Calling all horror enthusiasts and fans of retro gaming! Brace yourselves for a chilling experience as Dementium: The Ward, the critically acclaimed first-person horror title, prepares to invade PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles on April 19th, 2024. Developed by indie studio Atooi, Dementium: The Ward offers a unique blend of suspenseful atmosphere, psychological horror, and classic survival horror gameplay, all wrapped in a nostalgic retro aesthetic. A Legacy of Terror: Dementium's Journey from DS to Modern Consoles Dementium: The Ward first arrived on the scene in 2007, captivating players on the Nintendo DS with its innovative blend of touchscreen mechanics and unsettling horror themes. The game quickly garnered a cult following for its immersive world-building, chilling atmosphere, and challenging gameplay. Retro Horror to a New Audience This success story didn't end there. In 2015, Dementium: The Ward received an updated version for the Nintendo 3DS, allowing a new generation of gamers to experience its unique brand of horror. Then, in 2023, the game made its way to the Nintendo Switch, further expanding its reach. Now, with its upcoming PlayStation release, Dementium: The Ward is poised to introduce its disturbing world and thrilling gameplay to an entirely new audience. A Descent into Madness: Waking Up in a Nightmare Dementium: The Ward throws players headfirst into a terrifying scenario. You awaken disoriented and amnesiac within the dilapidated halls of an abandoned hospital. With no memory of who you are or how you arrived in this desolate place, your only objective becomes survival. As you navigate the hospital's decaying corridors, a chilling reality unfolds. You're not alone. The once-sterile environment is now overrun by grotesque creatures born from the twisted psyche of the protagonist. Grotesque mannequins come to life, spectral figures lurk in the shadows, and unsettling whispers fill the air. Dementium: The Ward expertly utilizes psychological horror, blurring the lines between reality and nightmare to create a truly unsettling experience. More Than Just Retro: A Modern Take on Survival Horror While Dementium: The Ward embraces a nostalgic visual style reminiscent of classic first-person shooters, it doesn't simply rely on retro charm. The gameplay offers a thrilling blend of exploration, puzzle-solving, and resource management. Players must scavenge for weapons and ammunition, utilize environmental objects for strategic advantage, and solve puzzles to unlock new areas of the hospital. The combat mechanics in Dementium: The Ward are tense and deliberate. Ammo is scarce, and each encounter with the game's nightmarish creatures requires careful planning and resourcefulness. This focus on survival adds another layer of tension to the already terrifying atmosphere. A PlayStation Debut with Enhanced Features The PlayStation port of Dementium: The Ward promises to be the definitive version of the game. Players can expect a variety of enhancements, including: Smooth 60 FPS Gameplay: Experience the horror at a silky smooth frame rate for a more responsive and immersive experience. DualShock 4 and DualSense Controller Support: Utilize the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers of the DualSense controller (on PS5) for enhanced immersion. Multiple Display Modes: Choose between a classic retro look or a more modern HD graphical style, allowing players to experience the game in a way that suits their preferences. With these improvements, Dementium: The Ward aims to deliver a terrifying and unforgettable experience for both seasoned horror fans and newcomers to the franchise. Frequently Asked Questions Q: What is the story of Dementium: The Ward? A: The story focuses on a character who wakes up with amnesia in a creepy abandoned hospital. YEAH I want Chicken Wiggle on Switch ⊟
Atooi’s cute 3DS platformer/DIY level editor Chicken Wiggle is now headed to the Switch... maybe. The developer will run a Kickstarter on March 6 to raise funds to get it there “with beautiful new HD artwork.”
As always, I hold the belief that all games should be on Switch. I’m hardly alone in that conviction. And I want to play this!

Dementium: The Ward Making Its Way to PlayStation
From Noisy Pixel
Per a post on X (formerly Twitter) by developer and publisher Atooi, Dementium: The Ward will be released on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on April 19, 2024. The game will feature a number of display options, trophy support (including a Platinum Trophy), and more.
Originally released in 2007 on the Nintendo DS, Dementium: The Ward was developed by the now-defunct developer Renegade Kid. The title later received a Nintendo DS sequel while the original was remastered for the Nintendo 3DS in 2015. Atooi later announced that they had the rights to the series and released a Nintendo Switch port last year on October 12, 2023.
Dementium: The Ward was originally pitched as a Silent Hill game, though Konami turned it down. While the original title was a Nintendo DS game, the latest post from Atooi includes a quote that the game “is built from the ground up for the big screen, combining smooth first-person shooter gameplay with a demented tale of mystery and terror – all running at a silky 60 frames per second.”
Dementium: The Ward is releasing on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on April 19, 2024. The game has versions currently available on the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo Switch. For more news on Dementium: The Ward, stay tuned to Noisy Pixel.
