Fun Facts. 100% verified.
The world's first international soccer match was between Slovenia and American Samoa.
Jane Austen never published her novel Reason and Rationale for fear the so-called "potato peeling scene" between Lord Montrose and Lady Ames would scandalize the entire Austen family.
The most popular snack at the Indiana State Fair is trout preserved in gelatin.
Timothée Chalamet got his start as a child actor, playing the part of Anna Faris's son on Mom.
One of the recently found "lost tapes" of Watergate is just recordings of Richard Nixon noodling around on the piano and singing "I Gotta Be Me".
Whataguy, the Whataburger mascot, and Louis Joliet exploring the Mississippi waters.

Writerly Questionnaire
Thank you @davycoquette for the tag! Check out the original post here!
If you’d like to know a little bit more about me, you can read what is under the cut! Please check out @davycoquette original post and fill out a questionnaire of your own!
About You
• When did you start writing?
I started writing in the second grade. I used to write my stories in composition notebooks that I still have.
• Are the genres/themes you enjoy reading different from the ones you write?
What I enjoy reading is what I write (besides non-fiction)
• Is there an author (or just a fellow writer!) you want to emulate, or one to whom you're often compared?
I’ve always enjoyed Stephen King and his writing style. I also love Jane Austen’s stories. I don’t think my writing emulates the two, but would be pretty cool if it did.
• Can you tell me a little about your writing space(s)? (Room, coffee shop, desk, etc.)
Since I just moved, my central office is in my parent’s dining room. I have a papasan chair that I sit in while I work on my PC at the table. It’s pretty cool, if any of you want pictures of my set up, let me know!
• What's your most effective way to muster up some muse?
I am deeply inspired by music. I will tune into my WIP playlist, and go on a walk. The activity gets my blood circulating and makes the gears in my brain turn. The music helps spark my imagination
• Did the place(s) you grew up in influence the people and places you write about?
I’ve grown up in Texas. So I make a conscious effort to not use y’all in my writing XD. But other than that, I tend to write about things that are out of my comfort zone.
Your Characters
•Would you please tell me about your current favorite character? (Current WIP, past WIP, never used, etc.)
My current favorite character in my WIP is Desdemona. She is a rebellion leader. What is interesting about her is that she is kind but feared by many.
• Which of your characters do you think you'd be friends with in real life?
I’d be friends with my protagonist Mya. She has a health background like me and can be real sassy. At the end of the day, she is compassionate and empathetic, making her a great friend.
• Tell me about the process of coming up with of one, all, or any of your characters.
My characters are inspired off of a sketchbook I filled with concept art of all of my OCs when i was in my early teens.
• Do you notice any recurring themes/traits among your characters?
Lots of trauma bonding
Your Writing
•What's your reason for writing?
Brings me joy :)))
• Is there a specific comment or type of comment you find particularly motivating coming from your readers?
I love getting comments on things that my readers are picking up from the story. Especially if it has anything to do with my characters or the plot.
• What do you feel is your greatest strength as a writer?
I think my greatest strength is my description of places
• How do you feel about your own writing?
Sometimes I think I’m a good writer, other times I think of all the things I need to improve
• When you write, are you influenced by what others might enjoy reading, or do you write purely what you enjoy? If it's a mix of the two, which holds the most influence?
I Write what i would enjoy reading! I write for me <3

New Graphic Novels!
The Dog Knight, the first of the graphic novel series by demisexual creators Jeremy Whitley @jeremywhitley and Bre Indigo @breindigo, with colors by Melissa Capriglione @mcapriglione-art, is out now!
Available from Macmillan
Frankie knows who they are. They’re a drummer, they’re nonbinary, and they’re… the Dog Knight? One day Frankie is a relatively normal middle schooler, with relatively normal challenges, like finding the perfect outfit to wear during their drum solo during the upcoming band concert. The next, they save a friendly golden retriever from bullies and suddenly find themselves in a giant magical doghouse, with a funny looking helmet, talking to a group of dog superheroes called the Pawtheon about a job offer. If Frankie can prove that they possess the six dog virtues of loyalty, kindness, honesty, justice, stubbornness, and smell, they will be named the Dog Knight and be given the power to fight alongside the Pawtheon and save the world from the forces of chaos. Maybe there is more to Frankie than they thought?
Nadia from The Dog Knight is ace.
Bre Indigo's second recently released graphic novel, Northranger with Rey Tercier, is a teen summer gothic romance.
Available from HarperCollins
Cade has always loved to escape into the world of a good horror movie. After all, horror movies are scary—but to Cade, a closeted queer Latino teen growing up in rural Texas—real life can be way scarier. When Cade is sent to spend the summer working as a ranch hand to help earn extra money for his family, he is horrified. Cade hates everything about the ranch, from the early mornings to the mountains of horse poop he has to clean up. The only silver lining is the company of the two teens who live there—in particular, the ruggedly handsome and enigmatic Henry. But as unexpected sparks begin to fly between Cade and Henry, things get…complicated. Henry is reluctant to share the details of his mother’s death, and Cade begins to wonder what else he might be hiding. Inspired by the gothic romance of Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey and perfect for fans of Heartstopper and Bloom comes a modern love story so romantic it’s scary.
Both are great reads for Pride Month!

are u a czech expert in badger hockey?
*takes a drag of my cigarette noir style*
I'll say this. Maybe I met, fell in love with and taught a badger to play hockey. Maybe that badger broke my heart via boomerang-letter. Maybe I staged a very much failed coup in an attempt to become king of England. And maybe I had to flee the country and assume a false identity.
But you can't prove anything. All you need to know is I'm very happy right now. I'm a businessman, in Austen, Texas. With a briefcase and everything. I have a wife - Penelope - and a son called Thaddeus. I actually just got Penelope an Amazon prime subscription for Christmas. There is nothing that could come between me and my family.
People mock my accent, it's true.
But at least American Badgers are nothing like European badgers.
#thank you anon!#i think i enjoyed myself far to much answering your ask :)#anon#anon ask#badger hockey

"Hi Austen, I'm Austin from Austin Texas"
(Silly thing I had in my mind)
Now, y'see, I have considered remaking his Tumblr, but I've figured that only 1 or 2 people would even care about that character other than me. I also really, really need to rework his backstory and *vague handwaving* that is a pain in the ass.

Desert Island Discs
Thank you for tagging me, @flowertrigger and @mostlyinthemorning.
@jamilas-pen wrote:
You're stranded on a desert island, but you can pick eight recordings, a book and a luxury item to have with you. You get the complete works of Shakespeare and the Bible/other appropriate religious or philosophical book as a 'freebie'. The luxury item must be inanimate and of no use in escaping the island or allowing communication from outside. What do you take? Say as much or as little as you like about why you made those picks.
—
I have some questions. Are we going to individual desert islands near each other? Will I be able to faintly hear other people’s music? How long are we staying? (Forever?) Is it really cold at night? Do I get a change of clothes? Are my sunscreen preferences taken into consideration? Is there a hairbrush, or would I have to use my “luxury” slot for that? Oh, and I’m definitely going to need some paper and a couple of pens. Could you maybe supply those?
I am assuming food is either not a concern or it’s so dismal a situation that if I packed, say, a giant chocolate bar or a jar of “everything but the bagel” seasoning it wouldn’t be worth it in the long run.
So, basically, my list focuses on keeping my brain busy and my spirits up.
Recordings
Music-wise, that means I chose songs I could sing along to and/or play air piano with and/or work on memorizing the lyrics and/or play over and over and over and over again. They’re also songs that remind me of people and times I could write about or think about a lot without becoming walk-into-the-ocean depressed.
Beautiful Mess by Kasey Chambers
2. Honesty by Noah Reid
3. Language or the Kiss by the Indigo Girls
4. Leaving on a Jet Plane by Peter, Paul and Mary (I really want to say John Denver’s version, but it comes down to me just not being able to sing along to him well, which would be too frustrating, so I’m going with this one instead.)
5. George Winston’s piano version of Pachelbel’s Canon in D (I feel like it might be really uncool to say you love this song? But I love this song. Ugh, and this is the best arrangement, you can trust me, because I’ve listened to them all.)
6. Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
7. Texas River Song by Lyle Lovett (Hmm, see, I have this kind of dirty parody of this half-written, but only in my mind, and I do a little harmonizing that I’ve worked out? So I feel like on a desert island I’d have plenty of time to finish it up and write down the definitive version.)
8. Unfinished Life by Kate Wolf
+1 song I very sadly and with much regret bumped off the list: Outfit by Jason Isbell
Book
I didn’t think too hard about this. I’m just going with my instincts and the first thing I thought of, which is the complete works of Jane Austen, which I know can be found all in one volume. I’ve only read one of her novels (Mansfield Park—why? I do not know), but I know I’d like them. They wouldn’t be fast reads, so I wouldn’t tear through them too quickly, and they’d reward rereading.
Luxury Item
Assuming I’ve already got a ream of paper and a pack of pens to write down my Lyle Lovett thoughts and my Jane Austen essays and my fanfic and my messages for the bottles (are there bottles?), I’m going to go with a quilt that I’ve made and is at the barely-started hand quilting stage. (Can I pack my thread and needles and scissors to go with it? What if I sewed a little pocket and hid the supplies inside, then would it count as one item?) I figure it gives me something to do that’s different from writing or music, plus it has practical value in warmth and shade.

which are the most potentially dangerous areas if you are queer or foreigner?
Writing this out (I'm adding this last) is actually super sad. Like, what a failed world. I really don't want to be scary but this comes out as scary. I'm urging informed caution.
If you're in major cities, you'll probably be fine. It's more rural areas that you might want to avoid. They tend to be much more conservative. This is true in all parts of the country. Like, NYC is liberal, fun, bangin', and has amazing queer communities. Rural New York is pretty red.
If you're visibly queer or don't want to hide your queerness (valid), avoiding states like Texas (besides Dallas and Austen) is probably a good idea. Mississippi and Alabama (besides Huntsville and Montgomery) are probably to be avoided as well. Wyoming, Kentucky, Utah, and Oklahoma are probably pretty iffy as well outside of major cities. Southern states and Western states (besides California/Oregon/Washington) tend to be more homophobic and transphobic, and women's rights tend to be less than ideal there as well.
If you're a person of color, KNOW THESE CITIES and AVOID THEM AFTER DARK. They're sundown towns, which derive their name because they are HORRIBLY DANGEROUS for PoCs after the sun goes down.
As you can see, there are sundown towns in most states, so keep a look out. You won't be bothered if you are a white foreigner, but if you're not white, exercise caution.
If you are PREGNANT, know this information:
You can be charged for having a miscarriage in some states, though it isn't inevitable.
Blue states are friendlier:
I think that's it! Have a safe trip. <3
