Charles Mingus - Goodbye Pork Pie Hat
Tumblr media
(English / Español / Italiano)
Few of the most important names in the history of jazz have the same importance as composers, instrumentalists and bandleaders: Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis or John Coltrane, for example, are equally relevant from whichever angle you look at them. The same is true of Charles Mingus, a musician as personal and influential as an instrumentalist, as brilliant as a composer, or as a reference among the great ideologues and leaders of formation in the history of the genre. Mingus was a genius, one of the few jazzmen to whom such a heavy label can be attached without fear of it being too big for him. Today, 46 years after his death, it is as necessary as ever to vindicate his figure, beyond his biography and his classic albums; beyond Mingus the activist, the visionary composer, the reference of self-publishing, the irate character, the portentous instrumentalist... Beyond all of them is Mingus, a multifaceted genius whose legacy is, without a doubt, one of the richest in 20th century music.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
