only that but also you will have a chance to visit the Beaches in Zanzibar for your holidays. Day 1: Arrival in Kilimanjaro This first day of your tour to Tanzania starts with arrival into Kilimanjaro International Airport where our Safari Manager will pick you up and transfer you in a private car to your lodge in round Arusha town with pre-safari briefing en route and on arrival.  and you will also make payments for any pending fees. Dinner and overnight at Ilboru Safari Lodge. Dinner included.  Day 2:  Tarangire National Park Your actual wildlife safari starts with a 2 hour drive to Tarangire National Park which is famous for its large herds of elephants and the massive baobab trees. After a few minutes registration at the gate you will embark on your first game drive right away in search of the big game and spend the whole day in the bush with picnic lunch taken at one of the picnic sites. At Tarangire you expect to have a highlight of all the Tanzania safari with a lot of possibility to spot the elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffaloes, impalas, gazelles, the rare gerenuks and with a little bit of luck you can spot the cats like cheetahs, leopard and lions but also the rare fringe eared oryx. Tarangire National Park is also famous for birds including rare ones like the Ashy starlings and many more. MEALS: Lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast ACCOMMODATION: Octagon Lodge Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater After breakfast at the camp we set off for Ngorongoro Conservation crossing the Great Rift Valley on the way with nice scenery to enjoy. After a short stop at the Loduare Main gate where we will register to access the Conservation area you will be driven to the Crater rim a another brief stop to catch stunning views over the Crater floor and take some pictures. After that will then descend into the Crater floor for game drives for the rest of the day checking in at the lodge in the late afternoon by 6.00 PM. Ngorongoro Crater also called the Eden of Africa is the only place where you can spot the Big Five in one day with very little luck. Being a small area of just about 21 Km across the largest unbroken caldera in the world, it is amazing the number of animals you get to see at very close range in a single day of game drives at the Crater floor. You expect to see elephants, lions, zebras, hyenas, jackals, rhinos, leopards, and also cheetahs, name it. Picnic lunch will be served at a picnic site at the Crater, and watch out for the kites lest they snatch your food or fingers. MEALS: Lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast ACCOMMODATION: Ngorongoro Farm House Day 4: Serengeti National Park On this day you will wake up early in the morning for breakfast then we set off again further in the wilderness to Serengeti National Park, the land of the big cats and home to the famous Great Wildebeests Migration. We will stop briefly at Naabi Hill gate for registration then the rest of the day will be spent doing game drives in the endless plains. Game drives will go on until late in the afternoon when you will check in at your tented camp MEALS: Lunch, dinner, bed and breakfast ACCOMMODATION: Serengeti heritage Day 5: Full day at Serengeti Early morning game drive is a good option this day to spot the nocturnal species and the diurnal ones as they rise for a new day. 3 Days Tanzania tours to Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Manyara
Tumblr media
The Northern Circuit Encounter Our three-day Northern Circuit Encounter is a memorable experience of Northern Tanzania’s abundance of wildlife and spectacular scenery. Dubbed ‘Africa’s Garden of Eden’, The Ngorongoro Crater hosts an abundance of wildlife including the exceptionally rare black rhino and it is renowned for maximum game spotting.
Exploring the vast plains of savannah in Tarangire National Park and tranquil game drives along the shallow waters of Lake Manyara will leave you feeling enchanted and revitalized. 3 Days Tarangire
Day 1 One:  Arusha to Tarangire National Park We will depart from Arusha in the early hours of the day and drive to Tarangire National Park where colossal termite mounds and ancient baobab trees await us. This Park is renowned for its immense elephant population, picturesque scenery, and diverse birdlife. Tarangire has enticing wildlife that includes elephants, lions, giraffes, warthogs, ostriches, impalas, cheetah, mongoose, buffaloes, and baboons. When our game drive comes to an end, we will proceed to Lake Manyara where you will get dinner and overnight. 3 Days Tarangire
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater We will have a timely start to the day to ensure that we arrive at the Ngorongoro Crater promptly – early morning game drives provide you with an excellent opportunity to spot wildlife. We will enjoy a wonderful game drive with an appetizing picnic lunch inside the crater. The elevated structure encourages the animals to settle inside the crater which means you are capable of spotting every member of ‘The Big 5’ in one day. The big five tend to dominate the savannah and consist of buffalo, lions, elephants, rhinos, and leopards. The Ngorongoro Crater developed its structure nearly three million years ago when a colossal volcano erupted, making it the largest un-flooded, unbroken caldera in the world.
You can also expect to encounter zebra, hippo, wildebeest, and hyenas. You will find the flamingos gracefully lounging around Soda Lake and the vultures are always corroding the discarded prey of a predator. Other birds include storks and geese. Your guide will be in close contact with the other safari drivers and his impressive ability to track down hidden animals will assure that you have an eventful day. We will have dinner and spend the night at Lake Manyara.
Day 3: Lake Manyara to Arusha In the morning we will depart to Lake Manyara where we will spend the day and enjoy a delectable picnic lunch. The Park is nestled at the base of the rusty gold Great Rift Valley escarpment and the scenic landscape is breathtakingly magnificent. An abundance of species can reside in the park due to the wide range of habitats.
The Park record consists of over 380 species of birds, some of which are migratory, making it the ideal location for bird watchers. Thousands of pink-hued flamingos occupy the margin of the lake; other large water birds include pelicans, storks, and cormorants. The wildlife you can expect to see are buffalo, elephants, giraffes, impalas, and the ferocious hippos that inhabit the water. Our trip will come to an end in the late afternoon. We will proceed to Arusha. where you will overnight at Mrimba Palm hotel Meals BB Transport (4x4 Land Cruiser) with open roof Campsites / Lodge. park fees Professional English-speaking safari guide & chef breakfast; lunches; dinner 1,5 bottles of water per day; tea and coffee with meals

'Mermaid tears' are killing our oceans

'Mermaid tears' are killing our oceans
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Nurdles” may sound cute but they pose a huge risk to the marine environment. Also known as “mermaid tears”, these small plastic pellets are a feedstock in the plastic industry. Instead of being converted into household items, many end up in the ocean, collecting toxins on their surfaces and being eaten by marine wildlife. Not so cute now, are they?
Nurdles are the building blocks for most plastic goods, from single-use water bottles to television sets. These small pellets—normally between 1mm and 5mm – are classed as a primary microplastic alongside the microbeads used in cosmetic products—they’re small on purpose, as opposed to other microplastics that break off from larger plastic waste in the ocean.
The small size of nurdles makes them easy to transport as the raw material which can be melted down and moulded into all kinds of plastic products by manufacturers. Unfortunately, mismanagement of these little pellets during transport and processing leads to billions being unintentionally released into rivers and oceans through effluent pipes, blown from land or via industrial spillage.
An ocean of mermaid tears
“Mermaid tears” is an appropriate nickname when we consider the potential harm that nurdles have on marine life. Their small size, round shape and array of colors make them attractive food—easily mistaken for fish eggs and small prey. This “food” has an extra problem—it comes with a side of noxious chemicals.
The large surface area to size ratio and polymer composition of the nurdle pellets allow persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in seawater to build up on their surfaces. These toxins then transfer to the tissue of organisms which eat them. The problem is in the name—POPs are “persistent”, meaning they don’t go away easily and can remain on the surface of nurdles for years.
Nurdles can also be colonized by microbes that are dangerous to humans. A study investigating nurdles on bathing beaches in East Lothian, Scotland, found that all five beaches tested had nurdles that were covered with E. coli – the bacterium responsible for food poisoning.
Nurdles can be so noxious that people cleaning beaches or recording pellets in scientific surveys are advised not to touch them with their bare skin – which makes sun bathing on many beaches in the summer an unattractive prospect.
So how many nurdles are out there in the ocean and on coastlines? It’s estimated that up to 53 billion nurdles are released annually in the UK from the plastic industry. That’s the same amount of nurdles that it would take to make 88m plastic bottles. So why are nurdles rarely discussed in the plastic pollution debate?
The Nurdle hunting
Luckily, there are organisations raising awareness of nurdles and their prevalence in marine pollution. The Great Global Nurdle Hunt started by Fidra—a charity based in Scotland that addresses environmental issues—and the Marine Conservation Society encourages people to become citizen scientists and gather data on how common these pellets are on beaches around the world.
Data collection helps identify the main sources of this pollution from the plastic industry, which can use the information to improve management of the problem. As there are so many nurdles present in the environment, it takes an army of people to gather information about them. The Hunt takes place over ten days in February each year.
Citizen scientists log their nurdle findings onto a global map that shows the extent of nurdle pollution worldwide and how it’s changed over time. Since 2012, the number of beaches being searched has reached 1610 across six continents, 18 countries and with over 60 organizations involved.
This year, Staffordshire University’s Microplastic and Forensic Fibre Research Group took part in efforts to estimate the concentration of nurdles on Hightown beach in Liverpool, UK. An average of 139.8 nurdles per square metre were found. That’s around 140,000 nurdles over 1km of hightide line.
If you’d like to become a citizen scientist and collect nurdle data at your local beach, there are a few useful tips. Have a look at one of the online nurdle ID guides online so that you don’t mistake a polystyrene ball, BB gun pellet or ancient fossil for a nurdle.
Make sure to check seaweed and other marine debris when on the beach – these act like large nurdle nets. Once you’ve collected data, don’t forget to submit your findings to a suitable survey so that that they can be used to fight the pollution problem.
And if you don’t live near the coast, don’t worry—nurdles have been found in most environments, including rivers, lakes and even far inland and away from water. We even found them in soil in our campus. So let’s get nurdle hunting—but don’t forget your gloves.

Some of the people from the hidden communities still follow some traditional pattern of lifestyle, which means fully spiritual. Several monasteries and Chhortens are the symbols of their beliefs and they are highly influenced by Tibetan Buddhism.
Following the trail with glaciers and moraines, you reach to the Gorakshep and hike to the Everest base camp and Kalapatthar one after another destination. This part is located over 5000 meters, so your walking should be guided by your physical fitness and acclimatization.
