I thought it would be fun to draw some fish I like in proper scale to one another. You never really put two and two together about the absolute sizes of some animals until you see them compared to other things! I've already done four off the top of my head:

An Atlantic sturgeon that's 3 meters long (modern Atlantic sturgeons rarely reach sizes over 2.4 m, but historically they could be up to 4 meters. I settled on an in between length), a northern pike that's 120 cm long (upper estimate), a Siberian sturgeon that's 2 meters long (absolute max size), and a neon tetra that's 3 cm long (average length)!

ive been mildly interested in writing that sorta thing (im 19) but i feel like despite being over 18, it feels kinda weird?? maybe it’s just an adulting thing but idk

Hi hiii, anon!! Funnily enough, I was also 19 when I wrote nsfw (my first nsfw fic was a Scaramouche fic hehe). I cannot express to you how embarrassed I was when I first wrote it and then posted it. Also when I was writing the smut for Azul thought 4!! I actually had to get drunk so that I could push myself to write the library and tentacle sex scenes. ^^;;;

Now that I've written nsfw so often, I've become quite comfortable with it. I think it's a matter of where your comfort level is regarding writing nsfw. Don't force yourself to write something you might not be comfortable with, but I do think you should pursue writing it if you're curious or interested! As the saying goes, it never hurts to try. And if you do need to drink in order to write it at first, please make sure to do so responsibly!! ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧

All these The Bear is not a comedy thinkpieces being written. I didn’t realize that it was just about writing stand up jokes in a half-hour format and not that noir, satire, tragic, situational, are all forms of comedy as well? Or are they not?

It’s very clear people resent this show.

Maybe they should have a category for that specific kind of format/delivery? Since it’s not as broad a comedy?

My best friend and I moved in together with his closest friend from his MA program, and while I had met her before (the friend; my bff is a man), we hadn't spent much time together because I've never lived away from the West Coast (and only two years out of the PNW) and she's never lived outside of North Carolina and only briefly visited the PNW once, when she went to Portland last year.

It's been a delight to show her around the PNW and realize we need to explain things that are just sort of omnipresent in our lives. The bff and I were casually griping with each other about having to run an errand to Trader Joe's at an inconvenient hour, and were telling her, "it's okay, you can stay in the car and avoid the people if you want" and she was like "NO I MUST SEE IT, I'VE ONLY HEARD OF THEM" and nearly ascended to another plane when we showed her around the store.

The bff and I grew up in the same town in NW Washington (him for his first 18 years, me from 9 to 19) and he lived in Bellingham and Seattle for years before he went to NC for grad school (I went to the SF Bay Area for mine, a very different experience). Both of them are hardcore coffee aficionados, but he struggled with the different Coffee Ways of the South, so for the true PNW experience they want to tour various indie coffeeshops next.

Also, she adores Kaidan in Mass Effect and we were like, oh, is your passport up to date? We could take a trip sometime and show you your boyfriend's beloved English Bay. It's very beautiful :)

me: Actually, it's worth going to Vancouver BC for its own sake as well, it's truly spectacular. We used to go all the time as kids.

Mood board for my latest project. Little bit of it below the cut.

You eat the lunch you packed and pull off your sweater, the noon sun warming you up enough to not need it, at least for the moment. You putt along to a new spot and try fishing again, this time catching three good sized fish. Surprising, considering the time of day, but sometimes you get lucky. You're thinking about heading back home when you spot a flash of white under the water.

You grab your camera, determined to be ready. And then a grey shape launches out of the water and into your boat, nearly capsizing it. The white orca sluices through the water next to your boat a moment later, regarding you disdainfully with one bloodshot eye. He flicks his tail as he dives again, soaking you and your passenger.

Your seal friend makes himself comfortable at the prow of the boat, entirely too pleased with himself.

"You're on thin ice, mister!" You tell him, turning back the way you'd come. Thanks to him you missed your photo and nearly went for a swim in deep water. You're pretty sure he couldn't help you out of that situation even if he wanted to, especially with a hunter swimming just below. You certainly don't want four inch teeth biting you in half.

Of course, you don't want to see your friend get eaten in front of you either. You know its the way of the ocean, but he's your little buddy.

The white orca cuts across your path again. You stop your engine, heart hammering, and grab your camera. He disappears into the depths for a moment, and then jumps a little ways away. If you didn’t know better, you’d say he was showing off. You get several quick snaps that you know will be gorgeous— Water droplets catching the sun, his ghostly white body stark against the backdrop of the dark ocean. You grin at the seal, and yelp when something thumps the bottom of your boat, rocking it harshly.

Then the white orca (he needs a name, so you land on Ghost) surfaces next to you, terrifyingly close, and spits water at the seal.

“Holy shit,” you breathe, adjusting your lens for the close contact, camera shutter clicking away as you shoot pictures. Ghost eyes you, and then spits water a second time. The seal looks deeply offended, but not concerned, even with his hunter bobbing in the water a few feet away. “Aren’t you a pretty boy.”

He is pretty. A juvenile, maybe, now that you see him up close— He’s a bit small for an orca, but he’s all alone out here, no pod to speak of, and a juvenile wouldn’t survive on it’s own. As if he can hear your compliment, he creaks at you.

The seal barks back. He seems offended by Ghost’s presence. Understandable, since Ghost was trying to eat him earlier. You get a few funny snaps of the two of them regarding each other over the rim of the boat, having a conversation that you have no way of understanding. You feel a bit insane. A bit like you’re going to wake up laying in the bottom of your boat any minute, and this will all be a funny dream.
