the thing i love about when sirius is written as a teenager in fic (like cadence, atyd, etc) is that he’s got so much energy. so much character. his personality is too big for his body. he is the epitome of not knowing how to colour within the lines. it’s all fizzing over the top and spilling out in these beautifully mischievous ways and i think it’s just the most endearing thing.

I've heard someone say that maybe Remus has a too-harsh backstory in atyd and that makes it kind of hard to relate to him or less believable and ??? what do you mean too harsh? What do you mean unrealistic?? He's literally just an orphan in the 70s. He grew up in a care home. That's all. It couldn't possibly be more realistic. Yes, he got hit, that was completely standard. It's not like he got whipped. He had food and clothes and Matron even sent Christmas gifts. I don't mean it was a soft, healthy place of course, but ??? how is that a too harsh backstory to relate. Y'all like Crimson Rivers, that's, like, the epitome of too bad to be true. How is that relatable then?

And yes, the werewolf thing surely made it worse, held in a cage, then a silver plaqued room. So?? What would you expect from muggles trying to hold back a magical creature? Remus himself says it was understandable.

I swear some people act like the 70s had modern day care standards for children. Which honestly, depending on the situation, still not so great. That's the same people who expect a boy in the 70s to be sexism-aware in his speech, or who "think Lily was a feminist" so they make her say things a feminist would say today. The fights were different folks! The times were different, the struggles were harder, the people were not aware of things, and everyone lived in a smaller bubble than we do now.

If you don't like that setting, don't pretend to. Don't make things anachronistic and call them realistic. Just fucking read a modern day au.
