I Hate Mars

Ayshe considered herself a patient person.

She knew just how long to wait in hiding before hunting, she didn’t mind watching 25 kids for hours at a time, even when they insisted on braiding her hair (“Anna taught me! Isn’t it pretty Ayshe?” sure.), she lived in the same house as the man who killed her father for years now and still hadn’t lifted a finger to hurt him (setting her dogs to take his dinner didn’t count, and besides, it made Gilda laugh), but really this was too much.

“What.”

“Isn’t Mars sweet, Ayshe?” cooed Sherry, gesturing to the hairy beast in Gilda’s arms.

“You named that thing?”

“You name your dogs,” pointed out Don.

She shook her head. Her dogs were useful: they could hunt, scare Norman, keep guard, scare Norman, drag heavyweight, kill (not Norman, not yet). But a cat?

“He won’t get in your way, I promise,” said Gilda, smiling sweetly, and Ayshe couldn’t say much else to that.

Gilda stayed true to her word. Every morning, without fail, she brushed that thing’s matted hair, gave it a bow for some reason, fed it something out of a can instead of letting it hunt, cut its nails, and of course, kept it out of Ayshe’s way.

At the end of every week, when the children went on one of their long trips and returned, predictably, empty-handed, Ayshe watched with bemusement as Gilda held that thing close to her for hours at a time.

“Mars doesn’t have to be useful, you know,” said Ray, who had been watching her eyebrows raise higher and higher after one of those trips.

“It doesn’t do anything.”

“It doesn’t have to. Gilda likes it because it shuts up and follows her around when she’s upset.”

“She has 43 siblings.”

“Yeah, but those don’t ever shut up,” said Ray fondly.

“I have 3 dogs. She didn’t need to get a cat to keep her company.”

“Sounds like you’re jealous.”

Sounds like you need to keep your mouth shut.

Lifting herself off the dogs curled around her, Ayshe manoeuvred herself around the crowded household into Gilda’s room.

As always, she was hunched at a corner of her bed, her arms wrapped around the thing - Mars.

“Oh-hello Ayshe!” she said, startled but not unwelcome.

“Hello.”

Gilda likes it because it shuts up when she’s upset.

Tucking her knees underneath her, Ayshe stared silently at Gilda. 

“Did you…want something from me?”

She shook her head. It works for the beast but not her?

And suddenly, Gilda burst into tears. What the hell, Mars?

“I’m sorry - it’s just Anna wants to go to medical school and money’s still thin and I know Norman and Ray are working but I want to help out but the only thing I can do is help with searching but we haven’t found a single lead and Alicia, Phil and Yvette are upset and Don’s upset so I can’t be upset in front of them, and it’s Violet’s birthday next week and I haven’t planned anything and Eugene’s allergic to mangoes now,” she sobbed.

“…Staying away from mango peel helps with allergies,” was about the most useful thing Ayshe could come up with.

Gilda stared at her. And without warning, laughed. Had she said something funny?

“You’re right, Ayshe. There’s so much less to worry about in this world and I’m worried about…allergies?” she chuckled, wiping at her eyes.

Ayshe didn’t think she had said anything even remotely related to worrying.

“Would you like to hold Mars?”

No.

“Okay,” said Ayshe, holding out her arms.

It - Mars - began to purr, nuzzling it’s fat, orange head against her shoulder.

“I can…fish for Mars. You’d save money on his food that way,” she offered.

Gilda blinked at her, surprise evident on her face.

“And my dogs don’t forget a single scent. They might help with your search. I don’t know anything about birthdays but - “

Gilda cut her off, wrapping her arms around her shoulders.

“Thank you,” she said, lacing her fingers through Ayshe’s hand.

Ayshe wondered if her chest had stopped working, whether it was normal for her heart to squeeze in on itself this way. She didn’t trust herself to speak, her ears flushing red for some strange reason.

A loud hiss from Mars, from being pressed in on from both sides, broke them apart (what the hell, Mars?) the cat darting out of Ayshe’s arms, out into the hallway.

“Mars!” yelled Gilda, chasing after him, Ayshe on her heels.

They had lost track of him, amidst the clutter of the children-filled household.

A loud meow, a series of loud sneezes, and an even louder laugh from Ray pulled them both into the kitchen.

“Oh hello, Gilda! Ayshe - ” began Norman warily. And then, sneezed.

“Sorry - ach-choo! - I think I’m - ACH-CHOO!” Curled around Norman’s legs, quite unbothered by the sneezing was a very relaxed Mars.

“You’re - ” gasped Ray, clutching at his sides, “you’re allergic to cats?!” his words punctuated with laughter.

Norman didn’t seem to find the situation quite as entertaining. Sniffling, he beckoned for Gilda to take the cat away.

Chuckling herself, Gilda scooped Mars up into her arms again.

“Sorry, Norman! It won’t happen again!” It absolutely will.

Together, Gilda and Ayshe walked out of the kitchen, Ray still laughing, Norman still sneezing.

Ayshe smirked, running her hand along Mars’ back.

Maybe having a cat around wasn’t such a bad idea after all…

I love Ayshe’s backstory it made me tear up honestly. The thought of that demon actually loving her and caring for her. And actually being a father figure , teaching her how to read and speak is heartwarming. But bummed that she wants to kill Norman and the others !

On the other hand I have a feeling that Ayshe was asked to assist Don and Gilda only to kill them when they find Musica and Sonju. I can’t see Norman having any motive for killing them but the way Ayshe was presented. As in a lot of hesitation and looking questionable, just made me spiral LOL .

But kinda think that Ayshe will help Don and Gilda with their plan . Unless fear of Norman and his team arises in her making her believe she needs to do whatever job she’s been given or else she will be killed...

Don’t hold me on any of these “theories” because they lowkey don’t make sense - just needed to put my thoughts out there lol .

But honestly I just want all off them to live happily ever after ... is that too much to ask (◞‸◟) ?!

This chapter got me scared af. But I’m really invested now with the journey of Don and Gilda! —(´°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥ω°̥̥̥̥̥̥̥̥｀)

I won't say anything about their sexualities because they're children. I know they're teenagers in the finale arc but i never really thought about it so, i dont even have an answer for that

First headcanon that pops into my head: (spoilers) when they reuinited at the human world, she was curious about why they all had similar tattoos on their necks. They tried to explain i guess but she felt like she was being left out on something and you know how much she hates that. So she wanted to get a tattoo for herself too, Norman said that it wasn't necessary and their tattoos didn't have a nice meaning so she really doesn't need to do that but then Emma went to Ray and being the best bro that he is he took her to a tattoo shop with fake ids and she got a 63194 tattoo. Norman wasn't really surprised

Things that give me second hand embarrassment about this character: Honestly nothing. I love everything about her

The Promised Neverland: 8.5/10 from me Recommended: YES.

Going to leave the title as that cause the rest honestly isn’t really a review.

Another ending manga. Another complete story. I see people have mixed opinion about the ending. Personally, well...I'll be honest, I feel disappointed. But objectively? It's perfect. That's such a hypocrite statement, but that one honestly is my own fault.

Lately, I always feel like I delved into this series with the wrong expectation. I expected a thrilling mind games like Death Note or some fantasy action like Hunter x Hunter. What I got from The Promised Neverland ends up an adventurous journey with a clear goal, similar to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (going with the Brotherhood version since I haven’t watched the previous one).

More plot-driven and less character-focused, those are the similarities that I see between FMAB and TPN (if you’ve been longer in the anime fandom, you’d know that FMA/FMAB is one of great “classic” series).

Looking back at it, everything was neat (and gives very similar feel to FMAB). The suspense of the build-up conflict, the twists of truth along the way, the long-awaited climax, and the slowed down pace leading to end. It feels like everything's been neatly planned.

Nothing's perfect. Some mysteries remain unsolved. But the main plot and moral point stay strong until the very end. It's the those things, I think, that makes The Promised Neverland such a "neat" story.

I'm still staying in the fandom so I won't be saying any good-byes, lol. Overall, though, it's been a fun journey.

RayEmma is not my main ship, but honestly? CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW ICONIC THIS SCENE WOULD BE IF IT GETS ANIMATED??

This one’s my favorite panel. Honest to God if I wasn’t reading this in the middle of dead night, I’d totally be cackling out loud. Btw, I’m still very curious about what Norman really said to Ayshe back then (is it “pLeAsE dOn’T kIlL mE yEt”? Lol.

I’m not really an artist to judge. But this one panel, all these glorious details, ahh Posuka really made an impact with her art.

Favorite thing about her: Mh she's such a cool girl. It doesn't have much to do with her personality, but I like how she was used storytelling wise, as a mean to show that demons - even human eating demons - can be as caring and sweet and kind as any other human begin; the fact that a different character besides from Emma saw the "humanity" in demons was really important, as was her taking sides against Norman - that was, anyway, a very interesting plot twist on its own.

This stuff make my favorite thing about her, but if it has to be about her personality, then I think she's really cool!!!! I don't know she seems like a very interesting character with grey morals it would have been very nice to know more about (sighs)

Also, her character design is definitely another of my favorite things about her. She's stunning!!

Least favorite thing about her: You see it's just,,, there's so many interesting characters in this series and they all look like having so much p o t e n t i a l,,,,,, like every single of them would be worthy of a spin-off of their own. I get that it really wasn't possible to deepen more characters within only 181 chapters, but still it is kinda sad to see all these great characters being introduced and then like, forgotten about as soon as they stop being relevant to the plot.

OTP: Pretty much same as above? Though I think I prefer their plaonic dynamics.

nOTP: Uhm. Pretty much every other ship lol. You see, I consider Ayshe as someone who doesn't trust anyone; Gilda and Don have earned her trust in the sweetest, healthiest way possible; I really like the idea of them being the only people she really trusts, and who she actually feels safe being around. I believe they would help her get closer with the others, but she would never have with them what she has with Gilda and Don, as those two are the first humans she sincerely trusted, and loved.

Unpopular opinion: 🤔

I don't know if this counts as unpopular but: it actually bothers me tons not to know her age?? And I've never seen anyone talk about it. I don't know maybe it's not that relevant, but I think it heavily influences what her dynamics with the other characters might be like.

Random headcanon:

Ok I know according to the last chapter she becomes some sort of dog breeder but I have been thinking? Cool detective Ayshe? You know, like the one who never misses a shot? Maybe someone specialized in finding people (she uses her dogs!!!). Also I mean take a moment to imagine AYSHE IN A FRENCH COAT AKDNBFJSKSNDBSJSJBDBDNZBX

Once in the human world she moves in with Gilda and Don (yes I really like this ship- you wouldn't tell would you). They often have movie nights; her favorite genre is the apocalyptic horror one: she loves pointing out how badly prepared the protagonists are, and laugh at how much they lack practical survival skills (she can be heard saying “those freaks wouldn't survive a day in the demon's world” once every few minutes). The only time she actually got moved, and even shead a few tears, was when the dog from I Am Legend died; both Gilda and Don know they can never address the matter with anyone if they want to stay alive (but wouldn't have done that anyway because they're swell guys)

I made that post before hayato’s canon age was revealed…and also I only shipped them for like a week before I liked gilda x ayshe better lol
