Reykjavik, July 16th
Day 2 me and my mom decided to walk around the area to see what we could do next and found a garden connected to the Einar Jønsson museum. They had many wonderful statues and the layout was so nice to walk through!
The statues were referencing many things, the ones I picked up on personally were Ymir and Audhumbla, what I assume is Skuld the norn? Thor wrestling Ellie (old age) and even Psyche from Greek mythology!
Also who's little clown kitty is this? It kept following us around, which I had to record. It was absolutely adorable, then I started asking myself "Loki is that you again?" XD
#blogging#blog#traveling#iceland#reykjavik#I've spotted a cat!!#its probably loki#i mean look at the colors!#and the adorable collar!! 😭#Einar Jønsson museum

Re-reading my childhood books about Norse mythology and I have so many question ....
I have no idea who is related to who and how ... like is mimer and bestla siblings or not ?
So far only the cowlick man was not "birthed" from Ymir in one way or another. Buuuuut consider both Ymir and Audhumbla is made from fire and ice ...
Also did not know Asgård had changed location twice.... but tbh I too would move if the dog next door barked and stuff 24/7 and they did mimer dirty

[A digitally drawn set of playing cards, cover, Joker, Ace, King, Queen and Jack. The cover is a nordic style serpent dragon, in red and gold. The Joker is the tree Yggdrasil with the Red Squirrel Ratatosk running down a branch in the center. Ace is a Cow, Audhumbla with a Heart Suit between her horns. The face cards are all mirrored silhouettes, the King is of Odin, with two ravens inside, Queen is Freya with cats, and Jack is Thor with mountain goats. End ID]
I designed a set of nordic playing cards!

Yulen
Yule- ”original julen” i Norden!

Ymir and the cow Audhumbla condensed from the matter that floated around in empty space between the heat and the cold.
Picture of matter condensing
a) matter in empty space (ginungagab)
b) inside hot (muspelheim) outside cold (nifelheim)
c) matter condensed more between the hot and the cold
d) shapes are taking form (ymir and audhumal) though still chaotic and one leg can create more shapes with the other
e) things are organized and the earth (midgard) is created
Everyone: How did the gods come into existence when the universe was created?
Norse Mythology: There was a guy in an ice block.
Everyone: Where did he come from then?
Norse Mythology: Cow licked him out, innit?
Everyone: Sure? But that doesn't say where the other gods...
Norse Mythology: His left leg had sex with his right leg.
Everyone: What?
Norse Mythology: Pretty self-explanatory, I think.

Nicolai Abildgaard (Sept. 11, 1743 - 1809) was a Danish painter of the Romantic period. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy and later spent 5 years in Rome. He turned his art to Norse mythology as well as Neo-classicist inspiration from Greek and Roman mythology.

The first day of what I’ll be calling Norse November where everyday of November I’ll be posting a different drawing of a character from Norse Mythology, some gods, some giants, and some primordial beings like this fellow and his cow. This is Ymir and Auðumbla. In the case of Ymir, he was one of the first beings in the universe, brought to life by the primordial forces of fire and ice, born out of the dark mist at the beginning of everything, the personification of frozen oceans and tempered flame. It’s unclear as to how Auðumbla came to be but she would sustain Ymir with her milk and became his longtime companion. Ymir also created the first giants from his sweat of all things, and so he came to be known as the father of all giants.
