super macho man headcanons
these headcanons? you cant afford these headcanons!
Can and will always reply to anything with "that's what she said" or "your mom" if it fits, everyone absolutely hates him for it.
Says he has a godly spice tolerance but can and will scream if you give him anything remotely spicy, considers black pepper spicy.
Has a wardrobe full of silly button-ups with fun patterns, he is not ashamed of it and will show it off with pride.
Very reckless with stuff he owns since he can always buy another copy of it thanks to his bank account as deep as the mariana trench, has crashed 3 cars somehow. (1 done for shits and giggles, 1 accidental and the last one stolen.)
Can and will go shirtless anywhere, in his iconic Super Macho Banana Hammock™ if possible, to the point where his PR team had to stop him from showing up in it to a funeral once.
Sings in his sleep and its absolutely HORRIFYING, its always either Lady Gaga songs or beatboxing, has woken up to himself singing multiple times.
Has the ugliest crying face ever, the WVBA has the unspoken rule of "Do not look at Macho Man while he cries unless you can hold in your laughter or youre a fast runner." Thanks to him.
Really good at improv comedy somehow, it works thanks to his voice/accent and the way he answers questions.
Cannot pronounce Baja Blast, it always comes out as "Boho Blost"
Has been caught stalking the other boxers social media accounts, the first victim of this was Glass Joe, everyone later found out he was absolutely flaming everyone on his alternative accounts.
Likes eating Jello, has a shirt that says "I FUCKING LOVE JELLO" that was a gift from his dad.
Once tweeted out a picture of his ass to Don Flamenco after he lost a match to him,got banned instantly off of Twitter.
Extremely commited to jokes/bits to the point where he references them during actually serious situations.
Has bailed out the other boxers out of jail multiple times, he may be a asshole but he isn't willing to let his fellow colleagues™ stay in jail.

Holy shite, i missed a (ten) spot!
When i tell you i actually panicked a bit when i realized i'd not put up a recap post. It took me a hot minute to figure out that i was only a day late, but still.
youtube
This level is so loud. Like, thankfully it's also pretty short, but it's still awful damned loud. i try not to get on creators' cases about sound balancing; my ears are so bad, whenever i use music or sfx they're either too loud or too soft, because i honestly can't tell? But even still, i wish more creators would fiddle wiv the volume a bit, especially when they're using community-made tracks; they're always way too loud. Otherwise, this level is, it's fine really. Nothing that really stands out about the gameplay or presentation, but it's fun enough for a couple of minutes. i do have to say it was interesting they used this section of The Cosmos backdrop, 'cause i hardly ever see it. Usually folx (myself included, mind you) pull it down to the arcade cabinets, or mid-way up to the more space-y section. This part is kind of neat too.
youtube
This one's such a neat idea, and really well presented too, right down to the music (tho', if i remember right, Baile-Flamenco was kind of known for that). Kind of half-in-half-out on puzzles and platforming, where you can transfer movability to objects by grabbing them (the in-universe explanation is you're painting them wiv a puddle of blood). i love the little diorama bit toward the end, wiv all the world's monsters, including... YOU! The Sadako climbing out the telly is a top notch bit. i also really appreciate that the creator went to such lengths to put the level in English. It's not perfect, maybe, but their writing/speaking style has a lot of charm, and doing that kind of thing is hard work.
youtube
Just a simple little bounce around the screen grabbing point bubbles and avoiding bombs kind of gig. It's well presented, tho', and the home-brew bounce pads are still functioning mostly right, which isn't always the case wiv LBP1 levels in LBP3.
youtube
i may have gotten on a bit of a taka061 kick that week of recording, but his levels are so good. It does raise a bit of an issue for me, 'cause sometimes i'd really like to just record a bunch of levels by one creator, but wiv only one episode a day, i feel a bit like i'm taking space from other folx? Honestly, i'd love to just take two weeks and play all of chronos' stuff for the archives. The only thing of note here, aside from the level just being really, really good, is i wound up having to record it again a few days after the episode went live, because i needed some b-roll for my LittleBite-sizedPlanet look at Tic Tac Sunset, and that playthrough was way better than the one we have here. Just a little salty about that.
youtube
Kind of weird we had two levels based around colouring the environment in the same chunk of ten. That wasn't planned at all. Neither was my having a pseudo-y Roman-y motif-y kind of level to be published on the Ides of March. Just happy accidents all over, i guess. This one is nice enough, but it is just a bit too much, and i felt like it'd worn its welcome out by the end (tho', in fairness, that was on me since i wanted everything i could get for the archive). Now i really appreciate that the creator apparently had the same idea, and gives the player two chances to bounce early. That's not me giving a backhanded compliment, i really do think that's a cool thing to do. There've been plenty of levels i've played, even quite good ones, where i've found myself thinking "please, just give me a scoreboard already." One interesting thing wiv this one, or at least how it dovetails wiv the LittleBite-sizedPlanet for this upcoming Friday, is how if you make too many things interactable, your brain (or mine, at least), just starts to actively not care? Because there are just too many things going on to track, or for any one of them to have real importance in comparison to any of the others.
youtube
It's a little weird that this level leads off wiv that wee robot-y(?) character being very clear that you have to turn every valve, and then half the valves in the level not actually doing anything. i wonder if that was on purpose, or if something went a bit sideways in the translation from LBP2 to LBP3. i liked this one fairly well; it's got a really solid material and decoration set that get put to good use, tho' i'd say they're presented best when the camera is pulled in a bit more. That happens a lot, i find. It's rare for a creator to get a big environment looking real good, even when it's necessary for gameplay to have a pulled out view. That's not meant to be a knock on any creators, just that it seems a tough trick to pull off.
youtube
We talked about this on Friday, and i stand by everything i said there.
youtube
i wound up really enjoying this one, and i'd like to give the LBP1 level it's adapted from a play on stream. The swimming bits were a little hard to navigate, on account of them being dark, and my always forgetting you can't just change layers underwater, but i really don't have any big complaints about this one.
youtube
Gameplay-wise there's nothing too flash in this one, but i really found myself charmed by the environment. kome managed to nail a scale that felt just right. The incidental details really put in a lot of work too. Like, those terrariums? <chef's kiss> i did discouver thanks to this one (we'd actually played it on stream before i recorded it for the archive) that Twitch mutes the audio in the VoD download file, not just the VoDs that are up on Twitch, and i hate that like the devil hates sin. i'd suspected it to be the case, but i never listen to my streams once they're up. Even searching for a thumbnail i tend to have it on mute. It just popped in my brain to make a point of checking this time, and sure enough. i tell you that really frazzles my frizzles.
youtube
Dry tree yo. Just.. Dry tree. i don't even really know what to say aside from it is so very, very good. The fact that it has still, somehow, managed to not be Team Picked (despite having picked up a Level of the Day nod) is, quite possibly, honestly a sin. If it weren't for the fact that some of the Team Picks are actually very much quality, i'd assume Sumo were throwing darts at a list of creators they already liked. i played through this one so many times trying to get a run wiv all the secrets, which is a difficult feat on account of i never put any points into Spot Hidden, but i did finally manage to pull it off. Gotta say it felt pretty good.
So that's another 10 down, yeah. After the kerfluffle wiv my level last week, i've got the feeling it's going to be a little late to justify an every 50 schedule for a hub publish. i kinda had that feeling tho'. i do think this build is going to go more quickly, since there are a lot of parts to it that i'm keeping from the previous one. Trying it out in dThermo is a bit of a worry; i've never had particular luck wiv that system. Based on what i've heard, tho', at least some of it was just me honestly using it wrong. Thankfully i've got chat helping out, and @mellangard , especially, has a lot of experience wiv dThermo, and his advice has been invaluable.
i don't know that anyone watches the episodes all the way to the end to notice, but i think i changed up the end card somewhere in this stack. Nothing really too drastic, just tossed a progress flag up instead of the black background i'd been using. i don't change the tagline every episode like i do wiv LittleBite-sizedPlanet, and i think we'll probably be sticking wiv "For Fierce Trans Joy" for at least a little while longer. Times have been rough for us, and look to be getting rougher depending on where you live (my trans sibs in Missouri, just... fucking hell); but i want us to have our joy, even if we have to claw it out raw and bloody.

Opinions on the funky bird Oricorio?
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Oricorio's a neat reference to how some birds become different species as they adapt to certain food sources (much like Darwin's finches). In a way they almost feel like they'd work better as split-evos, mostly because they don't have much of a visual connection to each other apart from having the same eyes/beak and basic body shape. Then again, split-evos would require it to have a useless pre-evo, and it's more fun to be able to switch between forms anyway. Regardless, it's a fun premise.
Also, I don't really see how these guys being tied to Alola is a problem; plenty of Pokemon show up in places that their IRL counterparts wouldn't (especially from trainers releasing them). If it's the nectar that's the issue, there's no reason it couldn't be imported. The only form that connects directly to Alola is Pa'u.
Out of all forms, I think Baile style is my fav. I'm a sucker for red and black color schemes, and the way the black reflects the shape of the wings and the tail is lovely. I also really like the way the tail overlaps on itself, much like real bird feathers do. Only thing is that the "earrings" probably could've been black as well.
Tumblr media
Pom-Pom Style is def the cutest of the bunch; it's pretty hard not to love a little bird cheerleader. The way the fluff is integrated not only into the pom-poms but into the feet and head as well is nicely done. Only thing about this one is that I don't like the color all that much; lime green is just a bit odd for an electric type instead of a pure yellow.
Tumblr media
Pa'u style is probably my least fav, but it's not terrible or anything. There's just something about the shape of it that bugs me; it might be that the wings have no feathers coming off of them aside from the ones at the tips, making it look a little plucked. Not helped by the fact that we can't actually see the base of its legs in this one, making it look weirdly humanoid.
I think if the "skirt" had one more layer of feathers on top that were the same color as the body, it would help make it and the headdress look a bit more connected. Add a row of pink and white feathers to the wings and I think it'd be solid.
Side note, am I the only one who thinks psychic is a weird choice here? It feels like the other types represent the dances (fire for flamenco, electric for cheer leading, ghost for Japanese dancing), but I don't see a connection between hula and psychic at all.
Tumblr media
Sensu style comes close to being my fav, only narrowly edged out by Baile. Ghost is a neat typing choice for Japanese dances, and I'm a big fan of the lovely purple/pink/blue palette. Plus, its dex mentions it summons the dead with its dancing, and really, that's just cool.
Overall, some fun birds with a fun gimmick. Personally, I'd love to get more regional forms added based on the dance styles of new regions, along with new nectars. We already arguably have four regions covered here (Spain not even having a game yet), so it woudl feel natural to expand the roster as time goes on.

muse’s pokemon team.
Tumblr media
/Luna’s team is reminiscent of her personality, mostly revolving around the fact that she likes dogs. Fenrir (Lycanroc) is her companion pokemon who is always seen walking alongside her unless they’re participating in a sanctioned Pokemon League match. Much like her hell hounds, he is viciously protective of his master, sending her would-be rivals/haters blasting off again with Stone Edge, while at the same time melts like putty in her hands. Lucrezia (Oricorio) may be a Baile Form, but specializes in Flamenco dancing and pulling off devastating, mid-air techniques with her Flare Blitz.
Tumblr media
/Anton also has his team based off his personal interests, mostly choosing pokemon that have musical themes or abilities. Gwen, short for Guinevere (Treecko), was his first pokemon and despite her small stature in her unevolved state is extremely swift and agile with Leaf Blade. She’s also his companion pokemon who clings to his back like a knapsack whenever they’re walking around town. Ygraine (Bewear) was actually brought back from Alola as a souvenir by Anton’s father, when she was still a Stufful. Now a fully grown Bewear, Ygraine is still rather shy and tends to avoid confrontation whenever possible, though physically she is the strongest pokemon with the highest ATK on his team. She is quite literally the living embodiment of ‘looks like a cinnamon roll, but could actually kill you’.

Final Fantasy IX ~ Melodies and Memories
"Jesters of the Moon"
There are a lot of very good video games in the world, but it takes some luck and circumstance outside of a game's control for one to reach me at just the right time(s) and place(s) in my life that it has a tangible impact on who I am -- who I want to be. One that carves out a space for itself in my soul that will never be removed or replaced.
I've just finished playing Final Fantasy IX for the first time, and there's no doubt in my mind that such is the case here.
(Continued below readmore.)
Tumblr media
I drew this art last year, when I was mourning my attachment to an old favorite game that I just don't feel the same way about anymore: Majora's Mask. I wanted to draw something that captured my feelings about it, because sometimes art is the best way to talk about something when the words don't want to come.
Why is "Jesters of the Moon," the name of a random song in the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack, plastered in the middle of this Majora's Mask fanart? Especially considering I hadn't even played Final Fantasy IX yet when I drew this?
The reason is exactly that "luck and circumstance" that allowed me to fall so uniquely in love with the game.
"Mt. Gulug"
In 2008, someone on YouTube uploaded a Majora's Mask parody-slash-let's-play series called "Majora's Mask: The Things Which Were Taken Out." The series has since become unlisted and won't be linked here out of respect for the creator who probably doesn't want things they said and made in 2008 being spread all over the internet, but because of Unregistered Hypercam 2 reasons, the series inserted other background music over the video and didn't record the actual game audio.
I didn't recognize any of the music, but I watched these parody videos on repeat because in addition to being funny (...at the time, in my mind, at least), I really really loved the music. It got to the point where I would sometimes be playing Majora's Mask and get disappointed when I approached Goht and the Mt. Gulug theme wasn't playing in the background.
I had forgotten about these videos for a really long time in the interim, but I remembered them at some point when I was thinking about Majora's Mask and I found them again. The creator had cited the Final Fantasy IX soundtrack for virtually all of the background music used in the videos, and I realized that despite knowing literally nothing about the game, I had become really fond of - and weirdly nostalgic for - the songs from it that I now recognized.
So I looked up "Jesters of the Moon" and played it on repeat while I drew out my feelings in colored marker. A few months later, I realized that my backwards compatible PS3 can also play PS1 games, and eBay had FFIX for PS1 at a good price. I had nothing to lose by ordering it and seeing what the source of all that fantastic music was like.
"Vamo Alla Flamenco"
I started my playthrough knowing nothing about what to expect from the game. I'd never played a Final Fantasy game before and my overall JRPG experience has been mostly limited to Tales of, Persona, and more recently, mainline Shin Megami Tensei. The only things I knew about Final Fantasy were a) the Tidus laughing scene, and b) Sephiroth. IX seemed like it had vibes I would enjoy, but beyond that I knew nothing about what the experience would be. So I approached it with a "let's have fun and see how it goes" attitude, naming my party members the first silly thing that came to mind, ending up with "Swaggy," "OwO," "Bitchin," "Gunz," and "SWOOORD" to start with.
(For the record I do not regret those names whatsoever.)
I was immediately struck by how differently the game uses music in comparison to all of my previous JRPG experiences. This was not a game where the composer was given a list of theme songs that were slapped on top of a mostly completed game-- this was a game constructed with the soundtrack in mind as a part of the writing process.
The opening act plays almost like an opera (side note, yes I know one of the other FF's has a literal opera, I haven't played that one): you traverse the same locations from different perspectives as different characters, introducing the cast with lighthearted humor and dramatic irony out the wazoo. While you traverse the city as OwO, OwO's theme is playing in the background, coloring your perspective of the city and the narrative. When you switch to Gunz patrolling around the castle, Gunz's theme accompanies your movement and informs his character and mission. I am so accustomed to "location themes" being the norm in virtually all video games that experiencing character and/or narrative themes as BGM instead while I bumble around town changed my entire perspective on what music in games can do and be.
The operatic feeling is definitely intentional, because the game uses a play-within-a-game narrative device to hit you over the head with its themes in a way that is somehow poignant and artful while also being extremely blatant. That is a hard balance to strike, but it manages. The whole game is like that: it is completely straightforward and tells you exactly what it's about at heart, but it does it beautifully.
At any rate, I was enamored with this intro and had a very fun time, but I wasn't obsessed or anything and ended up putting it down. I spent several months on the first half of disk 1 with weeks passing between play sessions. I liked the game plenty, but life stuff happened and I decided to get obsessed with Dai Gyakuten Saiban and Ghost Trick for a while. No regrettis.
It was already clear, though, that FFIX was going to be special to me. My compositions for my team's game in the Global Game Jam in 2021 were directly inspired by FFIX's opera-like intro. I wrote two character themes for our game that would serve as background music when you play as the two protagonists, coloring your journey differently even when moving in the same spaces. I was intentionally trying to mimic the way music is used in FFIX as an exercise. The themes I wrote are definitely some of my strongest work so far.
(You can check out the game here if you want, I promise it is significantly shorter than Final Fantasy IX.)
"Melodies of Life"
Music caused me to pick up FFIX the first time, and music caused me to return to it. After months of not touching or really thinking about it, just earlier this week I was inspired to play it again, because - again - I listened to the right song at the right time.
I was again mourning the loss of something, in this case a friendship, for reasons I'm not going to share here. I had already heard the song "Melodies of Life" because it came up when I was looking up FFIX songs to reblog on Tumblr a few months ago, and I decided to listen to it again. Even without knowing the game context, the song itself really spoke to me in that moment: "a voice from the past, joining yours and mine, adding up the layers of harmony" - it kind of made me feel at peace with the fact that I had a lot of positive memories of that friendship and I could keep those at heart while also moving on in the present. ...I'm also a sucker for music metaphors, so there is that.
I was really moved by this song, cheesy as it is, and I was also definitely in the mood for a distraction. Picking up FFIX again felt like the best move.
It was, and my life is forever changed.
The game never stopped being beautiful and funny and touching, and the soundtrack never ceased to amaze. I recognized concepts I've seen in other games but never had I seen them used so artfully. I adored the fantasy world and non-human cast, I found myself enticed by random encounter for the first time because it made me feel like I had to struggle to survive a difficult journey. Music, gameplay, visuals, and story felt like one cohesive work of art for the entire duration.
Life circumstances got me to play the game again, but the game itself was so captivating and wonderful that I binged the entire rest of it - disks 2-4 - in less than a week. Everything else that the game had to say, it told me itself, in its own context, and I was ready to listen.
"You're Not Alone!"
This is going to make me sound like an emotionally-stunted twenty-something, but it has been years since a work of media has got me to have a really good cry. I used to cry playing games all the time as a kid but recently I'll find myself getting emotional, sure, often tearing up, but getting completely red-faced and snot-nosed because I physically cannot contain the emotions being evoked by a work? Years. I can't honestly tell you the last time it happened with certainty.
I feel like an emotional band-aid has been ripped off. I was f*cking sobbing during the entire duration of the "You're Not Alone!" sequence. It didn't matter that what was happening was obviously coming from a mile away, because the delivery was so raw and emotional and human!!! A whole game's worth of Swaggy punching first and asking questions later to save his friends, being Protag McProtag endangering himself for others in any and all circumstances, for the payoff of all of his friends forcing him to stop being such a primadonna and let them help him for once. It's true, too! He relies on them just as much as they rely on him! And the game doesn't just tell you this, no, it lets you try to solo all these fights and waits until you realize how boned you are until they come bail you out.
When Bitchin showed up with her "looks like you need a hand" I wanted to straight up yell at my tv. YES I DO!!! YES I DO NEED YOU BITCHIN!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!! I half knew that SWOOORD was going to heal me before I got truly KO-ed but I had been unmercifully wiped in "unwinnable" battles before in this game, so I legit thought I might have to re-do that whole part of the game again, and I was so relieved and thankful when she showed up and healed me.
This moment exemplifies everything that I adore about this game. It doesn't just tell you its story. It shows it to you, it sings it to you, and it and lets you play it out and feel it for yourself.
"Game Over"
This song is all too familiar to me. Gizamaluke's Grotto was very unforgiving for a first-time Final Fantasy player, especially one who didn't happen to pick up Big on the way for a fourth party member early on.
I hadn't heard the piano part in a few months, though, because when I picked the game back up I started just mashing to reload before it got to that point any time we wiped. I didn't hear it again until the game was truly over, this time for good.
I let it play for a while. Not too long, because I have a CRT TV and didn't want "The End" to get burned in. But a while. Enough to meditate on what I'd just experienced, and how I was feeling about it.
There's so much more to say about the game, far more than I could put in a blog post. But I don't think I need to describe these thoughts in words. I can do what the game did, and use music, use art, use stories, use metaphors, and use symbols to communicate what I mean; and hope that someone else is able and willing to listen.
And although a written record of my thoughts likely won't be preserved for all that long, maybe the feelings and the memories will be, so long as they have been shared.

my guess on if the boxers went to jail or not
i just feel like making this right now, enjoy
Glass joe - hes gotten into some fights but he usually loses them, ending up in him causing people to go to jail because theres no evidence thats clearer than a thousand bruises and a few broken bones
Von Kaiser - got framed for a robbery once but got proven innocent, not much other than that
Disco Kid - got some noise complaints for blasting his music a bit too loud during a party + some speeding tickets but hes clean other than that
King Hippo - public indecency issues thanks to his pants but got over that pretty quickly
Piston Hondo - hes a tad bit paranoid about laws & police so hes squeaky clean (for now)
Bear Hugger - went to court for having "illegal pets" And had to explain how mrs bear was his trainer and his Squirrel was a motivational speaker, they somehow accepted it
Great Tiger - also a careful with laws but has been pulled over for speeding, he actually hasnt had to get any fines or tickets since he teleports away as soon as he stops his car when getting pulled over
Don Flamenco - got into some fights during his teenage years, specifically with carmen's ex, he got into a nasty fight and had to stay in jail for a while
Aran Ryan - oh boy. Has been in jail for basically everything in every age, from sneaking into places hes not supposed to be in to kidnapping his pet mountain lion back from authorities, hes been to jail multiple times and usually gets anyone around him thrown into jail as well
Soda Popinski - No, but is on thin ice for his shady soda business and so are his doctors
Bald Bull - multiple times, actually! Usually from assault thanks to him attacking the paparazzi, had to be bailed out by macho mans 39 lawyers
Super Macho Man - his 39 lawyers will not let that happen, but if he didnt have said 39 lawyers he would be in jail and be swimming in fines
Mr Sandman - wrecking a entire building is sure to get some attention, specifically from the law, hes squeaky clean other than that

So uhhhhh I got to urge to pull a bunch of clipart together to make a Pokémon team for Héctor? (And I tried with the scales, I think they’re pretty close based on Héctor being like 6″? I don’t actually know his height hahaaa...)
Braviary - I imagine this one was only recently evolved from a Rufflet, specifically once he regained his place in the Rivera family. Reflective of the “Papa Wolf” in him that can leap out when his family is in danger.
Combusken - Aside from a friend and I’s “Panchito is his alebrije” thing, this hints at the humble origins he probably had in childhood. Imagine a smol Héctor finding a little Torchic and taking him in. Probably his first partner.
Cubone - According to an article I found, the bones of ancestors are very important within a tribe of these guys. That just fits, doesn’t it? Reflective of Héctor’s softer paternal side. You know he took this lonely baby in because he just needed someone.
Maractus - One of his two musical partners, and one he probably found on the outskirts of Santa Cecilia in her natural environment. Her maraca-like sounds are a great accompaniment to his guitar!
Oricorio - His other musical partner. His dancing girl! While the “Baile style” is based off of flamenco dancing, I can easily see there being a similar variation more based on folklorio, a similar style of dance in Mexico with similar gowns. She’s a gorgeous reminder of home.
Rattata (Alolan) - Small, yes, but feisty and ready to rip. Probably a friend  Héctor picked up in his long years trying to sneak his way past the bridge. An accomplice, co-conspirator, and partner in crime! Reflective of his trickster side.

¡Gracias!
