Listen, I never said Bones and All was a GREAT film, but it's all the crumbs I get for my very particular trauma induced media interests:
For those of you who feel that, I think some things that are also included in this are:
Stoker, directed by Park Chan-wook (2013)
Raw, directed by Julia Ducournau (2016)
Bones and All, written by Camille DeAngelis (2015, please read the book. I don't hate what Guadagnino did, but he completely missed the point)
Ethel Cain (Music)
Nicole Dollanganger (Music)
Aeseaes (Music)
Flatsound (Music)
Axel St. Patience (Music)
Johanna Warren (Music)
Chloe Moriondo (Music)
Novo amor (music)
Coma Cinema (Music)
The Eyes of My Mother, directed by Nicolas Pesce (2016)
Sylvia Plath (Author/Poet)
Virginia Woolf (Author/Poet)
Wuthering Heights, written by Emily Bronte (1847)
Carmilla, written by Sheridan Le Fanu (1872)
The Life She was Given, written by Ellen Maria Wiseman (2017)
I can not put heavy enough trigger warnings on this content:
Triggers include SA, Eating Disorders, abuse, cptsd, generational trauma, cannibalism, gore, animal death, grief, regression, human death. Not many of these have happy endings.

Miasmaaaa buddyyyy if you've not answered those yet (gonna copy the questions here cause not on mobile): "🎢 Which of your fics would you call your wildest ride?", "🛠What tools/programs/apps do you use to write?", "❌ What's a trope you will never write?", "💞 Who's your comfort character?", "🤩 Who is your favorite character to write?", and "🎉 What leads you to consider a fic a success?"
HI HUKKA THANKS FOR ASKINGGG
This is gonna be long lol.
🎢 - I mean...I wanna say the sweat fic just because I felt completely unhinged writing it, but overall I think it has to be Permafrost. It went through maybe...seven iterations before I was happy with the final product? I think? I'm good with where it ended up, but getting there was a JOURNEY.
🛠 - I write in google docs now, which is a blessing because I can write on my phone during work hours! Love that for me. I also use the Hemingway app to keep my adverb use under moderate control and Grammarly for my punctuation abuse. Massive shoutout to @st-danger for introducing me to both of those (ilu Saint).
❌ - Depends on what you mean by trope. Given that I mostly write smut, I do have a handful of things that are on my hard no list. But in terms of literary tropes? Hmm...as much as I enjoy it, probably enemies to lovers. Love to read it, don't have the patience to write it. At least not yet.
💞 - Currently? Tie between Dew and Aether. I need them to hug me and also ruin my life (positive). In general, like, ever? Probably Axel from Kingdom Hearts lmao. What an embarrassing answer that is.
🤩 - Precious widdle Dewdrop, despite how much I make him cry. I project parts of myself onto all of the ghouls, as I think most of us do, and he gets the brunt of that. Rough for him, GREAT for me. Swiss is a very close second though, I'm having a ton of fun with him in a couple of my WIPs!
🎉 - This is an interesting thing to consider. I have severe imposter syndrome. I still can't believe people enjoy reading the stuff I write, in all honesty. Positive feedback is something I have a very hard time with (trauma lmao) and trying to convince my silly little brain that people have no reason to lie about enjoying my writing is a PROCESS. Every time I get a positive comment or an unhinged series of tags on one of my stories, it makes my chest hurt in the best way. So for now...I'd say I define a successful fic as one people clearly enjoy despite my neuroses.

tagged by @leonzhng ♥ thank you!! I loved it that your songs were all just basically from osts :’D it’s so cool and sweet somehow~
-> rules: you can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to! put your favourite playlist on shuffle and list the first 10 songs, then tag 10 people. no skipping
last time I used my mess of a playlist titled “everything”. this time I will go with the one called “untamed crying hours” (I will exclude the cql ost songs from this ok cool)
I. Remnants of Departed Days - Owsey x  (I think I could drown into all of Owsey’s instrumentals, they are all just so emotional and pretty) II. Three - Sleeping at Last x (my ultimate JC character song) III. Walk Through the Fire - Zayde Wølf ft. Ruelle x (something of a yun bros theme song am I right?) IV. La Lune - Billie Marten x (just very sweet and mellow, perfect for writing) V. Every Piece of Me - Illenium ft. Echos x (I am so deeply in love with both Illenium and Echos that it’s no wonder that I absolutely adore this collaboration) VI. Losing You - Wonho x (this song makes me so happy despite being so sad) VII. Kill Me with Your Touch - Axel St. Patience x (something for those heavy moments of wangxian being angsty, longing gays during burial mounds) IIX. Last Chance (Alternate Version) - CHPTRS x (one of my xicheng theme songs, don’t ask me why. this song has inspired me a lot) IX. new light - NIve x (one of those songs that clicked with me on the first listen. I cried. pls click on the lyrics) X. Judging Books by Their Covers - Keaton Henson x (another xicheng theme song bc this pretty much summarizes their feeling for me)
thank you for making me remember all of my feelings I have for this story again ♥
I want to tag: @actualmichelle @kholran @imlikemoony @lzswy @ashenwren @lan-xichens (sorry these are very random but if you see this, I wanted to just say hi! no need to get into this if you don’t want to)

Ah, his quiet days were feathers without hurry, moving this way and that in the air, happy to change direction according to the wind. Just as the feather will in its own sweet time be at rest upon the earth, so the sun will rise and set high in the sky. Yet in each gifted moment between them, there is such freedom, an infinitely branching path with no paths at all. And in that complete liberty there is a need for the calm kind of patience, the one that is content to await the path to glow, to show itself worthy of adventure, of curiosity, of enchantment.
Axel can honestly say that those days were his salve, a chance for the spinning top of ideas, that carousel of duties to slow and occasionally stop. It was as if he had truly been given the day, and he could bow to the way the world is, this insane notion that to relax one has to do nothing or be pampered... or do what he really loved. Axel thought of those days as if God had granted him a button to stop the world for a day, so that he could breathe and have the serenity of wakeful rest.
Of course it has been years since he seen his dad but he had to carry on his father’s work- researching SOULS. And of course the most important job though... taking care of his little brother but work got in the way sometimes. BUT nothing of that matters now because it was his sixteenth birthday!
And of course that was a reason to be happy, right? Yes, of course it was! Axel walked in the room where his smaller brother was waiting.
The music was so loud that it made his lungs feel like mush. The bass thumped in time with his heart beat as though they were one, filling the skeleton from head to toe with music. Seeing his brother so happy though, brought a grin to Axel’s face. He was glad that he was enjoying himself. Over the roar of music, a distant, hazy chatter could be heard. He couldn’t make out any words, but laughter rang in his earholes and wouldn’t seem to stop. The song that was playing got louder, pulling him in and wouldn’t let go. Axel had no choice but to join the crowd, jumping in a huddled group like Tic-Tacs being shaken in a box.
It was a blast- cake, drinks, dancing. Everything that was at a party. It was there but Axel felt himself being pulled into his room by his brother... Well lucky for him the party was over- almost anyway.
“HEY BROTHER, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! SORRY TO DRAG YOU AWAY LIKE THIS BUT I WANTED TO GIVE YOUR GIFT IN PRIVATE...”
Axel blinked for a moment but spoke up. “Bro it’s fine, so where is this ‘gift’ of yours?”
“RIGHT HERE-!” Lucis- his Papyrus laughed bringing a small box from behind his back.
Axel couldn’t help to let a slight chuckle escape and he took it and opened the box. It was the jacket that he would wear years after this event would happen.
It was nice until one topic came up- their dad. It still hurt the younger skeleton as Lucis started to snap at the birthday boy. Yet reason why their father was gone was Axel’s fault-
“I-...Bro, I said I’m sorry- Y’know I didn’t mean to..”
“BUT NOTHING AXEL, HE IS GONE! AND IT’S YOUR FAULT!”
“Luci- please don’t do this, it wasn’t-”
“I DON’T WANT TO HEAR IT...”
The argument was cold. Every word over pronounced, slicing rather than tumbling through the dry air. The love hadn't gone, it had been distorted into a close mimic of hatred; and just as love endures, so would the wall of bitterness that separated them, growing more thorns every day- in secret or not...
Axel suddenly tried to calm his brother by how he always did but the younger brother just pushed Axel away to the point of the skeleton fall back with a grunt then he looked up at them- shocked.
“YOU KNOW WHAT AXEL? I SOMETIMES WISH I WASN’T YOUR BROTHER BUT I AM. AND HONESTLY I REGRET BEING THAT.” Lucis hissed looking down at Axel, who was trying to get up slowly. “Y’KNOW WHAT- YOU DON’T DESERVE MY GIFT-” They tried to snatch the jacket away but Axel swat his hand away FINALLY standing up. With a huff of great annoyance the other pulled his hand away. “UGH- WHATEVER I’M OUT AND AXEL? WE ARE OVER...”
“W-wait what? No bro- don’t do this. I can’t los-lose you too, please... not you too- I-..”
“TOO BAD- GOODBYE AXEL..”
Tumblr media
And that was when Axel could feel his heart break, he didn’t- he didn’t mean it right? Well that was confirmed by Lucis walking out of the room and leaving Axel there. He gripped onto the jacket so tightly despite the fact that his palms where sore and burned. Axel’s nails dug deep onto the corroded strings of their relationship to give himself a better grasp- but...
Barely able to keep his own head up tears started to flow. With glowing, red cheeks and salty screaming tears streaming down his face. This moment had been something to avoid; that should have been history. The skeleton was shaking- weak... so weak that he just fell to the floor again- screaming between sobs. Only accompanied by guilt and grief Axel stayed there. “Stupid, Stupid- st-stupid!” Axel muttered through his own tears, using all his willpower and self-control to not just scream and sob as louder as he could. “Why- why... why did I-”
His words casing spikes of soreness and grief throughout every inch of his being. Biting his own tongue inside his cheeks. Hating immediately what he said and this tightness in Axel’s throat that threatened to suffocate all the air from Axel’s lungs...
“I-I..I’m sorry..”
Axel Unfortunately, being in a state where even the most comforting of words couldn't reach him.. so he just cried.

PROMPT: write something based on the song you’re listening to within the time limit of the song
RESULTS:
Almost Had To Start A Fight / In & Out Of Patience - Parquet Courts
Staring into the bright glare of the midday sun, Spence dropped his skateboard. Police sirens blared nearby. They weren’t coming for him. Kira had a roller derby practice that night. She wasn’t going to skip for Spence’s house show later that night. Sometimes he wondered if they should just break up at this point -- she wasn’t coming over anymore. Said his apartment smelled like trash and he and Axel needed to get their act together before they were evicted. And anyway, if Axel got one more noise violation, there would be charges.
The District Sleeps Alone Tonight - The Postal Service
Valencia couldn’t even cry as she wandered through the halls of her quaint little yellow house. It was supposed to just be a semester in St Petersburg. This wasn’t supposed to happen. She wanted to call Andy, ask if everything’s alright, send him a meme or just get a response. But she couldn’t. He wouldn’t see it. Matt would get the call, or the text, or be the one texting back. Andy’s parents were flying out that night. He won’t know they’re there. Valencia didn’t want any more photos. She knew she would be getting some. It was just morbid curiosity, just wanting to see what had happened. Matt’s voice was tired the next time he called -- when was the last time he felt? Did he think it was his fault that everything happened the way it did? It wasn’t. It wasn’t anyone’s fault. Valencia couldn’t help but feel a tinge of guilt, herself.
The Record Player Song - Daisy the Great
Chuck slammed the door of her forest green pickup truck and headed down the road. She flicked on the radio. Was it wrong for her to be hanging out with Lavender without Valencia and Kira around? Would Valencia think it’s her fault again? It wasn’t her fault. She should know, if anyone.
Gold Lion - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Valencia has finally dragged Andy to the skatepark. He was wearing a sweatshirt, even though it was July, and within the ten minutes it took to drive to the skatepark, it had already accumulated a small stain right under Andy’s chin. We should figure something out to fix that.
————
So yeah! Hope you enjoyed that, glad to be writing again 🥰

The Chase Files Daily Newscap 10/21/2019
Good Morning #realdreamchasers. Here is your daily news cap for Monday, October 21st, 2019. There is a lot to read and digest so take your time. Remember you can read full articles via Barbados Government Information Service (BGIS), Barbados Today (BT), or by purchasing a Daily Nation Newspaper (DN).
BUT CHIDS GOVERNMENT – THE BARBADOS UNION OF TEACHERS (BUT) is dissatisfied with what it says is Government’s lack of response to the viral outbreaks affecting teachers and students across the island. Following a service at the Ann Gill Memorial Methodist Church yesterday to mark the start of Teachers Week, BUT president Sean Spencer said he was not seeing the desired level of communication or cooperation.“The issue is, we’re not hearing from either ministry (Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health) about best practices in this situation. You’d think they’d be working together,” he said. (DN)
ON BOARD – Many commuters are hopping on board the plan to place GPS devices on public service vehicles (PSVs). In both the Constitution River and Cheapside terminals yesterday, passengers spoke about the rowdy behaviour on some PSVs and welcomed the news that some form of monitoring system was in the works. “That sounds like something which will bring some discipline which is much needed. Maybe they should also include something to detect when they smoking [marijuana] and drinking [alcohol]. “My problem is these ideas start but then don’t continue, so I hope this follows through,” said Andrea Grazette, adding she also liked the idea of a mobile app. (DN)
TAXI OPERATORS TO GET THEIR DUE – Taxi operators in Barbados have been told that too long they  have accepted the crumbs of three or five per cent of the gains from the tourism industry and that they will be “plugged into the visitors’ economy”. That message of hope was delivered by the Minister of Tourism and International Business, Kerrie Symmonds as he gave a feature address to the Bridgetown Port Taxi Co-op Society Ltd’s 30th anniversary dinner at the Copcabana on Bay Street, St Michael, Saturday night. “Your history is one of struggle. But your 30-year celebration is one of diligence, the dedication to duty, the hard work of all of you who have made the co-op what it is today . . . . “The social and economic injustice which you guys have gone through 30 years ago must be seen as behind you and you must be plugged into the visitors’ economy.  When you have 255 operators at the Bridgetown Port, you cannot accept that between three to five per cent of the cruise ship business goes to the 255 people. Then who is getting all of the rest?” asked Symmonds. (DN)
FINANCE MINISTER LEADS DELEGATION TO IMF, WORLD BANK ANNUAL MEETINGS -  Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Ryan Straughn, led Barbados’ delegation to the just-concluded International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank Annual Meetings in Washington, DC from October 14 to 20. The delegation included the Governor of the Central Bank of Barbados (Alternate Governor of the IMF), Cleviston Haynes; the Director of Finance and Economic Affairs (Alternate Governor of the World Bank), Ian Carrington; and other officials from the Finance Ministry and the Central Bank of Barbados. While in Washington, the Barbadian delegation attended the Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ Meeting and participated in the Caribbean Caucus Meeting facilitated by the World Bank Managing Director of Operations, Axel van Trotsenburg. The delegation also met with Kristalina Georgieva, the IMF Managing Director, and Tao Zhang the IMF Deputy Managing Director, and participated in the Small States Forum with United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, and World Bank President, David Malpass. Aside from the obligatory meetings of the IMF and the World Bank, the delegation held bilateral discussions with partner countries, financial institutions and private sector investors. The Minister also held talks with the external creditor committee to wrap up the debt negotiations that led to the in principle settlement of the external commercial debt restructuring. Minister Straughn thanked the members of the committee for their patience and their continued commitment to Barbados, as the deal allows the Mia Mottley administration to put the country’s public debt on a sustainable trajectory and to restore macroeconomic fundamentals. The Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group and the IMF bring together Ministers of Finance, central bankers, development partners, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organizations and academics, to discuss issues of global concern, especially the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness. REDUCED PUMPING AT DESALINATION PLANT MAY CAUSE LOW LEVELS – Ionics Freshwater Inc is advising the public that it has been forced to reduce pumping at its desalination plant because of technical issues being experienced on Sunday. The reduction in pumping from this facility on the Mighty Grynner Highway MAY result in low levels to customers of the Barbados Water Authority (BWA) in some parts of St Michael, St James, St Peter and St Thomas. This situation is currently receiving the attention of the plant’s engineers. The BWA will service any affected customers via water tanker as a temporary measure. Ionics Freshwater Inc apologizes for any inconvenience caused. (BT)

HOLDER: PHIL CAN DO IT – West Indies skipper Jason Holder has thrown his full support behind newly appointed head-coach Phil Simmons. Bursting with confidence after leading the Barbados Tridents to their second Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20 trophy, Holder says he is optimistic about once again working with the former test player. Simmons, who was announced head coach of the regional side last week on a four-year contract by Cricket West Indies (CWI) in a media statement, played an integral role in the Tridents reaping CPL supremacy. In an exclusive interview with NATION SPORT, Holder who was recently relieved of the limited over captaincy, said he is anticipating improved performances from his team under Simmons. “I’ve worked with Phil on numerous occasions before. He has obviously been the coach of the West Indies team and he just won a title here with the Barbados Tridents. Phil and I have a really good relationship and I expect good things from him,” Holder said. (DN)
EASY 7-0 WIN FOR BDFSP – Rashad Jules’ hat-trick was the standout performance on Saturday night as his Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) side easily brushed aside Abrahams United Silver Sands 7-0 in their Group 3 football game at the start of the Capelli Cup Championship stage at the Wildey Turf. Nicholas Best also contributed a brace to the BDFSP cause to send a resounding message to the other teams about their serious intentions. In the opening game, Crane & Equipment Ellerton secured a hard-fought 2-0 win over Pride of Gall Hill, courtesy of well-timed goals by Damien Walcott and Shaquan Clarke. For the first 20 minutes, Silver Sands dealt admirably with the challenge posed by the Defence Force. An error in the defensive ranks in the 24th minute allowed Best to sneak in the box and head home from close range following the mix-up.  (DN)
NATIONAL LIBRARY SERVICE ADAPTING TO CHANGING WORLD – The National Library Service is adjusting its mandate to meet the demands of a swiftly changing world, Minister of the Creative Economy, Culture and Sports, John King said. On Sunday, the National Library Service commenced celebrations for the organisation’s 172nd anniversary, where King showered library officials with praise for being a gateway to knowledge and culture in society. “The resources and services they offer create opportunities for learning, support literacy and help to shape the new ideas and perspectives that are central to the creative and innovative society. They also help to ensure effective record of knowledge created and accumulated by past generations,” he said. “In a world without libraries, it would be difficult to advance research and preserve the world’s cumulative knowledge and heritage for future generations. Whatever the cost of our libraries, it’s cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.” The Culture Minister reflected on the year, 1847 which saw the Public Library Act passed. He however pointed out that since then, demands on the National Library Service have transformed from providing physical books to internet access, mobile service to assist schools in rural communities, photocopying, outreach initiatives, audio books for the visually impaired and access to e-books among other services. He said library officials remained cognizant of the age of technology and are attempting to move Barbadians toward digital literacy by facilitating a number of discussions on key topics. “In the near future, the library plans to host presentations on technological issues such as block chain, cyber security and social media. I encourage you to listen out for these events and support them with your presence,” King urged.(BT)
HEALTHY ST. ALBANS – The students at St Alban’s Primary prefer to drink water more than anything else. In fact, when the boys and girls of the St James-based institution are feeling thirsty they quickly find the water-cooler, a tap, or buy bottled water, or reach into their school bags for the water they brought from home. Hundreds of bottled water are sold at the school weekly. According to principal Wendine Prince, the students do not have other choices since the school banned the sale of carbonated beverages in 2016 when she took up the leadership position. Two brands of juices that have low sugar content are only sold on Thursdays. “When I came here, what I observed was that children were eating very unhealthily. At break time you would see them with all types of sodas, and all types of sweet snacks. “It bothered me because if we do not take care of our children’s health now what will happen to Barbados’ future is that we will have an unproductive society because most of the time people will be ill. “So I decided at the beginning of the school year in 2016-2017 that we are going to stop selling any sodas, or juices which are just as unhealthy as sodas if they are loaded with sugar,” she said. Prince recalled that when she broke the news to teachers at the school that only bottled water would be sold they told her that students would not respond well to the new development since they were accustomed to sweet drinks. “But when we implemented it in 2016, a few weeks after the janitor came back and said ‘Ms Prince, the children are purchasing the water very well.’ And I said to her ‘it would happen because you are now changing the culture’. “So once you start to change the culture, eventually children realize this is what is happening at the school. There are no other alternatives, so we drink water. At times we would sell mauby, and the mauby wasn’t selling as well as the water because they had started getting accustomed to the water,” she said. The principal said that after realizing that not all students had the finances to purchase water daily, she approached an old scholar, Wendy Alleyne, about purchasing a water cooler. The school is now in process of acquiring another water cooler, due to an overwhelming response from students to the first one. “Our objective is to have a water-cooler on each block for the children. Children will change how they eat if we the adults make sure that we are providing them with healthy alternatives. There is a parent who is a nutritionist and I have asked her to provide us with a list of healthy alternatives to the snacks that we were selling to the children. She provided us with that list and we are now working on changing our offerings to the children concerning snacks”. The school is now selling fruits to students on particular days, and according to Prince the response to that initiative has also been overwhelming. The principal said she believes that the school has a greater responsibility than simply teaching academics. She stressed that students must also be taught how to live healthy lifestyles. “It is not the Ministry of Health. We have to lead the role as teachers and we too have to model the behaviour. I have implemented an exercise programme at the school and we also push athletics. “We bought a whole set of skipping ropes and we realize some students can’t skip. In the past, skipping was something that everybody could do, but not now. So we are promoting healthy movement and eating because the two must go together,” Prince said. (BT)
NOW THE CHILDREN CAN PLAY – After ten years of waiting, the students at St Silas Primary, Orange Hill, St Michael finally have a new play park to call their own. On Thursday, participants of the Prince’s Trust International Team Programme who played a significant role in designing the park officially handed over the facility to the school. Principal Sharon Sealy said she was excited when the participants chose St Silas as the place where they wanted to carry out their community project. She said for the past 10 years, the school made several attempts to reopen the facility so the 143 students would have somewhere to play. “But finances was against us. So this opportunity was one we grabbed with both arms because the children wanted it and they were asking all the time ‘ma’am when are we going to get the play park fixed that we can get into it?’ Now we have a brand new play park by the efforts of the young people and that makes it even more special,” Sealy said. The Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF), in conjunction with Prince’s Trust International, a registered charitable organisation in England and Wales, embarked on a partnership to deliver the Team Programme in Barbados. The programme is designed to assist young people between the ages of 16 to 25 who are unemployed or not engaged in any formal aspects of educational or vocational training, and who may be considered “at risk” because of these factors. Team coordinator for the Prince’s Trust International Programme, Sergeant Hallam Jemmott said the BDS$1000 the participants raised through a fundraising effort was added to donations made by business places and individuals. The total cost of the project was over BDS$3000. “For the next two weeks the participants will go into job placements where they will be placed at various business places. That was designed to give them an opportunity to see what the world of work is, to look at their attitude and their aptitude towards work. “The whole idea of the programme is to get them into the world of work. So rather than sitting down home doing nothing you prepare yourself for work” Sergeant Jemmott said. The Sergeant said that while there have been several success stories coming from the Prince’s Trust Programme in Barbados, he was proud to report that at least two graduates have joined the RBPF and others were now working in various sectors.(BT)
MAURICE BISHOP’S UNIQUE REVOLUTION – Today marks the 36th death anniversary of Maurice Rupert Bishop who led New jewel Movement members in the first – and only so far – revolutionary takeover of a government in the English-speaking Caribbean. As was relayed during a recent symposium commemorating the tragedy of Bishop’s death, there are examples of discontent among the populations of many Caribbean countries, but none so provoking as the circumstances in Grenada that saw Bishop and NJM overthrow the administration of prime minister Eric Gairy and establish a People’s Revolutionary Government in 1979 until he was deposed and, along with a number of colleagues, executed by firing squad on October 19, 1983. Head of the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Campus Department of History and Philosophy, Dr Henderson Carter, said that the Grenada revolution is so important that it should warrant a lecture by Professor Brian Meeks (on which Barbados TODAY has already reported) and a symposium as well. “There are generations of young people born after 1979 who have no idea of what happened in Grenada during the 1970s under Eric Gairy, and during the period under Prime Minister Maurice Bishop,” he said in opening remarks in the Cynthia Wilson Arts Lecture Theatre last week. Panellists were retired journalist, Tim Slinger; Chair of Africana Studies at Brown University, Rhode Island, USA, Professor Brian Meeks; Senior Lecturer in Political Science, Cave Hill, Dr Wendy Grenade; and Associate Professor of Caribbean and Diaspora Studies, Arizona State University, USA, Dr David Hinds. Testimony by Grenade,  a Grenadian, of experiences from a pre-teen at the time of the revolution, perhaps more than other historical accounts, pointed to the uniqueness and lasting impact of the 4 ½ years of revolutionary government that ended in a dispute over  the form of party and government leadership needed. That dispute fractured NJM and saw militia of one faction executing Bishop and government ministers Fitzroy Bain, Norris Bain, Evelyn Bullen Jacqueline Creft, Keith Hayling, Evelyn Maitland, and Unison Whiteman. “I was in a ‘Gairyite household, a Pentecostal household, but in the Anglican high school,” she said, adding that, “a contradiction of worlds produced me because at home you would be hearing this revolution is about anti-God. Then you go to school and you’re a 12-year-old little girl and you understanding Apartheid and imperialism in Form One.” Stating that the Anglican high school’s revolutionary education “helped to bring balance to my little mind” she added: “it’s no surprise that a number of us who were high school children during that period, we end up questioning [colonial] empire and we are dealing with issues of social justice”. “Something happened in that period that produced a particular type in me… in many of us.” Hinds listed rebellion in Union Island; protests in Guyana leading to the assassination of Walter Rodney; insurrection that fell a Dominica government; a St Lucia radical vote for change to a leftist government; and revolution in Suriname, all in the 1970s and 1980s, as the influencing atmosphere for Maurice Bishop and the NJM. “All of these rebellions and insurrections were happening in the Caribbean at the same time of the Grenadian revolution.” While endorsing Hinds’ analysis, Professor Meeks offered that causal factors of the Grenada revolution were more and different. Distinguishing between popular upheaval, a revolutionary situation, and a revolution, he said: “in the Anglophone Caribbean, in the 1970s, there was only one revolution. It was the revolution in Grenada”. Meeks, a former lecturer in political theory, comparative politics and Caribbean political thought at four universities in the US, Suriname, and UWI, added Trinidad and Tobago to the list Dr Hinds had put forward. He however said of the lot, except Suriname, “there was a period of upheaval but in only one country was there a revolution, an overthrow of the state and an attempt to reconstruct the society on entirely different foundations”. “There were special conditions in Grenada which led to a revolutionary situation.” He said that unlike most of the Caribbean that experienced labour unrest between 1936 to 1938 giving rise to trade unions and political parties, “this is postponed in Grenada and it happens in 1951” when Gairy was elected to the colony of Grenada’s Legislative Council. “Gairy comes to the fore, but his very existence, his personage, doesn’t fit the bill. And the middle classes … are very unhappy with him. The upper classes are very unhappy with him.” Discriminatory practices of Gairy, who was in and out of office, served as Premier and led the country to independence in 1974, was at the same time angering working class Grenadians. “So what we were having is this crisis at the top in that the people who are the economic and social elites are not having the political leader. They’re hostile to him. There is no united top, a crisis from below as people are not seeing the benefits of Gairyism. This crisis at the top and crisis from below is the context in which the New Jewel Movement emerged as an organisation.” (BT)

Yuuri (on my wall)
A quick one-shot, because the idea made me smile. I’ll be back with more Manifest Emotion soon, though :)
Title and AO3 link: Yuuri (on my wall)
Rating: Teen for Yuri’s potty mouth
Summary: Victor wishes he had a collection of Yuuri's memorabilia. Yuuri doesn't think there is any.Yuri Plisetsky knows better.
Victor insisted on bringing the stupid pork cutlet bowl’s creepy as fuck poster collection back to Russia with them. It now covers an entire wall of their flat, and Victor likes to pose next to it. To his credit, the pork cutlet bowl, who has enough of a sense of shame to balance out Victor’s complete and utter lack of it, tends to turn red and stammer in horror whenever he does it (unless he’s drunk and Yuri does not need to think about that, thank you very much. He’s already scarred for life). Over the next few months, more posters get added—multiple versions of their disgusting paired skate, and several new and shiny ones of Pork Cutlet Bowl in his latest costumes. It’s almost sweet, in a grossly egotistical way.
And then one day, Yuri overhears Victor saying mournfully, “I can’t believe they never made any official merchandise for you before now, Yuuri. I would have collected it all.”
Yuri chokes on his drink.
And Pork Cutlet Bowl, the lying little piggy, says, wide-eyed, “Oh, I was never that important, Vitya. Why would anyone make posters of me?”
Yuri chokes again, so badly he starts coughing.
Mila hits him obligingly on the back and asks, “Something wrong, baby?” Her voice has that note that suggests she’s caught the scent of a secret and won’t rest until she ferrets out the truth.
“No!” Yuri snarls and then, because her eyes are still narrowed, he lies, “Beka sent me a picture of a cat on a rollercoaster.”
She ruffles his hair, laughs at him, and wanders off to torment Georgi.
To be safe, Yuri texts Otabek. Send me a picture of a cat on a rollercoaster. Quickly!
Otabek texts back, Should I ask?
No. Just do it!
Otabek sends three. Hah. Yuri wins all round.
But it gnaws at him, especially once he realises that the idiot who shares his name actually meant what he said—he genuinely believes that nobody ever made any merchandise of Japan’s top figure skater. How the fuck is that even possible? He must have signed the contracts—must know he has sponsors.
Otabek, over Skype, furrows his brow thoughtfully and says, “Didn’t he also not notice that he was engaged to Victor? Even after he bought the rings and proposed himself?”
Yuri beats his head against the desk a few times. “I hate him. I hate Victor. I hate them both.”
“Of course you do,” Otabek agrees with him. “That’s why you called me at two am to rant about them.”
Yuri lifts his head just enough to give Otabek a Look.
Otabek looks stoic, but his mouth is ever-do-slightly tilted at the corner in the way that means he’s laughing inside.
Yuri hates everybody.
All the same, he can’t quite get it out of his head, especially after he goes online and sees how expensive vintage Yuuri Katsuki memorabilia has become since the stupid piggy squeaked his way to a World Championship win. Some of it you just can’t get anymore, even if you’re stupid-rich and profligate like Victor. And Victor knows this too—Yuri’s heard him bemoaning it to Georgi over lunch.
And it’s annoying, okay—annoying on the same level as the stupid Yuuri vs Yuri whiteboard Mila’s put up in the changing rooms, just out of his reach (it started as quads landed in practice, until Yakov banned that when accidents started happening, and now she changes the terms every week. Last week it was Claiming to be average vs Screaming on ice. This week it’s Caught kissing his fiance when he should be practising vs. Caught messaging Otabek when he should be stretching which is totally unfair because some people, unlike her, know how to multitask).
Yuri stares up at the posters of tigers and bands that cover his walls and tells himself that it’s none of his business and he doesn’t fucking care and Victor’s too annoying to deserve nice things anyway.
Except…
Except every time someone mentions posters, Victor’s doing that stupid wistful pining face that he wore for weeks after Sochi, and though Yuri obviously doesn’t care about that, anyone who walks into the Apartment of Gross Idiocy right now might assume that the pork cutlet bowl is a stalkerish weirdo superfan (which he is, of course) and not that everything they’re seeing is evidence of Victor Nikiforov’s over-romanticized egotism. And that’s just not fair.
So that’s the only reason Yuri hesitates at the end of his next phone call with his grandpa and mutters a request.
Kill me, he messages Otabek later. Kill me now.
Can’t. Too tired to walk to St Petersburg.
Do it remotely.
Too poor to hire assassins. You’ll have to live and suffer for another day.
Yuri goes to sleep grinning to himself triumphantly.
Grandpa brings the box with him next time he comes to visit. It’s covered with dust from the attic, and the corners are a little soft with age, but everything inside is still in good condition—Yuri checks and no, he doesn’t linger over certain items. He’s just being thorough.
“Are you sure you want to get rid of all this, Yurochka?” Grandpa asks. “You used to love it all so much.”
Yuri hunches his shoulders. “Yeah, well, I grew out of that crap. It’s dumb. Only little kids like that stuff.”
Grandpa eyes the posters currently covering his walls and then turns a wry look at Yuri. He doesn’t say anything, though, but changes the subject to ask after Potya. Yuri makes him pose for a selfie (with Potya, of course) and posts it on Instagram.
Otabek is the first to like it. Yuri sends him a message that says, Your turn!
He was only hoping for a cat picture, but a few hours later, Otabek posts a picture of himself with his tiny, impossibly ancient grandmother and a ginger cat that takes up both their laps. All three of them have exactly the same lack of expression.
Yuri saves it to his phone and spends the next few days showing it to everyone he knows, even after Mila changes the whiteboard targets again.
Yuri waits with the patience of cat (heh) stalking its prey until Pork Cutlet Bowl next leaves the country for a meeting with his sponsors (“Bring me a poster, Yuuri,” Victor calls forlornly as he vanishes through the departure gate). That evening, Yuri invites himself over to eat Victor’s food and play with his dog. He takes the box with him, taking satisfaction at the smear of dust it leaves on Victor’s perfectly polished table. He leaves it there to swerve into the kitchen and open the fridge.
“What’s this?” Victor asks, sounding puzzled.
The quality of the leftovers in Victor’s fridge has definitely gone up since the stupid piggy moved in. Yuri snags a bowl of gyoza and trails over to the microwave. “Some old crap I’m getting rid of.”
“So you brought it here?”
Yuri shoves the food in the microwave and leans back oh-so-casually. He watches as Victor flicks the box open with the tip of his finger and then goes still before diving in to seize the topmost poster. It unrolls in his hands to show Katsuki Yuuri in mid-triple axel, his face intent and his arm raised towards the sky. It’s the sky blue and white free skate costume from his victory in the Junior Grand Prix Final, and Yuri feels the faintest twinge of regret—it had taken weeks of frustration and wrestling with bad google translations to get that delivered from Japan.
Victor gazes at it as if it was the real Yuuri, and then lifts his face to stare at Yuri.
“Yurio?” he breathes.
“Not my name, old man,” Yuri mutters. “Like I said, old crap. It was taking up space in the attic.”
Victor does weird heart-faced things with his face, freak of nature that he is.
The microwave pings and Yuri retrieves his food and slithers back towards the sofa. He says, with the glare he usually saves for Mila. “If you breathe one fucking word to him, I’ll… I’ll…” He can’t think of a threat dire enough.
“I’ll stay quiet,” Victor promises, miming zipping his mouth shut. That’ll be the day.
Yuri slumps on the sofa, making room for Makkachin, switches the TV on, and eats Victor’s dinner as the man himself makes embarrassing squeeing sounds behind him. After a while, he puts his plate aside and goes to mock Victor (and if the mockery includes the odd muttered bit of information like, “And that’s the limited edition figurine in the Olympic jacket,” and “there’s only fifty of those in the world with his actual signature on, so don’t crumple it, fuckwit,”, it’s just to make it clear that he knows the exact extent of Victor’s stupid crush).
When Yuuri gets back from Japan to be greeted with Victor’s new collection, he’s absolutely mortified. Yuri knows this because he talks about it all week.
“I didn’t even know they made all that,” he keeps saying. “Vitya, where did you get it?”
Victor, for once in his fucking life, remembers his promise and keeps his mouth shut.
Yuri pretends not to be listening, staring at his phone intently even as Mila wanders past with a whiteboard pen.
He’s got better things to do. Ignoring the cacophony of idiots around him, he scowls at eBay. There’s an official poster of Otabek Altin with his gold medal from the last Four Continents which would fit perfectly on the back of Yuri’s bedroom door.
Band posters are for dumb kids, after all. Yuri thinks it’s time to collect something new.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs his kids to grow up fast if Man United are to finish in the top four
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs his children to grow up quickly as Manchester United finishes in the top four
Manchester United signed 1-1 with Southampton in St Mary & # 39; s
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has little choice but to turn to the youth
Asked to reach a top four that with a limited team is a difficult task
By Kieran Gill for MailOnline
Published: 14:43 BST, August 31, 2019 | Updated: 14:47 BST, August 31, 2019
The Busby Babes and Fergie & # 39; s Fledglings became part of Manchester United ] history. Call them Ole Gunnar & # 39; s Young Guns, or Solskjaer & # 39; s Starlets, we will get to know this group well this season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left with little choice but to dive into his pool of talent. Senior players such as Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez Links and replacements did not arrive.
a test time for Solskjaer. There is not much room for patience in modern football, and the Norwegian needs his children to grow up quickly.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gives instructions during the draw of Manchester United with Southampton
The bank of United told a story here. Among the substitutes was Mason Greenwood, a 17-year-old who must quickly master the pace of the Premier League.
At 1-1 in St Mary & # 39; s Stadium and with Southampton on 10 men, Solskjaer produced Greenwood. It was a big question for the young man.
Also on the couch was Tahith Chong, a Dutch teenager with two Premier League appearances to his name, and 21-year-old defender Axel Tuanzebe. Starting out at St Mary & # 39; s was another academic product in Marcus Rashford, which we often forget is only 21.
Daniel James graduated in the United States, although he is only 21. Here he scored his third Premier League goal for United – the same as Alexis Sanchez won in 32 games.
Daniel James and Mason Greenwood applaud the United fans after the game at St Mary & # 39; s
Solskjaer wants to do things his way. He is soft spoken but clearly has a relentless side.
We saw that with the loan departure from Sanchez, where United paid £ 175,000 a week not to have him at the club. We can also see it in his dealings with Fred, his £ 52 million midfielder.
Fred receives £ 120,000 a week, but did not participate in a match-day team this season. His last performance was in a competition in April.
Solskjaer turns to the youth, just as he was taught by Sir Alex Ferguson. But will it work?
Being asked to finish in the top four is one thing. Being asked to achieve that with a limited team is another. Beyond Rashford and Anthony Martial, their options at the front seem bleak.
There was a moment at St Mary & # 39; s when the ball was fired through the six-yard casket. Nobody was there to tap it, because they don't have that kind of striker.
Saturday's draw means that United has now won only one of their last nine Premier League games. Solskjaer works with what he got, but what he got might not be suitable for a finish in the top four.
