If you ever wondered what the best living vertebrate is, it’s the alligator gar in my totally not biased 100% scientifically backed opinion. They are just a flawless creature. Nothing wrong with them. Good tooth to snoot ratio, they have a winning smile.

They and other monster fish absolutely should NOT be in the hands of most private keepers at all and I do NOT support morph breeding of them because of that, but pretty fishy cute :c

The alligator gar is a euryhaline ray-finned fish in the clade Ginglymodi of the infraclass Holostei, being most closely related to the bowfins. It is the largest species in the gar family, and is among the largest freshwater fish in North America.

A survivor from ancient times, the alligator gar is a resilient predatory fish found in swamps and rivers and breathes both air and water. Alligator gars primarily hunt smaller fish and sometimes attack drowned (pretty much every aquatic predatory will attack drowns on sight, because I despise them with a burning passion), however they are neutral towards players although they are very tough for their size so it may be wise to avoid provoking them.

In real life, alligator gars are large freshwater fish which are found mostly in the southeastern united states and are fairly tolerant of saltwater for a freshwater fish. Gars are living fossils with the alligator gar dating as far back as the Miocene, although the family as a whole first appeared in the late Jurassic.
